Congrats on that win over the Cav's. I still think you need to give them a shot a a revenge game next season though..

Now the question is will we see a Frizzell/WVU dynasty of multiple championships similar to Wooden/UCLA's domination or will Coach Frizzell get the itch to move on and challenge himself somewhere else. I am curious if you will land a lifetime contract offer somewhere at some point.

I'm sure Palmer going 0-7 hurt. But he redeemed himself with 16 rebounds. Plus thankfully you other guys picked it up and you didn't need his help on offense

Virginia will definitely be on the schedule next season.

Yes, that is the question. I'm not sure what I want to do. I don't really want to leave, but if it becomes too easy and I almost never lose games, it might drive me to leave. USF's coach is getting up there in age if I ever want to head back there and try to win a championship, and UNC Greensboro's coach is getting older if I ever want to try that.

As far as a lifetime contract, I am currently on a seven-year contract with WVU (I think I have four years left, but I might be wrong on that count). I believe this game gives you a lifetime contract after the seven-year contract is over. Or so I have read, anyways...

Yeah, Stevenson and Palmer have had some bad shooting games at times since I lowered inside shooting to 42, but I like it.

            NCAA Tournament - Championship Game

West Virginia won its second championship in three years and their third in a decade this Monday evening in thrilling fashion as the Mountaineers (39-1) defeated Louisville (36-6) for the third time this year with a 64-62 victory in the National Championship Game in Indianapolis.

The game lived up to all the hype it was surrounded by. Louisville was the only team to beat the Mountaineers this season and the thought was that maybe they could do it again.

Louisville took the lead early, but the Mountaineers battled back to tie the game at 26 apiece as the two teams went to their respective locker rooms at halftime. Both teams picked the game up right where it left off after halftime as the game was neck-and-neck throughout the second half, right until the final buzzer signaled a two-point WVU victory.

Louisville gained a 59-54 lead with 5:30 remaining, but the Mountaineers responded with some 1-3-1 defense and Fred Joiner took it on himself to deliver a personal 6-0 run on his own to give the Mountaineers a 60-59 advantage with 4:23 remaining. Louisville tied it up on the following possession at the foul line to make it 60-60.

Armondo Whelchel blew a chance to give the Mountaineers the lead with 2:30 remaining as he went 0/2 from the free throw line, which was especially surprising considering he shot over 80% from the stripe on the season.

However, senior star Nile Stevenson delivered when it mattered most as he hit a turnaround shot from the post with 1:50 remaining to give the Mountaineers a 62-60 lead. On the Mountaineers' ensuing possession, he was fouled and he went 2/2 from the free throw line to give WVU a 64-60 lead. Then, on the next Louisville possession, he came up with a huge block to deny the Cardinals a chance at pulling to within a possession.

The Cardinals did score to get within two points and had a chance at a halfcourt heave to win the game, but the shot was nowhere close and the Mountaineers won 64-62 in one of the best national championship games in recent history.

Nile Stevenson ended with a solid double-double with 10 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, and two blocks, though he struggled from the field, where he only shot 3/9. Nevertheless, he came up big when it mattered most and scored the Mountaineers' final four points of the game. However, the real star for the Mountaineers tonight was junior point guard Fred Joiner. Joiner was spectacular at creating contact and getting to the line and was deadly efficient when he got there, where he went 12/12. In the end, he scored 25 points on just 12 shots and grabbed three rebounds.

Dee Granger led Louisville in scoring with 21 points and four rebounds. He was especially deadly in the first half and his scoring allowed the Cardinals to build an early advantage over West Virginia. Jeromy Shakur was the only other Louisville Cardinal to reach double-figures as he added 10 points.

"I don't know what to say," beamed WVU head coach James Frizzell. "People might say that we didn't face a lot of adversity in our first four games of this tournament as we won each game in relatively comfortable fashion, but we played a couple nail-biters here in Indianapolis. We showed we can compete and win games even when the going gets tough and I'm proud of this team for that. I love this win for our seniors. Nile, Deno, and Sambra have been great for this team over the last four years. I know they've already won one, but there's never won as sweet as your last."

Nile Stevenson and Deno Woodards aren't done with their basketball careers, however, as both are projected to be picked in the 2030 NBA Draft. Stevenson is projected as a lottery pick while Woodards is projected to go in the second round.

West Virginia finishes the season at 39-1 and are your 2030 NCAA Basketball National Champions!

                  Congrats on your national championship!

Your team only shooting 33% from the field could've very easily doomed you. Luckily enough, Louisville also shot like crap, only shooting 38%.

Congrats Coach! Wow that game could've been really ugly with that shooting!

losing 5 players to graduation/draft though is tough but I think you recruit good enough to make up for it!

Congrats on the title. I like the fact that Olson and Whelchel left because that kind of thing happens in real life after teams win championships. With Palmer and Joiner returning to lead what I am guessing is going to be a pretty solid class, I would think you will still challenge for a Big East Title.

Your team only shooting 33% from the field could've very easily doomed you. Luckily enough, Louisville also shot like crap, only shooting 38%.
Yeah, we had some general offensive struggles in this tournament, but our defense carried us, as it has all year long.

Yeah, that was a bit of a surprise. I could easily see Whelchel leaving in real life, but I hadn't seen a sophomore leave for the NBA before in this game, so it caught me by surprise and threw my plans off. Olson was an even bigger surprise given how little he's played over the course of his career. I guess those great games he had in the post-season really pumped up his draft stock or something. He is a nice-rated player, but still. He would have been my starting PF next season for sure (and Whelchel obviously would've been starting SF).

It is frustrating since I only have three scholarships available this offseason, which means I will only have 11 players on the roster next season (excepting walk-ons, which I probably will cut as usual). The scholarships unfortunately don't adjust until the following year when dealing with guys who leave early in this game...

losing 5 players to graduation/draft though is tough but I think you recruit good enough to make up for it!
Yeah, the recruiting class shaped up pretty nicely. I will post that next (already written up).

With Palmer and Joiner returning to lead what I am guessing is going to be a pretty solid class, I would think you will still challenge for a Big East Title.
Next season's team is rated a 94 OVR (little spoiler, haha), which is the same this year's team was at the start of the season (we finished at 96 OVR). The team might be a little worse, but it's still a very solid team. I might argue that some of the players' skillsets don't fit my usual mold, as well, though, so a repeat of 39-1 and national champions may not be likely, however.

Now, it's time to win another and go back-to-back for the first time...
