      NCAA Tournament 1st Round Preview

      Point Guards
      Wis: Trevon Hughes (SR, 6'1", 85 ovr) - 19.1 PPG, 3.8 APG, 3.5 RPG
      UNF: Junior Rivera (SO, 6'4, 70 ovr) - 9.6 PPG, 8.9 APG, 2.3 RPG, 1.5 SPG

Advantage: Even - Hughes is a fantastic scorer for a point guard, but you can't discount the fact that Rivera lead the nation in assists this year. Rivera will need to use his size to try and prevent Hughes from heating up.

      Shooting Guards
      Wis: Jason Bohannon (SR, 6'2", 82 ovr) - 8.5 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 3.5 apg
      UNF: Brent Wood (JR, 6'5, 61 ovr) - 28.3 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 1.8 apg, 43% 3pt

Advantage: UNF - Wood leads the nation in scoring by a large margin, and with the size advantage this game should be no exception for him. The Ospreys need him to come out on fire to get an early lead.

      Small Forwards
      Wis: Jon Leuer (JR, 6'10", 77 ovr) - 4.4 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 1.3 apg
      UNF: Emanuel Dancy (FR, 6'5", 70 ovr) - 8.8 PPG, 4.1 RPG, 2.3 APG

Advantage: Wis - Based on production you have to give this to Dancy, but the size of Leuer is going to prevent him from getting open looks. This one could actually be a toss up, but the inconsistency of Dancy gives it to the Badgers.

      Power Forwards
      Wis: Keaton Nankivil (JR, 6'10", 76 ovr) - 6.6 ppg, 5.2 rpg
      UNF: Cliff Slattery (FR, 6'8", 67 ovr) - 6.0 PPG, 6.5 RPG

Advantage: Wis - Experience hands this to Wisconsin. Both of these players will probably be non-factors offensively. They both need to stay out of foul trouble however, as neither team has depth at the position.

      Centers
      Wis: C.J. Detrick (SO, 7'3", 86 ovr) - 14.0 PPG, 6.2 RPG, 1.6 BPG
      UNF: Emerson Riley (SO, 7'3", 69 ovr) - 18.0 PPG, 9.3 RPG, 1.6 BPG

Advantage: Even - This is quite possibly the most intriguing match up in the entire tournament. It's not very often that you have two VERY talented 7'3" guys going at each other. Whoever wins this battle could determine who wins the game.

      Bench
Advantage: Neither - Both teams lack a lot of talent off the bench. Wisconsin has a couple players who can light it up from long range, but UNF has players that can defend really well.

      X-Factor
      Wis: Bohannon
      UNF: Wood and Riley

Bohannon is one of those guys that are lost behind the stars of Wisconsin. He is also a guy that similar to Brent Wood can light it up from downtown. If he can get going and negate some of the points Wood scores, it will help seal the deal for the Badgers.

Last year the Ospreys had Hammonds as well. This year, it's all up to Wood. He has to have a huge game or it's unlikely his team will have a chance. Riley also has to shut down Detrick while being productive himself offensively.

      Summary:
--This game has one of the biggest match ups in recent memory, literally. That could be a lot of fun to watch. Wisconsin was the top seed in the Big 10 tournament, only to be upset in the first round. They wound up with an 8 seed, instead of a 4 or 5 seed because of it. They finished the year at #15 in the coaches poll.

People who don't know about North Florida will pick Wisconsin without thinking twice. People who do know that they come into this game with a 13 game win streak, and they are battle tested. They played at UConn (4 seed) and at Memphis (8 seed) and came within 10 points of both games. They also went to Gainsville and beat #1 Florida, who they could meet up with again if they can get past Wisconsin.

North Florida Backcourt Lights Badgers Up
        ”Wisconsin shocked as Ospreys dominate."
        March 19, 2010

        Scoreboard
        (9) North Florida (24-7, 13-3) «
        42
        48
        90
        (8) Wisconsin (21-12, 12-6)
        25
        40
        65

Wisconsin is a team that underachieved all year. They couldn't win a big game in non-conference play, and they couldn't win a big game today. Their game plan failed horrible. They wanted to slow the game down, because they prefer to play in the 60-70 point range. That certainly didn't happen at least not for the Ospreys.

North Florida came out hot, and when Brent Wood hit two 3 pointers early on, we all knew this could be trouble for Wisconsin. Wood would go on to lead all scorers with 15 at the half, and wound up shooting a perfect 6 for 6 from long range in his 31 point effort. Emanuel Dancy surprised everyone by scoring 18 points, which tied his career high. Add 16 points for Junior Rivera, and those three players alone matched Wisconsin's 65.

The Ospreys as a team shot right at 57%, compared to Wisconsin who put up 38%. North Florida hit 9 of 12 three balls, Wisconsin made 5 of 18. In short, the Ospreys dominated every part of this game.

This game sets up a rematch between the Ospreys and the Florida Gators. North Florida shocked the country by upsetting at the time #1 Florida in Gainsville. The Gators want to get revenge, while the Ospreys want to get respect. It should be a good one this Sunday.

And Wood went 6-6 from downtown. Very nice.

Pounded is a proper term for what happened, I'll have to use that in the future.

                        NCAA Tournament 2nd Round Preview

                        Point Guards
                        UF: Jai Lucas (JR, 5'11", 84 ovr) - 9.0 ppg, 5.3 apg, 1.8 rpg
                        UNF: Junior Rivera (SO, 6'4, 70 ovr) - 9.8 PPG, 8.9 APG, 2.3 RPG, 1.5 SPG

Advantage: Even - Both point guards put up similar numbers the last time the two teams met. Rivera is probably still the better passer, but Lucas' speed and 3 point shooting ability can lead to problems for opposing teams.

                        Shooting Guards
                        UF: Nick Calathes (JR, 6'6", 88 ovr) - 13.0 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 6.2 apg
                        UNF: Brent Wood (JR, 6'5, 61 ovr) - 28.4 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 1.8 apg, 43% 3pt

Advantage: UNF - Wood and Calathes duked it out in the last match-up, but Wood still managed to score 21 points on a bad shooting day. No way can you pick against him, especially after lighting Wisconsin up for 31.

                        Small Forwards
                        UF: Walter Holman (SO, 6'6", 85 ovr) - 8.8 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 1.2 apg
                        UNF: Emanuel Dancy (FR, 6'5", 70 ovr) - 9.1 PPG, 4.1 RPG, 2.3 APG

Advantage: Even - We picked against Dancy last week, and he shut us up by scoring a career high 18 points. Holman was the #6 recruit in the country in 08, and can get hot. These two should cancel each other out in the end.

                        Power Forwards
                        UF: Kenny Odia (SO, 6'7", 87 ovr) - 11.1 ppg, 4.7 rpg
                        UNF: Cliff Slattery (FR, 6'8", 67 ovr) - 6.0 PPG, 6.5 RPG

Advantage: UF - Odia was part of the incredible class UF brought in the 2008 recruiting class. He was #1 in the nation, but still hasn't had the breakout year they expected. Florida needs him to have a good game, because North Florida is going to run up the score.

                        Centers
                        UF: Marreese Speights (SR, 6'11", 88 ovr) - 20 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 1.8 bpg
                        UNF: Emerson Riley (SO, 7'3", 69 ovr) - 17.5 PPG, 9.1 RPG, 1.6 BPG

Advantage: Even - Another very intriguing match-up down low. Speights is the best scoring center in the country, but he only scored 3 points compared to Riley's 17 the last time they played. Riley had a bad first game of the tournament, while Speights scored 36 points. This battle could determine the winner.

                        Bench
Advantage: Florida - The Gators have 4 good, experienced players who can come off the bench and contribute. 3 of them scored 10+ points against Wagner in the first round.

                        X-Factor
                        UF: 3-point shooting
                        UNF: Wood and Riley

As a team Florida shot 4-12 from long range in the last meeting, while Brent Wood nailed 5-13 himself for UNF. If the Gators can hit 3's to cancel out the points that Wood will score, it will increase their chances of winning.

Once again Wood and Riley need to continue doing what they have done all year for the Ospreys to win. Riley will need to do much better that against Wisconsin and stay out of foul trouble, because Florida is much more talented and capable of scoring than the Badgers.

                        Summary:
--The Gators look to get revenge from the unthinkable loss earlier in the season. You can be sure that both coaches will have their teams fired up, and ready to score 150 points if they have to to win the game.

*If anyone was wondering, Florida's overall is 94...compared to my 75 lol.

Both teams struggled in the first couple of minutes, but after a couple of steals the Ospreys managed to push the lead to 10-4. Florida went on a small run of their own, and capped it off by handing Emerson Riley his 2nd foul just 5 minutes into the game. Just two minutes later Dancy picked up his 2nd foul, and Florida took the lead once again 14-13.

Uche Njila threw one down at the midway point in the first half to give the Ospreys a 20-19 lead. Foul trouble continued to plague North Florida, however, when Junior Rivera picked up his 2nd foul with 8:00 to go in the half. Coach Matthews was force to put Riley and Dancy back in to give the bench players a rest, and Riley made an immediate impact by blocking two shots and giving North Florida the lead back. Parsons hit a shot for the Gators with 6.7 seconds remaining to give Florida a 40-39 lead at the half.

Foul trouble hurt North Florida in the 2nd half, when Emerson Riley picked up his 3rd and 4th fouls just a couple minutes in. The Gators managed to take the lead and push it to 4. Just minutes after that back-up Ka'Ron Ellerbee picked up his 4th. He would foul out before Matthews could get someone in to replace him, leaving the Ospreys shorthanded and undersized.

With 6:18 remaining, the Gators still held a 74-68 lead. Emerson Riley made an impact in the 3 minutes he played before fouling out with 5:15 remaining, helping cut the lead to 2. Right after he left the court it was right back up to 6.

A Dancy 3 made it a 2 point game with 3:16 remaining, but Holman answered with a long jumper to make it 85-81 with 3:00 to go. A nice backdoor cut by Wood forced the Gators to call a timeout with 2:31 left, the score 85-83 in their favor. Lucas nailed a jumper off the backboard out of the timeout, but Wood once again answered quickly with a lay up. Another Florida timeout with 2:01 remaining, score 87-85 Gators.

Speights missed a close shot, Ospreys with a chance to tie but they turn it over. Speights with 2 shots and 1:33 remaining. He made them both, 89-85. Cecil takes a dumb shot with Wood wide open, leading to an alleyoop to Calathes on the other end. The Ospreys call a timeout with 1:06 remaining, down 91-85. Njila misses a 3, but Ospreys get a steal...and Rivera misses a layup.

Florida went on to seal the deal with ease, advancing to the sweet 16 for the second straight year. Coach Matthews and the North Florida faithful were VERY upset with how the game was called.

Those refs better hope my fans get to them first, or they are going to be in TROUBLE!”

Crappy way to lose. I don't mind losing if I just play poorly but it really sucks when the ref's take the game out of your control..

Looking forward to the end of the season recap.

Tough, but expected, loss. At least you got to the second round.
