Proffitt, for sure. Admundson can be replaced reasonably well by Barry George and Justino Whitworth, while a really good spot-up shooter, doesn't do much else for us.

        vs.
        #4 West Virginia (24-7) vs. Georgetown (10-19)
        Verizon Center
        Washington, D.C.
        March 5th, 2022

Some experts said this might be a trap game for No. 4 West Virginia (24-7, 11-7 Big East). The Hoyas had been terrible all year long, but this was Senior Night. In addition, given that Georgetown cannot finish in the top 12 of the regular season conference standings, this would be Georgetown's final game of the 2021-2022 season.

As it turns out, those experts were right. The Mountaineers, who came in looking to secure a 12-6 record in Big East play and a first-round bye, ended up being dominated by a Georgetown squad that, frankly, has been terrible this year. The Hoyas (10-19, 4-14 Big East) had won just nine games coming into the game, which only three of those coming in conference play.

Georgetown would take the lead from the tip-off and would lead 39-27 at halftime. The second half didn't go much better for WVU and, with the exception of a run midway through the half in which the Mountaineers cut the lead to five, the Hoyas would generally trade baskets with the Mountaineers, with the lead staying at eight to 14 points. In the end, the Hoyas would win 71-57.

"We came out flat and played terribly," said a deflated Coach Frizzell after the game's conclusion. "We were terrible on offense. We couldn't shoot. We fouled [Georgetown] way too much defensively. We couldn't defend. There really isn't much positive to take away from this game other than the fact that it is just one game. One game does not a season make."

Allan Pena was the only Mountaineer that showed much life as he came out strong, scoring 18 points to go along with four rebounds. Justino Whitworth had a satisfactory performance, as well, as he would add 10 points.

The Hoyas were led by a dominating effort by Dawin Timmerman, who scored 16 points. Darrian Harrison also had a nice game for Georgetown, finishing with 11 points, four rebounds, and four assists.

Wow! Im little shocked by that lose, considering how bad Geargetown has been. This just shows that every team in Big East is quality. Cant wait the BE tournament!

Dang looks like it was either a turnover or they scored when the Hoyas had the ball. Good luck in the Big East.

Yeah, guys, it was ugly. Oh well, just got to move on to the Big East Tourney. Georgetown's rating is ~81 OVR, so they aren't terrible and are capable of pulling off an upset, though they are the worst rated team in the Big East sans DePaul (which I believe is a 79 OVR).

                              March 10th, 2022

Despite blowing a 12-point halftime lead, the West Virginia Mountaineers (25-7) managed to escape unscathed during the second round of the 2022 Big East Tournament against the Seton Hall Pirates (20-12) as the Mountaineers would win 67-64.

No. 8 West Virginia would suffer through an 18-0 Seton Hall run late in the second half that gave the Pirates a 58-50 lead, but Marquel Proffitt would take over from that point on and lead WVU to victory. Proffitt would end the game with an impressive 20 points and 16 rebounds.

Allan Pena also played well for WVU, scoring 14 points to go along with nine rebounds and five steals. Osei Forney also added 12 points, five rebounds, and a pair of blocks.

Seton Hall was led by Nigel Momplaisir's 16 points, four rebounds, and three assists. Dominick Keeler would tally 15 points and eight rebounds while Cal Malone came off the bench to add 10 points.

Neither team shot well at all, but WVU owned a 44-27 advantage on the glass, which turned out to be a key statistic. The game was sloppy on both sides with WVU committing 20 turnovers compared to Seton Hall's 18. WVU also found success at the free throw line, where WVU went 26-32 while Seton Hall only went 10-17.

WVU will take on seventh-seeded Connecticut in the Big East Tournament Semifinals tomorrow evening.
