I am out of town for the next week for the holidays, but I did marathon some games in this past week to make it to the end of the regular season. I've also already done the writeups, so I'll be staggering them out while I'm gone.

Haha, I like to get to a good stopping point usually, and with the end of the regular season in sight, it seemed like a good goal.

Great Buscher game that had a respectable performance on both sides of the court. Edwards also had a good game coming from the bench and scoring ten points. I do not quite know how the NCAA season works (if there is anything like it), but from what I understand, you're well on the overall standings and leading your conference. That seems to me to be great.

Yeah, we could lose out and still make the NCAA Tournament. We are a half game up on Louisville in conference, so we are looking good there, but it’s tight.

NCAA basketball is certainly a unique system, though at least it’s not as strange as college football.

              Welcome aboard, by the way!

                  Morgantown, WV
                  February 16th, 2034

No. 2 West Virginia (24-1, 12-1) pulled away in the second half this evening in Morgantown to defeat South Florida 95-78.

The Bulls (8-17, 2-11) kept the game close for a half and the game was tied at 46-46 until the waning seconds of the first half, when Dedrick Packevicius hit a straight-away three-pointer to put the Mountaineers up 49-46 at halftime. The Bulls shot 62% in the first half.

West Virginia's depth began to take its toll on the Bulls in the second half, however, and the Mountaineers eventually pulled away to win fairly comfortably.

Shannon Edwards scored 24 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for West Virginia and Nik Buscher added another double-double with 21 points, 14 rebounds, and five assists. Eliz Pocius scored a career-high 14 points and Dedrick Packevicius added 13 points. Myron Delon also totaled 15 points and six boards.

Freshman point guard Collis Cuic paced the USF offense with 14 points, four rebounds, and seven assists. Uche McBride totaled 13 points and five assists and Charlie Sosa scored 14 points from off the bench.

Next, West Virginia will host Rutgers on Sunday.

                    February 19th, 2034

No. 2 West Virginia put on its first dominating performance in awhile this afternoon as the Mountaineers (25-1, 13-1) throttled Rutgers 100-59.

The Scarlet Knights (12-16, 5-10) were out of it from the start and the Mountaineers had put it away by the half with a 29-point lead in front of the home crowd at the WVU Coliseum in Morgantown.

As a team, West Virginia shot 53% (38/71) from the field and also 53% (16/30) from three-point range. The Mountaineers also won the turnover battle 15-6.

Tonight's 100-point performance is West Virginia's seventh game scoring in triple figures this season and the second in regulation in Big East Conference play. However, this is the first time they have scored over 100 points in regulation since January 3rd against SMU.

Mryon DeLeon scored a team-high 16 points and grabbed five rebounds for West Virginia. Nik Buscher tallied a 15-point, 13-rebound double-double and Skip Bradford totaled an efficient 14 points and four rebounds on 5/7 shooting. Ije Przybyszewski added 11 points, seven assists, and four steals and Felipe Delgado scored 10 points from off the bench.

Frederick Matela scored 15 points to lead Rutgers in scoring. Ilian Mattox added 14 points, four rebounds, and four assists and Tunji Hehn scored 13.

Next up for West Virginia is a huge rivalry game against the Pittsburgh Panthers in Pittsburgh, PA. The Panthers are 19-10 and 8-7 in Big East Conference play. Pittsburgh has won three games in a row and five of their last six games.

West Virginia, Virginia and Virginia Tech all in the Top 10, yet no signs of Duke or UNC in the Top-25.

Still looks like a very solid year for Pac-10 teams with half the conference in the Top-25

Yep, Duke and UNC have fallen off some in recent years, though Duke did back their way into a national title a few years ago.

Shannon Edwards scored 18 points and grabbed five rebounds in just 22 minutes from off the bench to lead No. 2 West Virginia to a 69-59 victory over their rival Pittsburgh Panthers this evening on the road.

Myron DeLeon added 15 points for the Mountaineers (26-1, 14-1) and Nik Buscher recorded a 10-point, 12-rebound double-double.

Junior forward Louis Park led Pittsburgh (19-11, 8-8) in scoring with 15 points. He also grabbed six rebounds.

West Virginia led 29-25 at halftime and led for the rest of the game, though the Panthers managed to keep it close. Pittsburgh's struggles at the free throw line were especially damning as they shot just 7/15 (47%) from the charity stripe.

West Virginia will have another tough road contest on Sunday at Notre Dame. West Virginia defeated the Fighting Irish 82-56 in Morgantown earlier this season, but Notre Dame has given WVU trouble in the past, especially in South Bend.

West Virginia's Boakai Clement missed a contested three-pointer as time expired in overtime this evening in South Bend as Notre Dame picked up a huge win for their NCAA Tournament hopes by defeating No. 2 West Virginia at home 81-80.

Nik Buscher had a chance to win the game for West Virginia when he went to the line for a pair of free throws with 0.3 seconds left and the Mountaineers (26-2, 14-2) down 75-74, but he missed the first free throw and made the second, sending the game to overtime.

The overtime period was tied in the waning seconds until Quentin Rivers made 1/2 from the free throw line with three seconds remaining to give Notre Dame an 81-80 lead. The Mountaineers got off a decent shot given the time remaining, all things considered, but Boakai Clement couldn't connect from deep and West Virginia went home with their second loss of the season, and their second loss in their last five outings.

Atila Gates scored a team-high 20 points for Notre Dame (16-11, 8-8) and also grabbed six rebounds. Dwayne Carbaugh totaled 12 points and four rebounds and Corbin Hicks and J.D. Sparks added 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Ije Przybyszewski scored 20 points and grabbed five rebounds to lead West Virginia in scoring. He shot a perfect 7/7 from the field, including 4/4 from three-point range. Dedrick Packevicius scored 14 points and Myron DeLeon totaled 13 points and four rebounds on just 4/14 shooting.

Tonight's game was back-and-forth during regulation, though Notre Dame generally had the edge in the late going before the Mountaineers battled back to send the game to overtime. Notre Dame shot just 12/24 (50%) from the free throw line, and thus struggled to close out the game when they probably should have been able to put it away in the final minute.

"Tonight's a tough loss, but [Notre Dame] is a good team and playing on the road is always tough," explained West Virginia head coach James Frizzell. "However, we played outside our game tonight and were too willing to sit back and launch up shots from deep. They gave us a lot of open shots from three-point range tonight and we took them, but we just weren't making them and we weren't willing to put in the work to work the ball inside and get easier shots."

Nik Buscher was held to just nine points and 10 rebounds on 4/8 shooting for West Virginia as the Mountaineers struggled to work the ball inside to him. 49 of West Virginia's 80 field goal attempts tonight came from three-point range, where they shot just 27% (13/49).

Despite tonight's loss, the Mountaineers have already clinched the No. 1 seed in the Big East Tournament and the Big East regular season title.

West Virginia will close out their home schedule on Wednesday, March 1st against No. 21 Louisville on Senior Night. After that, the Mountaineers will travel to Chicago to take on the DePaul Blue Demons on Saturday, March 4th in both teams' regular season finales.
