Thunderbirds fly by Jacks!
(AP) – The Jacks shot just 21-78 from the field, the Thunderbirds shot 35-70, that Jacks lost in their ugliest game of the year. Maybe it was coming of an overtime thriller a couple of days ago that caused the problem, maybe it was that the team was overlooking the Thunderbirds who had won just 2 games all year. Needless to say it is back to the drawing board for the team before they take on the Rival North Dakota State squad next week.
Coaches Corner: There really isn’t much to say, we were stuck at their tempo all game long, they pressed us on both ends while we sat there like a bunch of deer in headlights…We pride ourselves on our defensive pressure and forcing turnovers, we forced 11 total turnovers with only 5 steals, while they had 11 steals and forced 17 turnovers, that is what gave them the momentum. Besides the fact we couldn’t hit water if we fell out of a boat all game from anywhere, we missed easy layups, wide open jumpers, we even botched a fastbreak dunk. Words can’t describe the anger I had, couldn’t even go off on the team, they were taking good shots, just nothing was falling.
Next up for the Jacks: @ North Dakota State (4-12): The Jacks look to get back above .500 against rival North Dakota State.

Re: CH2k8-- The coaching Legacy of Dan Baker
Ya, I am really unsure as to why everyone seems to play their best ball against me... But the other games I have played that I haven't posted.... They all play me tough and refuse to miss any shot late in the game to allow me to close the gap. It gets tricky if I struggle with the 3 ball.
Let's hope it gets better before tournament time...Comment

Re: CH2k8-- The coaching Legacy of Dan Baker
Jacks just can’t rally past Rival Bison
(AP) – Today the Jacks lost their first game against their hated rival the North Dakota State Bison, to make the loss even worse it makes the team (9-10) and under .500 again just when things were looking up. Despite a huge game from starting Point Guard Jari Zuzak who had 22 points the Jacks just could not pull off the last second win.
Coaches Corner: We honestly almost had that one, Jari went off in the second half, we started fouling with about 2 minutes left to keep it close and somehow Jari kept hitting the shots to bring us closer. The biggest reason we lost, they didn’t miss a single free throw in crunch time. We had their lead to 2 with 8 seconds left and needed them to miss one for a last chance shot and they didn’t miss. It’s back to the drawing board before we play the Mastodons again.
Next up for the Jacks: @ 10-8 IPFW, The Jacks won the last meeting at home 102-94 in game that featured 3 starters who scored over 15 points each.

Jacks best Mastodons! Sweep Season Series!
(AP) – Today the Jacks beat IPFW for the second time this season, the Jacks came out hot shooting with Vandrell Smith knocking down three straight 3 point shots. The Mastodons hung tough and held a two point lead at the half and even extended that lead to a solid seven points. The Jacks rallied behind a three point play the hard way by Jari Zuzak who after making the free throw stole the in bounds pass for another easy bucket. From there the Jacks never looked back.
Coaches Corner: Honestly that was ugly basketball by us all night, we got lucky when Jari was able to force some bad passes on the inbounds. If he hadn’t done that I don’t think we could have won the game. Now we have to figure out what is going on, If I have to change the rotation up to keep our best players on the court longer then I will.
Next up for the Jacks: @ 9-9 Oakland, The Jacks lost the last meeting 99-98 to the Grizzlies. They are looking to give some payback and get back over .500.

January Wrap Show
Welcome back College Hoops fans!
Erin Andrews (EA): Welcome back everyone, we have had some good basketball this first month of conference play. Here is a quick look at the top 25.
NCAA Hoops Rankings - AP Top 25 - Updated: Feb 1, 2008 RK LW TEAM (VOTES) RECORD 1 2 Kansas 18-2 2 1 North Carolina 17-4 3 3 Tennessee 17-3 4 6 Clemson 16-2 5 5 UCLA 17-3 6 4 Marquette 17-2 7 7 Michigan State 16-4 8 17 Stanford 15-5 9 11 Rhode Island 21-2 10 13 Georgia Tech 14-5 11 15 Memphis 16-4 12 20 Kentucky 16-5 13 8 Ohio State 16-5 14 18 Vanderbilt 18-4 15 12 Arkansas 16-5 16 10 Georgia 13-4 17 9 Louisville 16-5 18 19 Virginia 15-5 19 21 Georgetown 14-5 20 22 Western Kentucky 16-3 21 14 Oregon 14-6 22 16 Texas A&M 14-4 23 -- Colorado 16-4 24 23 California 14-5 25 -- Alabama 15-7
EA: Dick what stands out to you about this group?
Dick Vitale (DV): WELL ERIN! WE HAVE SIX, THAT’S RIGHT, SIX TEAMS FROM THE SEC IN THE TOP 25 THIS WEEK! BUT THE MOST SURPRISING THING ABOUT THESE POLLS IS STANFORD! THEY ARE RANKED EIGTH AND HAVE ONLY TWO WINS AGAINST TOP TWENTY FIVE TEAMS!
EA: Yes, that is pretty surprising Dick. Who surprises me is number nine Rhode Island, they have not played a single top twenty five team yet and lost to Florida Atlantic and Georgia Southern already this year. Or how about Western Kentucky a mid major school making an appearance at number twenty.
DV: SHOCKING BABY! HAVEN’T BEATEN A SINGLE RANKED OPPONENT AND GOT BLOWN OUT BY TENNESSEE IN THE ONLY RANKED GAME THEY HAVE PLAYED!
EA: How about my South Dakota State Jackrabbits?
DV: THEY MIGHT BE GETTING THEIR SEA LEGS ERIN! YOU SHOULD GET YOUR MAN OUT HERE NEXT MONTH FOR AN INTERVIEW!
EA: Again, not my man, can’t stress that enough. But I will get a hold of him and see if he can make it onto the show next month with his busy schedule and all.
Until next time sports fans!
Editors Note: Due to computer failure (It froze) I lost the top 25 Mid Major schools. Was trying to have this all laid out nicely. Also starting now (being the month of February) I will update the Conference Standings as we near the end of the season each week of the season.Comment

Grizz eat Jacks!
(AP) – The Jacks were unable to make a comeback against the Grizzlies this time and dropped the game 83-69, and fall to 9-12 on the season. The Jacks had 11 players score at least one point but the leading scorer, Vandrell Smith scored 18, while Grizz 6th Man Russ Kragel scored 23.
Coaches Corner: Kragel killed us, he came in and spotted up wherever he wanted and made almost every shot. To come off the bench and hit 8-13 and all 5 free throws is really something. We are going to need to make some adjustments before the end of the year to have a shot at the NCAA Tournament.
Next Game: vs 12-7 IUPUI Jaguars whom the Jacks beat 108-103 earlier in the year.

Re: CH2k8-- The coaching Legacy of Dan Baker
Jacks with another signature comeback win!
(AP) – The Jacks have done it again! They have pulled off yet another unprobable comeback victory against the #1 team in the conference the IUPUI Jaguars. Down nearly 20 points at the half the Jacks fought back to out score their opponents 51-28 in the second half. Behind the legs of Vandrell Smith with 20 points and Louis Sheppard with 11 points. No other Jack player was over 10 points.
Coaches Corner: Honestly, if you look at the box score you have no idea how we pulled this one off. We contained the #1 scorer in the conference Taliek Werner to a lowly 4 points. While Vandrell who was #2 in the conference went off for 20. We got out rebounded, we got out shot, though we did force more turnovers. I think it comes down to we hit the clutch shot at the end. Zuzak took a wide open three with us down by two and it went in.

Re: CH2k8-- The coaching Legacy of Dan Baker
Leathernecks even Season Series!
(AP) – The Western Illinois Leathernecks sent the Jacks back to reality and ran the table all game long. They came out in a full court press and a run and gun offense and no one was able to stop the other. It turned into a shootout with both teams having warm up jump shots wide open.
Coaches Corner: We just couldn’t catch back up, we had a couple huge runs, but we couldn’t make our clutch free throws if we make all of them that makes this game a lot closer, not to mention the 12 turnovers. We have 5 games left before conference play and I would love to end the year over .500 but that means we have to win at least 4 of the 5.
Next Game: @ 6-15 Southern Utah Thunderbirds who stunned the Jacks 94-60 last time they met.
