Detroit Pistons: Rebuilding Towards the Title
I'm back with 2k13 to do another Pistons Dynasty. You can check out my link below to my dynasty for 2k12. I will be doing this dynasty in the same fashion. I play as the Pistons and play most games, with the occasional Sim. I control all 30 teams. I make the rotations for all 30 teams, I do all contracts, free agents, roster moves, trades, etc. For each game as the Pistons I will provide a boxscore and a short news article detailing the game. I will also post major injuries, league news, league leaders, standings, etc.
So I hope everyone enjoys this dynasty as much as they did my other one.Tags: None -

Pistons 4th Quarter Comeback Leads To Win In Home Opener
Lovers of defense may have been put off by the Pistons opener, but most Detroit fans probably didn't care. The Pistons overcame a 13 point deficit heading into the 4th quarter to beat the Houston Rockets 128-124. The 1st half ended with Houston leading 55-54, but the 2nd half turned into a shootout as Detroit scored 74 and Houston scored 69. The Pistons reversed the deficit in the first 5 minutes of the 4th, taking the lead with 6:48 remaining. From there the teams traded the lead back and forth before Greg Monroe and Tayshaun Prince both hit big buckets to give Detroit a 1 point lead. Brandon Knight hit two free throws and then picked the pocket of James Harden leading to one of two free throws for Rodney Stuckey to finish the scoring.
Detroit was led by Greg Monroe with 21 points, 11 rebounds, and 2 blocked shots. Tayshaun Prince had 20 points and Charlie Villanueva had 20 points off the bench in just 21 minutes. Brandon Knight led the Pistons with 10 assists, despite turning the ball over 7 times. Houston was led by James Harden with 29 points. Chandler Parson had 26, including hitting 5 of 9 three pointers. Omer Asik had 18 points to go with 17 rebounds, including 9 of them on the offensive glass. Patrick Patterson also had 18, while Jeremy Lin had 13 assists. The Pistons bench outscored Houston's bench 47-19.
Pistons coach Lawrence Frank said, "It was a good win. We really got out of sorts in the 3rd quarter and dug ourselves a hole. But in the 4th Charlie, Greg, Rodney, Brandon, and Tayshaun all started being agressive and getting to the foul line. We have to do a better job on the defensive boards but I liked our energy out there and I liked our agression. We also spaced the floor well leading to open threes that we knocked down. There is certainly work to do but it's nice to get that first win out of the way."
Houston coach Kevin McHale said, "We simply didn't stop penetration in the 4th quarter. You can't win with there guys getting that many shots in the paint or getting to the foul line."
Detroit now heads to Phoenix for a game with the Suns on the 2nd of November.

Pistons Again Seize Game In 4th Quarter, Move to 2-0
The Detroit Pistons seem to enjoy being fashionably late to the party. For the 2nd game in a row, the Pistons trailed by double digits in the 4th quarter, only to come back and win the game, this time 108-102 over the Phoenix Suns. Detroit trailed by 9 entering the 4th and by 11 after the Phoenix Suns scored the first basket of the 4th quarter, but from there Brandon Knight and Charlie Villanueva helped lead the Pistons comeback. Villanueva scored 6 points early in the 4th while Knight had 11 of his 18 points in the final 8 minutes of the game. Despite Greg Monroe fouling out with 5:02 to play, the Pistons took the lead at 101-100 and never looked back.
Rodney Stuckey, settling into his new role as 6th man, led Detroit with 22 points and also had 5 assists. Knight had 18 points to go with 5 assists of his own. Villanueva and Monroe both had 17 each. For the 2nd straight game, the Pistons bench dominated the opposition bench, this time out-scoring the Suns Bench 49-25. One major issue for the Pistons was the defensive glass. Phoenix grabbed 20 offensive rebounds, including 10 in the 4th quarter, allowing them to hold on to the lead longer than they should have. Phoenix was led by Shannon Brown with 22 and Luis Scola with 21 points. Goran Dragi led the Suns with 13 assists but shot just 3-18 from the field. Michael Beasley had 14 points and 10 rebounds off the bench.
Pistons coach Lawrence Frank said, "I hope this isn't going to be a habit...the waiting until the 4th quarter part, not the winning. We have to play better from the opening whistle. I liked how our defense tightened in the 4th, but we weren't finishing by getting the defensive rebound. If the Suns don't go cold, we lose that game. We can't count on getting hot in the 4th and the other team going cold every game. We got lucky a bit these two games. Now it's time to play solid D all game long, play smart, aggressive basketball on the offensive end, and control the glass."
Suns coach Alvin Gentry said, "We let this one slip away. We had opportunities, but both Shannon and Goran went cold in the 4th and even our putbacks weren't falling."
Detroit is now 2-0 and heads to across country for a Sunday night game with the Orlando Magic in Orlando.

Pistons Stun Lakers At the Forum, Improve to 3-0
Three games into the season and the Detroit Pistons are the talk of the league. In the offseason the Pistons traded Ben Gordon to the Charlotte Bobcats and had to include a protected 1st round pick in order to get Charlotte to take Gordon's salary. Unless the Pistons made the playoffs, that pick seemed safe this year. Or so the experts thought. But after three games, Piston fans are starting to envision the playoffs. Detroit chose to start fast tonight rather than needing a 4th quarter comeback and knocked off the Lakers 109-101. The Pistons raced out to a 32-20 1st quarter lead, and added 3 more points to the lead for a 15 point halftime advantage. Once again the bench was key as Detroit's bench, led by Rodney Stuckey and Charlie Villanueva, scored 34 points to just 16 for the Lakers somewhat suspect bench.
Brandon Knight led the Pistons with 23 points while Greg Monroe had a double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Monroe also had 4 steals. Rodney Stuckey led Detroit with 10 assists. Kobe Bryant led the Lakers with 30 points and also grabbed 9 rebounds. Dwight Howard had 23 points and 17 boards. Steve Nash led the team with 8 assists and added 14 points. Pau Gasol struggled in his new role wandering farther from the post. Gasol had just 10 points and 5 rebounds, while shooting 3-11. For the season Gasol is averaging less than 12 points and 9 rebounds a game and has shot just 16-43.
Detroit now heads to Denver who are currently 2-1 for a game Tuesday night.

Pistons Clamp Down Defensively In 2nd Half, Knight Shines In 93-86 Win
The Detroit Pistons contiinue to be both the talk of the league and the comeback kids. For the third time in their 4 wins, the Pistons overcame a double digit 2nd half deficit to grab victory, this time 93-86 over the Denver Nuggets in Denver. Detroit fell behind by 6 after 1 quarter and 10 at half. However in the 2nd half Detroit held the Nuggets to just 32 points. Brandon Knight had 33 points, 20 in the 2nd half to lead the Pistons to the victory, their third in as many tries on the road.
In addition to Knight, Greg Monroe and Rodney Stuckey were the other Pistons in double figures with 16 and 12 points respectively. Andre Drummond led the team with 10 rebounds in just 20 minutes of action. Kenneth Faried led the Nuggets with 18 points. Ty Lawson had 13 to go with 6 assists and Danillo Gallinari had 11 points and a team-high 10 rebounds. Denver's top two scorers, Gallinari and Andre Iguodala both struggled from the field, combining to shoot just 4-24.
Pistons coach Lawrence Frank said, "Despite being 4-0, this is the first game I really felt like we played well defensively throughout. I would like to see us play like we did in the 2nd half all the time. We still need to work on our defensive rebounding. We continue to give up too many offensive rebounds. However it is hard to complain too much when we are 4-0."
Nuggets coach George Karl said, "We simply didn't make shots and we failed to stop Knight. Those two factors are why we lost, plain and simple. We Ty and Andre struggled to guard him and our other guys did a poor job of helping out. At the same time we had some good shooters have bad nights. What we can take away from this game is that even with off nights from some key players, if we play better D on Knight...we win."
Detroit has to leave tonight for a flight to Sacramento as they play their first back-to-back Wednesday evening against the 1-3 Kings.

Pistons Fall For 1st Time To Kings, 127-124 In Sacramento
Even the most optimistic Detroit Piston fan knew they wouldn't go undefeated, but that still didn't make Wednesday night's loss to Sacramento any easier to take. Detroit entered the game with a strategy of not letting DeMarcus Cousins beat them and forcing Tyreke Evans into jump shots. Cousins was limited to 13 points but Evans showed a surprising skill in knocking down long 2s and even hit 4-9 from three point range on his way to 35 points. Detroit almost pulled off a 4th quarter comeback erasing a 14 point deficit but falling short as Charlie Villanueva missed a 3 at the buzzer that would have tied the game at 127.
Detroit was led by Greg Monroe and Brandon Knight. Monroe had 25 points and 14 rebounds. Knight had 24 points and 14 assists. Tayshaun Prince had 21 with 10 of them coming in the 4th quarter comeback. Also in double figures were Rodney Stuckey with 16, Villanueva with 14, and Kyle Singler with 11 points, all of them in the 2nd half. Evans led Sacramento with his 35. Marcus Thornton and Aaron Brooks both had 14, Cousins had the aforementioned 13,a and John Salmons had 10 in just 8 minutes of play. Jason Thompson led the Kings with 12 rebounds and Brooks had 11 assists. Sacramento only turned the ball over 4 times and outscored the Piston bench 51-39.
Piston's coach Lawrence Frank said, "Very disappointing game from a defensive perspective. You aren't going to win too many games giving up 127 points. We took away Cousins in the post but did a very poor job of rotating to open shooters. We also didn't put enough pressure on their ballhandlers to force turnovers. Our defense simply has to improve to compete night in and night out in this league."
Kings coach Keith Smart said, "We held serve at home. That is what you have to do in this league. I was very pleased with our bench play. Guys came in and knocked down shots. And having just turnovers is simply fantastic."
Detroit heads off to face Oklahoma City on Friday night. The Thunder are currently 3-1.

Pistons Lose 2nd In A Row On The Road to OKC, 91-83
The Detroit Pistons once again had a strong 4th quarter, but unfortunately for them, the game was too far out of reach. The Oklahoma City Thunder built up a 17 point lead in the first three quarters so that even a strong defensive 4th quarter for Detroit (20-11) wasn't enough to get Detroit the victory. OKC was led by Kevin Durant with 33 points and 13 rebounds. Neither team shot particularly well (40% each), but OKC hit 7 more free throws and won the turnover battle 16-9.
Detroit was led by Brandon Knight with 24 points. Greg Monroe had 17 and both Rodney Stuckey and Tayshaun Prince had 11. Knight struggled with turnovers again, coughing it up 7 times. He also only hit 1-8 from three point land but was far more successful taking the ball to the hoop. In addition to Durant, Russell Westbrook and Thabo Sefolosha had 13 each while Serge Ibaka added 12. Westbrook led OKC with 8 assists.
Pistons coach Lawrence Frank said, "I liked our defense a lot better but we simply didn't hit shots tonight. It happens. I don't think we took bad shots, we simply had an off night shooting. Against OKC that will get you beat."
Durant said, "It was a good win, although we have to close games out better in the 4th quarter. We went cold in the 4th but our defense helped us keep the victory."
Detroit now heads to Houston for the 2nd of back-to-back games. Houston is 1-4.

Pistons Lose 3rd In A Row, Struggle Defensively In 125-117 Loss
Once again it was the defense that let the Detroit Pistons down. Detroit gave up 125 points to the Houston Rockets in losing their 3rd straight game. With James Harden saddled with foul trouble, Carlos Delfino stepped up, scoring a career-high 35 points.
Detroit was led by Charlie Villanueva with 24 points in just 21 minutes off the bench. Greg Monroe had 16 points and 8 rebounds. Cory Maggette and Jonas Jerebko played for the first time this season, scoring 10 and 8 points respectively. Harden had 24 points in just 22 minutes. Omer Asik had 14 points and 15 rebounds, while Jeremy Lin had 14 assists.
Pistons coach Lawrence Frank said, "I'm frustrated. We have to find five guys who will play defense. If we can't then we will have to go elsewhere to find five guys who will play defense."

Durant Drops 55 On Detroit As Pistons Lose 4th In A Row
Tayshaun Prince has a reputation as a pretty good defensive player. But tonight the national guard couldn't have stopped Kevin Durant. Durant hit 22 of his 34 shots, including knocking down 6-8 three pointers on his way to 55 points. He also grabbed 11 rebounds. Detroit tried everything against Durant including double teams, zones, and a variety of defenders.
Detroit was led by Brandon Knight with 22 points. Greg Monroe had 18 points and 10 rebounds. In addition to Durant, the Thunder were led by Russell Westbrook with 26 points and 9 assists. Thabo Sefolosha had 10 rebounds and 8 assists. Serge Ibaka left the game with a sore ankle after just 7 minutes and is expected to miss 7-14 days.
Detroit is now 4-4 after a 4-0 start. The Thunder improved to 7-1. Detroit travels to Philadelphia to play the 4-2 76ers.

Pistons Lose 5th Straight 107-94 To Sixers, Fall Below .500
After being the talk of the league for a 4-0 start the Pistons dropped their 5th straight game, 107-94 to the Philadelphia 76ers. Pistons big man Greg Monroe struggled with foul trouble and the rest of his teammates failed to compensate for his absence in the scoring column. Detroit started fast, grabbing a 32-24 1st quarter lead but only led at half by one after a poor 2nd quarter. Philadelphia took control in the 3rd, dropping 38 points on Detroit and cruised to victory.
The 76ers were led by Thaddeus Young with 24 points. Jason Richardson had 20 points and 10 rebounds and Andrew Bynum also had a double-double with 17 points and 10 boards. Jrue Holiday led the team with 11 assists to go with his 17. Detroit was led by Tayshaun Prince and Brandon Knight with 14 apiece. Rodney Stuckey had 13 and Andre Drummond 12. Drummon led the team with 12 rebounds while Knight had a team-high 8 assists.
Pistons coach Lawrence Frank said, "We have to stop these 35 and 40 point quarters. Our defense continues to struggle and we won't win a lot of games until we get it figure out."
76ers center Bynum said, "We got off to a slow start but then J-Rich got going in the 2nd and in the 2nd half Thaddeus started hitting his jumper. When we are all working together, we are hard to beat."
Detroit now heads home to take on the 3-4 Orlando Magic.
