Pistons Steal Game One, Charity Stripe Is The Key In 95-94 Victory

With just 3.2 seconds left on the clock, Pistons guard Rodney Stuckey calmly sunk two free throws to give the Pistons a one point lead against the Chicago Bulls. The Pistons held on after a miss by Derrick Rose at the buzzer, grabbing homecourt advantage away from the Bulls. Detroit knocked down 28 of their 31 free throw attempts compared to the Bulls, who hit just 12-22. Stuckey knocked down all 9 of his attempts to lead the way.

Detroit was led by Greg Monroe with 22 points. Jose Calderon had 11 points and 7 assists. He also grabbed a surprising 8 rebounds, 2nd on the team to Jonas Jerebko's nine. Off the bench Charlie Villanueva scored 9 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and had 3 steals in 16 minutes of action. Villanueva hit all four of his shots, including his only three point attempt. Chicago was led by Rose with 26 points and 7 assists. Rose struggled with ball control, turning it over 8 times. Carlos Boozer continued his excellent playoffs by scoring 25. Luol Deng and Jimmy Butler struggled, combining to hit just 5 of 20 shots.

Pistons coach Lawrence Frank said, "We earn our opportunities at the line by being aggressive in going to the basket. And we knocked them down. It was a great team effort with all the guys contributing. I liked our rotations and our pick and roll defense. Rose is going to get his, but creating 8 turnovers off of him is great. And with Boozer you play him straight up. Right now he can't seem to miss that fall back jumper. We played it well and will continue to play it that way. If he hits, then we take our hats off to him."

Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau said, "Way too many turnovers and bad fouls. We can't win turning the ball over and sending them to the line for easy points. We have to play smart defense by moving our feet and not using our hands. We have to run our sets and get good shots. I thought we forced some things, which led to the turnover issues."
