#5 West Virginia (20-6) vs. Georgetown (8-19)
Verizon Center
Washington, D.C.
February 17th, 2031
Georgetown (8-19, 4-9) came into tonight having won two consecutive games after starting the season 6-18, but you wouldn't have known it tonight as they got ran out of their own building as No. 5 West Virginia (20-6, 9-4) laid down a beatdown with the Mountaineers winning going away, 93-60.
West Virginia held a decisive 47-28 advantage at halftime, but the Mountaineers 18-2 run to open the second period all but put the game away.
The Mountaineers were ferocious defensively as they force 20 Georgetown turnovers and blocked seven of Georgetown's 57 shot attempts. Willie Gomes led the way in blocks with four.
With a big lead, WVU head coach James Frizzell cleared the benches during the latter portion of the game, which allowed reserves to rack up some valuable playing time. Junior guard Matt Blanchard took advantage of his opportunity as he scored a career-high-tying 11 points in nine minutes of playing time. Freshman guard Dedrick Packevicius also notched a new career-high with five points.
Fred Joiner scored 15 points and dished out six assists for West Virginia. Myron DeLeon tallied 15 points and four rebounds and Theron Dux added 12 points and four assists. O.J. Palmer had a nice, balanced game as he totaled a double-double with 12 points, 13 rebounds, and a pair of blocks.
Senior Nate McCroskey had a nice game for Georgetown as he scored 19 points and grabbed six rebounds. C.C. Warsaw was the only other Hoya to hit double-figures in scoring as he totaled 10 points and five rebounds in just 11 minutes of time off the bench.
West Virginia head coach James Frizzell picked up his 20th win for the 23rd consecutive season. The only time the 49-year old head coach has coached a team which failed to hit the 20-win mark was in his first season at Princeton, where he guided the Tigers to an 18-12 record, including 11-3 in Ivy League Conference play and a second-place conference finish behind Columbia.
Next up for West Virginia is a game at Marquette this Saturday.

#5 West Virginia (20-7) vs. Marquette (14-12)
BMO Harris Bradley Center
Milwaukee, WI
February 22nd, 2031
After two consecutive convincing wins, No. 5 West Virginia (20-7, 9-5) seemed to be back on track, but that all changed tonight as Marquette rode a spectacular shooting performance to down the Mountaineers in Milwaukee, 90-81.
Marquette hit nine of their first 11 three-point attempts, and finished 12/18 (67%) from beyond the arc. The Golden Eagles also shot 53% (35/66) from the field overall.
Marquette led 46-42 at the halftime break, but the Golden Eagles hit a string of shots to open up the second half to open up a 13-point lead, and led by as many as 16 points in the second half en route to their nine-point victory.
Sophomore guard Janko Adler led Marquette with a career-best 25 points and seven assists as he took over the game at times with his offensive prowess. Fellow sophomore Allen Socwell added 18 points and five rebounds while Acie Nava and Nicholas Riddick came off the bench to contribute 16 and 11 points, respectively. 7'1" sophomore center Phillip Drake also had an excellent game as he totaled a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds.
O.J. Palmer tallied 17 points, six rebounds, and three blocks for West Virginia. Willie Gomes added 11 points and seven rebounds while Fred Joiner paced the offense with 17 points and four assists.
"We certainly didn't play our best on either side of the ball, but it's tough to win when your opponent hits shots like that," explained West Virginia head coach James Frizzell in the postgame press conference. "We certainly struggled in certain aspects, but you have to give Marquette credit; they played a masterful game and hit all the shots they needed to do to win. It's frustrating for us, but all we can do is head back home and try again next time."
Next, West Virginia will face a dangerous Syracuse team next Wednesday at the WVU Coliseum in Morgantown.

vs.
Syracuse (18-9) vs. #5 West Virginia (21-7)
WVU Coliseum
Morgantown, WV
February 26th, 2031
Monwell Weaver hit the biggest shot of his life as the reserve freshman guard nailed a three-pointer with 1.6 seconds left to lift No. 5 West Virginia (21-7, 10-5) to a 76-73 victory over Syracuse (18-9, 7-8).
The Mountaineers led by as many as 14 points in the first half, and led 38-28 at halftime, but a late collapse let the Orange make a game of it. Senior Syracuse guard Brandyn Rothseiden hit a three-pointer with under 30 seconds remaining to tie the game up at 73 apiece. West Virginia head coach James Frizzell inserted Weaver into the lineup in place of the struggling Predrag Gabler (who shot just 2/10) for the Mountaineers' final possession, and Weaver rewarded Frizzell's faith with the go-ahead three.
"This is great for him, and it's great to see a young player be able to contribute like that," beamed Frizzell after the game. "Weaver is a tremendous shooter and has a quick release, and he was really perfect in that situation. He deserves a lot of praise for hitting a shot with the pressure on like that, especially given his role."
Weaver got the opportunity off a post-up for O.J. Palmer, who got double-teamed, opening up Weaver for the open three from the wing.
Palmer scored 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead all players in both categories. Fellow big man Willie Gomes totaled 10 points, five rebounds, and three blocks and Myron DeLeon added 13 points. Fred Joiner also had a good all-around game, totaling 11 points, six rebounds, and six assists.
Brandyn Rothseiden led Syracuse with 15 points and five rebounds and Andrius Emmett added 10 points. Wil Lawson led Syracuse in rebounding with 14 points and eight boards.
Next up for West Virginia is a home game against St. John's on Sunday. The Mountaineers only have two remaining regular season games after their game on Sunday, and both games will be against sub-.500 squads (Providence and South Florida).

St. John's (13-14) vs. #5 West Virginia (22-7)
WVU Coliseum
Morgantown, WV
March 2nd, 2031
No. 5 West Virginia (22-7, 11-5) led wire-to-wire this afternoon as they handed the St. John's Red Storm their ninth consecutive loss with a 82-68 Mountaineers victory. St. John's (13-14, 6-10) kept it close early, and only trailed 35-32 at halftime, but the Mountaineers extended their lead in the second half. These two teams met earlier this season at St. John's, where West Virginia won in a 93-59 blowout.
All five WVU starters scored in double figures. Myron DeLeon all Mountaineers in scoring with 20 points and five rebounds. Predrag Gabler hit five three-pointers and totaled 15 points and seven rebounds while Fred Joiner only shot 3/11 from the field, but still managed 13 points and six assists. O.J. Palmer overcome a slow start with a double-double, totaling 15 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists. Fellow big man Willie Gomes tallied 10 points and five boards.
Demon Bishop and B.J. Lamptey did all they could to help St. John's as they scored 23 and 21 points, respectively, but they got no help from their teammates as no other Red Storm player scored more than six points and the rest of the team combined for a paltry 10/28 from the floor.
West Virginia will close out the 2030-2031 regular season against Providence and South Florida next week.

Solid win against a struggling St Johns team sir. I'm hoping you can finish the regular season off strong with wins!Comment

Re: Coaching Legacy of James Frizzell (CH 2K8)
Of note, I am in serious jeopardy of not winning 30+ games this season, which would be the first time I have failed to reach that mark since the 2024-2025 season (in which I won 29 games, and 24 the year before). In fact, I have won at least 32 games in each subsequent season. Prior to the 2024-2025 season, I had never won 30 games at West Virginia.Comment

vs.
#5 West Virginia (24-7) vs. South Florida (14-16)
USF Sun Dome
Tampa, FL
January 9th, 2031
No. 5 West Virginia (24-7, 13-5) won its fourth consecutive game and clinched the Big East Conference regular season title for the sixth consecutive year with a 92-80 victory over the South Florida Bulls (14-16, 8-10) at the USF Sun Dome in Tampa, FL this afternoon.
The Bulls kept it close, and even led through a decent portion of the first half, but the Mountaineers went on a run late in the half to take a 48-39 lead at halftime. The Bulls continued to apply pressure throughout the second half, and the Mountaineers only won by 12 points in a game they were heavily favored.
"We didn't play our best, but we won and that's the important thing," beamed West Virginia head coach James Frizzell after the game. "It's an honor to win the Big East regular season title for the sixth consecutive year, and it's a testament to these players and this coaching staff that we've been able to do this year after year, even with all the flux in rosters and staff that is in the college game."
Senior point guard Fred Joiner led West Virginia with an impressive double-double as he totaled 25 points and 10 assists. Freshman Willie Gomes also notched a double-double with 20 points, 10 rebounds, and three blocks. MyRon DeLeon scored 11 points and grabbed six boards while Ethan Augustin came off the bench to add 10 points. O.J. Palmer played well with 10 points and seven rebounds in 20 minutes, but his playing time was limited due to foul trouble.
Delvon Fofana scored 24 points and dished out four assists to lead South Florida. Attarrius McClinton tallied 12 points, five rebounds, and nine assists and Winston Grant added 11 points. Earl Bridgewater also scored 12 points and grabbed four rebounds.
The Mountaineers finish the regular season 24-7 overall and 13-5 in Big East Conference play. They will be seeded #1 in the conference opponent and thus will have a first round bye in the Big East Tournament. The Mountaineers will face the winner of the Marquette/Pittsburgh first round game.
