Yeah, for now at least. We'll see if we can keep that up going forward.

        vs.
Central Connecticut State (0-5) vs. #11 West Virginia (4-0)
        WVU Coliseum
        Morgantown, WV
        November 23rd, 2022

No. 11 West Virginia (4-0) had a bit of its sense of invincibility worn off this evening as the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils (0-5) took an early lead and led for much of the first half. WVU would come back and seize a 42-30 halftime advantage, however, over the winless Blue Devils. In the end, the Mountaineers would win 78-62, but it was far from the blowout that many were expecting and showcased some weaknesses in this year's WVU squad.

Osei Forney stepped up big in this one, recording 20 points, 16 rebounds, and three steals. His 16 rebounds is a new career-high for the junior center. Barry George also had a career day, as his 17-point performance is a new career-high for him. The sophomore point guard also dished out four assists and nabbed three steals. Allan Pena had a bad shooting day (3-14), but he still managed 10 points and four rebounds.

Central Connecticut State was led by shooting guard Logon Bigelow and point guard Scooter Challed. Bigelow led the Blue Devils in scoring as he tallied 14 points and vive rebounds. Challed had a career day as he would record 13 points and a career-high seven steals.

West Virginia will travel to Miami, FL to take on the Hurricanes on Sunday. Miami is struggling this year, having won only one of their four games thus far.

Nice work man, just read all the posts in this thread cause I was bored. You must be in your 13th season or something haha. Have you noticed any mid-major teams really rise up to the ranks? In mine, it seems like Dayton, St. Louis, San Francisco and New Mexico are always teams that are up there in the AP Poll, and they've put together some great seasions for 4 years now.

Also pretty cool your a met major, I am too. Though I go to a ****ty DIII school...

Thanks! This is my 16th season, actually!

Duquesne makes frequent appearances in the polls, I've noticed. New Mexico seems to, as well.

Yes, I am a met major for now, at least. I am contemplating changing majors, though. I am currently at the end of my sophomore year and, frankly, I am struggling at getting through Physics II. I already struggled enough in Chemistry I & II and my GPA isn't really what I wish it would be. I am through Calculus I, II, and III, but I haven't taken Differential Equations I yet, which should be a joy.

With the job market for meteorology majors being what it is (not very good), I am seriously contemplating switching over to an economics major (one of my other interests). Unfortunately, I am unsure if I can get into NC State's economics program as NC State's College of Management is pretty hard to get in to and I haven't taken any business courses in my time at NC State (just never had the opportunity). With my GPA being less-than-stellar, though I have applied, I don't think I will get into it.

And that leads me to the option of potentially transferring to another school (almost certainly UNC-Greensboro). Here, I would likely be able to major in economics and my GPA would be a clean slate, which would certainly be a plus.

It just kind of sucks, though, because I love weather and am actually pretty good on the application portion of things (I won the class forecast contest last year), but I struggle through the more physics-intensive portions of it, which are unfortunately becoming more prevalent as I move up through the ranks.

I have my thermodynamics final exam in six hours and then I will be done with my sophomore year of college, though! As such, I should be able to put forth some new updates soon. I should be playing CH 2K8 quite a bit this summer, though NCAA Football 13 will likely steal time away once it comes out in July. But that's quite a bit off.

Do you go to SUNY-Oswego or something?

I studied part of meteorology in my oceanography class in HS many, many moons ago. I loved trying to forecast the weather based on the maps (didn't have the radar systems that we do now).

I also know someone who moved from RI to Mississippi to be a weatherman. I don't know if he is still doing it, though.

I think that it was the man in your avatar that caused the rebound typo. BTW, I have seasons two & three of the series.

Oh, yeah, there's so much out there now that meteorology is really great for hobbyists these days, with models such as the GFS, NAM, etc. available free over the internet and all kinds of radar, pressure maps, etc. available, as well.

LOL, Shultz isn't the brightest fellow out there.

Last fall I managed to find a Youtube channel that had all six seasons of Hogan's Heroes uploaded. I managed to watch through all 200+ episodes in a couple months!

I will definitely have to try to get it on DVD, though, as watching it on TV is a little better than Youtube, for obvious reasons.

No. 11 West Virginia (5-0) stayed perfect this afternoon in their first road game of the season at Miami (1-4). The Hurricanes came in with only one win and, on paper, it appeared that the Mountaineers would crush them. However, in reality, it wasn't so.

Miami held a 40-35 halftime lead over the Mountaineers, and though they would end up losing 74-70 thanks to a strong second half by the WVU defense, Miami put up a very good effort. Nevertheless, though perhaps a moral win, the four-point loss keeps the Hurricanes spiraling out of control as they have now lost four of their first five games of the 2022-2023 season.

The Mountaineers were led by a strong performance by Osei Forney, who ended with 20 points and eight rebounds. Barry George also played well, tallying 14 points. George also hit some key free throws in the final minute that sealed the game for the Mountaineers.

The Hurricanes had a more balanced scoring effort with four of their starters reaching double-figures. Senior power forward Steerdy Howell's performance was the most impressive as he recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Ed McLaren just missed out on a double-double of his own as he ended with 10 points, eight rebounds, and three steals.

West Virginia now has four days off before their huge matchup against #5 Duke at Cameron Indoor Stadium on December 2nd.

The one regret I have in life is letting my grandmother's cancer cause me to go to school closer to home. I was accepted to the University of Oklahoma with the intention of going into the meteorology program. But I couldn't stand the thought of being that far from home. As if I could've changed what happened. Still like to follow the weather and I'm seriously thinking of taking the training to become a trained spotter...especially after the tornado outbreak we had here back in March.

As for the legacy...great win against Miami. Looked like your guys were caught looking ahead to the Dookies. But still, a win is a win.

If you're looking for some good weather forums out there for hobbyists and meteorologists alike, Talkweather and AmericanWx are good ones!

I just had my wisdom teeth extracted this morning, so I am going through a bit of pain tomorrow and have pretty much slept all day. Perhaps I can get in some more updates tomorrow.

                          December 2nd, 2022

This is not how it was supposed to go. The undefeated West Virginia Mountaineers (5-1) came into the game at 5-0 and No. 9 in the country while Duke (7-1) only had a single blemish in its resume against a pretty good Oregon State team. The Blue Devils were ranked No. 2 in the nation. WVU had handled a pretty good Virginia Tech team earlier in the year, as well.

However, rather than a hard-fought game at Cameron Indoor, we instead got a one-sided affair in which the Blue Devils outright trashed the visiting West Virginia Mountaineers. The Blue Devils led 29-17 at halftime and would wind up extending their lead in the second half en route to a crushing 74-51 victory.

Duke was led by senior forward Jarrett Fisher, who scored a team-high 14 points to go along with four steals. Collis Barlow also added 12 points, six rebounds, and three steals.

Meanwhile, WVU's offense never showed up. The Mountaineers shot just 25% from the floor and if it weren't for 19 free throws made, WVU likely wouldn't have cracked 40 points.

Part of the issue was Osei Forney's foul troubles. The seven-footer got into early foul trouble in the first few minutes and never really got to see much action. He would foul out in the second half after only eight minutes of game time. Even so, he played decently as he contributed eight points and four rebounds.

Barry George was the only Mountaineer to crack double-figures as he ended with 10 points, three rebounds, and three assists. Even so, he only shot two-for-12 from the floor and turned the basketball over four times, so it wasn't an especially productive day for the sophomore point guard.

WVU will have a chance to regroup for a little over a week before hosting Manhattan on December 10th.

                              December 10th, 2022

No. 14 West Virginia (5-2) dropped its second straight game as the Mountaineers were upset 75-67 by the Manhattan Jaspers (4-5) this evening.

The Jaspers led for the majority of the game as WVU never really showed any signs of life. WVU's biggest lead was four points early in the second half, but with few exceptions, Manhattan claimed the lead for the rest of the game en route to the eight-point victory.

Eddy Ross scored a game-high 16 points for the Jaspers. Jessie Frederick added 13 while Jaison Lamb just missed out on a double-double with 11 points and nine boards.

WVU shot only 36% from the floor and 23% from beyond the arc. Osei Forney tallied a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, but he only made five of his 16 shot attempts. Allan Pena was the only other Mountaineer to reach double-figures at 11 points, though he also had a poor shooting day.

"We need to right the ship," said Coach Frizzell about his team after the game. "We started off the season really well, but now we're in a bit of a downward spiral that we must correct.

"Next up for us is the Hawaiian Island Classic, so that will be a good opportunity for us to get things back on track, hopefully."

The Mountaineers will open up the Hawaiian Island Classic with a matchup against Ohio on December 15th in Honolulu.

Tough back to back losses, can't imagine West Virginia coming out lifeless against Manhattan unless it stemmed from the Duke loss (Duke sucks).

Seems like the whole team has been cold with the shooting touch lately.
