Thunder fall to Celtics 105-95 despite 37 points from Durant

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Paul Pierce and the Boston Celtics were not too pleased to see their former teammate Kendrick Perkins and the Thunder celebrate a win on their home floor on Martin Luther King Day.

Today they returned the favor sending Oklahoma City into the All-Star break with a 105-95 loss at home.

Pierce scored 27 points, Ray Allen had 24, and Rajon Rondo added 16 and 9 assists to help the Celtics avenge the MLK day loss.

"That whole group, they were absolutely terrific. They won the game for us," coach Doc Rivers said.

Kevin Durant finished the game with barrage of three pointers in a desperate attempt to keep the Thunder close. In the end his 37 points weren't enough. Neither was Russell Westbrook's 22 point performance.

Durant, Westbrook, and Rondo will be headed to Orlando to participate in this seasons All-Star game. All three players where well deserving of the honor.

After the break Oklahoma City be back at Chesapeake Energy Arena as they welcome the Charlotte Bobcats to town.

Loving the trades! They should really shake things up... I love that we both made the move to get Nash to the Blazers

Durant takes MVP honors, as West outguns East in All-Star Thriller

ORLANDO -- Kevin Durant may have been voted MVP, but when the Western conference needed a game winning shot, their was no doubt who would get the shot.

Trailing by 2 points in closing seconds of overtime in Sunday's thrilling All-Star game Blake Griffin swung the ball to Kobe Bryant on the wing. Bryant pulled up and fired a game winning three-pointer that hit nothing but net to put the West up 139-138. After a Derrick Rose miss, Durant sank two free throws and gave the West a 141-138 OT win.

Bryant led all scorers with 37 points, Durant had 32 with 11 rebounds to earn MVP honors for the first time in his career.

For much of the game it looked like the Eastern Conference would get the win. Dwayne Wade scored 29 to lead the East and Derrick Rose added 19 points and 8 assists.

Wade's teammate LeBron James had 16 points as did Carmelo Anthony.

After a deadline deal allowed the Bulls to team Derrick Rose with Dwight Howard, the two new teammates got show fans what is in store for the rest of the season(and beyond). Howard finished the game with 16 points and 7 rebounds in front of less than happy fans of his former franchise.

Chris Paul had a triple double for the West that included 11 steals, 14 assists, and 14 points. CP3 set up several of teammates for fantastic alley-oop finishes, including Blake Griffin who had just 8 points, but they were all spectacular.

Rudy Gay didn't waste his limited minutes scoring 14 points in 11 minutes of playing time. Russell Westbrook scored 13 off the West bench highlighted by a couple thunderous open court slams.

Lone Warriors representative Monta Ellis chipped in with 12 points off the Western Conference bench.

Al Jefferson made his first All-Star appearance after being, voted into the starting line-up at center by the fans. However, Jefferson decided to pay homage to veteran Tim Duncan by giving up his starting spot, in what is likely to be the last of Duncan's 14 All-Star appearances.

In an odd turn of events Andre Iguodala played for the East despite being traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves at the trade deadline. He scored 4 points in his first All-Star appearance.

With the game winding down in regulation Durant unleashed a flurry of points that tied the game at 127-127 and LeBron James jumper fell short at the buzzer sending the game into overtime.

The East took control early but the West refused to go down easy fighting their way back to set up Bryant for the eventual game winner.

This was one of the most entertaining All-Star games in history and with all the young talent on display, hopefully their will be many more to come.

Great All-Star write up. Have you tried making a dynasty blog instead of a thread? One more question, which table did you use for trades?

Thanks, I tried the blogs before but I prefer this way, no real reason, I just do. The trades table is the league leaders, put the teams in the stat name space, leave the abbrev. blank, and put the players where you normally would.

Thanks for the tip, but how do I add player photos and make it look like yours?

Durant's big night leads Thunder past Bobcats 102-94

OKLAHOMA CITY -- With Oklahoma City's offense "trying to go 100 miles an hour," according to Kevin Durant, the Thunder looked out of sync for a time on Friday night.

A bit of patience changed that.

When the shots started falling late in the game, the Thunder scored 15 straight points, pulled ahead and beat the Charlotte Bobcats 102-94.

"They just wanted this game more, especially in the fourth quarter," said Charlotte rookie Kemba Walker, who led the Bobcats with 29 points. "They made plays and we turned the ball over and didn't make shots. They just kept playing harder and harder and they just wanted to win more than we did."

Coming off his MVP performance in the All-Star Game, Durant didn't seem to miss a beat scoring 39 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.

The Thunder's other All-Star Russell Westbrook chipped in with 20 points and James Harden added 16 off the bench.

Oklahoma City led for the entire first half thanks to a 31-18 first quarter, but a lackluster start to the 2nd half nearly cost them the game, before Durant took over late to close out the win.

"We just had to take it slow, as simple as that," Durant said. "Just take it slow and move the basketball. Sometimes we held it a little bit too long. I could have made a better pass a few times. It's just all about moving the basketball. I think we did a decent job."

The Thunder will have an off-day as they travel to Orlando to start a back-to-back set of road games. First up will be the new-look Magic who traded superstar center Dwight Howard at the trade deadline.

New look Magic hand Thunder their worst loss of the season

ORLANDO -- Just five days after winning MVP of the All-Star Game in Orlando, Kevin Durant returned, to have one his worst games of the season.

While he scored 29 points, Durant shot just 37% as the Thunder were dominated by the Orlando Magic 111-89 Thursday night.

In the two games since trading away Dwight Howard the Orlando Magic are 2-0 and look they have been playing together for years.

Magic coach Stan Van Gundy hasn't made it changes to the offense and he hasn't needed to. Orlando hit 8 of 15 three point shots in the first half as they took a 61-41 lead into halftime and the Oklahoma City Thunder never recovered.

Jason Richardson led Orlando with 19 points and new addition Luol Deng chipped in with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

"People said a lot about our team, but tonight we proved otherwise," Richardson said. "We proved that we could play defense, we proved that we could move the ball like we're supposed to, we proved that we can make shots."

Russell Westbrook scored 27 points but had just 2 assists and turned the ball over 5 times in the Thunder loss.

"We just [weren't] playing tough enough," Westbrook said. "We couldn't get a stop and they were executing their plays very well."

"It was a team effort, and as a team we didn't come ready to play," Westbrook said.

Orlando finished the game with 5 players in double-figures, highlighted by Quentin Richardson, who scored 15 points on perfect 5-5 shooting in just 12 minutes of playing time.

The Thunder will have to find their game quickly as they play again tomorrow tonight against the Hawks in Atlanta. Oklahoma City won the first meeting earlier this season 90 to 81 behind 37 points from Durant.
