UVA's current coach is Brett Reed.

He's in his first season, however.

Tony Bennett is still coaching at Washington State, in his 23rd year at age 60. He career overall record is 467-314.

        vs.
        #1 West Virginia (11-0) vs. UAB (4-2)
        Bartow Arena
        Birmingham, AL
        December 22nd, 2029

The rematch of the 2029 NCAA Tournament second round game between West Virginia (11-0) and UAB (4-2) went about as same as the first game did in March as the top-ranked Mountaineers cruised past UAB 66-48 in Birmingham.

UAB kept within striking distance for a decent portion of the game, but the Mountaineers extended the lead to 37-26 after Theron Dux made a pair of free throws at the 14-minute mark in the second half to give the Mountaineers a double-digit lead they would never relinquish the rest of the way.

The WVU defense continued its strong play this season as they held UAB to 35% from the field and forced the Blazers into 20 turnovers. Unfortunately for the Mountaineers, their shooting was a bit off from three-point range, where they only went 2/14 (14%), which prevented them from pulling away and turning the game into a rout.

O.J. Palmer led WVU with 11 points, eight rebounds, and three blocks. Nile Stevenson totaled 11 points and two blocks while Armondo Whelchel came off the bench to add 10 points, five rebounds, and three steals.

Bingo Diggs scored a game-high 13 points and grabbed six rebounds for the Blazers. Freshman guard Dana Santiago also added 12 points.

Next up for West Virginia is rival Marshall on December 29th after the Christmas holiday.

Loving this series! It's really impressive what you have managed to accomplish in your years of working on this. What happened with Kansas though? They won the championship in your first year and they seemed to have really dropped off the map. They were not even in the last two tournaments.

You have to think, it's been 20 years in game since that first season. A lot can happen in 20 years

You had a slow first half against UAB. At least it was low scoring compared to how your games usually play out. Not making shots or just a real slow tempo? UAB only put up 17 so I'm guessing slow tempo?

They appear to have a pretty decent squad this season. As of December 27th, they are 9-2 with their lone losses being at #8 Stanford and at home against Saint Joseph's. As you said, their last NCAA Tournament appearance was in 2027, though, so there's some urgency there. Someone named Wes Meade is their current head coach and he is in his second year. Kansas went 23-13 last year and evidently made the NIT. Meade has a career record of 254-236. I guess he must be a CPU-generated coach that started his career since I started this legacy because a Google search of his name doesn't reveal any results.

A bit of both. The tempo was slow and neither team shot very well.

I enjoy doing this as much as I ever have. It's so fun to get deep into legacy mode like this, IMO.

                      Morgantown, WV
                      December 29th, 2029

No. 1 West Virginia (12-0) blew out rival Marshall (5-4) this evening 78-47 in Morgantown to move to 12-0 on the season with one non-conference game remaining. Tonight, the Mountaineers got off to a hot start and never looked back, leading 38-24 at halftime, and only extended their lead by a further 17 points in the second period.

The Mountaineers were especially strong on the glass, where they outrebounded Marshall 47-22. Nile Stevenson was one of the reasons why as he racked up 10 rebounds to go along with 21 points for a double-double. Fred Joiner was also strong on the glass as he pulled down an impressive seven rebounds as a point guard, and also scored 11 points and tallied four assists for the Mountaineers.

O.J. Palmer added 12 points and six rebounds as he overcame a rough 2/8 shooting night by going 8/8 from the free throw line while Armondo Whelchel came off the bench to tally 11 points and six rebounds.

West Virginia only shot 26/63 (41%) from the field and 3/14 (21%) from three-point range, but offensive rebounds and limiting mistakes were enough to keep the Mountaineers' offense flowing admirably.

Senior guard Shavlik Eppenhimer led the Thundering Herd in scoring with 13 points while fellow senior forward Kevin Dunnington added 10 points and three boards.

West Virginia will close out their non-conference slate on Monday at home against Saint Joseph's out of the Atlantic-10.

Top-ranked West Virginia (13-0) wrapped up non-conference action this evening with an 89-68 victory over the Saint Joseph Hawks (7-5) in Morgantown. Fred Joiner led the way for the Mountaineers with a career-tying mark of 23 points and also eight assists.

Saint Joseph's kept the game close until halftime, but they never really had an answer for the WVU offense, which was on fire tonight. The Mountaineers racked up 46 points in the first half and 43 in the second half. The Mountaineers put the game away in the second period by clamping down on defense themselves as they held the Hawks to only 30 second half points after holding a 46-38 halftime advantage.

In addition to Joiner's performance for West Virginia, Deno Woodards tallied 13 points, three rebounds, and four assists and Predrag Gabler also ended with 13 points and three boards. Nile Stevenson also had a nice, efficient game as he shot 5/7 from the floor and ended with 13 points and eight rebounds. Armondo Whelchel added 11 points from off the bench.

Damond Andrews led Saint Joseph's with 17 points, three rebounds, and three steals. Senior point guard Allan Kilgore added 13 points and three assists while power forward Lavell Mulholland filled up the box score with 10 points, six rebounds, four assists, and three-steals.

West Virginia will kick off Big East Conference play on Saturday against Georgetown on the road in Washington, D.C.

Haha, yeah! We'll see! It is certainly possible. Hopefully, it doesn't go the same way Kentucky's season went in real life this year, though!
