The Coaching Legacy of Danny Carmichael (CH 2K8)

Hello all! I'm sure that most of you who have visited the basketball dynasty forum in the past 2 weeks or so have seen my Tennessee Basketball dynasty at some point. I intended for that to be a fun challenge as I would've had to replace 4 starters and 6 scholarship players... Well, one very unexpected Kentucky-esque recruiting class later, it's not really the rebuilding challenge I was hoping for.

So, after reading through the many great coaching legacies' on this forum, it made me want to start my own. I know this will be a great challenge, but more importantly a fun one. And for those who follow the Tennessee basketball dynasty, I will still continue it, but not quite as often as this legacy. :P

With that being said, I hope you all will enjoy the coaching legacy of Danny Carmichael!

    Things to Know

    1. I'm not a fan of some of the ridiculous names that this game will give players... So, I may change some. :P

    2. I had the game generate the names for the players for the start of the legacy.

    3. I will import all draft classes into NBA 2K8 and follow my coached players throughout their NBA career.

Radford Hires Carmichael as Men's Hoops Coach

RADFORD, Va. -- 2-time High School State Champion coach, Danny Carmichael, has been named head men's basketball coach at Radford.

Radford announced the hiring of Carmichael on this morning and an introductory press conference will be held at 3:00 P.M.

Carmichael took over a High School boy's program that won just 4 games the year prior to his arrival, and turned them into a team that won 2 straight State Tournaments, which is the biggest recorded turn around in United States High School basketball history.

Carmichael is inheriting a Radford team that went just 8-22 last year.

              Danny Carmichael Introductory Press Conference

AD Robert Lineburg: "We are very, very fortunate today to announce the hiring of what we think is an absolute hidden gem of a basketball coach, Danny Carmichael. For those who don't know, Danny Carmichael took over a high school basketball program that won 4 games the year before he got there. His only two years, they won the state championship, and they looked like a totally different team. We're hoping that Coach Carmichael can do the same for this Radford Highlander program. So, without further adieu, please help me in welcoming our newest basketball coach... Danny Carmichael."

Coach Carmichael: "Wow, first of all I'd just like to thank AD Lineburg and just everyone in helping this dream of mine become a reality. When I was a kid, I dreamed of being a Division 1 College Basketball coach... And if you asked me two years ago if I thought I'd be a head coach at a great school like Radford at the age of 25, I probably would've laughed... And then told you to run suicides. But, this really is an honor, and I can't be more appreciative of the opportunity."

Coach Carmichael on the style of basketball his team will play

Coach Carmichael: "I know this will be asked, so I will beat you all to it. We will play an exciting brand of basketball. We will be relentless on the defensive side of the ball. We will press and trap the opposing team all 94 feet, hoping to create turnovers which turn into fast break points. On offense, we will run a motion offense with lots of ball screens trying to get any open shot we can get."

              Coach Carmichael on Recruiting

Coach Carmichael: "My staff and I are going to be relentless recruiters. We are going to try and recruit the best possible players we can get. We want kids who first and foremost love the game of basketball. If you don't love basketball, it shows in your effort and how you play. Secondly, we are going to recruit to our system. Lastly, we are going to recruit individuals who we think can develop into all-conference players for us and just give us the best chance to win ball games."

              Coach Carmichael's Closing Remarks

Coach Carmichael: "Once again, I would just like to reiterate how honored and privileged I am to be YOUR head basketball coach. And I will make one promise to you... I WILL do everything in my power to get this Radford basketball program to compete for championships year in and year out. Thank you and go Highlanders!"

Good luck! Looks like you've got a (relatively) good young point guard to build with going forward.

Thanks!! I just wish I had a backup PG lol.

                        Recruiting Update: November 5, 2007

Since it's now we're now beginning Week 3 in the season and Radford hasn't played Michigan yet, I just wanted to show everyone the top 5 players on my recruiting board real fast... I will post another update once it changes more.

                        1. 2* PG Will Edwards- Radford desperately needs a backup PG and I think Edwards will be the perfect complement to Garnett, whose offensive game is slightly limited. In ABL play Edwards started all 8 games and averaged 10.5 PPG, 4.8 APG, 1.1 SPG. This is the stat that makes him the #1 player on my board. He shot 11/18 for .611% from behind the 3-point arc. Then, he shot 30/59 for a FG% of .508. Edwards can REALLY shoot the ball.

                        2. 2* PF Kennedy Houston- I'd like some more depth, if not an upgrade to my 6'6" starting PF Drake Conn. Houston started all 8 games in the ABL and averaged 11.3 PPG, 10.5 RPG, 1.5 SPG, and had a FG% of .467.

                        3. 3* JUCO C Bud Mann- The Centers on this team are just bad... And two of them are graduating. Bud Mann is 7'0", 231 lbs. and seems athletic enough to play the style of basketball Carmichael runs.

                        4. 2* SF Johnathen Byerson- I wanted to recruit a SF in this class, because my starting SF is a Junior and the backup is not good. Byerson is 6'6" 221 lbs and can also really shoot the ball. In the ABL he started all 8 games and averaged 12.5 PPG and 4.0 RPG. His FG% was .575% and he made 16 out of 29 attempted 3's for a percentage of .551%/

                        5. 2* PF Rashun Houston- Houston almost averaged a double double in the 8 ABL games he started. He averaged 9.8 PPG and 9.0 RPG. He also has interest from North Texas and TCU. So, this may be a bit of a long shot.

Did you actually play the ABL games and play with each of these players. Also are any of these 2* guy's actually rated? I know you where playing NCAA, so I am not sure how familiar you are with CH2K8, but 2* recruits will typically come in with a Overall rating less then 65, which won't make them much better then the guy's on your team.

I personally would be looking for 3* guy's who don't get any scholarship offers during in-season recruiting.

I played a game or so with all those guys, and really liked how well they played. All the 2* guys are rated. But, I will try looking for 3* guys who don't have scholarship offers cause there has to be some lol. Thanks for the tips though!

November 9, 2007: Radford vs. Michigan

Ann Arbor, MI -- I'm not sure anyone in the country saw this coming. In the first game under new head coach Danny Carmichael, the Radford Highlanders knocked off the Michigan Wolverines on the road 67-58.

In his press conference, Coach Carmichael talked about how his teams would play a very aggressive style of defense, in which he has called it "Mayhem". Well, Coach Carmichael's "Mayhem" defense did not disappoint in ANY way. The Highlanders forced 25 turnovers and 14 of those turnovers were steals.

Radford was led by Sophomore PG Frederick Garnett who finished with a game high 17 points and 8 steals! Starting SG Aaron Dupre chipped in 15 points. Then, Backup C James O'Hanon had a great game off the bench as he scored 11 points in 26 minutes of playing time and was a big factor in Michigan's Center, Ajay Cesar, shooting 0-9 from the field.

Michigan was led by PF Drew Wilmont who got a double double by finishing with 13 points and 13 rebounds. PG Josiah Holmes led the Wolverines in scoring as he put up 15 points on 5 of 8 shooting. Starting Freshman SG Cornell King had a good performance in his first collegiate game, as he scored 14 points on 3 of 6 shooting, but made 7 of 9 free throws.

Radford will now travel back home to face the Northern Colorado Bears in their home opener.
