I have gotten very lucky This team is playing so much better then their ratings and having K-State lose their #1 scorer to foul issues, then Butler beating Tennessee has really paved the way for me to squeak out some close cames.

The rematch has been played, most likely will get it up tonight.

      SWEET SWEET REVENGE!!!

As soon as Coach Ryan knew that #3 Arizona State had beaten #6 La Salle and would be the team his Broncos would face in the Sweet 16 matchup, he had his staff pull up the footage of the Dec 10th matchup vs the Sun Devils and called his team in for a game film session.

For the next 2 hours the Broncos watched and rewound play after play as ASU scores basket after basket. Down by 20 at the half (41-21) the Broncos had no chance of a 2nd half comeback. The 32 point loss still was very fresh in the Coach Ryan's mind and he wanted his team to feel it too.

ASU made 13 of 28 from 3pt. A stat everyone in the room knew needed to change. The Broncos had turned over the basketball 25 times another # that couldn't happen again if they wanted any chance at a Elite 8 spot. 4 player's in double digits led by B. Dux. Coach Ryan knew they had little chance of stopping the talented JR SG (18.4 PPG on the season), but everyone agreed that if they could stop the rest of the team from contributing, Dux wasn't good enough to beat them on his own.

After 4 days of rest the Broncos were ready to continue their Dance at the Ball. Their glass slippers had some thread still on them. BSU would win the tip and score the opening bucket. ASU would miss their first attempt. BSU answered with another bucket and then another. Trailing 6-0 Dux would finally put the Sun Devils on the scoreboard with his first of 10 points scored in the 1st half, but with little other support Boise State would go have the lead going into the locker room (37-36).

Could the 1 point lead hold and if so for now long. The Answer.... A entire half. Boise State would never give up that 1 point lead and with less then 2 minutes to play the lead with go to 3.. Then with 32 seconds to play a pair of F.T's Wilkins would make it 5. A missed 3pt attempt to cut it to a basket would fall short, but ASU would get the rebound and again dish it outside for another desperation shot. Again the ball would fail to find it's target. FINAL SCORE BSU-73 ASU-68

      KEY PLAYERS
      B. Dux would lead all scorers with 22 points, but no other Sun Devil would hit double digits.

For Boise State, SG Bud Wilkins would be named POG. The JR SG connected on 4/8 from downtown as he scored a team high 18 points.

Freshman Khalif Stafford continued to impress fan's getting a glimpse of him for the first time as he scored 17 points and grabbed 9 rebounds well adding 3 more blocks to his tournament totals.

SO Jamie Fischer continued to showcase his skills as one of the best 6th man in the nation added 16 points 8 rebounds and dishing out 3 assists.

25 wins and a trip to the Elite 8. Coach Ryan's story wasn't over yet.

8 REMAIN IN ON GLORY ROAD AS THE TEAM'S PREPARE TO HEAD TO INDY!!

The results were in #6 Ohio State survives a buzzer beater to pull of the (76-74) win over #10 Florida.

Fellow #7 Oklahoma State's 5 point 1st half lead holds up as they knock off #6 Louisville (83-76).

#5 Kentucky's tough defense shuts down #8 UConn in a snooze fest (62-46)

4 teams were in... The top seeds were now playing. Who would Boise State face?? Would it be #1 Cincinnati the Big East Champ or would it be #5 Memphis who was looking for their 4th Final 4 appearance.

The Tigers would answer the question quickly. Coming off a 100 point performance over their CUSA rivals Southern Miss, Memphis continued firing on all cylinders as the Tigers took a 15 point lead into the half (57-42) and the foot never left the gas pedal in the 2nd half as they again pass the century mark in a 29 point win (102-73).

The Tigers were led by JR Z. Arline as 6'4 PG out of Chicago Illinois. Arline would just miss recording a triple double as he scores a team high 24 points and dishes out 10 assists well grabbing 8 rebounds. Well his stats were impressive. It wasn't what worried Coach Ryan most.

The Tigers got 53 points from their bench including 40 from 2 players. SO PG R. Atkinson (21 pts) and SR PG D. Eisentrout (19 pts) both connect on 5/7 from deep as the team combined for a total of 16 of 28 from beyond the arc.

Could Boise State slow down this potent attack? Stay tune to find out..

With the Memphis/Boise State matchup set. The nation turned their attention to #1 USC who figured out away to slow down a Indiana team that averaged 112 PPG in their first 2 games. The Hoosiers manage just 63 including just 21 in the 1st half as the Trojans hold onto their 19 point lead to win (70-63)

A #1 USC vs #6 OSU matchup looks like something you would normally see on a football field and not the hardwood.

#1 Maryland was next to join the rank of Elite. As the Terp's make a 2nd half comeback to beat #4 Charlotte (82-74) to advance to face #7 Oklahoma State.

A Duke vs Kentucky matchup was what most fan's wanted to see, but Wisconsin would disappoint as they dominated Duke from start to finish, leading (47-33) at the half, the Badgers cruised with a 20 point victory (93-73), setting up a matchup with #5 Kentucky.

          THE CLOCK STRIKES 12!!!

Trailing 69-32 at the half, Coach Ryan knew the Dance was over for his team. He congratulated his players and told them to hold their heads high. For Seniors PG L. Andrew and SF A. Bowman this next half would be the last of their college careers and most likely their basketball careers as neither player had the skills for the NBA.

Despite only 2 points in the 1st half, Bowman was a man on a mission to finish strong as he scores 12 points in the 2nd half well also adding 6 boards. Andrew also stepped up in his final 13 minutes as he dished out 5 of his team high 7 assists and came up with a team leading 3 steals all in the 2nd half.

Down by 37, the Broncos would match the Tigers point for point in the 2nd half (41-41) FINAL SCORE MEMPHIS-110 BOISE STATE-73

          KEY PLAYERS

6 players scored in double digits for Memphis as the Tigers hit 14 of 27 from deep. S. McMillian and R. Atkinson led the way with 18 points each, well Z. Arline added 12 pts 5 rebs and 8 assits.

For Boise it was J. Fischer once again leading the team in scoring (17) and rebounds (8). K. Stafford also had a solid game in the loss with 13 points 7 rebounds and 2 blks. as they join Bowman in double digits.

          Coach Ryan
"Well I am disappointed in how it ended, I am still super proud of this team, and our accomplishments this season are going to be the foundation of how I build this program. Recruits are taking notice that Boise State isn't just a football school. I expect big things this off-season and am excited for what next season brings."

            AND THEN THERE WAS 4!!

USC's 3pt in final seconds secure's them the win. Leading (43-29) at the half the Trojans took their foot off the pedal, and the Buckeyes responded outscoring USC by 11 in the 2nd half. Despite only having made 4/15 from beyond the arc as a team, USC had no problem taking the winning shot from beyond the arc to secure their spot next to Memphis. Final score USC-72 OSU-69

With #1 USC in, #1 Maryland wouldn't be denied. The Terps used a balance scoring attack that saw 6 players score in double digits as Maryland dominates from start to finish. Final Score Maryland-93 Oklahoma State-76

Wisconsin holds onto 1st half lead to send Kentucky packing. The Badgers led (39-30) at the half and that lead was what it would take as Kentucky battled back in the 2nd half to make it a game, but in the end it just wasn't enough. Final Score Wisconsin-71 Kentucky-66

A tough loss but quite the Cinderella run from Boise State. Stafford looks like he’s going to be a good one for four years to build around.

He is super solid, but I am even more excited about the recruiting class I just landed and what the next 4 years will look like, cause next season I will have 7 scholarships to hand out which will be used to really build up the depth/bench.

Tough way to end the season, but what a season! That experience is going to be invaluable to the team and the program going forward.

Disappointed Florida lost, happy to see OSU lose (revenge!). That Final Four is LOADED. Hard to pick a winner.
                  Any comments are welcome.

Well my hope is Memphis cause it's always nice to lose the team that ends up winning it all.

I will sim out the remainder of the tourney and hopefully get up a End of the year recap tonight or maybe tomorrow. I want to be ready to start posting next year's games Friday on my day off

                      MEMPHIS CUTS DOWN THE NETS!!

The Memphis Tigers failed to win the 2010 National Championship game in real life, but were rewarded it in College Hoops 2k8.

In the Final 4 matchup with USC, the Tigers managed to surpass the century mark for the 4th straight game as they demolished the Trojans 106-74, as they spoil the matchup of #1's.

Maryland did their part as they took out #2 Wisconin (88-76), but came up short in the Championship game despite a 5 point lead at the half (48-43).

The Terps would score just 28 points in the 2nd half, well the Tigers didn't get 100, they did manage the most important basket of the game. The winning one.Final score Memphis-79 Maryland-76

The Tigers backcourt of Z. Arline (20 pts 8 assist) and S. McMillion (20 pts) was the deciding factor.

With a National Title in hand, Arline only a Junior announced he was leaving the school for the NBA draft.

USC's Head Coach (T. Floyd) was named the Coach of the Year after guiding the Trojans to the #1 seed and a Final 4 appearance.

Khalif Stafford is named the National FOY and the WAC FOY after finishing the season averaging 13.5 PPG, 7.5 RPG and 1.5 BPG.HE was also named to the Freshman All-American team, as well as 2nd Team-All-WAC and Freshman All-WAC

Coach Deuce Ryan was named the WAC Coach of the Year after guiding the Broncos to their best season in school history with 25 wins and a trip to the Elite 8. For his career Coach Ryan is 65-34 and has coached his team to a NIT, 1st Round appearance and now Elite 8.

                        RECRUITING

Boise State lands the #3 Class in the nation as Coach Ryan hauls in 3 Recruits in the Nation's Top-36 including 5* AA 6'1 PG Cherokee Humphrey (#12/#5 PG) out of Sante Fe NM. Parks finished last season playing for the 4x4's in the ABL summer league averaging 15.0 PPG,5.1 RPG, 6.8 APG, 1.5 SPG well shooting 29% from 3pt. He was also New Mexico's Mr BB

Joining Humphrey in the starting backcourt next season will be fellow Mr BB Coy Borges a 6'2 SG from Billings Montana. Rated a 4* and #36 Overall/#18 SG, Borges played for the Flow in the ABL averaging 13.1 PPG, 3.4 RPG, 2.9 APG, 2.4 SPG well shooting 41% from 3pt.

Well Humphrey and Borges look to make a deadly backcourt duo, the player Coach Ryan is most excited about is his 3rd player who signed last in the recruiting process after failing to secure scholarship offers from Midwest and East coast schools.

6'7 SF Regis Perkins is a 4* Ranked #27 Overall and the #2 SF in the nation out of Cleveland Ohio. Perkins dominated in the ABL playing for the Nationals, averaging 14.1 PPG, 7.9 RPG, 1.4 APG, 1.8 SPG, 1.4 BPG well shooting 50% from 3pt (10/20).

                        Coach Ryan
Obviously this recruiting class is by far more amazing then I could've ever imagined. We knew going into the 1st day of signing that Humphrey and Borges were committed, and well we would've liked to sign another guard for depth, we could pass up the opportunity to get Perkins. This kid is a stud and honestly could be the best player on the team next season. He is every coaches dream. He can be a big 2, a quality 3/D 3 or a stretch 4 at the college level. I can't wait to get these guy's on the court
Well Boise State shocked the nation with the #3 class, it was a case of the rich getting richer with the rest of the Top-5.

Duke took home #1 honors landing 3-5* AA and a Top-50 4* prospect.

UNC despite not making the NCAA tournament landed 3-5* AA's as well as a 3* and 2* prospect.

USC coming off a #1 seed and Final 4 appearance reloads with the #4 class (1-5* AA, 3-4*, 1-3*)

Louisville rounds out the Top-5 signing 1-5* Mr BB and 4-4*

Utah is #6 as they bring in a 5* AA Mr BB along with 3-4* (2 more Mr BB's) and 1-3*

NC State,Clemson,Marquette,Alabama round out the Top-10

                        (Memphis was #14)

                        COACHING CHANGES

The biggest news was the retirement of Jim Calhoun at UConn. Rumors were the Huskies were going to stay in house and hire/promote former player Kevin Ollie, but instead they shocked the nation from East Coast to West Coast as they announced the hiring of Gonzaga's Mark Few.

The question now is how long will Gonzaga hold onto their title as the nation's best Mid-Major, as the Zag's hire IUPUI's Ron Hunter to take over the program.

Oregon State is making another change in just 3 seasons as they fire their head coach naming Southern Illinois Chris Lowery as their new man in charge.

SIU moved quickly hiring Kevin Miller away from Davidson.

How the hell are you able to pull in recruits like that at Boise State?!? At SMU in my dynasty I'm in season 10, my coach has an A+ charisma and while I did a great job recruiting at St. John's in the Big East, I'm nowhere near as effective recruiting in the C-USA with my team.

Coach Ryan is currently a B+ in Charisma, but I do have an assistant that is a A.

So I got lucky with Humphrey, cause I started the season #8 on his list, but one I offered a scholarship I quickly moved to #3 behind UCLA and Arizona, but neither school was offering a scholarship. I knew as soon as one of them did, it was over for me, but they didn't and I by mid season I was #1 and had him at 100%.

With Borges it I actually started #2 and jumped to #1 as soon as I offered a scholarship. I was actually surprised I didn't get him in-season as he was 98% committed, but like Humphrey he was 100% ready to sign on the 1st day.

Perkins was the steal of the recruiting season. I love SF's that can shoot from beyond the arc and his 50% in ABL made me believe that he could do that.

I made him my #1 target as soon as in-season recruiting ended because he had no scholarship offers. He has Marquette as his #1 school and a couple other midwest Mid-Majors, but as soon as I visited him once, I moved up to #4 on this list and rolling the dice before any other scouting visits, I offered a scholarship and moved to #2 behind Marquette. So then it just became a waiting game. Again I knew if Marquette offered, I was done and I also figured if any power conference teams jumped in late with a offer, I would most likely get passed, but again I got lucky and nobody did, which is awesome cause he comes in as a 80 Overall with 75 3pt shooting.

I almost didn't offer Perkins a scholarship cause my depth behind Humphrey and Borges is basically SG Bud Wilkins a 66 Overall with a 85 3pt rating that did pretty well starting this year, but again I got super lucky as I also landed the a 3* PG/SG from Hawaii as a walkon. He was Hawaii's Mr BB, but for some reason didn't get a scholarship offer. He is only like a 68 Overall, with a 68 3pt rating, but he is going to see plenty of time early on in the season and could earn a bigger role if anyone gets hurt.

My best suggestion and what I found pretty much to be true no matter where I am at even when I was at power conference schools in past legacies. Once another school offers a scholarship, move on and don't waste recruiting points in trying to get them to make you #1. Instead look for players who are overlooked and don't have offers. The only time I will stay with a recruit and get into a head to head battle with another school is 1) that player has to be viewed as a gamer changer for my program. 2) He is the instate Mr BB, 3) the school I am going up against is a rival.

I have coached at SMU before and built them into a power, actually beating Texas,Texas Tech, TAMU and Baylor for alot of instate kids. That's were I would focus. Build your program from within. Also look for Mr BB's from smaller states around you.

                              2010-2011 TOP-25 PREVIEW

The 2010-2011 Top-25 Preseason Poll was released today and the biggest news wasn't who was in the poll but who wasn't.

The defending National Champions (Memphis/87 Overall) were hit hard with graduations and players declaring early, leaving just 1 returning starter in lone SR SF Pablo Hacker (83), but the roster isn't bare, as Coach Cal reloaded with 6 SO's including starting SG D. Ball (82) and Center S. Benson (75).

Memphis wasn't the only non-power conference team missing from the Top-25 as Gonzaga (85 Overall) also has found a no-vacancy sign. In fact the only non power conference team's to find a spot in the Top-25 are UNLV (90 Overall) at #15 and Charlotte (83 Overall) at #25

Here is a look at the entire Top-25

Coach Ryan's take on the Top-25 rankings
"Obviously I am disappointed in the lack of respect you get when your not in the Pac-10,Big Ten, Big East, ACC or SEC, but it's to be expect I guess. I am surprised that the Big 12 only got 1 school in. Kansas,Kansas State,Texas,TAMU and Oklahoma all have great programs that all have spent time in the poll at some point last season"
Coach Ryan's take on who could win it all.
"This should be a great year of college basketball. 3 of last year's Final 4 teams start the year in the Top-10. However my pick is #9 Cincinnati. The Bearcats were a #1 seed last year and return 7 Seniors from the squad including the entire starting 5"

                                BOISE STATE TEAM REPORT

Coming off their best record in school history (25 wins) and their best showing in the NCAA tournament (Elite 8) the returning Broncos along with the #3 Recruiting Class in the nation are picked to finally win the WAC Conference.

After playing most of the season with just 9 players suited up with JR SF A. Bennett out, Coach Ryan will enter this season with 12 players on his roster. However just because he has 12 doesn't mean all 12 will see time in the same game, as Coach Ryan has become accustom to running a 8 man rotation.

                                Starting 5.

                                PG-6'1 FR Cherokee Humphrey (78 Overall/74 3pt/85 Pass/85 Hand/89 Spd)
"The former 5* AA Mr BB from Santa Fe, New Mexico is considered to be the Conference's "Best Playmaker" and should be a major upgrade over last year's starter L. Andrew"

                                SG-6'2 FR Coy Borges (75 Overall/85 3pt)
"The former 4* Mr BB from Billings Montana will take over the starting SG spot as Coach Ryan looks to have Humphrey and Borges play together for the next 4 year's. He is the team's highest rated 3PT shooter"

                                SF-6'7 FR Regis Perkins (80 Overall/74 3PT/85 SPD/84 QCK)
"Perkins is picked to win WAC FOY and with his skill set, I wouldn't be shocked if he follows in Stafford's shoes and win's the National FOY as well. This former 4* comes in as the teams highest overall player"

                                PF-6'11 SR Toree Moreno (70 Overall/90 Close)
"The former 3* JC transfer, started all 34 games for the Broncos last season averaging 10.5 PPG,2.7 RPG,1.0 SPG, 1.6 BPG well shooting 56% FG.

                                C-6'11 SO Khalif Stafford (79 Overall/94 Close/73 Blk, 80 OREB,88 DREB)
"The reigning National FOY and WAC FOY will look to improve on a very solid season averaging 13.5 PPG, 7.5 RPG and 1.5 BPG starting all 34 games as a freshman"

                                The Rotation 3

                                Guard-6'6 SR Bud Wilkins (66 Overall/83 3PT)
"Wilkins started all 34 games at SG last year averaging 9.9 PPG well connecting on 61/153 from downtown (.398%). This season he will move to a reserve role and most likely be someone on the floor when the team needs a shot from deep"

                                Forward-6'6 JR Anthony Bennett (72 Overall/71 3pt)
"Bennett originally started the season as a starter playing in the teams first 22 games before missing the final 12 including the NCAA tournament. He most likely would've started this season had the Broncos not signed A. Perkins . For his career in 54 starts he has averaged 6.2 PPG,5.3 RPG, 1.1 SPG and 1.3 BPG"

                                Center-6'10 JR Jamie Fischer (69 Overall/82 Close/83 DREB)
"Fischer was a surprise last season coming off the bench and leading the team in scoring at 14.0 PPG, well also grabbing 5.5 RPG and 1.4 APG as the team's 6th man."

                                The Reserves

                                Guard-6'4 FR Tomas Kale (69 Overall/63 3PT,75 MED)
"Former 3* Mr BB from Honolulu Hawaii that is a "Walkon", he will look to carve out some minutes, but because he doesn't have a decent 3pt shot, he will most likely never be more then a reserve player"

                                Guard-6'5 SO Mathew Kouyate (57 Overall/69 3PT)
"Koyate was a walkon last season and saw action in all 34 games averaging 2.2 PPG and 1.0 APG"

                                Forward-6'8 RS SR Chadd Hannan (62 Overall/67 3PT)

"Hannan saw action in all 34 games last season having a career year averaging 4.3 PPG,2.0 RPG. He also hit 11/28 from 3PT (.392%)"

Center-6'10 RS SR Wade Banjo (62 Overall/86 Close)
"Banjo like Hannan and Kouyate, saw action in all 34 games last season also having a career year off the bench averaging 5.6 PPG and 2.5 RPG"

"I think we have a very tough schedule this year but also alot of winnable games. Getting Gonzaga to come to Boise and open the year was huge. Getting to play #8 Oregon on a neutral sight before playing them in Euguene will be to our advantage as I feel really good about our chances of coming away with a big road win. #15 UNLV will be a huge test for our team, they are really good. I also expect Utah to be a very tough road game as well as our rematch with #20 Washington. I feel a rivalry starting with the Huskies. I am also really excited to bring Oregon State to Taco Bell. Even though they have a new coach and a very young team, beating a Pac-10 opponent at home is something that looks great on the resume and is a big boost to the fans as well. 15 non-conference games plus 16 conference games will hopefully could be alot to ask of a pretty young team, but I feel good about our chances of winning the WAC and making a return trip to the Dance"
