Thunder get by Trail Blazers 86-78

PORTLAND -- A satisfying victory for Oklahoma City was a head-scratcher for Portland.

The Portland Trailblazers took a two point lead into halftime but managed just 34 second half points as the Thunder took the game 86-78.

Kevin Durant scored 27 points and Russell Westbrook added 20 with 9 rebounds and 6 assists to help the Thunder beat the Blazers for the third time this season.

Portland was led by Gerald Wallace's 18 points, new Blazers guard Steve Nash scored 13, but had just 4 assists and 4 turnovers. LaMarcus Aldridge struggled to get any offense going shooting just 5 of 15 for 11 points.

"It's tough. We definitely played well enough to win this game," Aldridge said. "We had some tough calls and then we had some bad bounces late in the game. We have to learn from it."

"It was a tough game," Thunder coach Scott Brooks said. "It could have gone either way."

The Thunder will wrap up their short two game road trip in Los Angeles against the Lakers who sit 3rd in the Western conference. Oklahoma City has won both previous meetings with the Lakers this season.

Harden's career high helps Thunder dominate Lakers in L.A.

LOS ANGELES -- In the what-have-you-done-lately world of the NBA, the answer for the Los Angeles Lakers is nothing.

Falling behind 31-17 after one quarter the Lakers where never in Thursday nights game, trailing by as much as 30 before slightly closing the gap late as they where dominated by the Thunder 98-80 in front of a shocked Staples Center crowd.

"The measure of success is what you've just recently accomplished," Lakers coach Mike Brown said. "Right now, we're back in the middle of the pack."

Having lost 3 of their last 4 games has dropped L.A. to the 3rd seed in the Western Conference behind the defending champion Mavericks.

The Oklahoma City Thunder have an opposite trajectory at the moment having won 10 out of their last 11 games.

James Harden has played a big part in OKC's success as of late and tonight was no different as he scored a career high 28 points in the win and did so in just 23 minutes off the Thunder bench.

Kevin Durant added 25 points and while Russell Wesstbrook struggled with his shot he nearly notched a triple-double with 10 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists.

"This was a step in the right direction, but we want to get to something bigger, but it was kind of a statement win for us," Durant said.

Kobe Bryant did all he could to keep his team in the game pouring in 41 points. Ramon Sessions was the only other Laker to hit double figures with 16 points but he shot just 6 of 23. Pau Gasol grabbed 10 rebounds but only managed 5 points.

"We're just playing horrible defense right now. We're just making too many mistakes," Bryant said. "The mistakes that we're making are correctable and a good practice session will correct that."

The Thunder will have the rest of the month off before opening April at home against the Chicago Bulls who beat them 94-80 earlier this season and that was before the Bulls added Dwight Howard to their line-up.

Westbrook scores 25 as Oklahoma City pushes past Chicago

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Lying flat on his back and writhing in pain, Russell Westbrook gave Oklahoma City fans a big scare to start the game. By the time the game was winding down, he was soaring high again and leading the Thunder to victory.

Westbrook scored 25 points, Serge Ibaka added 16 points and 9 rebounds and Oklahoma City beat the new-look Chicago Bulls 91-77 on Sunday night.

"It's big. Of course, it's just one out of 82," said Kevin Durant, who had two blocks and scored 21 points. "But that definitely gives us confidence. Especially winning it this way, with the defense, I think that's big for us."

The Oklahoma City defense made the Bulls work for every point and Chicago failed to break the 20 point barrier in the first three quarters of the game.

"We're a defensive team. That comes first, and defense is going to lead to offense," Durant said. "That's the only thing we was worrying about in the fourth quarter was playing defense, and we did a good job of getting stops. That made it easier for us on the offensive end."

Derrick Rose led the Bulls with 22 points and Dwight Howard chipped in 12 points to go with 11 rebounds, but Howard spent much of the game stymied on the offensive end.

Returning to the line-up for the first time since March 13th, Kendricks Perkins played Howard tough all night and grabbed 10 rebounds along the way.

Oklahoma City will have a two day break before continuing the current 4 game home stand with a visit from the Golden State Warriors. The Thunder are 2-1 against the Warriors this season and won the last meeting 98-87.

Durant strains back as Thunder beat Warriors 88-72

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Despite winning Wednesday nights game against the Golden State Warriors, the Oklahoma City Thunder lost star Kevin Durant for the remainder of the regular season.

Durant scored 19 points in 18 minutes of playing time before suffering a lower back strain that will have him sidelined for 1-2 weeks.

"It's part of the game. Our organization, we don't make excuses," Thunder coach Scott Brooks said. "You play through it. You can't do anything about it. We have a team full of guys who are capable of playing good minutes, solid minutes and hard minutes, and they did."

Oklahoma City used an all around team effort in his absence to easily handle the Warriors 88-72.

James Harden led the way with 20 points off the bench and Russell Westbrook added 18 with 8 assists.

Golden State, who are also down a key player with David Lee sidelined, fell behind from the opening tip and never recovered.

Monta Ellis scored 24 points to lead the Warriors and Brandon Rush added 20 by hitting 6 of his 7 three point attempts.

The Thunder have an off day before they welcome the Portland Trail Blazers to town. OKC beat the Blazers 86-78 in the last meeting in Portland.

Thunder edge Blazers to sweep season series

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Oklahoma City City Thunder took a 12 point lead into the locker room against the Portland Trail Blazers Friday night. Even with Kevin Durant sidelined it seemed as though they would easily complete a sweep of the season series.

                              The Blazers had other ideas.

With 8 seconds left in the game Russell Westbrook stepped to the free throw line for for two shots that would have made it a four point margin for the Thunder.

He missed both, leaving the door open for Portland to win the game or possibly tie the score and force overtime.

Fortunately, for OKC Steve Nash's three point shot at the final horn clanged off the iron giving them an 88-86 win in the final regular season meeting between the division rivals.

Westbrook had 20 points and 8 assists and James Harden scored 21 off the bench in the narrow victory.

Serge Ibaka continued to stifle Portland's main weapon in LaMarcus Aldrige who scored just 12 points.

The Trail Blazers were led by Gerald Wallace's 20 points and Wes Matthews added 16 despite being in foul trouble most of the night.

"Tough," Matthews said, when asked how he felt about the loss afterwards.

Portland had been playing well as of late and have passed up the Lakers for the 3rd seed in the west.

Oklahoma City will have a day off before playing back-to-back games against the Lakers at home and then in Denver the following night against the Nuggets.
