Princeton Bounces Back With Strong Second Half Performance
Hanover, NH (AP) - The Princeton Tigers (18-4) managed to bounce back from their first Ivy League loss in 67 games yesterday with a 16 point win over a Dartmouth (6-15) team that hasn't performed well all season.
It wasn't that easy, though, as the Mean Green hung around early on and managed to make a game out of it in the first half. At one point, the Mean Green led 14-5 before Princeton kicked it in gear.
The Tigers would still trail for a good portion of the first half, but went on a run late to go ahead by six at the break.
The Mean Green came back in the second half and continued to hang around, keeping the game with 5-7 points for a good portion of the second half. However, with around eight minutes left, the Tigers finally starting to knock down shots and went on a run which culminated in a 16 point win.
"I can't say that I'm happy with our performance, but at least it's better than a loss," stated Coach Frizzell. "Still, to let one of the worst teams in the Ivy League hang around certainly isn't good news, so we better get it together."
The Tigers were led by Tim Robertson's 15 points off 5-11 shooting from three-point range as five Tigers got into double-figures scoring the basketball. Wesley French tallied 12 points, 4 assists, and 4 steals while Elliah Townsend ended with 13 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists. Romain Bright tallied 10 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists while Nikola Tolic added 12 points via four threes off the bench.
The Tigers managed to make Dartmouth a two-man show as only two Mean Green players managed more than 6 points. Edgar Slakam led the Green with 21 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists. However, the most impressive peformance of the game came from Jermemee Boone, who ended with 18 points and 7 rebounds. He shot 8-9 from he field and 2-2 from three-point range on a day that he simply couldn't miss a shot.
The Tigers will play a rare Tuesday game as they will take on the Cornell Big Red (11-8) Tuesday night. This game should have a significant impact on the Ivy League Conference race.

Princeton is Back!!!
Princeton, NJ (AP) - After an embarrassing two game skid on the round this past week, the Princeton Tigesr (19-4) came back to life and their victims were the Cornell Big Red (11-9). Princeton jumped way out on top early and at one point led 21-4.
The Tigers continued their dominance throughout the first half as the score was way out of hand at halftime, with the score 48-20 in favor of Princeton.
Coach Frizzell pulled his starters in the second half as the Tigers cruised to a blowout win.
"We really just came back and played exceptionally well tonight," said Coach Frizzell. "I knew we could play like this, but we just didn't play like it last week for whatever reason. It's nice to finally be back for our old selves. To see our team dominate a pretty decent Cornell team is very impressive."
Princeton freshman guard Tim Robertson had an exceptional game as he led the team with 20 points, a new career-high. He also went 7-11 from the field and was a very impressive 6-8 from deep.
Wesley French paced the offense with 14 points and 4 assists while Romain Bright added 10 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 6 steals.
Only one Cornell player got into double-figures and that one player only got to the 11 point mark. Gerby McFarland led the Big Red in scoring with 11 points to go along with 3 assists and 4 steals.
The Tigers will rest for a couple of days before taking on Brown (6-13) and Columbia (10-13) on Friday and Saturday.

Princeton Pulls Away in the Second Half to Win
Princeton, NJ (AP) - The 19th-ranked Princeton Tigers (20-4) picked up their 20th in of the year today as they knocked off the Brown Bears (6-14) by a final score of 80-58.
However, the game was closer than the 22 point margin of victory indicates.
Brown jumped out on top early to take a substantial lead before Princeton got into it. The Tigers slowly clawed their way back into it and Romain Bright sank a buzzer-beater three-pointer to tie the game at 32 at halftime. However, it would be a whole different story in the second half as the Princeton Tigers dominated the entire 20 minutes on their way to a 22 point victory.
"We didn't play very well in the first half, but we came around in the second half," explained Coach Frizzell. "Overall, it was a pretty good game for us. We just need to avoid those slow starts in the future because those will kill us against good basketball teams."
The Tigers were led by Wesley French's 15 points and 6 assists as he played very well as he continues to emerge from his early-season slump. Elliah Townsend sank seven of 10 shots from the field on his way to 15 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 steals. Tim Robertson recorded 14 points, 5 rebounds, and 34 steals while Romain Bright added a dozen points.
The Tigers had some trouble defending the big men down low for Brown early in the game as they took advantage of C.J. Harrington and Elliah Townsend using their superior size and strength. To counter this, Coach Frizzell changed defenses, including many zone sets, to help minimize the time Harrington and Townsend would be matched up one-on-one with Austin Cowans and Zach Cain, the Brown low-post men. It worked quite well as Cowans only managed 15 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 steals on the day while Cain ended with 8 points and 8 rebounds.
The Princeton Tigers (20-4) will take on the Columbia Lions (11-13) tomorrow. The Lions currently hold a 6-1 conference record compared to Princeton's 5-1 record. This will be a highly anticipated matchup between the Ivy League's top two teams, so it should be a good one.

Princeton Moves to #1 in the Ivy League With Blowout Victory
Princeton, NJ (AP) - Apparently, the upset loss last week to Penn Quakers really got the Princeton Tigers (21-4) going as the Tigers have now blown out two straight upper-echelon Ivy League teams in consecutive days.
"We're back to playing great offensively and defensively and we're thriving," stated Coach Frizzell.
The Tigers were three-happy today as they knocked down 14 of 31 three-point attempts, which equates to 45% shooting from beyond the arc.
Nikola Tolic was the leader from beyond the arc as he came off the bench to knock down four three-pointers to end with 13 points. Benjamin McBridle added three three-point baskets to end with 14 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists.
Elliah Townsend added 11 points and 4 rebounds while Tremmell Christensen came off the bench to end with 15 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 stewals.
Noah Stephenson led Columbia in scoring with 12 points. Wahab Schneiderman led the Lions in rebounding with 10 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 assists.
Princeton will take on Harvard (15-6) next Friday.

Tigers Romp Crimson to Continue on Roll
Cambridge, MA (AP) - The 17th-ranked Princeton Tigers (22-4) continued their roll through Ivy League play today with a dominating win over Harvard (15-7).
The game was tight through much of the first half, but the Tigers easily pulled away in the second half, leading by as much as 30 points at one point before the starters were pulled.
"It's nice to see us back in form," Coach Frizzell commented. "This isn't the same team that lost against Penn. I can't wait to face off against the Quakers again to show that game was a fluke."
The spark for the Tigers offense came from off the bench as sharpshooter Nikola Tolic came in to deliver 16 points and four three-point baskets to lead the Tigers in scoring. Benjamin McBridle also had a nice game off the bench, totaling 11 points and 3 rebounds. Romain Bright added 12 points and 3 steals while Wesley French paced the offense with 10 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assist, and 3 steals.
The Harvard Crimson were led by senior guard Walker Salisbury, who ended with 15 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists. However, he only shot 6-21 from the field and 1-7 from three-point range, so he was not very efficient. Francis McFarland was a much more efficient 4-10 shooting as he ended with 10 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals.
The Tigers will take on the Yale Bulldogs (5-18) tomorrow on the road before taking on Columbia (12-14) and Brown (6-16) on the road next week. The Tigers will play their final two home games on March 4th and 5th before playing their final regular season game at Cornell (12-11) on March 8th.Last edited by superjames1992; 04-16-2009, 02:16 AM.Comment

Princeton Romps Yale
Cambridge, MA (AP) - The Princeton Tigers (23-4) continued their stretch of domination as they absolutely crushed the Yale Bulldogs (5-19) in this Saturday afternoon affair.
The Tigers jumped out early and never looked back. The second-string was in for much of the second half for the Tigers and they still managed to put 49 points up on the scoreboard against a cupcake Yale team.
"We looked good, but Yale probably isn't the team that you want to judge yourself against," explained Coach Frizzell. "We won by 41 points, but we only shot 24% from three-point range, which is a bit concerning."
However, the Tigers held Yale to 31% from the floor and only 2-14 from downtown while forcing 24 turnovers, so Princeton's poor three-point shooting didn't matter.
Elliah Townsend led Princeton with 19 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. C.J. Harrington narrowly missed a double-double as he added 8 points, 11 rebounds, 3 steals, and a career-high 4 blocks to the winning effort. Tim Robertson totaled 12 points, 4 rebounds, and 7 assists. Robertson's 7 assists is a new career-high for him, breaking his old career mark of 6 assists. Nikola Tolic was the only other player in double figures for Princeton as he ended with 10 points and 3 rebounds.
Rhet Carrington and Romain Stehly led the way for Yale as they scored 13 and 10 points respectively and each grabbed 9 boards.
The 19th-ranked Princeton Tigers will take on the Columbia Lions (12-15) next week.

Bright's 31 Points Lead Princeton Past Columbia
Princeton, NJ (AP) - Princeton's Romain Bright stole the spotlight tonight. The junior small forward lit up the scoreboard with shot-after-shot and ended with 31 points and 9 rebounds, just one rebound short of a double-double.
"Romain [Bright] has really been playing well this year," said Coach Frizzell. "He's not particularly dominating the scoreboard in most games, but he is our go-to guy in clutch situations and I think he's thriving in that role since Cassiand Swift declared this past off season."
#14 Princeton (24-4) inched closer to an Ivy League Title as it essentially knocked the Columbia Lions (12-16) out of contention for the conference title, relegating them to a 7-4 record. Princeton currently leads the conference race at 9-1 with Penn trailing close behind with a 9-2 record. Every other team has a 7-4 or worse conference record.
In addition to Bright's awesome performance, the Tigers also got two big contributors off their bench in Benjamin McBridle and Nikola Tolic. McBridle ended with 18 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists while Tolic added 10 points as he continues to heat up as the season draws to a close.
Columbia had four players get into double-figures today. Point guard Noah Stephenson led the way with 18 points, but was only 7-22 from the field. Still, he also grabbed 3 rebounds and dished out 6 assists. Fellow guard Moises Thibodeaux added 14 points and a trio of steals. Kelcy McFarland tallied 14 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists while Wahab Schneiderman added 14 points and 8 rebounds.
Princeton will take on the Brown Bears tomorrow, a game which should be a relatively easy win, especially with the way the Tigers have been playing lately.Comment

Princeton Moves to 10-1 in Conference Play
Providence, RI (AP) - The Princeton Tigers (25-4) cruised past the Brown Bears (6-19) today to move to 10-1 in Ivy League Conference play. All eyes now turn to next Saturday's Penn/Princeton showdown, which will likely decide the conference champion.
The Princeton Tigers never had a huge lead in this one, but it was a safe lead. Safe enough that Coach Frizzell pulled his starters in the second half with a 20 point lead, in fact.
"We played pretty well. We only won by 22 points over a 6-19 Brown team, but you can't always go by what shows up on the scoreboard," explained Coach Frizzell.
Romain Bright led the way for Princeton, scoring 18 points and grabbing 3 rebounds. Benjamin McBridle came off the bench to contribute 11 points. Wesley French added 8 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals while Elliah Townsend ended with 9 points and 8 rebounds.
Gilbert Augustine led the way for the Brown Bear with 13 points on 4-12 shooting.

Princeton Blows Past Dartmouth to Clinch the Ivy League Title
Princeton, NJ (AP) - The Princeton Tigers (26-4) absolutely destroyed the Dartmouth Mean Green today, securing the Tigers the Ivy League Conference Title after Penn's 85-60 loss at Cornell earlier today.
"It's really great to win another title," stated Coach Frizzell. "We didn't go undefeated in conference play this year, but this title is all the sweeter since it was tougher to win than in previous years."
The Tigers got off to a quick start and led by 14 at halftime. However, they really got it in gear early in the second half, pushing the lead to more than 30 rather quickly and ending up with a crushing 47 point victory.
"We played about as well as we could have," said Coach Frizzell. "I expected to win and win rather handily, but I'm not sure if I expected to win quite this handily."
The Tigers were led by Wesley French's 18 points and 4 assists. Elliah Townsend totaled 17 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 steals while Romain Bright ended with 11 points and 5 rebounds. Benjamin McBridle came off the bench to add 13 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and 5 steals while Jarrad Lemons ended with a season-high 12 points and 3 assists.
It was a two-man show for Dartmouth tonight as only two players topped the five point barrier. Center Ty Mendoza led the way with a double-double, tallying 14 points and 10 rebounds. Forward Edgar Slakam ended with 11 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists, but it took him a rather unimpressive 3-14 shooting to get there.
The Tigers will take on the Penn Quakers (20-8) tomorrow on Senior Night. The Tigers will take on Cornell (14-13) next Tuesday in their final regular season game before tournament play fires up.Comment

Tigers Get Revenge on Senior Day
Princeton, NJ (AP) - The Seniors on this year's edition of the Princeton Tigers won their final home game of their careers in blowout fashion as the 13th-ranked Princeton Tigers absolutely destroyed Penn (20-9).
This is the same Penn team that upset the Tigers just last month.
This game was never even close, as Princeton held a 55-29 halftime lead and just cruised thereafter to an easy 93-57 victory.
The Tigers were led by Elliah Townsend's 15 points and 6 rebounds.
Several Princeton Tigers played their last home game today. C.J. Harrington finished his final home game with 8 points and 3 rebounds. Denis Graham tallied 9 points, 6 rebounds, 3 steals, and 3 blocks. Benjamin McBridle put on the best performance of the Princeton seniors with 12 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 steals while Tremmell Christensen didn't exactly have his finest Senior Day, as he went scoreless.
Two other Princeton Tigers likely played their final games, as well. Wesley French, Princeton's junior point guard, is currently projected as the #1 pick in the 2016 NBA Draft and is likely to declare after the season ends. He ended with 11 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals. Junior small forward Romain Bright is projected to be a first round pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, so he might declare after the season, as well. Bright had a fine game today and ended with 15 points and 6 rebounds.
"It was really nice to get revenge on the only team we lost to in conference play this year and it was even nicer to send the seniors off this season," stated Coach Frizzell.

Tigers Finish Up the Season With a Win
Ithica, NY (AP) - The 9th-ranked Princeton Tigers (28-4) finished up their season with another win this evening as they easily dispatched the Cornell Big Red (14-15).
The final score only indicated a margin of victory of seven points, but, in reality, this game wasn't very close.
"We led throughout the game, but our backups let the Big Red come close there at the end, but this game was still never in doubt," explained Coach Frizzell.
Princeton was led by Elliah Townsend's 20 points and 6 rebounds. Romain Bright tallied 15 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals while Benjamin McBridle came off the bench to add 13 points, 3 rebounds, and 4 assists. Tim Robertson also scored 9 points.
Cornell was led by Bill Whitney, who ended with 22 points and 7 rebounds. Stanley Emmett and Drake Lisinic also had decent games as they scored 14 and 10 points respectively.
Princeton has already locked up the Ivy League's automatic bid, so the Tigers will now sit back and wait for their seeding on Selection Sunday.

Re: Coaching Legacy of James Frizzell (CH 2K8)
Amazing coaching legacy you got going on bro. You've built Princeton into a mid major power. I'm following to see how long you'll stay in NJ before moving on to Morgantown.
Best of luck in the 2016 NCAA Tourney. Sucks that your potential 2nd round match up will be against familiar foe (Gonzaga or Valpo). CH has a tendancy to do that on occassion....S.O.S. Crew
