        vs.
        #3 West Virginia (16-1) vs. Syracuse (12-5)
        Carrier Dome
        Syracuse, NY
        January 11th, 2035

No. 3 West Virginia (16-1, 4-1) breezed past Syracuse (12-5, 3-2) this evening 83-68 to win their fourth consecutive game.

West Virginia's starting frontcourt combined for 57 of West Virginia's 83 points as Nik Buscher, Shannon Edwards, and Felipe Delgado each scored in double-figures with Nik Buscher leading the way with 30 points, 14 rebounds, and three blocks. Shannon Edwards added 15 points and seven rebounds and Felipe Delgado totaled 12 points and four boards.

Barry Hammond scored a team-high 21 points for Syracuse and Iman Crawford added 12 points and seven rebounds.

West Virginia led Syracuse 45-32 at halftime. The Mountaineers extended their lead early in the second half and put it on cruise control for the remainder of the game. The Orange cut the margin to 15 points at the final buzzer, but in reality the final score made the game seem closer than it really was.

West Virginia was very efficient on offense today, shooting 52% (33/64) from the field overall, including 55% (11/20) from three-point range. Syracuse shot 41% (26/63) from the field. The Orange did a good job on the boards, matching West Virginia's collective total of 32 rebounds. This is the first game this season in which the Mountaineers did not win the rebounding battle, but it was little matter given the Mountaineers' efficient execution on offense.

West Virginia has six days off before hosting Cincinnati on January 18th.

No. 2 West Virginia (17-1, 5-1) pulled away in the second half to defeat Cincinnati 97-67 this evening in Morgantown.

The Bearcats (6-9, 3-3) hung around in the first half and only trailed by six points (48-42) at halftime, but West Virginia ran away with it early in the second half, outscoring Cincinnati 49-25 during the final 20 minutes of play en route to a 30-point victory.

Boakai Clement poured in a season-high 20 points on 7/9 shooting, including 6/8 from beyond the arc. Charles Rickert added 20 points and four steals from off the bench and Felipe Delgado added 11 points and four rebounds. Nik Buscher totaled 16 points, eight rebounds, and five blocks while freshman backup point guard Damond Pasco tallied 12 points and a career-best five assists.

Torris Winkfield scored 12 points and added four steals to lead Cincinnati in scoring. Toby Courselle and Peter Randolph added 11 and 10 points, respectively.

"We struggled defensively in the first half, but we tightened things up in the second half and [Cincinnati] started to miss some improbable shots that were going in for them in the first half," explained West Virginia head coach James Frizzell, whose teams is tied at the top of the Big East along with Notre Dame (17-1, 5-1).

The Mountaineers shot 55% (39/71) from the field overall this evening, including 44% (16/36) from three-point range. West Virginia only made four trips to the free throw line this evening (3/4 FT), but they more than made up for it with their excellent shooting.

West Virginia will travel to Chicago, IL to take on DePaul on Saturday. The Blue Demons are having one of their better years in recent memory thus far, with a 14-8 record overall, including 4-3 in Big East Conference play.

No. 2 West Virginia (18-1, 6-1) ran away from DePaul (14-9, 4-4) tonight 66-47 to win their sixth consecutive game.

                      Morgantown, WV
                      January 27th, 2035

Boakai Clement poured in 22 points to lead No. 1 West Virginia (20-1, 8-1) to a 97-73 victory over South Florida (4-14, 0-9) this evening in Morgantown.

The Bulls, winless in conference play thus far this season, gave the Mountaineers more of a fight than most prognosticators would have expected, but the Mountaineers used a fantastic offensive showing to pull away late.

West Virginia shot 55% (38/69) from the floor and outrebounded South Florida 32-22. The Mountaineers also shot 47% (9/19) from beyond the arc.

West Virginia had a big advantage inside, where Shannon Edwards and Nik Buscher dominated. Edwards tallied 16 points and five rebounds and Nik Buscher tallied an efficient 20 points, nine rebounds, and three blocks on 9/12 shooting. Charles Rickert also had a great game from off the bench with 18 points and six rebounds. Rickert shot 4/5 from beyond the three-point line.

Junior guard Phillip Bush scored a career-high 25 points to lead South Florida in scoring as he did all he could to keep the struggling Bulls in the game. Point guard Collis Cuic paced the offense with 13 points and six assists and Wahab Crenshaw added 12 points and four rebounds.

The Bulls shot 51% (29/57) from the floor this evening and 55% (6/11) from beyond the three-point arc. Ultimately, West Virginia's advantage in rebounding (32-22) and turnovers (14-8) proved to be decisive.

Tonight's win gives the Mountaineers 20 wins on the season. West Virginia has won at least 20 games in every game since head coach James Frizzell has been in Morgantown and Frizzell himself has garnered at least 20 wins in every season aside from his inaugural season at Princeton back in the 2007-2008 season.

West Virginia will host Providence next on Tuesday.

Nik Buscher had the game of his life as he poured in career-highs in points and rebounds to lead No. 2 West Virginia (21-1, 9-1) to a 108-67 demolition of Providence College (9-12, 4-6) this evening in Morgantown.

Buscher scored a career-best 37 points and added 21 rebounds, another career-high. He also added four steals and four blocks and shot 15/27 from the field, along with 7/9 from the free throw stripe.

"[Buscher] was fantastic," remarked West Virginia head coach James Frizzell after the game. "That was one of the most dominating performances I've ever had the privilege to coach. His presence scoring and on the boards was second-to-none. He's been fantastic since he first stepped foot here in Morgantown last season, but today he took his talents to another level."

Shannon Edwards added 13 points and eight boards for West Virginia and Felipe Delgado poured in 19 points and five boards, shooting 6/7 from the field. Charles Rickert also scored 12 points and Belton Mombollet added 10 points on a perfect 4/4 from the field.

The Mountaineers scored a season-high 108 points this evening, breaking the previous season-high mark of 104 points set against Rhode Island in their season-opener. Tonight, the Mountaineers shot 51% (41/80) from the field overall and outrebounded the Friars 45-26.

Josko Dawn was Providence's leading scorer with 18 points and four steals. Shantay Ingram notched a double-double for the Friars with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Next, West Virginia will face St. John's this coming Saturday in New York.

                                February 6th, 2035

Neal Gomes scored 17 points and Aron Whaley and Louis Park added 16 and 14 points, respectively, as Pittsburgh shocked the basketball world by handing No. 1 West Virginia (22-2, 10-2) their second loss of the season this evening in Pittsburgh with a 71-67 victory over the top-ranked Mountaineers.

The Panthers (11-12, 5-6) were given little chance tonight, but finally managed to live up to their preseason billing against their rivals from Morgantown. West Virginia had one of their worst shooting outings of the season at just 39% (27/70) from the field. West Virginia also lost the rebounding battle 32-30.

"Pathetic!" beamed West Virginia head coach James Frizzell in the postgame press conference when questioned about his team's performance. "Tonight was an embarrassment. I understand this is [Pittsburgh's] super bowl to have a chance to knock off the No. 1 team in the land at their place, but the performance we put on tonight was one of the worst I've ever been apart of. I'm embarrassed, and the team's embarrassed. We were dominated in all facets of the game. We're supposed to be the best team in the country and we put on a performance like this? We're going to get back in the gym tomorrow morning and try to get things worked out before Saturday [when West Virginia hosts Notre Dame]."

Frizzell has typically had Pittsburgh's number since taking over as head coach in Morgantown over a decade ago, but that all went by the wayside today.

After tonight's game, Frizzell is now two games short of 1,000 games coached and three games short of 800 career victories.

Shannon Edwards was West Virginia's leading scorer tonight with 17 points, five rebounds, and three blocks. Nik Buscher totaled a 15-point, 12-rebound double-double, but shot an inefficient 6/21 from the field.

The Mountaineers will look to get back on track at home against Notre Dame on Saturday.
