    ...Must be a typo

Anyways great start this season for the Mountaineers, keep it up!

        No typos, folks.

And I don't know about whether UT would have beat me or not last year...

        Anyways, thanks for the comments.

          #8 West Virginia (7-0) vs. Northwestern (5-3)
          Welsh-Ryan Arena
          Evanston, IL
          December 4th, 2021

No. 8 West Virginia (7-0) was on its heels for much of the game this afternoon in in Evanston, Illinois. The Northwestern Wildcats (5-3) took an early lead and exploded to a 40-27 halftime lead over the top 10-ranked Mountaineers.

However, the Mountaineers, as has become their forte this season, fought back hard in the second half. WVU trailed by only one point with 15 seconds remaining until junior small forward Jorge Henderson drained a 10-footer to give the Mountaineers a 64-63 lead with 3.8 seconds left. The defense would hold on Northwestern's ensuing possession as the Mountaineers escaped Evanston with a nail-biting 64-63 victory.

Jorge Henderson, who hit the game-winner, came off the bench to relieve Osei Forney, who fouled out with three minutes remaining. Henderson totaled nine points and three rebounds this afternoon and connected on four of his six shot attempts.

Marquel Proffitt also had a lot of foul trouble this afternoon, as he racked up three first-half fouls and only managed 16 minutes. His stats were less than impressive, as a result, as the senior center scored only four points and grabbed six rebounds. Proffitt was averaging 14 points and 13 rebounds per game prior to this affair as Proffitt's absence for much of the game played a key role in WVU's disastrous first half.

Raynardo Admundson and Allan Pena also got into double-figures in scoring. Admundson tallied 14 points, three rebounds, and six assists while Allan Pena chipped in 10 points and seven boards.

Northwestern was led by Randy Platt's 15 points, five rebounds, five assists, and three steals. Point guard Elliot Deren also played well for the Wildcats, scoring 13 points and dishing out five assists, while Bret Rasmussen came off the bench to add 11 points and three rebounds.

West Virginia will take on Sacramento State in Morgantown next Saturday.

Sacramento State (2-6) vs. #5 West Virginia (8-0)
                  WVU Coliseum
                  Morgantown, WV
                  December 11th, 2021

The Sacramento State Hornets (2-6) went into the locker room this afternoon in Morgantown with a 35-33 lead over No. 5 West Virginia (8-0). The first half was an unmitigated disaster for the Mountaineers and the second half would start off even worse as the Hornets would take a 49-40 lead early on.

It was at that point that Coach Frizzell called a timeout and WVU began to run more 1-3-1 and 3-2 zones. These new defenses stopped Sacramento State in its path and WVU would go on a 16-2 run in the next few minutes to take a 56-51 lead with under 10 minutes to go. The Mountaineers would hold on and win 77-66, upending the Hornets' upset bid and sending them back to California with their sixth loss of the season.

"We struggled badly in the first half, but as this year has shown, we seem to be a second half team," said Coach Frizzell. "I've ran plenty of 1-3-1 zone in my coaching career, but I've yet to use the 3-2 zone much and today's performance certainly impressed me. It allowed us to get out on Sacramento State's shooters and cover their jump shots more effectively."

Sacramento State freshman point guard Matthijs Robertson scored a game-high 22 points to go along with four rebounds and seven assists. Robertson was deadly from beyond the arc, where he drilled all four of his attempts from distance. Small forward Terence Glass also had a nice game for the Hornets, tallying 15 points, three rebounds, and three assists.

Osei Forney had a fine afternoon as he scored 15 points to go along with a career-high 14 rebounds and three steals. Marquel Proffitt scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds while Justino Whitworth added 10 points, four assists, and four steals. Raynardo Admundson led WVU in scoring with 17 points and three rebounds.

The Mountaineers will take on UMKC on Monday.

Frankly, it's been a little while since I played the game, but I do recall it being quite high-tempo and the high volume of shot attempts seem to reflect that.

No. 5 West Virginia (10-0) stayed undefeated this evening in Blacksburg, VA as the Mountaineers outlasted Virginia Tech 74-52 to earn their 10th win of the year.

The Mountaineers led 38-28 at the half and only extended the lead in the early minutes of the second half. The game was never really a true blowout, but it was clear that the Hokies (6-4) were outmatched against a WVU team with superior talent and coaching.

Allan Pena led all scorers with 16 points, eight rebounds, and five assists. Osei Forney totaled 15 points and seven rebounds while Marquel Proffitt recorded a double-double with 13 points, 12 rebounds, and three steals. All five WVU starters scored in double-figures this evening with Raynardo Admundson and Justino Whitworth scoring 10 points apiece.

Freshman point guard Richie Cooley was the only Hokie to reach double-digits as he recorded 12 points and three assists.

The Mountaineers will take on Utah Valley State on Christmas Day in Morgantown before kicking off conference play against Notre Dame on December 30th.
