Going against an old Ivy League foe I see. Princeton seems like it was so long ago.

Oh and where the hell is Duke?

I feel like we can beat Dartmouth fairly easily (though it likely won't be a game that is over by halftime). Then again, I thought the same thing about Georgetown (and Marshall, for that matter) and look how that worked out...

Regarding, Villanova, I do not feel good about it. I feel like my Sweet Sixteen chances are very slim with this matchup. We got pummeled by Villanova in a 26-point rout in our conference opener and since then Villanova has only gotten better while we have regressed, if anything. The Wildcats are one of the hottest teams in the country coming into the Big Dance after being left out to dead early in conference play. They've really turned it around.

Oh, yes, the days of Princeton...

The last game I played as Princeton was the 2016 Elite Eight 93-73 loss to Boston College. That game was played on April 25th, 2009, so it has been a long time (over 2.5 years!).

Regarding Duke, they are in the NIT as hard as it is to believe. They finished in the cellar in the ACC (along with NC State ), but I'm sure they'll be back. I believe they are in the NIT, but I'll have to get back to you on that as I don't have CH2K8 pulled up right now.

              vs.
              (12) Dartmouth (19-12) vs. (5) West Virginia (24-9)
              Liacouras Center
              Philadelphia, PA
              March 19th, 2021

The fifth-seeded West Virginia Mountaineers (24-9) defeated the 12th-seeded Dartmouth Big Green this afternoon 81-71 behind a strong effort behind the three-point arc and a stingy defense that created Dartmouth turnovers early and offense.

The Mountaineers shot 15-for-39 from behind the three-point arc this afternoon, accounting for 45 of their 81 points. In other words, three-pointers accounted for 56% of West Virginia's points this afternoon.

In addition, the WVU defense forced Dartmouth into 19 turnovers. The Mountaineers only turned the basketball over nine times.

West Virginia was led in scoring by senior guard Dinky Woods. Woods connected on five of his 10 shot attempts en route to 17 points and four rebounds. Raynardo Admundson nearly got a double-double as he totaled 13 points, four rebounds, nine assists, and four steals while Justino Whitworth came off the bench to hit five threes and score 15 crucial points.

The Big Green were led by Zabian Cummings, who came off the bench to go four-for-five from downtown on his way to a game-high 20 points. Darren Everstar scored 17 points and grabbed three rebounds while Felipe Hull added 13 points.

West Virginia will advance to the 2nd Round and will face the fourth-seeded Villanova Wildcats. Villanova defeated #13 Elon 104-52 earlier this afternoon and will certainly be heavy favorites in this one, especially considering how the Wildcats whipped the Mountaineers 96-71 in Morgantown earlier this season.

                        vs.
                        (4) Villanova (24-10) vs. (5) West Virginia (25-9)
                        Liacouras Center
                        Philadelphia, PA
                        March 21st, 2021

The West Virginia Mountaineers (25-9) have made the Sweet Sixteen for the second consecutive year and have eclipsed last year's win total of 24. After being pummeled by Villanova 96-71 at home earlier this season, most people expected a similar result this time, especially with this being a de facto home game for the Wildcats. Instead, the Mountaineers took charge early on, seized a 33-25 halftime lead, and held on for a 74-70 victory.

This victory marks Coach Frizzell's fourth straight trip to the Sweet Sixteen, including his two Final Four appearances in his final two years at San Francisco.

Marquel Proffitt did all he could to give the Mountaineers the victory. Proffitt scored 20 points, grabbed five boards, and collected three steals this evening and was superb on the defensive end, as well.

Senior guard Dinky Woods scored 12 points to go along with four rebounds and four steals. Woods sank several key free throws in the closing minutes to secure the victory. Woods is the NCAA leader in free throw percentage, having connected on 74 of his 76 free throw attempts on the year, a 97.3% success rate.

Osei Forney scored 12 points to go along with seven boards. Justino Whitworth continued his hot streak with 10 points, four rebounds, and four assists coming off the bench. DeShaun Chatman also came off the bench to chip in 10 points and four rebounds.

Robbie Valdez led Villanova in scoring with 13 points. Kalah See also played well for the Wildcats, scoring a career-high 11 points to go along with eight rebounds. Senior shooting guard Claude Power scored 10 points.

The Mountaineers will take on #1-seeded Texas Tech next Friday at the Alamodome in San Antonio, TX. Texas Tech defeated #16 Southern Illinois 88-75 in the first round and defeated #8 Colorado 60-55 in the second round. The Mountaineers will certainly be the underdogs, but the Red Raiders' performance in the first two rounds has certainly been uninspiring.

Nice win!! Thank goodness you guys hit your free throws.. Looks like Texas Tech is struggling a little bit so hopefully you'll reach the elite 8!

It's interesting because we started out one-for-three on free throws and then proceeded to make our last 20 attempts from the charity stripe. Whatever the case, I'll take it!
