    BRONCOS STAY PERFECT AT HOME!!

    GAME RECAP

Returning home after back to back road loss's, the Broncos squared off against (6-2) Oregon State as they looked to defend their own 4 game home winning streak.

The Beavers playing for their 3rd coach in 5 seasons (Fired their coach after Year1, then again after Year 3), came into the game lead by a pair of Seniors (SG J. Beeler-16.5 PPG, and SF L. Watkins-14.8 PPG), but it was the matchup of 7'2 FR C. Bozeman vs 6'11 SO K. Stafford that had everyone's attention.

Stafford would dominate the bigman despite giving up 3 inches, as Bozeman found himself heading to the bench with 2 early fouls. With their bigman on the bench Beller and Watkins would step up and do what they have done all year though helping keep the Beavers in the game with only a buzzer beating bucket by Perkins being the difference going into the 2nd half (40-38).

Bozeman's inexperience would continue in the 2nd half as the bigman picks up foul #3 in the first minute of the 2nd half. With Bozeman out, Stafford would take over as he scores 12 of his team high 23 points. Stafford wasn't the only one to take advantage of the mismatch down low, as 6th man J. Fischer comes off the bench to score 10 of his 16 point in the 2nd half as Boise State comes out on top.FINAL SCORE BSU-83 OSU-75

    KEY PLAYERS
Stafford takes POG honors with his 23 points and 6 rebs.

    J. Fischer-16 points, T. Moreno-13 points and B. Wilkins-12 points join him in the double digit catagory.

Bozeman finishes with just 2 points but did manage to grab 10 rebs and block 3 shots in his limited PT.

Watkins ties Stafford with 23 points in the loss, well Beeler had 19 pts on 3/9 3pt.

NEXT UP BOISE STATE TRAVELS TO THE BIG ISLAND FOR A NON-CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT (HAWAIIAN ISLAND CLASSIC).

      BRONCOS BRING HOME THE HARDWARE!!

      OPENING ROUND

A huge 2nd half vs the (4-3) Indians, gave the Broncos the (84-60) victory, as 6 players scored in double digits led by K. Stafford's 17 pts, 8 rebs 3 blks and R. Perkins 13 pts 6 reb 8 assists.

The Broncos finally shook their cold shooting from the outside as they finish the game 6/11 from deep including 3/3 by SR SG B. Wilkins (11 pts)

      SEM-FINALS

Boise State would take on (4-3) Marquette for the chance to play for the title. The Golden Eagles came into the game losers of their last 3 games playing well below their preseason expectations (87 Overall).

It was a high scoring affair as both came out firing on all cylinders going into the locker room tied (48-48). In the 2nd half Marquette switched it up on defense and deployed a full court press, which was odd with the score so close. The Broncos would destroy the press however as C. Humphrey proves why he is one of the best hall handler in the country and K. Stafford was the recipient of the easy buckets as he scores a career high 39 points to go with his team leading 10 rebounds.FINAL SCORE BOISE STATE-118 MARQUETTE-98

Freshman Regis Perkins also continued his strong all around play in the tournament adding 23 points 7 rebounds 4 assists well grabbing 2 steals and 6th man J. Fischer added 13 pts 6 reb 4 assists and 4 steals.

Fellow FR C. Borges added 14 pts on 3/3 from beyond the arc, well JR SF A. Bennett and SR PF C. Hannan added 12 points each off the bench

      Coach Ryan
"Honestly I am not sure why they continued to press and give up easy buckets to Stafford. There is no reason why we should've won by 20 points or shot a season/career high 71% from the field"
      CHAMPIONSHIP

In the title game, Boise State would just miss out in playing a rematching with Portland as the Pilots fall a bucket short to South Caroliona. So instead if was the (7-1) Gamecocks standing in the way, but SCU would struggle in the first half as they deployed a 2/3 zone that got shredded by FR Regis Perkins. Perkins would score 22 points hitting 4/5 from deep to lead the Broncos to a (48-27) 1st half lead.

In the 2nd half it continued to be the Perkins coming out party as the dynamic freshman tallies in 21 more points to finish with a career high 43 points.

      K. Stafford added (10 pts 7 reb) and J. Fischer had (10 pts 4 reb 3 assists) as the Broncos cruised to the victory falling 1 bucket shy of the century mark for the 2nd straight game. FINAL SCORE BSU-98 SOUTH CAROLINA-76

      UP NEXT

The (11-3) Broncos will close out non-conference play on Christmas Eve vs (6-3) Washington. The Huskies started the year in the Top-25 and climbed to #19 but losing 3 of their last 5 games including a home loss to (3-8) NC A&T knocked U.W. out of the Top-25 as the Broncos come to town looking for a early Christmas present.

Does Perkins have any draft buzz yet? This kid seems legit.

No draft buzz yet, but the kid is legit. The South Carolina game was his coming out party, he actually follows it up with a big game against the Huskies as well, that came down the the buzzer.. I should get it posted tonight..

Between him and Stafford this team is pretty fun to play with. I feel bad that I just havn't been able to get much going with Humphrey offensively. But he does rack up a good amount of assists. I don't know what it is but every time I drive the lane with him his shots end up getting blocked, and I have yet to find a groove with his 3pt shot.

Maybe try to use the floater (pull the shot stick away from the rim) when he gets into the paint?

              A TALE OF 2 HALFS!!!

              (6-3)

              GAME RECAP

For those who flipped the channel at half time and never came back, well shame on you I guess. Boise State coming off back to back games of offensive fireworks (118 vs Marquette and 98 vs South Carolina) it was all that and a whole lot more. The Broncos would dominate the 1st half scoring 60 points as they shoot 68% from the field and 70% from beyond the arc (7/10) with FR R. Perkins leading the way with 24 points including 2/2 from 3pt and 8/8 from the charity stripe. Half time score BSU-60 UW-36

In the 2nd half the Broncos however would go cold from the outside as they miss all 8 of their attempts from downtown including a 0/6 performance from SR SG B. Wilkins.

The Huskies on the other hand go from shooting just 37% in the 1st half to connecting on over 70% of their shots including a 8-0 run to bring the game within 3 points with less then a minute to play.

The Broncos holding on to the (102-99) lead, with 44 seconds to play looked to run off as much clock as possible before making what they hoped to be a game sealing shot. Instead Stafford's shot with 2 seconds to play on the shot clock rims out leaving the Huskies one last chance to tie the game and force O.T.

SR SF I. Blackett had been on fire hitting 4/5 from deep after going 0/4 in the 1st half but Blackett's buzzer beater would fall short ending their comeback bid. FINAL SCORE BSU-102 UW-99

              KEY PLAYERS
              R. Perkins takes home POG honors as follows up his 43 point performance with 38 points.
The rest of the starting 5 all add double digits including C. Humphrey who has a double double with 10 pts and 10 assists.
              J. Fischer leads the bench with 6 points and a team high 8 rebs.

Blackett leads the Huskies in the loss with 27 points well SR PG B. Nixon adds 18 pts and 6 assists, but goes just 1/6 from deep.

                Re: A Legend Reborn II-College Hoops 2k8

With the 2010 Non-Conference Schedule in the books, it's time to look at this year's 2011 WAC Conference Preview.

The Boise State Broncos (82 Overall) entered the year as favorite to win or at least place in the Top-3 and after a strong non-conference start (12-3) it looks like it could be the Broncos taking home the conference hardware.

Their biggest challenger is Utah State (85 Overall). The Aggies finish non-conference play with a 9-2 record losing by 2 points @ South Dakota State and at home vs Saint Mary's (64-63). Led by JR SF H. Dupree "Best Overall/Pro Prospect" (88 Overall, 16.9 PPG), the Aggies are currently sitting #2 in the latest Mid-Major Top-25 Poll.

The question is how long can they hold that spot as the Broncos are currently sitting at #4. Dupree also will have to watch his back because now Boise State doesn't have just 1 player coming after some WAC POY accolades but 2 players. K. Stafford is coming off a 13.5 PPG,7.5 RPG performance that saw him win the National FOY and WAC FOY awards last season and so far he is putting up very similar #'s this year averaging a team high 16.5 PPG and 7.2 RPG.

However Stafford and Dupree will both face stiff competition as FR Regis Perkins looks to follow in Stafford's shoes with FOY awards he is looking to add POY to his resume as well. After back to back games that saw him avg 40.5 PPG, Perkins has raised his season average to 15.9 PPG to go with 3.9 RPG, 2.3 APG and 1.3 SPG well 48% from deep (23/48).

Perkins isn't the the only Bronco Freshman having a solid year thus far. SG Coy Borges finishes non-conference play with a 10.5 PPG well shooting 56% (29/52)from beyond the arc. FR PG C. Humphrey isn't scoring alot of points, but he is currently leading the conference in assists at 5.9 APG.

If anyone is going to knock off BSU or USU, my money would be on the team that has 2 of the last 3 conference tournament championships. New Mexico State (80 Overall) enters WAC play at 8-3 including win's over Stanford and Oregon State on the road. The Aggies also boast the conference's leading scorer and another WAC POY front runner. SR M. Cousinard (79 Overall) who is following up a 17.9 PPG last season with a 20.2 PPG so far this season in 11 games.

The surprise so far in non-conference play has to be that of Nevada (82 Overall). The Wolfpack enter WAC play at just (4-5) and will need to basically have a undefeated conference season for a chance at a 20 win year.

(6-7) Fresno State (77 Overall), (6-8) Hawaii (75 Overall),(6-4) San Jose State (77 Overall) all finish non-conference play with 6 wins, well La Tech (78 Overall) winners of the conference the past seasons go just 4-7, including 4 straight loss's to USC,#8 UCLA,Utah and Washington State.

Idaho (76 Overall) are having a season they would most likely hope would just end now. The Vandals started the year 0-2 but manage to pull off a win over Gonzaga at home before losing 9 straight to finish 1-11. I will give them credit though they did play a very tough schedule with games vs Memphis (home and away), @ BYU, vs Washington State, vs TCU, @ S. Illinois,@ Florida State.

THE BRONCOS WILL OPEN UP WAC PLAY @ TACO BELL ARENA FOR 3 STRAIGHT GAMES AS THEY LOOK TO DEFEND A 5 GAME CURRENT HOME WINNING STREAK.

Perkins is putting in some serious work! In my many years of playing this game I don’t think I’ve ever had a player explode for back-to-back games like he just did.

I would say in all my years of playing he probably Top-10 in talent and ability and this is only his Freshman season, so he sticks around he could become one of the greatest.

BRONCOS WIN STREAK MOVES TO 7!!

Coach Ryan and the Bronco's started off conference play strong with 3 straight wins all coming at Taco Bell Arena where they have yet to lose this season (8 game win streak), as they improve 15-3 on the season.

                        GAME 1 VS HAWAII
Down (43-40) at the half, the Broncos used a balance offense attack that saw 5 players score in double digits and a switch to man to man defense limits to the Warriors to just 24 points as Boise State wins the opener Final Score BSU-87 Hawaii-67)

                        J. Fischer led the team in his 6th man role with 21 pts off the bench.
Stafford (14/5 reb), Perkins (13/9 reb) T. Moreno (12) and C. Humphrey (12/5 ast) where the other key players

                        GAME 2 VS UTAH STATE

The first meeting of the 2 WAC Mid-Major Powers, has the Broncos survive not just 1 game winner in the final seconds but 2..

Utah State would lead at the half (45-43) as they shot an amazing 60% from the field and 4/5 from beyond the arc.

Freshman R. Perkins continued his strong play leading the Broncos with 12 points including a perfect 2/2 from 3pt

In the 2nd half the Broncos would get a huge boost from High school AA PG C. Humphrey as he scores 10 of his season high 15 points including a 3pt with 17 seconds to play to give the Broncos the 1 point lead.

Utah State despite only trailing by 1 looked to be setting up a 3pt play for the final shot, but SO M. Strickland's shot from the corner would find iron. Stafford would get the rebound but was quickly fouled with 5 seconds to play.

With a chance to add to the lead, Stafford would miss both FT's. Utah State would have 1 final shot at the buzzer by JR SF H. Dupre's shot would miss it's mark as the Broncos squeak out the win. Final Score BSU-85 USU-84

Dupre led all scorers with 21 points in the loss, well PG V. Bain added 18 points as well.

For Boise State it was R. Perkins leading the way with 18 points. C. Humphrey added 15 (including 2/2 from 3pt) and 5 assists, as he finds his groove in the offense. However the POG award went to T. Moreno. The SR PF had an amazing all around game as he finished with 13 points, 6 rebounds 7 assists, 6 steals and 2 block shots.

                          BOISE STATE CRACKS TOP-25!!!

When Coach Ryan took over the Boise State program last season he had a goal to turn the Broncos into a Mid-Major power program and after a 25 win season and Elite 8 showing in the NCAA tournament he was off to a great start. Armed with the #3 recruiting class in the nation joining National FOY award winner K. Stafford in the starting lineup the Broncos have been one of the best teams in the nation losing just 3 games going into conference play with 2 of them to the #1 team in the nation (Oregon)

After a 3-0 start in conference play which saw the Broncos improve to 15 wins, and a 8 game win streak, Boise State kept things rolling with with 5 wins. With 20 wins locked in, the Broncos made the debut in the Top-25 Media Poll at #19.

Here is a recap of the last 5 games.

                          Game 1 @ New Mexico

The Broncos dominated from start to finish as this game was over before half time. (47-25 at the half) and a Final Score of BSU-88 NMS-50

The Aggies shot a disappointing 2/15 from deep and got just 8 points from M. Cousinard (18.9 PPG) the conference's leading vote getter for WAC POY.

                          K. Stafford just edged out R. Perkins for POG honors as both players finished with double doubles. (Stafford 17 pts 12 reb, Perkins 12 pts 10 reb). 4 other players joined in the double digit scoring including FR walkon Tomas Kale. The former Mr BB from Hawaii was perfect on the night going 3/3 from the field including a 1/1 from deep and 4-4 from the FT line to finish with 11 pts (a season/career high). Humphrey (11 pts 3/5 3pt), Borges (16 pts 2/6 3pt), J. Fischer-12 pts 6 reb 4 assists were the other key players

                          Game 2 @ Idaho

Idaho actually led at the half (38-32) as 7'0 SR R. Platt (15.4 PPG avg) led the way with 12 first half points. But early foul trouble put Platt on the bench most of the 2nd half as the Vandals failed to find other offensive output. Final Score BSU-70 Idaho-56

Platt finished with 17 pts and 6 reb in the loss. For Boise State it was C. Humphrey leading the way with 12 pts and a team high 4 assists.

Well the win on the court was great, the Broncos did manage 1 loss, as SR T. Moreno left the game with a back injury. It appears he will miss the next 3 weeks of action. With Moreno out, 6th man J. Fischer will take over the starting PF spot.

                          Game 3 @ Fresno State
The Bulldogs entered the game winless in WAC play but sure didn't play like it coming out on fire as they shot 65% from the field scoring 50 points and taking a double digit lead into the locker room (50-36) led by SO SF D. Stivers 14 points (3/4 3pt).

In the 2nd half, Stivers would continue to pour in points as he finished with a game high 29, but the Broncos never gave up and with less then a minute to play K. Stafford would give BSU the 2 point lead. Fresno would answer back to tie the game with 28 seconds to play. Willing to play in Overtime if needed, Coach Ryan would have his team hold the ball for the final shot again again it was Stafford coming through with the winning bucket as time expires.Final Score BSU-81 Fresno State-79

Stafford took POG honors scoring a team high 28 points. With 6th man J. Fischer in the starting lineup, SR W. Banjo took over the bigman off the bench role and came up huge scoring a season/career high 15 pts.

Game 4 vs San Jose State
Looking to defend their 8 game home winning streak, the Broncos dominated the Spartan from start to finish in front of a sold out crowd. (Lead 47-31 at half).Final Score BSU-84 SJSU-57

Stafford again takes POG with 19 pts 5 rebs 3 stls and 2 blks.
Perkins adds 16 pts despite shooting just 2/8 from 3pt.
Fischer is solid in this 2nd start with 12 pts 8 reb and 4 assists.
                          A. Bennett leads the bench with 11 pts and 7 reb
Walkon M. Kouyate scores a season high 7 pts in 4 mins of play.

                          Game 5 vs Nevada
The Wolfpack took a early lead behind 8 straight points from JR PF M.C. Fuller (17.4 PPG), but the Broncos would answer back with a 12-0 run of their own at the end of the 1st half to lead (45-35) at the break.

Fuller continued to have a solid game scoring a game high 26 points well grabbing 7 rebs, but 2/20 from 3pt spelled doom for Nevada. (starting backcourt was a combined 0/9). Final Score BSU-80 Nevada-65

With Fischer once again starting, it was SR Bud Wilkins taking POG honors off the bench as he scores 20 pts to lead all Broncos. Fischer and Stafford each added 12 pts well Stafford also had a team high 9 rebs, just missing out on the double double. C. Humphrey led the team with 7 assists to go with 10 points as well.

                                BRONCOS CLINCH WAC TITLE!!!

Just 2 years into his coaching reign, Coach Deuce Ryan has led the Boise State Broncos to their 1st ever WAC Regular Season Championship. Boise State also ended the regular season with their first ever Top-25 ranking with a 27-4 Overall record, they have also already surpassed their highest win total in a season (25 last year in the Elite 8 run).

With the #1 seed secured for the WAC tournament, the Broncos will await the winner of the Fresno State/Idaho playin game on Wednesday as they will enter the Vegas tournament looking to secure the automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.

Here is a recap of the final 3 regular season games.

                                @ (13-8) NEVADA

This was a must win for the Wolfpack as they were the closest challenger for the title, with 3 conference loss's. The Broncos led at the half (44-39) as SR T. Moreno played well in his 2nd game back coming off injury. Moreno led the team with (12) 1st half points.

Nevada would have a chance to tie the game with less then a minute to play, but a missed bucket and a Moreno make made it a 4 point game. Nevada again would cut it to just a bucket, but after a failed steal attempt they were forced to foul as Borges seals the victory with a pair of free throws.Final Score BSU-82 Nevada-78

Moreno takes home POG honors for what I believe is the 1st time this season as he scores a team high 18 points.

                                K. Stafford adds 16, well A. Bennett pumps in 12 off the bench.

                                @ (11-14) SAN JOSE STATE

Unlike the Nevada game, this one was never in doubt. BSU would lead by double digits at the half (36-25) and cruise to a easy "W" as the Spartans struggled from downtown (5/22, including 0/7 from starting SF D. Heinen)
                                Final Score BSU-80 SJSU-50

                                J. Fischer takes home POG honors off the bench as he scores a team high 21 points and grabs a team high 8 rebounds back in his 6th man role.

                                K. Stafford adds 19 points well FR T. Kale had a career game scoring 11 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists in what appears to be his last start filling in for Humphrey.

                                @ (8-20) FRESNO STATE

It was Senior night, and the return of FR C. Humphrey. Humphrey would rejoin the starting lineup with the Broncos 4 Seniors joining him. Bud Wilkins at SG, C. Hannan at SF, T. Moreno at PF and W. Banjo at C.

The offense never missed a beat as the Broncos dominate the 1st half (49-34) and cruised in the double digits win. Final Score BSU-90 FSU-69

Humphrey led the way and got POG with 15 pts and 4 assists as he hit 3/3 from downtown.

Hannan added 12 (2/3 3pt) and Wilkins (2/3 3pt) and Moreno each added 11. W. Banjo added 7 points and had a team high 6 rebs.

                                J. Fischer led the bench with 12 points.
