Pistons Drop 3rd In A Row 118-102, Anthony Has 34 For Knicks

The Detroit Pistons lost their 3rd straight game, this time to the New York Knicks 118-102. New York shot a sizzling 55% from the field and knocked down 6 of their 10 three point attempts. The Knicks also forced 15 Detroit turnovers while committing just 9 of their own. Pistons 2nd year guard Brandon Knight continues to be somewhat erratic in his new role as starting 2 guard. Knight hit just 1 of his 9 shots and had 9 points and 3 assists in 33 minutes. He also was a minus 31 in his time on the court.

Carmelo Anthony led New York with 34 points and 9 assists. Amar'e Stoudemire had 23 points, J.R. Smith 17, and Raymond Felton 16. Felton had 8 assists while Tyson Chandler had 4 blocks. Detroit players Greg Monroe, Rodney Stuckey, and Kyle Singler all had 18 points. Monroe had a game-high 11 rebounds, while Jose Calderon had 7 assists. Charlie Villanueva had 13 points and 6 rebounds in 16 minutes off the bench.

Pistons coach Lawrence Frank said, "Disappointing defensive effort. We allowed 58 points in the paint and we allowed too many easy shots. If a team scores a 118 points and hits 55% on tough shots, then my hat is off to them, but that wasn't the case. We didn't make them work hard enough and that is why we lost."

Detroit heads back home to face Brooklyn on Wednesday night. The Nets are 26-22 while Detroit fell to 23-26 with the loss to the Knicks.

Knight, Pistons Race Back Against Nets With Dominating 2nd Half Performance

Down 16 and having been mired in foul trouble much of the first half, Brandon Knight decided enough was enough. Knight put the Pistons on his back and helped the team break their three game losing streak with a 110-100 victory over the Brooklyn Nets. Knight scored 31 2nd half points while playing all 24 minutes and led the Pistons to a 68-42 thumping of the Nets in the final 24 minutes of the contest. Knight knocked down shots from beyond the arc, mid-range, and on drives to the lane. Detroit out-scored Brooklyn 54-42 inside the paint, despite trailing 18-10 in 2nd chance points.

Greg Monroe also had a nice game with 24 points, 9 rebounds, and 8 assists. Rodney Stuckey was the only other Piston in double figures with 18. Andre Drummond led Detroit with 10 rebounds and 3 blocks. Brook Lopez led the Nets with 29 points, 20 of them in the 1st half, but grabbed just 3 rebounds in his 34 minutes. Also in double figures were Deron Williams with 13, Andray Blatche with 12, and Gerald Wallace with 10. Wallace led the team with 10 rebounds.

Piston coach and former Nets coach Lawrence Frank said, "This game said a lot about our character. Down 16 and having lost 3 in a row, we had every reason to give up, resign ourselves to another loss. But we didn't. We fought and we clawed our ways back. We did it by playing good defense, by working hard, and by making them defend penetration and double team the post. I am very proud of my team tonight."

Detroit improved to 24-26 and waits for the San Antonio Spurs to reach town for a Friday night game.

Re: Detroit Pistons: Rebuilding Towards the Title

Disastrous 4th Quarter Dooms Pistons, Spurs Win 94-85

After a strong third quarter, the Detroit Pistons entered the 4th confident and with a 12 point lead. From there the roof caved in on Detroit as the San Antonio Spurs outscored them 35-14 in the 4th quarter to win 94-85. Pistons guards Rodney Stuckey, Jose Calderon, and Brandon Knight fired brick after brick as the Spurs blanketed Greg Monroe inside. San Antonio also hit 6 of their 10 3 pointers in the 4th quarter while Detroit missed 17 of 22 shots. For the game, the Spurs outshot the Pistons 45% to 36%. Detroit failed to take advantage of their 16 offensive rebounds, as they were turned in to only 8 2nd chance points.

San Antonio was led by Manu Ginobili, who was in the starting lineup replacing injured guard Danny Green. Ginobili had 28 points to lead the Spurs. Tony Parker scored 20 and Tim Duncan had 16 points and 10 rebounds. Detroit was led by Greg Monroe with 26 points, 15 rebounds, and 5 assists. Monroe scored 22 of his 26 in the first three quarters and found it difficult to find shots in the 4th due to the Spurs sagging defense in the paint. The only other Pistons in double figures were Brandon Knight who struggled to 11 points on 5-17 shooting and Kyle Singler who had 10.

Pistons coach Lawrence Frank said, "We checked out early. They knocked down some threes, we couldn't hit shots. If they double inside, we have to capitalize by knocking down open shots. We didn't and that is why we only scored 14 in the 4th. We also missed some real easy putbacks off offensive rebounds. Our offensive rebounding was good, we just failed to capitalize on those 2nd chance opportunities."

Detroit fell to 24-27 while San Antonio improved to 32-19. Detroit leaves immediately for Milwaukee for a Saturday night Division matchup with the Bucks, who are 17-31 but will have Monta Ellis back in the lineup after he missed 8 weeks of action.

Trade Rumors Are Flying, Jennings, Josh Smith Moving?

With Less than two weeks until the trade deadline, rumors are heating up. Rudy Gay was already involved in a three way deal involving Jose Calderon and Tayshaun Prince. As teams make the decision if the playoffs are a lost cause or they need an extra piece for a stretch run push, reporters are working overtime following all the rumors. One of the most prominent names mentioned has been Brandon Jennings of the Milwaukee Bucks. Locker room gossip has Jennings not sure of the future of the franchise or a future pairing with Monta Ellis, who is rumored to working out a contract extension soon. Some are saying the Bucks will move Jennings, others suggest they will entice Jennings to sign an extension by moving Ellis instead. Milwaukee has several enticing expiring contracts in Jennings (RFA), Ellis (UFA), Samuel Dalembert, Mike Dunleavy, and Beno Udrih. They also have a couple of disappointments with potential that might bring a decent trade package in Epke Udoh and Eran Ilyasova.

With Indiana joining Memphis as the most disappointing teams in the league this year, many expect the Pacers to trade Danny Granger and/or David West. West is in the final year of his deal while Granger has one more season. Many feel the team is better off with Paul George at 3 and getting a package for Granger. The Toronto Raptors are rumbling that they may trade Andrea Bargnani as they look to become more defensive-minded. also on the market is Free Agent disappointment Landry Fields. Washington is said to be interested in getting rid of talented but unpredictable malcontent Jordan Crawford. They have also sent out feelers on moving Jan Vesely to a team that still feels he can be a productive NBA player and would love to move Trevor Ariza and his contract, but aren't hopeful. Also in the East almost everbody not named Moe Harkless is available from the Magic, but the most likely to move are expiring contracts Hedo Turkoglu and J.J. Reddick. The team tried to talk to some teams about Glenn Davis and his oversized contract and were quickly rebuffed. The Charlotte Bobcats would also love to move a bad contract in Tyrus Thomas, but would probably have to take on a bad contract of their own, plus thrown in some young talent they aren't willing to part with such as Gerald Henderson or Bismack Biyombo. Finally the Hawks continue to deny that they will trade Josh Smith. Smith has been tight-lipped about re-signing with Atlanta but league experts say Smith will be unhappy with the offers he gets on the open market this off-season. His best bet might be to find a team willing to lock him up for close to a max deal in a trade. Atlanta would also like to trade expiring contracts Anthony Morrow and Devin Harris for draft picks or a young small forward.

Out West the most intriguing team is the Utah Jazz. Utah is currently in the five spot but no one believes they will keep both Paul Millsap and All Jefferson this off-season with Derrick Favors and Enes Kanter waiting in the wings. Moving one or both might be their best but would also anger the Utah faithful who are hoping to make playoff noise. One possibility is trading Millsap and the contract of Marvin Williams (2 years for 15.79m) to get a another swingman or starting 3. The only other big names talked about as trade possibilities are in Sacramento and New Orleans. Sacramento is possibly moving to Seattle and is looking to shed salary. Rather than commit to higher priced deals with free-agents to be like Tyreke Evans, Francisco Garcia, Aaron Brooks (player option), or keep John Salmons, Marcus Thornton, or Travis Outlaw, the Kings are rumored to want to move as many as possible for lower priced contracts to make the team more attractive to buyers, whether in Seattle or Sacramento. Also just starting to be heard is that the team is already disenchanted with rookie lottery pick Thomas Robinson and wants to deal him before everyone else is too. The Hornets signed Eric Gordon to an extension but some think he is already unhappy. With Austin Rivers playing behind Gordon, the team might be able to get quite a bit for the young and talented shooting guard.

Minnesota is looking to trade Derrick Williams, feeling the only way to salvage his career is a change of scenery. They would also be interested in moving Luke Ridnour and Malcolm Lee out of their crowded backcourt situation. Dallas is hoping someone wants an expiring contract in Chris Kaman or is looking for a veteran for the stretch run in Shawn Marion and doesn't mind committing to next season for Marion as well. Golden State is willing to give away Richard Jefferson and Andres Biedrins, who are both signed for next year, if anyone will take them. The Suns, much like Minnesota, are looking to trade Wesley Johnson to a team that sees something in him still. Johnson has regularly been getting DNPs this season. Finally the Nuggets have some young talent that is blocked from playing time that they may be wiling to move. Timofy Mozgov, Anthony Randolph, and Jordan Hamilton are all coveted by certain teams as oozing with potential while riding the bench for Denver. The Nuggets would be interested in some future draft picks and possibly some veteran help in return.

It should prove an interesting run up to the trade deadline.

Pistons Fight Off Feisty Bucks, Win 113-100 Behind Monroe and Knight

In a season lost, with trade rumors swirling around both Brandon Jennings and Monta Ellis, you would not have known any turmoil existed by Milwaukee's effort. The Bucks hung with the Pistons, fighting until the end, but ultimately lost 113-100. The Bucks received 59 of their 100 points from Ellis and Jennings but not much from anyone else. For the Pistons, the story was Greg Monroe inside and Brandon Knight outside. Monroe had 30 points as the Pistons outscored Milwaukee 48-30 in the paint. Knight had 26 from a combination of outside shots and twisting drives.

Monroe added 10 rebounds and 7 assists to his 30 points. Jonas Jerebko had a season-high 17 points to go with 10 rebounds. Rodney Stuckey was also in double figures with 14. Jennings had 30 while Ellis had 29. Both added 4 assists each. No other Bucks players was in double figures. Larry Sanders did have 8 points to go with his team-high 11 rebounds.

Pistons coach Lawrence Frank said, "Solid effort tonight. I liked our inside-out game. Greg had 7 assists out of double teams. He knew when to attack, when to pop a jumper and when to move the ball. Brandon also showed great awareness. He didn't always settle for the jumper, but instead used an up-fake to get into the lane. I can't say enough about Jonas too. He always hustles and he has the capability to put up these numbers night after night."

Detroit improved to 25-27 while the Bucks fell to 17-32. Detroit now heads back home to face New Orleans on Monday night.

Knight Leads Pistons To Huge 2nd Half, 119-85 Victory Over Hornets

Brandon Knights and the Detroit Pistons trailed the New Orleans Hornets 53-49 at halftime, with Knight only having 10 points. However, Detroit blasted the Hornets 70-32 in the 2nd behind 27 points from Knight. Detroit only turned the ball over 5 times in the game and out-rebounded New Orleans 59-48. A combination of Knight and Jose Calderon helped control Hornets point Guard Greivis Vasquez , who failed to hit a field goal and had just 5 assists, half of his average of 9.9.

In addition to Knight, 6th man Rodney Stuckey had 22 points and Greg Monroe had 15 points and 12 rebounds. Andre Drummond led the team with 15 rebounds. The Hornets were led by Ryan Anderson with 17 and Anthony Davis with 16 points and 12 boards. Eric Gordon shot just 5-18 for 14 points.

Pistons coach Lawrence Frank said, "That was as good as we can play in the 2nd half. Defensively, offensively it was all there. We didn't turn the ball over a single time in the 2nd half and we played stifling D. Brandon was amazing. He hit shots, drove the lane, found his teammates. He showed the level that he is capable of playing."

Hornets guard Gordon stated, "I don't know what happened but we left our game in the locker room at half. That was embarrassing. And part of that is on me. I couldn't stop Knight. None of us could."

Detroit is now just one game under .500 at 26-27. New Orleans fell to 25-27. Detroit now waits for Washington to hit town for a Wednesday night contest.

Probable Rookie Of Year Lillard Out 4-6 Weeks

Portland Trail Blazer rookie point guard Damien Lillard has torn a ligament in his right hand and will miss 4-6 weeks. Lillard is averaging 18 points and 8.2 assists per game and even chipping in with 4.3 rebounds per game. Lillard has been the odds-on favorite to win the Rookie of the Year voting. With the injury and a recent offensive surge, Anthony Davis of the New Orleans Hornets would be the new front-runner. Davis is averaging 20.2 points and 9.9 rebounds per game but only shooting .467 as a primary inside scorer for the Hornets. Also in the race is Cleveland shooting guard Dion Waiters, averaging 18.1 per game.

Only One Blockbuster At The Trade Deadline

It was a relatively quiet day for most NBA teams. At the trade deadline only one trade involved high profile players, while many teams were content to make small moves to clear salary or add depth. Indiana and Milwaukee did swap borderline all star caliber players in Danny Granger and Brandon Jennings. The Bucks sent Jennings, the expiring contract of Samuel Dalembert, and Drew Gooden to the Pacers for Granger, George Hill, and a protected 1st round pick. The deal was contingent on Jennings agreeing to a contract extension. He signed for 2 years at 23.07 million with a player option for a third season at 12.88 million. He is still signed for the remainder of the season at 3.18 million.

The deal opens up the small forward spot for Paul George and puts Lance Stephenson into the starting lineup with Jennings in the backcourt. Milwaukee will start Hill with Monta Ellis in the backcourt with Granger joining Erasan Ilyasova and Larry Sanders in the starting frontcourt. Indiana released forward Jeff Pendergraph to make roster space for the new trio.

                                Other trades today included:

                                • Atlanta traded guard Anthony Morrow to Dallas for guard Dahntay Jones.
