Re: The Coaching Legacy of Danny Carmichael (CH 2K8)
November 22, 2008: Radford vs. Jacksonville
Thanks to a buzzer beating 3 by Freshman Sammy Coleman, Radford defeats Jacksonville on the road 70-67.
This was a great all around game. It went back and forth throughout the entire game. But, with 1:21 left, Radford had a 67-62 lead. Jacksonville had the ball, and after coming off a screen, Freshman SG Duane Pardon drained a 3 to make it a 2 point game with 1:01 left. Radford turned the ball over on a bad pass by PG Fredrick Coleman and Jacksonville took possession with 51 seconds left. With 22 seconds left, Senior PF Hugh Freeman made a layup to tie the game at 67-67.
Radford coach Danny Carmichael called a time out and in his post game press conference said Freshman SG Sammy Coleman kept telling him to give him the ball. So Carmichael did.
On the inbounds the ball went to Garnett, who swung the ball over to Snow, who passed it to Coleman. Coleman went off a ball screen set by PF Cordell Darden, and drained a 3 pointer as time expired to give Radford the win!
Coach Carmichael on Coleman's shot: "When kids are THAT confident in their ability, 9 times out of 10 the shot will fall. So, we drew up a play for Sammy, and he nailed the shot."

December 1, 2008: Radford vs. Lipscomb
Radford defeats Lipscomb for the second time this year, in a low scoring game by a final score of 58-54.
It was a pretty balanced attack by the Highlanders all night. But, Radford was led by Captain Redshirt Senior T.J. Gouard who came off the bench and scored 12 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Junior PG Fredrick Garnett chipped in 9 points of his own. Freshman SF Landon Snow had a very nice game and a clutch second half as he finished just short of a double double with 9 points and 8 boards. Besides Gouard, Garnett, and Snow, no other Highlander player scored over 7 points.
Lipscomb on the other hand only had 2 players score over 5 points. The Bisons were led by Sophomore Treg Mencio who had a game high 17 points and 8 rebounds, but also had a game high in turnovers with 7. Sophomore PG Jarred Mullins scored 11 points and dished out 4 assists. What was the deciding factor in the game were the 23 turnovers that the Bisons committed throughout the game.

December 6, 2008: Kennesaw State vs. Radford
A big 7 minute scoreless drought in the 2nd half by Kennesaw State doomed the Owls as they ended up blowing a halftime lead and losing 73-64.
Radford was led by Junior PG Fredrick Garnett who scored 14 points and also had 4 steals. Senior SG Aaron Dupre continues to show why he's the Highlanders' sharpshooter as he scored 14 points on 5 of 6 shooting from the field and 2 of 3 from behind the 3 point arc. Freshman PG Sammy Coleman chipped in 10 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. While Freshman SF Landon Snow scored 10 points and grabbed 7 boards.
Kennesaw State was led by Sophomore PF Monwell Garlepp who scored 10 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Redshirt Senior SG Elgrace Bradshaw scored 10 points and grabbed 7 rebounds of his own. Starting Freshman PG Jabari North chipped in 9 points and dished out 4 assists.

Recruiting Update: December 7, 2008
Today was the last day high school players could sign their Letters of Intent to the school they decided to sign with.
Radford escaped with a lot of players still on their recruiting board... But, they did miss on 3 players.
3* PG Jonathan McLaren from Brooklyn, New York decided to sign with Rutgers.
3* PF Darius Woodward from Manchester, New Hampshire decided to sign with Massachusetts
3* SF Jonanthan Carlisle from Stockton, California decided to sign with San Jose State
With those 3 signing elsewhere, here is a look at the current recruiting board for the Radford Highlanders.

Re: The Coaching Legacy of Danny Carmichael (CH 2K8)
I personally am a big fan of creating what works for you. I was very happy when they offered us box scores, and Top-25 templates and all the good stuff that guy's use and I did use them to at first, but then I found that alot of times it took me longer to put all the info in the tables then what I felt it was worth.
I like that everyone's legacies and threads are a bit different. For me Writeup's don't have to have every little detail, but it's nice to read about maybe a big shot that helped give you the lead at the buzzer or a big defensive stop that led to the win, whatever the case may be. Just looking at a box score or even worse just the score itself, doesn't allow me to get invested in the legacy, because all I know is so and so play 32 minutes and had 12 points or oh look he beat that team by 20 points and he was up by 2 points at half time.
However I will say over the course of all my threads and legacies, I have found that for me to stay focused and stay committed to posting, I have also learned it's okay for me personally not to post every game, I like to do weekly recaps, posting the scores, a few sentences on the games, who the top scorer's where but sometimes go a little deeper with what's going on with the rest of the conference and other teams around the league. I like to mix things up so each post doesn't always look exactly like the one before it and the one after it.Comment

December 13, 2008: Radford vs. #1 Connecticut
The #1 Huskies dominated the Highlanders for an easy 82-63 win.
Radford was led by Freshman PF Cordell Darden who was 1 rebound shy of his first collegiate double double by scoring 14 points and grabbing 9 rebounds. Senior SG Aaron Dupre scored 13 points off the bench. Junior C Bud Mann had a solid game as he chipped in 7 points, grabbed 5 rebounds, and had 3 steals and 3 blocks. Junior PG Fredrick Garnett was injured during the game and will be out for 32 days, which is a huge loss for the Highlanders.
Connecticut was led by probable NCAA Player of the Year candidate PF Jameel Byerson who scored a game high 29 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Senior SF Anand Meredith scored 12 points on 5 of 7 shooting. Redshirt Senior PG Leon Akins had a great all around game. Akins finished with 9 points, 10 assists, and 5 steals.

Trying to beat the #1 team in the country especially a school that is named UConn and that is undefeated is always a tough task. However going after that attribute point is always fun. Took my 7 seasons in my current legacy to finally earn it and that was beating #1 USC after they had already beaten me twice earlier in the season.

December 15, 2008: Radford vs. Drexel
Radford storms back late in the 2nd half and upsets Drexel on the road, 77-75.
Drexel had a 7 point lead going into halftime, but Radford used a 7-0 run with 5 minutes left in the 2nd half to tie the game back up. The game would then go back and forth and finally came down to the final possession for both teams.
Radford scored with 14 seconds left as C Bud Mann had a huge mismatch down in the post, as Drexel SG M.C. Hornsby was defending him. Mann easily backed Hornsby really close to the basket and scored an easy hook shot. Drexel was out of timeouts so they raced back down the court to get one final shot. Senior PG Marques Scott took the final shot for Drexel as he drove in for the layup, but had it blocked by... guess who. Bud Mann! Because of Bud Mann's last second heroics, the Highlanders knocked off the Dragons on the road!
Radford was led by by Senior SG Dave Torbert who now has an increased role with the injury of Fredrick Garnett. Torbert finished with a team high 14 points. Backup PF Drake Conn finished with 12 points and 7 rebounds. Junior C Bud Mann finished with 12 points and 6 rebounds, including the game winning basket and game saving block. Senior SG Aaron Dupre who is now in the starting lineup, chipped in 11 points and shot 2 of 3 from behind the 3 point arc.
Drexel was led by Senior PG Marques Scott who finished with a game high 17 points along with 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Sophomore SG Lester Blalock came off the bench and scored 14 points in 27 minutes. Freshman SF Lukasz Christie (playing PF), came close to a double double as he scored 11 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Redshirt Junior PF Johnny Dickerson chipped in 11 points of his own.

December 17, 2008: St. John's vs. Radford
Late Radford run isn't enough, as St. John's holds on for the 61-60 win on the road.
St. John's jumped out to the early lead and kept it throughout the first half and led at halftime 32-23. Radford made small runs here and there to catch back up. With a minute left St. John's had a 59-58 lead. Radford scored with 54 seconds left on a dunk by PF Cordell Darden to give the Highlanders the late 60-59 lead. But, once St. John's got the ball, they scored with 31 seconds left as a great screen set up an easy, open jumper for Senior SF Dwayne Souffrant to give St. John's the lead again 61-60. Radford called a timeout, and inbounded the ball into PG Sammy Coleman. The Highlanders ran a quick play before SG Aaron Dupre took the final shot, on a free throw line jumper and it rimmed out.
So, St. John's escaped with a 61-60 win.
Radford was led by Freshman PF Cordell Darden who recorded his first collegiate double double by scoring 14 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Darden also got 3 steals in the game. Junior C Bud Mann finished with 13 points on 6 of 9 shooting. Freshman PG Sammy Coleman had a solid offensive game as he chipped in 10 points and dished out 7 assists. Undersized PF Drake Conn came off the bench to chip in 11 points of his own in just 19 minutes of playing time.
St. John's was led by Senior SF who notched a double double by scoring 11 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. Sophomore PF Robin Bitee scored a game high 17 points and also grabbed 6 rebounds. The one thing that really gave St. John's the advantage was the free throw shooting. They made 75% of their free throws compared to Radford's 46%.

Re: The Coaching Legacy of Danny Carmichael (CH 2K8)
December 26, 2008: Navy vs. Radford
Radford moves onto the Championship game in this low scoring game, winning by a final score of 58-49.
Radford was led by a trio of Freshmen! Freshman PF Cordell Darden who finished with a team high 13 points on 6 of 14 shooting. Freshman PG Sammy Coleman had a very solid offensive game as he finished with 12 points and 4 assists. Coleman was 3 of 4 shooting and 3 of 3 shooting from behind the 3 point arc. Freshman SF Landon Snow had 11 points on 4 of 8 ahooting, as well as 5 rebounds.
Navy was led by Senior SF Chey Keller who finished with a game high 16 points on 5 of 12 shooting.. Keller was the only Navy player with more than 5 points. The real downfall for Navy was the fact that they shot 19% in the 2nd half of the game. They also went on a 7 minute scoreless drought in the 2nd half which is when Radford got their biggest lead of the game (at that time), which was 7 points.
