Pistons Break Losing Streak Behind Monroe, Beat Magic 116-105

Piston's fans finally had something to cheer about as the Detroit Pistons broke their five game losing streak with a 116-105 win over the Orlando Magic. Detroit led almost from the opening tip and was never seriously threatened in the 2nd half. Greg Monroe led Detroit with 31 points, 11 rebounds, and 6 assists. He also blocked two shots. Detroit shot 53% for the game and also got to the line 33 times (making 27) compared to just 13 for the jump-shot happy Magic. Detroit also dominated in bench points 41-22, continuing a season-long trend.

In addition to Monroe, Brandon Knight and Rodney Stuckey both had 22 points. Stuckey had 6 assists and Knight had 5. Tayshaun Prince also dished out 6 assists. Andre Drummond came off the bench to score 13 points and grab 7 rebounds. Orlando was led by Jameer Nelson with 21 points and 7 assists. Nikola Vucevic shot 9-10 from the field on his way to 18 points and 9 rebounds. Rookie Mo Harkless had a career-high 16 points, as did former Piston Aaron Afflalo.

Piston coach Lawrence Frank said, "Our defense was slightly better, particularly in the 4th quarter. I like how active Greg was. He scored in the post, he knocked down mid-range jumpers off the pick and roll and he got the ball at the top of the key or the elbow and drove to the hoop. We had a nice effort on the offensive glass and we had good ball movement. A positive performance overall."

Magic coach Jacques Vaughn said, "We got beat in the paint. They passed really well, especially on the interior. Knight and Stuckey got to the line a ton on drives to the hoop and Monroe showed how crafty he is in the post. When we double-teamed him or Tayshaun, they made us pay by finding the open man. My hat is off to Detroit. They played a really nice offensive game."

Detroit now waits for Boston to come to town for a Sunday night game.

      Monroe, Pistons Overwhelm Celtics 111-85

Greg Monroe is starting to be mentioned in conversations with Dwight Howard and Andrew Bynum as a true dominating center in the NBA. For the 2nd straight game, Monroe had over 30 points, this time dropping 37 on Boston to go with 9 rebounds, 6 assists, 6 steals, and 2 blocks. Boston started the game with Jason Collins guarding Monroe, but he was unable to deal with the quickness of Monroe. Boston also tried Kevin Garnett and Jared Sullinger, but both were just as unsuccessful as Collins. Detroit had a 23 point halftime lead and coasted to victory.

Rodney Stuckey had 20 points and 7 assists to complement Monroe's production. Brandon Knight just missed a triple double with 15 points, 9 rebounds, and 8 assists. Tayshaun Prince also had a well-rounded game with 11 points, 7 rebounds, and 9 assists, the majority of which were feeding Monroe in the post. Boston was led by Rajon Rondo with 25 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 assists. Garnett had 14, with Jason Terry and Jeff Green both adding 13 off the bench. Paul Pierce was limited to 11 points on 4-15 shooting.

Pistons coach Lawrence Frank said, "That was our best effort and most complete game this season. We played defense and we executed on offense. Greg is just in the zone right now and we will keep feeding him."

Celtics coach Doc Rivers said, "That was pathetic. We have to be better. Period. We looked old and tired out there and you don't win titles looking old and tired."

Boston fell to 7-4 while Detroit won their 2nd straight to move over .500 at 6-5. Detroit now has two full days off before playing Orlando on the road on Wednesday.

Re: Detroit Pistons: Rebuilding Towards the Title

Former Piston Afflalo Nails Buzzer Beater, Detroit Loses 87-86

Aaron Afflalo holds no ill-will towards the Detroit Pistons franchise, but you wouldn't know it by the contested 20 footer he knocked down with no time on the clock to defeat the Detroit Pistons 87-86. After Rodney Stuckey hit two free throws with 4.3 seconds left to give Detroit a one point lead over the Orlando Magic, Afflalo got the inbounds from Al Harrington and found himself unable to get around Stuckey. With fractions of a second left, Afflalo rose up and knocked down the shot with Stuckey draped all over him. Afflalo finished with a team-high 17 points. Detroit struggled all game with their shooting, finishing at just 36% and hitting just 4 of 20 three pointers. The main culprits were Tayshaun Prince, who shot 2-11 and Charlie Villanueva who shot just 1-10.

In addition to Afflalo, Orlando was led by Al Harrington, playing just his 2nd game this season, with 15 points and 8 rebounds. Jameer Nelson also had 15 points to go with 5 assists and Nikola Vucevic scored 14 points and grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds. Detroit was led by Stuckey with 28 points. Brandon Knight had 17 and 6 assists and Greg Monroe had 14 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists. Andre Drummond led the team with 11 rebounds.

Piston's coach Lawrence Frank said, "I don't think we played badly. Our defense was good, we simply failed to make shots. That happens some nights. I'd be more concerned if we didn't compete hard, didn't execute our offense and didn't defend properly."

Afflalo said, "I have fond memories of my time in Detroit. But I can't say it isn't nice to send a former team to defeat."

Detroit fell to 6-6 while the Magic improved to 5-6. Detroit heads back home for a Friday night matchup with the Toronot Raptors, who are currently 4-8.

Pistons Struggle In 4th, Lose to Raptors At Home 99-93

The Detroit Pistons blew a 4 point lead heading into the 4th quarter and were outscored 26-16 on their way to a 99-93 loss. For the 2nd staight game the Pistons struggled with their shooting, knocking down just 41%. Toronto was led by DeMarr DeRozan with 31 points, including 10 in the 4th quarter.

Detroit was led by Tayshaun Prince with 20 points. Brandon Knight had 18 to go with 7 assists. Rodney Stuckey and Greg Monroe both had 17 points. Monroe had another great all-around game with 8 rebounds and 9 assists. For the Raptors, Kyle Lowry had 19 points and 6 assists. Jose Calderon scored 16 and Andrea Bargnani had 14 points.

Pistons coach Lawrence Frank said, "I'm not concerned by the shooting. We have good shooters. They will come out of this slump. I'm more concerned by some defensive lapses, particularly in the 4th quarter."

Detroit heads to New York for an afternoon game against the Knicks on Saturday.

Pistons Blast Knicks At The Garden, Monroe Dominates In 111-87 Victory

Greg Monroe is turning into a superstar right before the eyes of Detroit Piston fans and on Saturday afternoon, before the eyes of New York area viewers as well. Monroe led the Pistons with 35 points, 11 rebounds, and 8 assists in leading Detroit to a 111-87 romp. Detroit game out of the gate fast and never looked back. New York, playing without Amar'e Stoudemire, shot just 38% from the field, compared to 51% for Detroit. The Pistons also enjoyed a huge advantage on the boards, 60-37, including 20 offensive rebounds. Detroit dominated the paint with 54 points to just 32 for New York.

Rodney Stuckey helped the Detroit cause with 26 points, while Brandon Knight led the team with 8 assists to go with 15 points. The Knicks were led by Carmelo Anthony with 31 points. The only other Knick in double figures was J.R. Smith with 16 points off the bench. Tyson Chandler led the Knicks with 12 rebounds and 3 blocks.

Piston coach Lawrence Frank said, "This was a good win for us. We executed offensively and really clamped down defensively. We kept them out of the paint for the most part, limiting Felton's penetration and kept Carmelo shooting jumpers. On offense Greg is just amazing right now. He's playing at a level reserved for guys named Dwight, Kobe, and LeBron."

Anthony said, "Garbage. We played like garbage. Not much more to say than that. We got killed on the glass. We got killed defensively. We didn't hit shots. We didn't execute. We didn't look anything like the championship caliber team we aim to be."

Detroit heads right back home for a Sunday night contest against the Portland Trail Blazers. Portland currently stands at 5-8 while Detroit is 7-7.

Big 2nd Half Lifts Pistons Past Blazers 99-93, Knight Has 25

On a night when the bench wasn't up to it's normal standards, the Pistons starters came through with a strong 2nd half to defeat the Portland Trail Blazers at the Palace of Auburn Hills. Despite it being the 2nd night of back-to-back games, Piston starters played major minutes. Brandon Knight led Detroit with 25 to help defeat the Portland Trail Blazers 99-93. One of the biggest keys for Detroit was turning the ball over just 7 times compared to 15 for the Blazers. As a result, Detroit had 10 more shots than Portland and were able to overcome a 11 point halftime deficit. Detroit still trailed by 6 entering the 4th quarter but outscored Portland 29-17.

In addition to Knight, 4 other Pistons were in double figures. Tayshaun Prince had 17, Greg Monroe 16, and Rodney Stuckey and Kyle Singler both had 14. The Detroit bench shot just 6-22, mostly because of Stuckey's 4-17 performance. Charlie Villanueva went scoreless for the first time this season. Portland was led by LaMarcus Aldridge with 20 points and rookie Damien Lillard with 18 points and 12 assists. J.J. Hickson led the team with 9 rebounds to go with his 15 points.

Pistons coach Lawrence Frank said, "We looked bad in the 1st half but we got it together late. I wish we had that kind of defensive intensity all game long. This is the NBA and playing 2 nights in a row is no excuse for coming out flat."

Detroit improved to 8-7 while Portland fell to 5-9. The Pistons now wait for Phoenix to come to town for a Wednesday night game at the Palace.

Pistons Win Thriller Against Suns 109-108 On Knight's Lay-Up

What a game and what a final 36 seconds of basketball. The Detroit Pistons slipped past the Phoenix Suns at the Palace when Brandon Knight drove for a remarkably easy layup and a 109-108 Piston victory. Getting to that point was an adventure for both teams. Trailing 106-105, Tayshaun Prince threw the ball away, giving Phoenix possession and a one point lead with 36 seconds on the clock. Phoenix missed a shot with 16 secons on the clock and Detroit called timeout. After an inbound to Knight, he found a cutting Greg Monroe for an easy layup and a 107-106 lead. After a Phoenix timeout, Jason Maxiell stole the inbounds but then threw the ball right back to Phoenix's Shannon Brown, who found Jared Dudley for the go-ahead layin with 4.6 seconds left. After a 20 second Detroit timeout, Knight received the inbounds, curled off a Greg Monroe screen and found himself wide open as he cut down the lane for a finger roll with 0.8 seconds left. Goran Dragic missed a desperation heave and Detroit escaped with a 109-108 victory.

Monroe, despite foul trouble, led Detroit with 22 points. He also had 7 rebounds and 7 assists. Knight had 21 points and 11 assists. Rodney Suckey had 19 points, 17 of them in the 2nd half. Andre Drummond played a season-high 31 minute and had 9 points, 10 rebounds, and 2 blocks. The game might have been easier if the Pistons had not shot 9-20 from the foul line, including 0-6 in the 1st half. Phoenix was led by Shannon Brown's 32 points. Jared Dudley shot 8-9 from the field to score 16. Goran Dragic had 13 points and 10 assists.

Detroit coach Lawrence Frank said, "This was a gut check win. We played behind 3 to 7 points all night and pulled it out in the end. Of course the free throw shooting played a factor, but we kept our heads up and worked hard until the final buzzer."

Phoenix coach Alvin Gentry said, "A disappointing loss in a disappointing year. We had opportunities and we had the lead for all but a few minutes of the game. We need to close these types of games out. The defense on the last two scores by Detroit was simply inexcusable. Two layups in the last 12 seconds of the game. Unbelievable."

Detroit improved to 9-7 while Phoenix fell to 4-12. Detroit finishes off the month with a road game against the 4-8 Memphis Grizzlies

Pistons Blow Large 4th Quarter Lead, Hold On To Beat Grizzlies

With 12 minutes to go, Lawrence Frank was starting to contemplate at what point he should give Jonas Jerebko, Will Bynum, and Cory Maggette some playing time. 12 minutes of game time later, they had not left the bench as Detroit was outscored 32-14 in the 4th quarter, but managed to hold on for the 99-95 victory. Detroit shot a sizzling 63% for the game from downtown, knocking down 12-19 three pointers.

Detroit was led by Brandon Knight with 27 points. Rodney Stuckey had a team-high 8 assists to go with his 17 points. Kyle Singler had his highest point total since opening night with 16 points. Austin Daye scored 11 points off the bench in just 12 minutes, while Andre Drummond blocked 4 shots. Memphis was led by Rudy Gay with 24 points. Zach Randolph had 21 points and 16 rebounds. Marc Gasol, playing with a broken finger, shot just 1-9 from the field and scored only 3 points in 37 minutes of action. He was effective defensively, limiting Greg Monroe to just 12 points on 6-16 shooting.

Pistons guard Knight said, "Despite their current record, we beat what I consider one of the top teams in the league, and we beat them on the road. It shows how fast this team is developing. I know some experts thought we were a sure lottery team but I see no reason why we can't make the playoffs this season. The future is now for us."

Gasol said, "I'm not going to blame the finger. I didn't produce. By the time the team woke up tonight it was too late. We made a nice run in the 4th, but it's hard expending all that energy to catch up. It tires you out."

Detroit is now 10-7, while Memphis fell to 4-9.

I did notice you and the CPU have quite a few DNP Coach's Decisions on your box scores though. I almost never have the CPU sit a player out the whole game. What is your fatigue level on and did you adjust the CPU coach settings or something??

Well I control all 30 teams and do the rotations, so that probably helps. I have the fatigue rate set at 48. I use BedwardsRoy's rosters so not sure if coaching profiles were changed or not. He has a thread in the roster section you can check out. In played games, the minutes aren't perfect for the CPU. They leave out the guys zero minutes, but the CPU seems to struggle with starters who don't play major minutes like Mo Harkless (when he was starting in real life) for the Magic. I had him set to play 15 minutes or so and the CPU played him 30 or so against me. In simmed games the minutes are working great. Honestly I'm thrilled because one of my major complaints in past 2k games was scrubs always stealing 2 or 3 minutes. Now the next step is for 2k to develop a system that plays scrubs in simmed games if it's a blowout but not if it's somewhat close.
