Thanks, guys! I actually just got settled into my new apartment in Tallahassee, FL (I start my job next Monday) and played my first game in awhile earlier this evening, so I will probably be resuming this soon. I have my 360 hooked up to a 55" TV again, which is nice, and beats the 23" one I was using before I moved. That should make me want to play some more.

The game I played was as fun as ever, so that was nice!

No, I changed majors after my sophomore year into economics (followed the money, LOL), and I graduated with my B.S. in May 2014, and just graduated with my M.A. in Applied Economics this month. I got a job at a consulting firm (surprisingly, there's several big consulting firms with offices in Tallahassee).

It's basically an applied economics/statistics/programming job, primarily utilizing SAS and SQL software.

          vs.
          #2 West Virginia (14-2) vs. Duke (8-6)
          Cameron Indoor Stadium
          Durham, NC
          January 9th, 2031

"We knew going in they had a lot of talent, they just hadn't played up to their potential," explained West Virginia head coach James Frizzell. He was solemnly speaking to the press after his squad got beaten 74-68 by a Duke squad that was only one game above .500 coming into this game.

The Blue Devils (8-6) had struggled since the beginning of the season. They have the raw talent on their roster, but they have had trouble putting it together as a unit. Until tonight.

Tonight, Duke led from start to finish against No. 2 West Virginia (14-2). The Blue Devils thrived in the home atmosphere at Cameron Indoor Stadium, and Clayton Krywonis willed his squad to a big victory as the junior guard poured in a career-best 29 points.

West Virginia tied the game up in the closing minutes, but the Blue Devils pulled back ahead and hit their free throws down the stretch to seal the game.

Sophomore point guard Dragutin Bush also had a fantastic game for Duke with 17 points, five rebounds, and seven assists. Junior small forward Maleye Schiffner rounded out the double-figure scorers with 12 points.

The Mountaineers and Duke have met up frequently over the years during Frizzell's tenure in Morgantown. West Virginia defeated Duke 88-61 in the 2028 NCAA Championship Game in San Antonio, TX. Tonight, Duke fans must feel like they got a bit of payback for that one, even if most of the contributing players from that Duke squad are long gone in post-college life, whether in the NBA or elsewhere.

Fred Joiner tallied 16 points, six rebounds, and seven assists for the Mountaineers this evening. Myron DeLeon added 13 points, five rebounds, and four steals, and Willie Gomes came off the bench to lead West Virginia in scoring with 18 points and seven rebounds. WVU senior center O.J. Palmer uncharacteristically struggled this evening as he only shot 2/11 from the floor and ended with just six points, eight rebounds, and four assists. His lack of contribution was a big reason West Virginia struggled shooting the basketball, as they shot just 37% from the floor over the course of the game.

"These are the games you always have to look out for," explained WVU's Frizzell. "[Duke] is a very talented team. All you have to look at is the recruiting classes they've brought in in recent years. They've just had a tough time putting it together this year, but they did so tonight, and we let our guard down a little. It happens, and we'll move on hoping to take something away from tonight as we build towards March."

West Virginia will have a chance to bounce back on Saturday, but they will have to do it against a very formidable Connecticut squad that is 12th-ranked in the country with a 13-2 record.

By the way, Duke had a 92 OVR rating, which makes them one of the best teams I'll play all year. My squad has a 95 OVR rating, but as the game was in Durham, the game was basically a toss-up on paper.

These games are always a bit annoying in this game where a team with a high OVR rating struggles, but they're just as hard to play as any other 92 OVR team whenever you play them in a game since I don't think there's anything like momentum from past games that carries over into actual gameplay, as far as I know, at least.

Thanks! Duke was annoyingly tough, especially at their place.

                  vs.
                  #2 West Virginia (15-2) vs. #12 Connecticut (13-3)

                  Storrs, CT
                  January 11th, 2031

No. 2 West Virginia (15-2, 4-0) bounced back with an exciting 83-81 come-from-behind victory this afternoon against No. 12 Connecticut (13-3, 2-2) in Storrs, CT. The Mountaineers trailed 43-32 at halftime, and by as many as 15 points early in the second half, but rallied back with 51 second-half points to remain undefeated in Big East Conference play.

West Virginia jumped ahead 80-71 in the closing minutes, but the Huskies came rallying back, and 7'1" center Monwell Duggins had a chance to tie the game at the buzzer after WVU's Fred Joiner split a pair of free throws, but Duggins' attempted clanked off the side of the rim, and West Virginia escaped with a thrilling victory on the road.

"This is a great bounce-back win for us," beamed WVU head coach James Frizzell. "We were really struggling for the first half of the game, but we really put it together late. I am a bit frustrated by how we closed out the game, and we nearly blew a nine-point lead because we struggled to hit free throws in the final minute, which was very disappointing. We'll definitely be working on hitting free throws in practice this week."

Both teams got to the free throw line early and often, as Connecticut went 25/30 (83%) from the charity stripe while West Virginia shot 25/36 (69%). There were a litany of foul calls throughout the game, which led to a number of players being in foul trouble, and West Virginia's Willie Gomes fouling out.

Myron DeLeon led WVU in scoring with 17 points and six rebounds. Fred Joiner added 16 points and four assists and O.J. Palmer bounced back from a disappointing performance against Duke with an average 13-point, eight-rebound performance this evening. Willie Gomes saw his time cut short due to fouling out in the second half, but he still managed 11 points and five rebounds in 21 minutes of game time. Ethan Augustin closed out the game for West Virginia with Gomes sidelined, and contributed well offensively with 10 points, but grabbed just two rebounds in 25 minutes of action.

6'4" senior guard Matthew Bowden led all scorers with 23 points and four assists for the Huskies. Junior point guard Shaun Norris just missed out on a double-double with 10 points and nine assists, but cost his team dearly with eight turnovers. Monwell Duggins recorded a double-double with 10 points, 12 rebounds, and four blocks, but shot just 3/12 from the floor.

Both teams were very careless with the basketball as they combined for 42 total turnovers, with the Huskies committing 24 while WVU gave the basketball away 18 times. Both teams were aggressive on both ends of the floor, which led to a lot of hectic back-and-forth play that resulted in a lot of gaffes and mistakes, and thus turnovers and fastbreak opportunities.

The road ahead looks a bit easier for West Virginia, though they will face rival Pittsburgh on the road next Wednesday in what should be a competitive affair. West Virginia defeated Pittsburgh 78-68 in their previous matchup on January 2nd in Morgantown, so Pittsburgh will be looking to even up the series against the hated Mountaineers.

Yeah, it was a struggle, but we pulled through. We are definitely in a tougher portion of the schedule now, and Pittsburgh might be tougher than expected next game considering it's a rivalry game on the road.

No. 2 West Virginia (16-2, 5-0) got all it could handle from rival Pittsburgh (8-7, 2-2), but in the end the Mountaineers had enough to overcome a second half deficit and defeated the Pitt Panthers 78-75.

The Mountaineers missed a couple key free throws late, which gave the Panthers a fighting chance in the waning seconds, but WVU made a key defensive stop in the final 20 seconds to stave off Pitt in their home arena.

Fred Joiner led the way for West Virginia in scoring with 16 points, six assists, and a career-best seven steals, though the normally reliable free throw shooter only shot 5/9 from the charity stripe and missed some key free throws late. O.J. Palmer battled foul troubled and fouled out late in the second half, and was thus limited to just 23 minutes, recording 14 points, four rebounds, and four blocks. However, Willie Gomes made up for it with a powerful 14-point, 10-rebound, three-block performance of his own. Ethan Augustin also played well with 10 points, four rebounds, and three blocks.

The Mountaineers were ferocious defensively tonight around the rim as they recorded a season-best 13 blocks collectively.

Junior shooting guard Bud Hudson scored a game-high 20 points for Pitt, while Jerald Hull added 18 points and Tay Bookout scored 11.

Next up for West Virginia is Villanova on Saturday. The Wildcats have been strong in conference play, as they sport a 4-1 Big East Conference record and a 10-4 record overall.

No. 2 West Virginia (16-3, 5-1) sustained its first conference loss of the season as the streaking Villanova Wildcats (11-4, 5-1) won their seventh game in their last eight outings (their sole loss an overtime loss at Notre Dame earlier this week) with a dominating 85-69 performance, handing the Mountaineers just their third loss of the year, and their first defeat at home.

The Wildcats led 39-27 at halftime and maintained their edge in the second half, despite a frantic pace of play, with the two teams combining for 88 second half points.

The Wildcats got to the free throw line early and often, and this proved to be a decisive edge. Villanova attempted a season-high 43 free throw attempts and made 35 of them, an 81% clip. WVU wasn't too shabby at getting to the charity stripe, either, as they shot 20 from the line, but it is difficult to win when the opponent doubles you up on free throw attempts.

The disparity in free throw attempts and the Mountaineers' utter lack of competence at shooting the basketball proved to be too much for the No. 2-ranked Mountaineers to overcome. WVU shot just 29% (22/77) from the field, a season low, and shot just 8/33 (24%) from beyond the arc.

Myron DeLeon was the only Mountaineer to shoot well as he hit five three-point attempts and the freshman forward racked up season-highs in points and rebounding with 22 points and seven boards. He did all he could to keep the Mountaineers in the game, but a one-man show was not enough to keep up with the Wildcats' high-powered offensive attack. Fred Joiner added 13 points for the Mountaineers and Willie Gomes came off the bench to scored 12 points and grab 11 boards, but he only shot 3/11 from the floor.

The Wildcats were led by the strength of their frontcourt. Center Frederic Montgomery and power forward Dedrick Mikulas each tallied 14 points and 10 rebounds for Villanova and small forward Predrag Osborne added 14 points and four assists. The Villanova frontcourt also held WVU's O.J. Palmer to just 1/10 shooting as the 7'0" senior had a miserable outing.

"We made a lot of mistakes out there," explained West Virginia head coach James Frizzell. "We were out of control on the defensive end and committed a shocking amount of fouls. We were out of control offensively, as well, shooting way too many shots early in the shot clock. We were playing like we were way behind and were trying to make up the deficit with one shot, but you can't play like that, and it cost us.

"We've got a week off before our next game, so we'll have some time to get things in order before we have to take the court again, and we'll need it to straighten out our play."

Next up for West Virginia is Rutgers a week from today. The Mountaineers will face off against the Scarlet Knights on the road in Piscataway, NJ.
