Feels like the tournament is just a formality until West Virginia and Texas collide. The target is definitely on your backs, good luck.

We shall see, but that certainly looks quite likely! Several potentials for rematches along the way for us, including against Connecticut in the regional final and Virginia Tech in the Final Four.

Subsequently, West Virginia went on a 13-0 run to extend the lead back to 58-41. Pepperdine battled back to make it a single-digit lead later in the half, but West Virginia powered ahead late, allowing head coach James Frizzell to put in the reserves in the last few minutes.

Dedrick Packevicius hit a three-pointer with 52 seconds remaining to put West Virginia (33-3) up 86-80 and the Mountaineers held on to defeat the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (24-10) this evening 92-83 to advance to the Elite Eight.

Packevicius missed his first five three-point attempts of the game, but made his final two, including the critical three-pointer that virtually sealed the game, and ended with 14 points scored. Nike Buscher also tallied a double-double with 16 points, 11 rebounds, five assists, and three blocks.

West Virginia outrebounded Georgia Tech 37-26, which helped to nullify Georgia Tech's advantage in field goal percentage (50% to 46%).

Ernesto Drayton was unconscious from deep for Georgia Tech, where he shot 5/6 from beyond the three-point arc en route to 19 points and eight assists. Vedran Ballard also scored 19 points and added seven rebounds. Rexson Garnett added 15 points and five assists. Drayton, Garnett, and Ballard combined to shoot 11/13 from three-point range. The rest of the team combined to go 0/4 from deep as the Yellow Jackets shot 11/17 (65%) from three-point range overall.

No. 2-seeded Connecticut defeated Texas A&M 85-58 in the other South Regional Semifinal to also advance to the Elite Eight. The Huskies will face West Virginia in two days with a trip to the Final Four on the line. The Mountaineers defeated the Huskies 90-77 in Hartford in the regular season and 102-71 in the Big East Tournament Title Game earlier this month.

Buscher scored 165, man what a game!

But for real, good test from Tech, there, but a gutsy little win. Onward!
