No. 4 West Virginia (11-1) easily dispatched an overmatched Wright State squad this evening, 94-57. The Mountaineers got off to a quick start and led 55-24 at halftime, and coasted the rest of the way for the big victory.

The Raiders (5-6) were never competitive, as the Mountaineers looked to make a statement before beginning conference play next Thursday after ringing in the new year.

Fred Joiner led all scorers for West Virginia with 23 points. O.J. Palmer also had a great game as he poured in 18 points and 10 rebounds for another double-double. Willie Gomes added 10 points and four rebounds from off the bench while Predrag Gabler shot 5/6 from long distance and scored 19 points, besting his previous career-high mark of 18 points.

Junior guard Kenan Fullove led Wright State in scoring with 20 points while fellow guard Emanuel Ricci added 16 points.

West Virginia kicks off Big East Conference action next Thursday against rival Pittsburgh.

No. 3 West Virginia (12-1, 1-0) kicked off Big East Conference action this evening against rival Pittsburgh (6-6, 0-1) with a 78-68 victory in both teams' conference openers.

The Mountaineers led 40-31 at halftime, but the Panthers made an 8-0 run the first four minutes of the second half to cut the lead to 40-39 at the 16-minute mark in the second half. However, Theron Dux responded with a three-pointer to push the lead back to 43-39. Pittsburgh would again claw to within a point, as they hit a basket to cut the lead to 53-52 WVU, but Fred Joiner responded with a layup with 8:09 remaining and WVU would go on a 12-2 run over the next four minutes to essentially put the game away.

O.J. Palmer led all scorers for West Virginia with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Freshman small forward Matt DeLeon had a great outing with a career-high 17 points and four rebounds, and Fred Joiner tallied 13 points, seven rebounds, and five assists. January 4th, 2031

Tonight, West Virginia (13-1, 2-0) and Cincinnati (9-5, 1-1) played a close game in the first half as the Bearcats only tailed by two points at the halftime break, but the No. 3 team in the land showed why they were the defending national champions in the second half as West Virginia erupted on a startling 43-5 run in the first 13 minutes of the second half, going on to beat Cincinnati by 31 points while racking up triple digits on the scoreboard, as WVU beat the visiting Bearcats 100-69.

O.J. Palmer was a big reason why as he was a big presence on both ends of the court, tallying 21 points, 13 rebounds, and a career-high seven blocks. Theron Dux also had a fantastic game off the bench as he recorded his first career double-double with 16 points and a career-best 11 assists, while shooting a perfect 5/5 from the floor. Willie Gomes also racked up a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds while Monwell Weaver added 11 points and four rebounds. Ethan Augustin also recorded 10 points and four boards while Myron DeLeon added 13 points.

West Virginia shot a blistering 50% (36/72) from the floor and outrebounded Cincinnati 42-28. The Bearcats also played fairly well offensively, particularly in the closing minutes once the game was out of hand, but it was not enough as the West Virginia offense was clicking on all cylinders, especially in the second half when they put 64 points on the scoreboard.

Senior forward Evrin Nicholas led all scorers for Cincinnati with 20 points to go along with five rebounds. Fellow senior Felix Fells was the only other double-digit scorer for the Bearcats as he tallied 15 points and four rebounds.

Next up for West Virginia is a home date with DePaul on Tuesday, then a game at Duke next Thursday in the Mountaineers' final step out of conference until the NCAA Tournament.

                    January 7th, 2031

No. 2 West Virginia (14-1, 3-0) blasted towards their eighth consecutive win as they beat DePaul (9-6, 0-2) this evening 88-68. West Virginia led 44-19 after the first half, but the Blue Demons got hot offensively in the second half, scoring 49 points in the second frame alone.

DePaul got to within 15 points at one juncture in the second half, but the Mountaineers led comfortably throughout, despite their lackadaisical defense late in the game.

O.J. Palmer had another big game as he recorded his second straight 20/10 game with 26 points and 15 rebounds. Fellow big man Willie Gomes also notched a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds as DePaul struggled with West Virginia's size down low. Freshman small forward Myron DeLeon also added 11 points and four boards.

Despite being dominant down low, WVU had a very poor showing from distance as they shot a miserable 5/28 (18%) from three-point range against DePaul's 2-3 zone, which gave the Mountaineers plenty of opportunities from three which they simply couldn't convert into made three-point baskets.

Steven Grace and Francisco Laws scored 11 points apiece for DePaul while senior power forward Bennet Wellington notched 13 points and five rebounds.

West Virginia will travel to Cameron Indoor Stadium to face off against the Duke Blue Devils on Thursday night. Duke has uncharacteristically struggled this season as they only sport a 6-6 record, but they have a lot of raw talent on their roster and could be dangerous, especially at home.

It has definitely aged, but it's still fun after all these years! It is the only reason I even own a gaming console these days (I do the rest of my gaming on the PC).

Yes, indeed, guys. Aside from the Texas Tech disaster, we've been quite impressive!
