Very good gut-check win against Seton Hall! Drawing UCONN does you no favors though.

            Madison Square Garden
            New York, NY
            March 11th, 2022

No. 8 West Virginia (26-7) used a huge second half to power past No. 16 Connecticut (23-10) in the Big East Tournament Semifinals this evening at Madison Square Garden. The Mountaineers trailed 36-35 at halftime, but used a 46-point second half performance to defeat the Huskies 81-63.

All five of the Mountaineers' starters scored in double-figures, with Marquel Proffitt leading the way with 17 points and 12 rebounds. His fellow frontcourt mate Osei Forney also complied an impressive array of stats. Forney would end with 13 points, five rebounds, four assists, three steals, and three blocks. Allan Pena totaled 10 points, six rebounds, and four assists while Raynardo Admundson recorded 13 points, four rebounds, and four assists. Shooting guard Justino Whitworth added 14 points and three steals.

The Huskies were led by impressive performances from Ryann Sutton and Solomon Collum. Sutton scored a game-high 21 points and grabbed six boards. Collum tallied 16 points, three rebounds, and four assists.

With the victory, the Mountaineers will move on to face the Louisville Huskies in the Big East Tournament Championship Game. The Cardinals, ranked #12, defeated Notre Dame 76-65 in the other semifinal matchup earlier this evening to advance to the Title Game.

West Virginia and Louisville have played twice this season with West Virginia sweeping the series 2-0. WVU won the first matchup in Morgantown 76-65 over the Cardinals on January 4th. The second game was played on February 8th and featured the Mountaineers giving Louisville a thrashing on their own floor as the Mountaineers dominated from start to finish, winning 80-56.

On paper, WVU obviously has the upper hand in tomorrow's Title Game, but, as is always said, there's a reason that games aren't played on paper. The Cardinals have been on a roll lately, having won seven of their last eight games.

The West Virginia Mountaineers are your 2022 Big East Champions! No. 8 West Virginia (27-7) defeated No. 12 Louisville (25-10) 56-54 this evening in the Championship Game in what many considered to be one of the sloppiest Big East Title games in recent memory.

The Mountaineers trailed Louisville 26-21 at halftime, but played much better in the second half en route to the 56-54 victory.

WVU shot 32% from the floor and only made three of its 23 three-point attempts. Louisville didn't do much better, though, as the Cardinals only shot 39% from the floor. The Mountaineers had a huge advantage at the foul line, however, as the Mountaineers made 17 free throws compared to Louisville's nine. Compounding the free throw discrepancy, the Cardinals also turned the ball over 19 times and were careless with the ball throughout the game.

"It was ugly, to say the least," commented Coach Frizzell in the post-game press conference. "We played pretty poorly, in my opinion, but you have to give credit to the Louisville defensive effort, as well. Likewise, Louisville's struggles had a lot to do with our strong defensive effort. In the end, we didn't turn the ball over as much and hit our free throws. That ultimately was the deciding factor in the game."

The Mountaineers were led by Marquel Proffitt, who was named Big East Tournament MVP after his performance tonight. The senior center tallied 21 points, eight rebounds, and four steals. Raynardo Admundson also played well as he would end with 11 points and three steals.

The Cardinals were led by Warren Abbott's 10 points and three steals.

With the victory, the Mountaineers now await the NCAA Tournament with a 27-7 record. With a Big East Championship in the bag, the Mountaineers aren ow projected to be a #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. At worst, the Mountaineers will be a #2 seed. Note that no team coached by Frizzell has ever attained higher than a #3 seed in the NCAA Tournament. In fact, last year's National Title-winning team only received a #5 seed in the tournament.

Wow, I've been reading through the thread from start to finish for about a week now...I'm finally all caught up and I have to say you are doing a hell of a job and this could very well be the best dynasty I've ever read through. Great wins to close out the 2021-2022 season (wow!) and best of luck going into the Big Dance.

Thanks, Coach Knight! Yeah, I should get a #2 seed, at worst, and a #1 seed is quite possible, as well.
