Top-ranked West Virginia (19-0, 7-0) pulled away in the second half to defeat No. 20 Cincinnati 90-70 this evening in Morgantown.

The Bearcats (14-6, 5-3) jumped out to a 19-8 lead early on and led the Mountaineers for most of the first half before WVU took their first lead of the game in the closing minutes of the half. Cincinnati grabbed the lead back after halftime and both teams traded leads for much of the second half before the Mountaineers went on an extended run midway through the half to take a double-digit lead, a lead they never relinquished the rest of the way as they ended up winning by 20 points.

"It was one of those patented runs we've seen from them a lot this year," explained Cincinnati head coach Joe Jones. "They finally started hitting their threes and there's nothing we could do as they took a close game and turned it into a blowout just like that."

Myron DeLeon scored 16 points and added four assists to lead the Mountaineers in scoring. His four threes were instrumental to West Virginia's run to blow open the game. Skip Bradford added 14 points and seven rebounds and Dedrick Packevicius scored 10 points. Ije Przybyszewski only came one rebound and two assists short of a triple-double as he totaled 10 points, nine rebounds, eight assists, and five steals. Shannon Edwards came off the bench to scored 11 points and grab five boards.

Senior forward Jerrod Buckman came off the bench to scored 19 points and grab nine rebounds to lead the Bearcats in both categories. Gregory Carlson and Torris Winklfield scored 12 and 11 points, respectively.

The Mountaineers outrebounded Cincinnati 43-29 and shot an impressive 14/30 (47%) from beyond the arc.

Next, West Virginia has one day off before hosting Notre Dame on Saturday.

Yeah, we live and die by the three, which is kind of concerning considering if we have an off game we could be in trouble.

Notre Dame (12-8) vs. #1 West Virginia (20-0)
          WVU Coliseum
          Morgantown, WV
          January 28th, 2034

No. 1 West Virginia (20-8, 8-0) won their 20th game of the year this afternoon in Morgantown, WV with an 82-56 victory over visiting Notre Dame (12-8, 4-5). The Fighting Irish actually led 29-27 at halftime, but after shooting just 24% in the first half, the Mountaineers erupted for 55 points in the second half to outscore Notre Dame 55-27 the rest of the way to win by 26 points.

Nik Buscher nearly single-handily kept West Virginia in the game in the first half with 17 of his career-high 32 points. He also added 13 rebounds and three steals. Buscher was the the only West Virginia player to score or rebound in double-figures. He shot 9/13 from the field and 14/17 from the free throw line as he put on the best performance of his career on a night WVU had trouble hitting the broad side of a barn.

"Nik [Buscher] was fantastic," said West Virginia head coach James Frizzell after the game. "He's played some great ball this year, but today was on another level, and we really needed it since our outside shots weren't falling in for most of the game. I have no doubt he's going to be a great one at the next level."

After a much better shooting second half, West Virginia ended the game shooting 43% (28/65) from the field, but just 25% (8/32) from three-point range. The Mountaineers also won the turnover battle 13-7.

Atila Gates scored 11 points to lead Notre Dame in scoring and Dwayne Carbaugh added 10 points.

Next, West Virginia will travel to Milwaukee to face Marquette next Wednesday.

Duquesne has been an A-10 power for some time in this legacy, but New Mexico State is a new one. Iona is sneaking up there, too!

No. 1 West Virginia (21-0, 9-0) narrowly kept their undefeated season alive this evening on the road in Milwaukee, WI as the Mountaineers edged Marquette 107-103 in overtime.

The Golden Eagles (9-11, 4-6) came into this game with a sub-.500 record and one would not have expected them to give the Mountaineers their toughest game of the season, but they came out and gave us another WVU-Marquette classic, even in a down year for the Golden Eagles.

Marquette led for much of the second half and led 90-87 until WVU small forward Myron DeLeon hit an open three-pointer from the wing with 40 seconds left to tie the game at 90 apiece. Both teams came up empty on their final possessions of regulation, sending the game to overtime.

The Mountaineers finally took control in overtime as they jumped out to an early lead and never let Marquette get back into it, and ended up winning by four points, a score that made the overtime period look closer than it really was as Marquette hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to cut the lead from seven points to four.

"That was an embarrassing defensive performance," bemoaned a frustrated West Virginia head coach James Frizzell after the game. "We won and that's great, but this is not a performance to be proud of. I give Marquette credit because they played good basketball, but I simply can't be happy after having us surrender 103 points and 90 in regulation.

"Credit goes to Myron [DeLeon] for hitting that big shot to tie the game in the waning seconds. We haven't really played any close games this season, so it was good to see us close the deal when the stakes were high tonight, because I'm sure we'll be in for some close games in March and down the stretch."

Nik Buscher scored 24 points to go along with 16 points and three blocks to lead West Virginia in all three categories. Myron DeLeon added 22 points, five rebounds, and four assists and Dedrick Packevicius scored 18 points. Ije Przybyszewski paced the offense with 14 points, five assists, and six steals.

Florentino Kapono scored 26 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead Marquette in both categories. William Parham and Neiham Archie scored 17 and 16 points, respectively, and Lewis Pocius and Jibran Parham each scored 11 points from off the bench.

Marquette shot 53% (33/62) from the floor and 32/38 (84%) from the free-throw line. West Virginia wasn't too shabby, either, at 51% (36/71) shooting and 55% (16/29) from three-point range.

Tonight's four-point victory is West Virginia's first single-digit victory of the season. Their previous smallest margin of defeat was 10 points, set against Syracuse on January 10th.

Next, West Virginia will host Providence on Saturday. West Virginia blew out Providence in their earlier meeting this season 96-63 on January 7th in Providence.

A nail-biter, but all undefeated seasons have some games you just gotta scrape by in. Got the dub, gotta put it behind you now and have a better defensive performance next time out.

I just had a pretty epic game against Marquette in my Boise State legacy too. They like to score points, but then again so do you. 16 3's... Way to shoot the rock.

There is a sticky thread in the Dynasty HQ section of the forums here that have all those tables as well as tables for NBA,MLB,NCAA and NFL football.

Man, Marquette was always a thorn in my side when I was at St. John’s. Thought they were going to land the upset as I read through. Way to fight through it and stay undefeated. Crazy to see the scores of your games. Interested to give your sliders a shot this week and see how they play out.
