Congrats on your win over Memphis, however looks like Glory Road is going to be a tough road to travel the rest of the way out.
Yeah, not a lot of upsets going on this year. The next rounds are going to be tough. Georgia Tech is very good, as is Virginia Tech.

Yeah, Memphis has a good team, but when we're clicking it's just hard to stop us. Wow at a #14 seed making the Elite Eight, though. Only in CH 2K8, haha.

      #5 Georgia Tech (25-12) vs. #1 West Virginia (34-2)
      Charlotte Bobcats Arena
      Charlotte, NC
      March 27th, 2026

After two easy blowouts, things finally got tough for top-seeded West Virginia (34-2).

The Mountaineers fell behind early as the fifth-seeded Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (25-12) rocketed out to a 28-18 lead. Georgia Tech led by as many as 13 points in the first half as WVU was a real mess, turning the basketball over constantly and playing very poorly on defense. Nevertheless, the Mountaineers began to turn it on late in the first half as they rallied to cut the Georgia Tech lead to five points, 43-38, at halftime.

The Mountaineers came out in the second half determined and quickly took the lead. However, the Yellow Jackets did not fold and both teams fought tooth-and-nail down to the wire. With under a minute left, Georgia Tech's Cleveland Burrowes scored his 21st point of the game with a mid-range jump shot to tie the game at 79 apiece. After an empty WVU possession, the Yellow Jackets had the ball with under 30 seconds left when Len Shields jumped in front of an errant pass and ran down the court all by himself to dunk the basketball and put the Mountaineers up 81-79 with 19 seconds remaining.

Georgia Tech got the ball back, but an intense defensive possession by the Mountaineers relegated the Yellow Jackets to a 25-foot heave by Jai Haney as time expired. The shot clanked off the front of the rim and the Mountaineers won 81-79 to advance to the Elite Eight for the second-straight year and the third in the last four years!

Len Shields led West Virginia with 20 points and nine rebounds. D.C. Montgomery added 15 points, six rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Anderson Black played well, tallying 13 points, four rebounds, and four assists, but fouled out in the closing minutes. As a result, he only played 23 minutes. Freshman backup point guard Waitari Trammell picked up the slack for Black as he came off the bench to contribute 11 points and three steals.

Cleveland Burrowes led Georgia Tech with 21 points, four rebounds, and four steals. Josh Summers added 12 points and three steals.

Both teams played a sloppy game, but WVU was especially sloppy with 19 turnovers on the night, most of which came in the first half. However, the Mountaineers made up for it to some degree by shooting 51% from the floor and outrebounding the Yellow Jackets 35-23.

West Virginia will face second-seeded Virginia Tech in the Eastern Regional Final in two days. The rival Hokies defeated Texas 78-58 to advance to the Regional Final.

You forgot WSU's score but being how you put them in 2nd, I assume they lost

1 vs 2 in 3 out of 4 regionals makes for a pretty boring bracket challenge, but for those who play it safe and always pick the higher seed, they probably got alot right this year.

Oops, the Cougars lost 80-73 to UCLA. I have fixed that.

Yep, a very chalky bracket, aside from the West Regional.

Ironically enough the season after the one where Creighton made the elite eight as a 14 seed (in my legacy) another Cinderella run occurs this time it's a team that actually did some work irl in the tourney in 2011 VCU this year however I ended up with the Cinderella team in the final four and boy did they give me a run for my money back & forth all game with me winning the game on a buzzer beater 80-79 then the NC game is another story for another post

Btw you're doing an awesome job at WVU

Thanks. Yeah, there's always some interesting Cindarellas in this game, though Virginia Commonwealth was quite a Cinderella in their own right in real life a couple years back.

Top-seeded West Virginia is going to the Final Four! The Mountaineers (35-2) secured a 77-73 victory over the #2-seeded Virginia Tech Hokies (24-8) in the East Regional Final.

The Mountaineers led for the vast majority of the game and at times appeared to be on the verge of blowing it open, but the Hokies did not break and continued to keep it close throughout until the final buzzer sounded and the Mountaineers escaped with a close four-point victory.

D.C. Montgomery showed why he is expected to be drafted someday as he led WVU with 23 points, five rebounds, and three steals. Tre Welch also had a great game, scoring 18 points, grabbing two rebounds, and blocking a pair of shots. Anderson Black paced the offense very well for the second consecutive game as he recorded 14 points, three rebounds, five assists, and four steals.

The decisive statistic in this game was the turnover battle. The Hokies turned the ball over 19 times. WVU turned the ball over only six times. The Mountaineers had been sloppy with the basketball in previous games in the NCAA Tournament, so this was a big turnaround.

The Hokies outrebounded the Mountaineers 30-to-28 and held a 53%-41% advantage in shooting percentage. The Mountaineers did get to the line nearly twice as frequently, however.

Junior point guard Dexter Garrett had a phenomenal game for the Hokies, as he scored 15 points, grabbed five rebounds, and tossed out 14 times, just one assist short of his career-high of 15. Fellow guard Marco Garrett added 14 points and three rebounds while Normal Del Rosario contributed 11 points, three rebounds, and three assists. Sky Jeffries banged down low for 15 points and eight rebounds while Noel Newsom came off the bench to add 10 ponits.

West Virginia will face UCLA in the Final Four in St. Petersburg next week. The #4-seeded Bruins defeated #3 Duquesne 82-69 in the West Regional Final to advance to the Final Four.

Congrats on your Final 4 run.

I guess it's fitting that the 1 team that's not a #1 is the team that beat the #1.

Take it to the Bruins. After you win over V.T. in the Elite 8, I was hoping for a WVU vs Virginia NC.

Any preference on Texas Tech or Tennessee or have you not looked that far ahead (rosters ect).

My preference is anybody but Tennessee, haha! They're basically a super-team and I've already been steamrolled by them once this year.

UCLA is going to the Championship Game for the second-straight year. The fourth-seeded Bruins (26-11) topped the #1 overall seed in the tournament, the West Virginia Mountaineers (35-3), 84-77 this evening. The Bruins led for nearly the entire game and at times threatened to turn it into a rout. Nevertheless, the Mountaineers held on and made it a bit close towards the end, but the result was never really in doubt.

One of the reasons why was Bruins point guard J.D. Evenstar, who hit nine of his 11 shot attempts, including four of five from three-point range, to score 28 points. He did turn the ball over seven times, but his shooting more than made up for it. Senior 6'11" big man Stephon Goss also had a huge game for the Bruins as he tallied 14 points, 16 rebounds, three assists, three steals, and six blocks. Garrett Mitchell also tallied 13 points, five rebounds, and six assists while junior guard Smackey Riddick added 10 points.

The Mountaineers struggled greatly offensively, only shooting 39% from the field. The only thing that kept WVU in it was 21 UCLA turnovers.

D.C. Montgomery was atrocious shooting the basketball as he missed his first six shots and ended only two-for-10 from the field for nine points and four rebounds. Anderson Black had the best game for WVU as he scored a team-high 16 points to go along with three assists and six steals (career-high). Leandro Summers hit four treys and tallied 12 points and three steals. Len Shields totaled 10 points and five rebounds while Tre Welch added 10 points, seven rebounds, five assists, four steals, and three blocks. Waitari Trammell also added 11 points off the bench.

WVU head coach James Frizzell reflected on the game by stating, "We had a great season and we have nothing to be ashamed of. We didn't play our greatest tonight, but [UCLA was] the better team tonight. We got beat. A Final Four is a nice feat and though we would have liked to have gone all the way, we are proud of what we achieved."

With the loss, the Mountaineers fall to 35-3 on the season. UCLA moves on to face #1-seeded Tennessee in the championship game. Tennessee defeated #1-seeded Texas Tech 84-62 in the other Final Four game earlier tonight. Incidentally, UCLA and Tennessee matched up in last year's title game, a game in which the Volunteers emerged victorious 97-81.

Just looking at the team totals, it's hard to believe you lost that game other than not shooting as well.
