Wtf is up with Duquesne and the A10 in general in this legacy? They routinely do well and usually end up with a few high seeds in the big dance. I faintly remember Duquesne being a 1 seed a few years earlier in this legacy if I'm not mistaken.

The A-10 always turns into a monster conference in dynasties on CH 2K8.

Yeah, I've seen this happen in a few other people's legacies, as well. It is something with the game's simulation engine or recruiting patterns. The A-10 is better than some of the power conferences in this legacy (probably better than the Big East in a lot of years, honestly). Duquesne, in particular, has been great over the last decade, and I've noticed Charlotte coming on strong recently, as well.

It's kind of cool to see things shift, to see great teams and conferences rise and fall over the years.

In one dynasty I took a job in the A-10 and really enjoyed it because it had morphed into such a power conference that it was always a big challenge, which is sometimes tough to come by.

Yeah, I kind of wish I had taken a job there during my step up to the power conference level instead of taking a job with USF in the WCC. Although the A-10 really is a power conference in this legacy for all intents and purposes at this point, I suppose.

              NCAA Tournament - Second Round

After missing out on the Sweet Sixteen for the first time in nine years last season, the West Virginia Mountaineers are returning to the Sweet Sixteen this year with an 85-73 victory over Saint Joseph's this evening in Denver, CO.

The Mountaineers (28-7) found themselves in deep trouble at the start of the game as the Saint Joseph's Hawks (24-12) rocketed out to a 20-4 lead to begin the game. However, the Mountaineers finally got their head in the game and slowly clawed back into the game over the remainder of the half, eventually taking their first lead of the game at halftime, 35-34.

The Hawks scored the first four points of the second half to take a 38-35 lead, but the Mountaineers followed that up with a run of their own to take their final lead of the game that they carried through to the final buzzer as they controlled the remainder of the game to slash the Hawks' dreams of a Sweet Sixteen Cinderella story of their own.

After a career outing against Texas-San Antonio, Shannon Edwards scored 16 points, eight rebounds, and five steals for West Virginia tonight. Dedrick Packevicius added 15 points and seven rebounds and Myron DeLeon totaled 17 points and four rebounds. Skip Bradford struggled to shoot the ball, but ended with 11 points and five boards on 4/12 shooting. Monwell Weaver also hit a pair of three-pointers and scored 11 points.

Junior guard Damir Farrell scored 25 points and grabbed four rebounds to lead Saint Joseph's in scoring. Demon Bonner tallied an impressive 18-point, 12-rebound double-double and Nehemiah Whaley scored 10 points.

"We weathered a real storm there to start the game," explained West Virginia head coach James Frizzell when asked about his team's terrible start. "Simply put, we weren't ready to play, and that's on me. Fortunately, we got our act together and really put it on them in the final 30 minutes of the game. That was an impressive performance after our blunder of a start."

After falling behind 20-4 early on, the Mountaineers outscored the Hawks 81-53 over the remainder of the game.

Syracuse and Santa Clara will face off against one another later today. The Mountaineers will face off against the winner of that game for a spot in the Elite Eight.

                  NCAA Tournament - Sweet Sixteen

Myron DeLeon scored 20 points and grabbed five rebounds to lead West Virginia into the Elite Eight with an 80-64 victory over Santa Clara tonight in Detroit, MI.

The Mountaineers (29-7) led wire-to-wire, and though they never led by more than 20 points, they held a comfortable double-digit lead for the majority of the game.

Skip Bradford added a double-double with 18 points, 13 rebounds, and four steals for West Virginia and Monwell Weaver tallied 12 points.

Junior forward Kenny Ndiaye scored a game-high 26 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead Santa Clara in both categories, but his heroic efforts were simply not enough for the Broncos (22-13). Unfortunately for Ndiaye and the Broncos, he did not get much help. Armondo Wooden was the only other double-digit scorer for Santa Clara with 12 points.

West Virginia held a decisive advantage at the free throw line, where they shot 21/26 (81%) compared to Santa Clara's 11/20 (55%). The Mountaineers also shot 49% (26/53) from the field while holding the Broncos to just 38% (23/61) shooting.

Tonight's win will give the Mountaineers a crack at No. 4-seeded Texas A&M in the Midwest Regional Final in two days here in Detroit. The Aggies knocked off No. 1-seeded Arizona State 63-50 to advance to the Regional Final. The winner will go to the Final Four, which will be played at SEFCU Arena in Albany, NY.

Gotta love good ol' Albany. NY hosting the Final Four lol. Solid win, hopefully the starters keep the turnovers down against Texas A&M. Good shooting though.

Yeah, nothing gets you pumped up for playing in the Final Four like it being held in a 4,500-seat arena in Albany, LOL. For some reason, SEFCU Arena in Albany holds the Final Four a lot in this game, which is unfortunate. It isn't a huge deal, but it does suck some of the ambiance out of playing in the National Semifinals and Finals. If I remember right, it has something to do with the Albany Great Danes coming first in the alphabet among D-1 schools in this game.

                          NCAA Tournament - Elite Eight

Shannon Edwards scored 23 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as he powered the No. 2-seeded West Virginia Mountaineers (30-7) to a Final Four appearance with an 80-72 victory over No. 4-seeded Texas A&M (23-8) this evening in the Midwest Regional Final in Detroit.

Edwards continued his strong run of games in the NCAA Tournament with a huge game from off the bench in a game when most of his team had trouble putting the ball in the basket. Edwards shot an efficient 7/11 from the field, including 1/1 from beyond the three-point arc, and also shot a perfect 8/8 from the free throw line, including six huge free throw makes in the final seconds of the game to seal the victory.

Overall, the Mountaineers shot just 37% (22/60) from the floor and only tallied six assists as a team while turning the basketball over 12 times, so Edwards' big shots on one-on-one opportunities were especially important tonight.

"This wasn't how I'd have drawn it up and if you told me before the game that we'd have a 1:2 assist-to-turnover margin, I'd have expected to get blown out, but we'll take it and move on," beamed West Virginia head coach James Frizzell in an interview post-game. "Obviously, a Final Four appearance is huge for us and I really like our chances in Albany [where the 2033 Final Four will be held]. We've been playing our best ball of the season here in March and I'm really excited to see what we can do next weekend."

West Virginia did get to the free throw line early and often, end did well converting their opportunities into points as they shot 84% (26/31) from the stripe on 31 attempts.

The Mountaineers have won eight consecutive games dating back to early March. Their last loss was a 68-57 upset loss at Villanova on March 2nd.

Monwell Weaver hit big shots for West Virginia as he shot 4/6 from beyond the arc and ended with 15 points and five rebounds. Ije Przybyzewski also added 11 points.

Senior guard Matthijs McCully scored 15 points to lead Texas A&M in scoring in his final game as an Aggie. Fellow senior guard Rod Buckendahl was the only other Texas A&M player to reach double-figures in scoring with 14 points and four assists.

Tonight's win gives West Virginia a 30-win season for the seventh time in eight seasons. Last year was the lone exception, when West Virginia finished with a record of 27-8 after getting bounced in a huge upset against Missouri in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Next Saturday, West Virginia will take on Kansas State, who comes into the game with a 31-4 mark and is the No. 1 seed out of the South Region. They blew out No. 2-seeded NC State 72-49 to win the South Regional Final.

Joining the Mountaineers and the Wildcats are two other teams from the Big East, No. 5-seeded Marquette and No. 7-seeded Connecticut, who enter the Final Four off of big upsets of No. 2-seeded North Carolina and overall No. 1 seed Virginia Tech, respectively, in their regional finals. The Big East, after being much maligned, and deservedly so, during the regular season, will have 75% of this year's Final Four representatives.

                                NCAA Tournament - National Semifinal

Kansas State is heading to the National Championship Game. The Wildcats (32-4) easily defeated West Virginia (30-8) this evening 79-63 to advance in Albany, NY.

The Wildcats scored the first points of the game and led wire-to-wire the rest of the way as the Mountaineers never really put up much of a fight after falling into an early 14-6 deficit. The Wildcats led 41-27 at halftime and led by double-digits for the entirety of the second half, including by as many as 23 points late in the game.

Marquis Norwood scored a team-high 18 points to lead Kansas State in scoring. Darell Karangwa scored 15 points and Vladimir Morrison and J.W. Jennings added 11 and 10 points from off the bench, respectively.

Pearson Havens scored 14 points and grabbed four rebounds to lead the Mountaineers in scoring. Myron DeLeon was the only other Mountaineer to score in double-figures with 10 points and nine rebounds, but he shot just 2/8 from the field, including 0/5 from three-point range. Shannon Edwards, who had put together some fine performances in this year's NCAA Tournament, tallied just seven points and five rebounds on 2/8 shooting.

Overall, West Virginia shot just 31% (20/65) from the field overall and 24% (6/25) from three-point range. Conversely, Kansas State shot 49% (27/55) from the field and 50% (8/16) from three-point range. The Wildcats also outrebounded West Virginia 41-32.

"This is a tough one to take because we clearly didn't bring our A-game," said West Virginia head coach James Frizzell when asked about his team's lackluster performance. "Kansas State has a great team, and we needed to play at a top-level if we wanted to have a chance to beat them. Instead, we missed wide open shots and generally couldn't execute on offense. It's frustrating to see the season end like this, but after an up-and-down regular season, I can't really complain about us notching another Final Four appearance. Still, it hurts to fail two wins short of winning it all."

West Virginia finishes the season 30-8. Kansas State improves to 32-4 and will take on Marquette in the National Title Game on Monday evening. Marquette defeated fellow Big East foe Connecticut 79-75 to advance to the Title Game.
