Charleston Southern found their way back to .500 this evening with an easy 70-54 win over South Carolina State. The Buccaneers shot the lights out in the first half and built an overwhelming 43-19 lead heading into the break and was all they needed to cruise to the victory.

Leading the way for CSU was Sheldon Strickland with his 20 points on 8-12 shooting while connecting on 4-8 from deep. In the blowout win, Mitchell Deter was able to play a career-high 22 minutes and rewarded his coach with 9 points and 3 rebounds.

For the Bulldogs, Ashley Harris did everything he could to keep his team from being run out of the building in the second half and finished with a game-high 21 points, knocking down 6 three-pointers, and grabbed 6 rebounds. Other than Harris, South Carolina State had no real scoring threat and shot a poor 18-58 from the field.

Up next for Charleston Southern is a home game against Maryland-Eastern Shore (1-7) to hopefully rise above the .500 mark before the early signing period ends. This is a game in which a couple of recruits will be visiting to see if Charleston Southern is for them. Coach Pfeifer will hope to impress the visiting HS seniors.

Make it two straight for Charleston Southern, taking care of business at home with a 72-56 victory over struggling Maryland-Eastern Shore. It was close throughout the first half, but an 8-0 run to close the first half opened the lead up to 31-20 and the Buccaneers never looked back.

Senior small forward Kenny Mitchell continued to impress this evening as he recorded 16 points and 10 rebounds to grab another double-double. Sheldon Strickland was both scorer and provider in this game, scoring 16 points while dishing out 7 assists. Making big news before the game, Coach Pfeifer stated he would be starting freshman Darian Vargas at center over sophomore walk-on Cedrick Bowen. Vargas impressed with 8 points and 10 rebounds in his very first collegiate start. Bowen made the most of his time off the bench with 5 points and 7 rebounds in 14 minutes of play.

It was a tough shooting day for Maryland-Eastern Shore, but the did it to themselves, electing to heave up 34 three point attempts. The best performance for the Hawks came from Mark Robertson who scored 15 points on 6-11 shooting and grabbed 5 rebounds. Off the bench Mike Spence had a solid day with 6 points and 10 rebounds in just 17 minutes of action.

Up next is a visit to Georgia State (0-7) who are struggling mightily. With just 5 games left before Big South play begins, look for Coach Pfeifer to nail down his rotation with his recent change going from a 10 man rotation to just an 8 man rotation. The change came after Pfeifer took a visit to Morgantown to have lunch with Coach James Frizzell who encouraged Pfeifer to shorten his bench, allowing for the shooters to grab more minutes.

I usually roll with an eight-man rotation these days in my legacy, though it depends on how deep the team that year is. An eight-man rotation requires some careful timing with the substitutions, but it is definitely doable. I usually have one player that plays backup PG-SG, one that plays SF, and one that plays PF-C. I suppose this rotation probably could be cut down to seven with one guy subbing in for PG-SG-SF and one for PF-C, but in recent years I have had a solid backup SF that I wanted to get playing time.

          Charleston Southern Buccaneers
          Class of 2009 Early Signings

Exactly one year ago Coach Pfeifer was pacing through his office, rethinking his decision to join the college coaching ranks. He was unknown to the high school seniors and had zero pull to getting any kids to play for him. It is now one year later and Pfeifer is now one year wiser to the ways of recruiting for his university. Going into the offseason, Pfeifer had one name at the top of his recruiting board and Ronny Hedges was his name. Hedges, a 3 prospect and the #131 overall and #26 PF in the country, was on speed dial since he was a junior in high school in Atlanta, GA. The 6'7" 232 pound power forward averaged 12.5 pts and 9.1 rebounds per game while also blocking 1.8 shots per game during his time in the ABL with Crunk City and is the best freshman signed in the early signing window in the Big South which has made Pfeifer very proud as they get closer to conference play. Joining Hedges is a 6'3" 192 pound shooting guard that is unranked overall and a 2 prospect by the name of Ebi Beeler. Coming out of Savannah, GA he will join up with sophomore backup center Cedrick Bowen out of the same city. Beeler didn't have the most impressive ABL stats as he averaged just 3.6 ppg, but Coach Pfeifer knows what he's getting and doesn't expect him to fight for minutes next season. With two early season signings, Pfeifer is beginning to feel more confident in his abilities to eventually pull greater talent into Charleston Southern to help bolster a squad he thinks will eventually battle for an automatic bid one day under his tenure. Coach Pfeifer still has a couple targets he hopes to sign at season's end, but is cautiously optimistic about them.

Rough shooting night from Sexton, but good win. I agree with the reasoning for the eight man rotation, but like superjames said the timing is key. I try to run an eight man currently but only because the 9th man on aren't that great. Looks like what you're doing is working though so keep it up.

                December 12, 2008

It was another quality win on this Friday night for Charleston Southern who now improve to 6-4 after their latest 65-55 victory over Georgia State. The final score was not indicative of the game, however, as the game was within a basket or two throughout the entire game. This was a solid road win over a team that possesses a good amount of talent even though their record doesn't show it.

Another win for Charleston Southern and another standout performance for Sheldon Strickland who finished with 24 points and 7 assists as he is becoming a dangerous passer and scorer. Kenny Mitchell also had himself a night scoring 19 points while grabbing 4 rebounds. Cleaning up on the glass were the bigs Darian Vargas and Paul Gombwer. Vargas ended with 9 points and 12 rebounds, while Gombwer scored 7 points and collected 13 rebounds.

The story of the game for Georgia State was the inability of point guard Zack Goodwin to find his rhythm. Goodwin shot a miserable 2-19 from the field and an astounding 2-17 from deep. Goodwin threw up as many threes as the entire Charleston Southern team combined.

Up next for Charleston Southern is a trip into the havoc caused by Shaka Smart's VCU squad who stand at 4-2 on the season and are already 1-0 in the CAA.

I don't know if you, James, or anyone else has seen this or can help.....

Every time I go into the ROTATIONS screen it shows I have 234/200 minutes allocated and shows I have -34/200 minutes remaining. With that I constantly have to hit the Y button to get the active rotation set and have the CPU fix it automatically. I don't know why I'm getting this or if it is something I'm doing wrong, but I believe that is why I'm seeing a large amount of minutes for the bench players.

Again, I watch the CPU-CPU games, so I don't handle subs in the game whatsoever. This handcuffs me to hoping these rotations work, but after every game I see this and wonder if it affected the game at all. Any help with this is MUCH appreciated!

I have that same issue... Can you play coach mode in legacy or is that just in exhibition? If so you can handle the subs in game

I can't say I remember seeing this. Have you tried lowering the minutes of any player once in the rotation to see what happens? Or does it only give you the option to hit Y and have the CPU fix it automatically?

                        Re: Pfeifere1's Coaching Legacy (Ch2k8)

So one question I have because your box score doesn't show it is how many fouls do you starters typically end up with in a game on average? If a guy picks up 2 early fouls he will sit the entire rest of the half and if he picks up a 3rd foul then he will sit most of the 2nd half until there is less then 10 minutes left and once he get foul #4, alot of times he won't come back in until it's like 2 minutes or less.

Next question I have is why 300 minutes. On my game it says 200 and if you don't have all 200 you can have the CPU assign or fix manually.

                        I always fix manually.

Typically what I do is play a 10 man rotation, I play my starters 30 minutes which takes up 150 leaving you 50 minutes for your bench. I like my 6th man to play around 20 minutes, my 7th man play 15, my 8th guy plays 8, my 9th guy plays 7 and my 10th guy plays 5 which should give you a total of 200.

Make sure both your primary and your alternate rotation are set to the same. (I honestly don't know when or why the alternate rotation is used).

When it comes to your starters, something to look at is their foul tendency. This can be found/edit in the same section as their shot tendencies.

Most of the time when a new recruit comes it seems like the CPU likes to assign a foul tendency of 70 or higher on my PF/C which makes them play very limited minutes in sim games. I personally like to change these to 45 or less on all my starters, typically making them based off how good they are at defense. If they have a high defense rating I will put the foul tendency around 30, if they are not as good then 40-45. Typically I don't have any players higher then 50.

                        Hope this helps you.

I do recall some funky behavior from that when I used to use auto-rotations, but I've manually substituted since late in my time at Princeton (so 5-6+ years ago), so I don't really remember. I never simulate games, so I never even bother to set the minutes these days.

If I think about it, I'll try to check it in my legacy.

This is why I love the OS forums and in particular the CH2k8 community. I've only recently gotten into CH2k8 after being more into NCAA Bball 10 before, so I'm a relative newbie, meanwhile some of you guys have been playing for 7-8 years!!

I'm going to first look into making sure my alternate and primary rotations are the same...they weren't so I'm going to see if that works.

Unfortunately I don't intervene in the simulation process while watching the games (not played under coach mode), so I can't sub manually.

As for the fouls, some games I do notice Sexton with 3 fouls and I guess depending on the timing of the fouls, maybe he is sitting a ton of minutes due to "foul trouble".

All great things to look into guys! Thanks as always!
