Jeez, Fairleigh Dickinson will be getting a monster (ratings-wise) in Havens for a year. I'd like to see how they do in two years when he's eligible to play.

Also, ouch. Only returning one starter for next year could make things rough (although it seems like rough for WVU means barely winning/losing the Big East and only getting to the Sweet 16). Good thing the one that's returning is your best player.

Man, I don't venture over here too often because when I do have free time I'm in the football boards but do I miss following this. I honestly might have to bookmark the thread to make sure I keep up with it. It's absolutely incredible what you have going here. Looking at Coach Frizzell's career is nothing short of legendary.

Tough L in the natty. That game would have had me sweating if I was playing. It doesn't get any easier with all the guys you are losing too. But I'm sure coach has something in store.

Yeah, it was a shame to lose Havens as he would have gotten plenty of playing time next season (probably not as a starter, though). Like you said, I’m sure he’ll get plenty of playing time now, at least. I only have myself to blame as I barely played him at all last year. I usually only go three-deep with my PF/C combo and he was the fourth big for me. I tried to get him enough garbage minutes this season to satisfy him, but I evidently failed in that endeavor. He’s not a bad player, but he lacks the size at C that I consider to be pretty important, particularly in CH 2K8. He also has struggled to score, though he as a little more effective last season in limited action.

Big changes are certainly on tap next season with lots of new faces moving into the starting lineup, but we certainly have plenty of talent coming back so we should be in good shape to reload. It wouldn’t surprise me to see us still have the best OVR rating in the Big East.

Thanks, buddy. I need to visit the football board more, as well!

It wasn’t too fun losing that one, but at least it was a fun game. Hate to lose a game on the last shot, though. I guess at least it wasn’t them hitting a buzzer beater three to beat me.

                2034 Recruiting Class

After losing four of five starters to the NBA Draft, West Virginia head coach James Frizzell hauled in a fantastic recruiting class this offseason. Four recruits signed with the Mountaineers in the 2034 class, including three 5* All-Americans, and all four players are ranked in the top 51 overall.

Damon Pasco headlines the class as the #3 overall recruit in this year's class and the top point guard. Pasco is one of two recruits from Philadelphia, PA who signed with the Mountaineers this year. He doesn't have great size at 5'11" and 177 lbs., but he is a good shooter and is very athletic. He was the Mr. Basketball for Pennsylvania in this year's class. In a lot of ways, he seems very similar to Ije Przbyszewski, who had a similar build and skill set and left after his junior year for the NBA Draft this offseason.

Joshua Wilkerson also hails from Philadelphia, PA. A 5* recruit ranked #18 overall and as the #6 shooting guard, he has good size at 6'4" and 190 lbs. He is a great athlete, but his real strength is his defense, which he particularly excels at. His shot needs some work as he struggles a bit to shoot from deep, but that should improve as he spends time in the program.

Morris Flipovic hails from Berkeley, CA. Flipovic is a 5* recruit and the #24 overall recruit and #12 point guard in this year's class. Flipovic has a little more height than Pasco at 6'0", but size still isn't his strength. He is less refined compared to Pasco, but some analysts believe he has the potential to grow into a great player down the road. He will likely be a strong redshirt candidate this year.

Belton Mombollet is the final recruit to sign in this year's class. Mombollet comes from Memphis, TN and is ranked as the #51 overall recruit and #7 power forward in this year's class. Mombellet doesn't have great size for a power forward, but he isn't small at 6'8", either. He is an excellent defender. His services will likely be needed immediately as a backup low post player with Pearson Haven's decision to transfer before his senior season.

This year's class is ranked No. 2 in the nation and first in the Big East. "I'm really excited about these kids and I can't wait to see what they have to offer," beamed West Virginia head coach James Frizzell about this year's class. "Some of these guys will see some playing time right away and some may have to wait a year or two, but I'm confident all of them will be big-time contributors eventually for our program and I think we can win a lot of games together."

                Signed Recruits:
                1. Damond Pasco 5'11 177 (Philadelphia, PA - #3 overall, #1 PG) 5* All-American, Mr. Basketball
                2. Joshua Wilkerson 6'4 190 (Philadelphia, PA - #18 overall, #6 SG) 5* All-American
                3. Morris Flipovic 6'0 171 (Berkeley, CA - #24 overall, #12 PG) 5* All-American
                4. Belton Mombollet 6'8 212 (Memphis, TN - #51 overall, #7 PF) 4*

I see Texas is #18. Did they lose alot from last year?

Yeah, I believe so. Their overall rating dropped by 7 points. I think they has a lot of upperclassmen last year and not too much depth. I am out of town for the next few days, so I cannot check, though.

Its all good bud! I knew you lost 4 of your starters so I figured they lost a good amount with how far they dropped compared to you.

Very good class and WVU is talented, but always very interesting to see how the games actually play out when you have to replace so much starting talent.

Yeah, they must have. I’ll check soon if I remember.

EDIT: Looks like four of their top eight players are freshmen, so it does look like there was a lot of turnover based off that.

Yep, agreed. Lots of talent this year, but not a lot of experience, so this season could go a lot of different ways.

2034-2035 West Virginia Individual Player Preview

                                Starters:

PG #22 Eliz Pocius 6'3 185 (Austin, TX) 87 overall JR

Eliz Pocius moves into the starting lineup this season after backing up Ije Przybyszewskifor the past two seasons. Pocius had a strong performance in limited action as Przybyszewski's backup last season, shooting 43% from the floor and 37% from three-point range, a vast improvement over his poor performance as a freshman the year before. Pocius is athletic and shoots well from beyond the arc, and his size at 6'3" is good for a point guard.

SG #24 Boakai Clement 6'5 217 (Nashau, NH) 81 overall JR (RS)

Boakai Clement has had a rocky road since arriving to Morgantown a few years ago. He saw very little action in his freshman season, and then redshirted the following year. His break came mid-season last season as a redshirt sophomore. Clement's playing time was relegated to garbage time at the beginning of the season, but his strong performance in those minutes got him increased playing time throughout the season, and by the postseason he was seeing regular action backing up Dedrick Packevicius at shooting guard. With Packevicius graduated, Clement will see plenty of playing time this season and will start at shooting guard. He doesn't offer much aside from shooting, but he's lethal from beyond the arc, where he shot 41% last season, and has a very quick release that allows him to get shots off with little space to work with.

SF #11 Felipe Delgado 6'9 218 (Seattle, WA) 84 overall SO

Felipe Delgado will move into the starting lineup to start the year at small forward with Myron DeLeon's graduation. Delgado had a solid season last year, shooting well from beyond the arc (37%), but he struggles with ball-handling. If he can't improve on this, he could see his playing time suffer at the benefit of junior small forward Charles Rickert. Delgado is also a strong defender.

PF #54 Shannon Edwards 6'11 265 (St. Louis, MO) 84 overall SR

Shannon Edwards had a fantastic season in 2033-2034 (10.8 PPG, 6.3 RPG) and will step into the starting lineup as a senior this season. He has great size (6'11", 265 lbs.) for a power forward and he and center Nik Buscher will make West Virginia's frontcourt possibly the best in the nation. Edwards has a fantastic low-post game and also has the ability to hit shots from deep (44% 3PT last season).

                                C #55 Nik Buscher 7'3 284 (Dallas, TX) 82 overall SO

Nik Buscher was the undisputed star of last year's team. The freshman burst onto the scene with a 17.5 PPG, 11.2 RPG performance and was named the Freshman of the Year nationally. He returns this season and will look to build on his impressive performance in 2033-2034. Buscher is one of the best back-to-the-basket players in the country and his size and rebounding ability are elite. This team will likely go as far as Buscher takes them.

                                Bench:

PG #15 Damond Pasco 5'11 182 (Philadelphia, PA) 80 overall FR

Damon Pasco comes to Morgantown as a highly-touted prospect (#1 PG). He doesn't have great size, but he is very quick and is also a great shooter from deep. He will serve as the primary backup to starting point guard Eliz Pocius this season.

SG #21 Tommie Blackshear 6'5 208 (Corpus Christi, TX) 81 overall JR

Tommie Blackshear has struggled to get much playing time in his first two seasons in Morgantown. He shot just 26% from the floor last season in limited action. With the graduation of Packevicius, he will have an opportunity to reclaim some playing time this season, but it remains to be seen if that will happen. He will certainly have to play a lot better than last season if he wants to be a part of the regular rotation.

SG #31 Joshua Wilkerson 6'5 190 (Philadelphia, PA) 78 overall FR

Joshua Wilkerson is another Philadelphia-bred prospect (joining Damond Pasco) and is highly-regarded (#6 SG). He has good size at 6'5" and his calling card comes on the defensive end of the floor. He struggles with his jump shot, particularly from deep, which could hinder his entrance into the rotation this season.

SF #20 Charles Rickert 6'7 222 (Greensboro, NC) 83 overall SO

Junior Charles Rickert had a good season last year and will look to improve on that this season. He will undoubtedly see significant playing time at small forward and potentially shooting guard this season, and could supplant Felipe Delgado in the starting lineup depending on how both perform. Rickert has a very quick shot release and is a good shooter from deep. He also has a quick first-step and is adept at finishing around the rim.

PF #33 Belton Mombollet 6'9 214 (Memphis, TN) 77 overall FR

Freshman Belton Mombollet enters Morgantown as the #7-ranked power forward from this year's recruiting class. He has decent, but not elite, size, and is a good defender. He doesn't perform exceedingly well in any particular area offensively, but he can score in limited opportunities. He will serve as the primary backup for Nik Buscher and Shannon Edwards this season at power forward and center.

PF #12 George Neale 6'9 234 (Tulsa, OK) 74 overall SO (RS)

Former walk-on George Neale returns to the active roster this season after redshirting last year. He hasn't seen any significant playing time since joining the team a couple years ago, and that is unlikely to change this season.

                                Reserves:

PG #1 Morris Flipovic 6'0 174 (Berkeley, CA) 74 overall FR (Redshirting)

Freshman Morris Flipovic joins West Virginia this season as the #12 point guard from this year's class. He is a well-regarded prospect, but is a little rough around the edges and will redshirt this season because of the Mountaineers' depth at guard. He needs to work on his outside shot, but has a little better size than Damond Pasco.

                                C #10 Brandin Plummer 7'0 282 (Chula Vista, CA) 67 overall FR (Redshirting) (Walk-On)

Brandin Plummer joins West Virginia as a walk-on this season. He has great size at 7'0", 282 lbs. and is strong around the basket. Unfortunately, his back-to-the-basket game is non-existent and he struggles to shoot the ball with any accuracy beyond a few feet from the basket. He's a very raw talent, but with some development could see more opportunities down the road as he has the physical tools to make an impact. He will redshirt this season.
