vs.
#3 West Virginia (12-1) vs. Seton Hall (9-4)
Prudential Center
South Orange, NJ
January 1st, 2022
After starting 7-4, the Seton Hall Pirates (9-4, 2-0 Big East) won their second Big East Conference game to stay undefeated in Big East play thus far, knocking off undefeated No. 3 West Virginia (12-1, 1-1 Big East) 89-82 at home.
The Pirates led 48-37 at halftime and kept the Mountaineers at arms' length through much of the second half. Seton Hall's shooting prowess ultimately won them the game as they shot 48% from the floor and 10-for-22 from downtown. WVU outrebounded Seton Hall 39 to 33, but it was not enough in the face of the shooting advantage Seton Hall enjoyed. In comparison, the Mountaineers only shot 39% from the field and five-for-21 from beyond the arc.
Seton Hall was led by Don Malone and Nick Momplaisir. Malone led all scorers with 24 points, three rebounds, and four assists while Malone totaled 22 points, five rebounds, and four assists.
The Mountaineers were led by strong efforts from Osei Forney and Marquel Proffitt down low. Both tallied double-doubles with Forney scoring 13 points and collecting 10 rebounds while Proffitt managed 12 points to go along with 13 strong rebounds. Allan Pena also scored 13 points while Justino Whitworth and Damian French tallied 12 points apiece.

Re: Coaching Legacy of James Frizzell (CH 2K8)
I still think the National Title will be harder. Winning six games in a row in the Big Dance is always tough, especially when the last 4-5 games are usually against elite teams.Comment

vs.
#2 Louisville (13-1) vs. #5 West Virginia (13-1)
WVU Coliseum
Morgantown, WV
January 4th, 2022
Apparently, it was a fluke game after all.
Or at least it seemed that way Tuesday evening as the West Virginia Mountaineers (13-1, 2-1 Big East) recovered from their 89-82 loss against Seton Hall on Saturday to down the undefeated Louisville Cardinals (13-1, 1-1 Big East) this evening 76-65.
No. 2 Louisville led 35-33 at halftime, but the Mountaineers took control in the game's second half. No. 5 West Virginia outscored the Cardinals 43-30 in the second period as the Cardinals seemed to fall apart in front of a very hostile crowd in Morgantown.
"This is a huge bounce-back game for us," gleamed Coach Frizzell after his team's huge victory. "We didn't get down and out after our loss against Seton Hall and took care of business tonight. I don't want to say that the Seton Hall game was a fluke, but we certainly didn't play our best that night. I think we showed what we are capable of tonight. [Louisville] is an excellent basketball team, as their 13-0 record coming into this game suggested. We took it to them in the second half and I think that says a lot about the direction of this basketball team."
Raynardo Admundson led all scorers with 18 points and four assists on a spectacular six-for-six shooting. Allan Pena added 15 points for the Mountaineers while Osei Forney just missed out on a double-double with 13 points, nine rebounds, and five assists. Justino Whitworth also tallied 13 points.
Marquel Proffitt had a subpar game, as he "only" scored eight points and grabbed seven rebounds. Proffitt is currently averaging 12.8 points and 10.1 rebounds per game for the Mountaineers. He leads the team in both categories.
Warren Abbott led the Cardinals with 18 points and three assists. Point guard Logon Shiloh added 13 points and four assists while Brion Akpan did work in the paint, totaling 10 points and seven boards.
West Virginia will face off against the Providence Friars in Morgantown on Saturday.

Oops, I think I lost the box score from the Louisville game. When I am home next (tomorrow night), I will try to rectify that. Sorry about that, in the meantime.Comment
