Yeah, that was quite a game there. They were playing zone, and not being very good at it, and I was hitting open threes consistently.

        vs.
#1 West Virginia (29-1) vs. South Florida (12-14)
        USF Sun Dome
        Tampa, FL
        March 2nd, 2030

The South Florida Bulls (12-14) have had a rough season and have no realistic postseason aspirations at this point, but they played well enough to give the No. 1 team in the land a rough going tonight as the West Virginia Mountaineers (29-1, 16-1) only escaped from Tampa, FL with a narrow 73-71 victory this afternoon.

The Bulls made a run late in the first half to take a 40-39 halftime lead. They extended their lead to as many as three points early in the second half. The last time the Bulls would lead would be with 12:30 remaining and the Mountaineers would go up on subsequent possessions with a Happy Olson slam and a Predrag Gabler three-pointer from the corner to give the Mountaineers a 55-50 advantage.

However, fortunes began to turn late when starting WVU center O.J. Palmer fouled out. The Bulls went on a run to tie the game at 63-63 with 5:18 remaining after USF center Clayton Woolley converted a three-point play the old-fashioned way. The Mountaineers extended their lead to five points, 68-63, with 2:30 remaining as Fred Joiner hit one of two from the stripe after Predrag Gabler came up with another big steal. The Mountaineers would miss some free throws late, which made the game closer than it should have been, but the Mountaineers still prevailed by two points.

Armondo Whelchel was the leading man for the Mountaineers with 16 points and six rebounds. Nile Stevenson notched 15 points, five rebounds, three steals, and three blocks. O.J. Palmer was limited to only 25 minutes of playing time due to his foul situation, but in that time he totaled 13 points and nine rebounds.

Senior small forward Elliah Spaulding was the game's high man as he poured in 20 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and three steals for the Bulls. Freshman guard Winston Grant added 14 points while seven-footer Clayton Woolley ended with 13 points, four boards, and a pair of blocks.

West Virginia has six days off before taking on the Pittsburgh Panthers in both teams' final regular season game of the year on March 9th.

So, I just realized Tom Izzo is coaching at Cleveland State in this legacy. He's been there seven years!

          And he's 75 years old!

              March 9th, 2030

No. 1 West Virginia (30-1, 17-1) completed the season sweep of rival Pittsburgh (14-18, 7-11) this evening in the "Backyard Brawl" with a low-scoring 59-50 victory to end the regular season. It was also West Virginia's final home game of the season.

The Mountaineers found themselves in a real slugfest of a game with the score knotted at 26 at halftime and the Panthers giving it their all to defeat their top-ranked rivals. Pittsburgh took a small lead in the second half, but the Mountaineers battled back to tie the game at 35-35 with 13:50 remaining after Predrag Gabler hit an open three-pointer. The Mountaineers took the lead for good one minute later and Gabler hit another trey to deliver a dagger to the Panthers with four minutes remaining to make it 54-44 in favor of West Virginia. Pittsburgh battled back with a 6-0 run to cut the lead to 54-50, but the Mountaineers scored the final five points of the game to win by nine.

Gabler shot 4/6 from the field and scored 11 points for the Mountaineers. Senior Nile Stevenson led the Mountaineers in scoring with 12 points, seven rebounds, and three blocks and O.J. Palmer added 10 points, seven rebounds, three steals, and three blocks.

WVU's other two seniors did not see much action. Deno Woodards only managed 19 minutes and went 2/5 from the field for five points. Sambra Coly did not see any action on the floor as the score was never in a position where WVU head coach James Frizzell could afford to empty his bench.

Senior forward Burton Keller was Pittsburgh's only double-digit scorer as he ended with 15 points.

The Mountaineers only shot 22/61 (36%) from the floor tonight, but Pittsburgh was not much better at 18/48 (38%). The Mountaineers forced the Panthers into 17 turnovers and outrebounded their rivals 33-29.

With the #1 seed in the 2030 Big East Tournament locked up, the Mountaineers will await their opponent in the second round of the 2030 Big East Conference Tournament next week. They will have a bye in the first round.

two close games at the end of the year could have been scary for the resume.

nice to see all of your players averaging at least 1 rebound per game

I always find it crazy to think about, here you have have a bunch of 80+ rated players on your bench and yet they average less then 3 points a game, yet when we all first start out our closed legacy's we would kill just to have 1 guy rated in the mid 70's and they end up being 20+ PPG players.

I however like you tend to be one later in my career who goes the balanced offense attack with 3-4 players in double digits, if Dux and Gabler could've stepped up just a big more you could have had 6.

Yeah, those were a lot tougher than expected, especially USF. For whatever reason, I couldn't shoot against Pitt, but at least we played great defense.

Haha, oh yeah. This is so true. Even Sambra Coly, who is so far down the bench that he can barely been seen from the coaches box, would be an absolute star in a small conference at 78 OVR. I've got guys with OVRs in the mid-80s that mostly ride the pine on the bench.

My first real star was rated in the mid-70s, IIRC (Wendell Lalugba). I think Cassiand Swift came in as a 4* recruit, so he might have been higher, but I don't really remember without looking it up, which I don't feel like doing right now.

Yeah, I always tend to spread the ball around a lot. My best players might average in the 15 PPG range, but it really depends (looks like less this year). The most I have ever had a player average was 19.5 PPG.

It kind of sucks because it means that I will never get the last couple coaching attribute points, which require you to win the Player of the Year and 2K Sports Award trophies, but oh well.

I have to say that Whelchel could really be special next year if he comes back for his junior season. He could easily average 15-20 PPG if he plays 30+ MPG. The man is a real force, especially when it comes to finishing around the basket, and he has revealed himself to have a lot better jumpshot than last year.

They look like they might make the NCAA Tournament this year, actually. I am not sure how they have done in past years, but he is in his seventh year there. My guess is that he got fired from Michigan State because his career record is pretty awful considering where he was in 2007 as it were (he has 450+ losses and his win total is in the 600s).

Big East Tournament - Quarterfinal Round

Top-seeded West Virginia (31-1) blew out eighth-seeded Seton Hall (19-13) this evening 86-58 to advance to the 2030 Big East Tournament Semifinals tomorrow evening, where they will face the Villanova Wildcats.

The Mountaineers defeated Seton Hall 74-59 earlier this season on the road, but the Pirates never really had a chance this evening. They only had four points at the 11-minute mark of the first half as the Mountaineers were in lockdown mode defensively. West Virginia head coach James Frizzell was able to empty his bench for an ample portion of the second half in the blowout, with every player recording at least three minutes of playing time and each player scoring aside from 12th-man Sambra Coly.

The only faults for West Virginia were in the fouling department as they sent Seton Hall to the free throw line 29 times. Fortunately for them, Seton Hall was absolutely horrid once they got there as they only converted 18 of their attempts for a 62% percentage. O.J. Palmer was part of the reason why the Pirates got so many attempts at the line as he fouled out in just 12 minutes of action tonight at center for the Mountaineers.

Fred Joiner scored a game-high 17 points to lead West Virginia while Nile Stevenson added 15 points, nine rebounds, and three steals. Armondo Whelchel was a monster on both ends of the court as he racked up 12 points, three rebounds, and five steals. Deno Woodards closed out the double-figure scoring for the Mountaineers with 10 points and six rebounds.

Junior point guard Gregg Mobley was Seton Hall's leading scorer as he scored 14 points and dished out four assists. Senior Michael Doellman also had a nice game down low for the Pirates with 12 points and eight rebounds.

With the victory, the Mountaineers will move on the play Villanova in the semifinal round tomorrow evening. The Wildcats withstood a late Rutgers rally earlier tonight to defeat the Scarlet Knights 76-72.

With the loss, Seton Hall's NCAA Tournament hopes are dashed as they sport a lackluster RPI of 71, partly due to the fact that the Big East is only the ninth-ranked conference in RPI this season. They will hope for an invite to the NIT, though dvendors that might be a long shot.
