2K will probably never allow us to import our MyNBA saves from game-to-game but it'd be neat to have an exporting roster / draft class function in the future.
I so wish they allowed game-to-game save imports. That would be so great. I've wanted that in all sports games for years.

In the meantime, these modding tools will need to do the trick for me on PC.

Thanks for understanding and the support. We have some really juicy stuff coming up:
    1. Oggy (who has yet to win a game at LMU) vs Duquesne, who he roasted very publicly.
    2. Dinko vs Duquesne
    3. Drago Derby #6
    4. NBA division-by-division previews, with some really interesting storylines

Can't wait to get all these out to you.

The Inside Scoop – Preseason Edition

The Inside Scoop is based on TheDominator273's awesome spreadsheet to add random events to your MyLeague.

        Jonathan Isaac enhances his strengths
When Jonathan Isaac (SF, 85 ovr) joined the Nuggets before last season, he was already known as a defense-first player with limited offensive potential. On a Nuggets team that saw 4 different players score 20+ points per game, his offensive contributions were needed even less. He played lock down perimeter defense and was often ignored on the offensive end. With the Nuggets falling short in the NBA Finals, many were interested to see how the team would respond this offseason. Isaac decided that he’d rather bolster his strengths than shore up his weaknesses. He’s spent this offseason with intense mental and physical workouts, learning from Alonzo Mourning, Gary Payton, and Shawn Marion.

The result is a player that looks like he could be the best defender of this decade and the Nuggets are excited to unleash him on the opposing team’s best player.

The Nuggets’ coaching staff isn’t taking anything for granted
Denver’s staff has been busy this offseason. Despite having one of the most talented starting fives in NBA history, the team was handled quite easily by the Bucks in the NBA Finals. The team’s biggest weakness is their depth and you can solve that two ways: by adding talent and by improving the talent you have. The team took special interest in Toby Day (PF, 70 ovr), a Canadian rookie. Through some specialized offseason programs, Day is now regularly hitting midrange and three point shots in practice and scrimmages and the team is hopeful that he can have an impact off the bench this season.

Meyers Leonard takes on a mentor role for Sherman Turner
For many young players, their transition to the NBA can be a rocky one. The Clippers are in the midst of a youth movement and want to do whatever they can to build a solid core to contend with. They are fortunate to have veterans like Meyers Leonard (C, 74 ovr) who know their NBA days are numbered and can add the most value by paying it forward. He’s built a relationship with second year big man Sherman Turner (PF, 78 ovr) out of Oklahoma and has been spending time with him in the gym, looking to turn Turner from a traditional back-to-the-basket big into somebody that can also catch and shoot. So far, so good for the youngster.

Marquel Clemmons looking to become more of a scorer
Marquel Clemmons (PG, 74 ovr) has been on a wild journey in just 2 years in the NBA. Here’s what’s happened to him, in order:
        1. Grew 2 inches his senior season at Cincinnati
        2. Drafted 28th overall in 2022 by the 76ers
        3. Tore his ACL and missed the entire season
        4. Picked by the Honu in the 2023 expansion draft
        5. Traded immediately to the Magic as part of a package for Dave Tran
        6. Rode the bench the entire year
        7. Signed a 2-way deal with the Clippers this offseason

He’s hoping that LA can be a place he can put down roots and make an impact and he’s working hard on his game. One thing he’s done is studied some of the great NBA point guards and how they are able to hit shots regularly from the midrange via pull up jumpers. He’s put in a ton of work and is starting to get really comfortable hitting shots when driving right off the pick-and-roll.

Does Kim Pait care more about his physique than his jumper?
Taquan St. Fort was the headline draft pick for the Cavs this season, but they had a second lottery pick and managed to grab Pittsburgh’s playmaker Kim Pait (SF, 71 ovr). However, once camp started it was noticed that Pait looked quite rusty, like he hadn’t shot a ball in a few months. He wasn’t in bad shape, but his jumper looked rough. It remains to be seen if he can work his way back to a good place with his shooting, but this is a tough start to his rookie year.

Jazz Grace is a goated name.

Good to see Michael Coles get draft recognition, hopefully John Cenas can get his name in draft conversations next year.

I like the face scans of Petie Murray and Darrall Sheridan. Has the switch to PC and getting access to all of the mods been worth it?

This draft class is an all-timer for names, and I love Jazz Grace for sure.

LOL at Micheal Coles (yeah, 2K spelled Micheal the less common way). We'll see if CHoops uses the last name Cena

I didn't use the Cyberface Mixer to make new faces for all the prospects as I did this draft class a few months ago and was getting my feet wet. Some prospects are clearly awful 2K faces like Jack Millage. But yes, I do love the ability to get the players more realistic faces.

From the prospects in that list, there are a few that I am glad I got (in addition to Petie and Darrall):
              • Vladimir Tomasevic - not a pretty guy, but captured that Eastern European look in a unique way
              • Jazz Grace - unique face shape
              • Raphael Borges - unique hair, did a good job making him look Hispanic
              • Jaime Chatfield - he looks 50 and I just LOL'd and kept him that way
              • Andre O'Hara - just looks solid
              • Churchill Gillingham - not only does he have a great name, but he got a very distinct face.

I look forward to doing a better job with next year's draft. I also grabbed the Cyberface IDs for a bunch of lesser known retired players (guys like Bimbo Coles, etc) that I may use as well.

Jaime Chatfield looks like a 40-year-old manager at a Fortune 500 company who just decided to pick up the rock after a few years off, and I love it.

I'm jealous of the face scans, those are super nice.

Nov 24, 2024 Loyola Marymount at Duquesne [non-conference]

In any other year, this game would be forgotten and just a pre-season warmup. But this season it was different. Oggy’s public and inflammatory criticism of the university, and a little bit toward coach Pope, has many in Pittsburgh riled up – both agreeing and disagreeing with him – and folks are interested to see what happens at tonight’s game.

Both programs haven’t tasted the NCAA postseason in many decades and are looking to rebuild and rebound with new head coaches. The Dukes are a bit further ahead in that journey as they are 3-2 on the season and boast the reigning National Freshman of the Year in Trevoy Stepp (PF, 80 ovr). The Dukes have wins over Monmouth, South Florida, and Southern Utah and have lost to Hartford and #11 California.

In addition to Stepp, the Dukes feature 7’1” freshman Jackie Goodrich (C, 73 ovr), unfortunately for them he is out for another week with a separated shoulder. Stepp will be playing but is nursing a quad, though he’s still averaging 17 points and 9 rebounds pre game. Junior guard Jamie Packevicius (PG, 70 ovr) is scoring 11 points per game and will need to be a great distributor this game and make up for the lost points that Goodrich provides.

In Goodrich’s place will be a face familiar to Oggy: Tom Catchings (C, 53 ovr) attended the first 2 Drago’s Dominators big man camps. He’s a hometown boy from Pittsburgh, and a nice story. But he’s bad and Oggy is going to go after him all game long.

The Lions haven’t been great, but Oggy is excited at the prospects for them winning this game. There’s no real outside shooting on Duquesne and no height left on their bench. Look for a lot of inside-out play and constant attacking Catchings or whomever subs in for him.

From the start of the game, it looked like Oggy was wrong about Tom Catchings. Stepp hadn’t scored a point yet and Catchings had 7 while the Lions kept missing easy looks. Down 12-6, Oggy called a timeout and quickly saw his team bring it to within 1, but then the Dukes started hitting too many shots and found themselves up 26-19. And this was without Trevoy Stepp scoring at all.

After Ervin Brooks finished off a lob layup and was fouled, the Lions cut it to just a 1 point game. Skip Salow had been the key player for Loyola Marymount so far as he was 3-5 from deep and helped tie the game up just a possession later. It was 32-32.

At halftime, Duquesne boasted a small lead, 41-38. Tom Catchings had 13 points and 4 assists so far and in Oggy’s internal monologue he was screaming “WHAT IS GOING ON?” about Catchings’ night. Salow had 13 points at the break and Nashif had 12 for Oggy’s team, but they would need better defense if they wanted to win this. And Oggy really wanted to, not in small part because of the taunts from the crowd that rained down on him as he walked to the locker room at halftime.

Early in the second half, things started well as the Lions pulled ahead after a Kahrimanovic slam, but it quickly went back to the Duke’s game as they pulled ahead by 5 and Tom Catchings scored several more buckets to bring his game total up to 22. The only thing keeping Loyola Marymount in the game was their press, which had forced 10 turnovers so far. However, outside of his dunk, Kahrimanovic hadn’t hit a shot and was having another awful game. Had he even practiced this offseason?

However, the rest of the Lions rallied and after 3 straight Duquesne turnovers and 6 straight LMU points, the Duquesne lead was only 1 point: 64-63. After neither team scored for 2 straight minutes, Herbert Nashif finally helped the Lions get a lead with an up-and-under.

That appears to be all that Duquesne needed to wake up and they went on a run, pulling ahead 71-65. Kahrimanovic gave LMU some false hope, hitting a three with a minute left to cut it to 4, and then another turnover on the press resulted in a layup making it a 76-74 game. But when Duquesne hit a three to go up 5, it was over. Kahirmanovic hit a garbage time three with 2 seconds left and Loyola Marymount dropped to 0-4 on the season.

The inability to stop “terrible” Tom Catchings doomed the Lions as he scored 22 points.

Herbert Nashif did have 26 points and Skip Salow scored 20 while Reid Christensen dropped 16. The offense doesn’t seem to be the problem for the Lions, but instead getting stops in the half court. Immanuel Kahrimanovic was 3-10 shooting with 2 of those coming in the final minute. He needs to do a lot more for this team if they are going to get wins.

                    Around the NCAA
                    • North Carolina beats Louisville 91-74. Somehow the Cardinals are still ranked higher than the Tar Heels as the two teams are ranked 7th and 8th in the polls. Senior Jud Francis (SG, 87 ovr) led the way for North Carolina as he dropped 30 points in the victory. Francis is only 6’1” but extremely athletic and excels at getting to the basket, playing defense on the perimeter, and can even grab his fair share of rebounds.
                    • San Francisco shows they are not only the class of the WCC, but a team to be taken seriously this year as they down Arizona, dropping the Wildcats to #13. The Dons are the top-ranked Mid Major team and also are #23 in the polls.
                    • St. Francis (PA) is #5 on the Mid Major Top 10, a great start for Dinko!

That's two difficult losses for Oggy. Think he would have wanted this one more than the Stetson game based on his disdain for Duquesne not hiring Dinko, and he was better suited to win this one from a talent standpoint. Catchings' performance was completely unexpected based on his overall rating, and it added a nice storyline wrinkle with how he attended the brothers' camps and never made it on their radar.

It's been a really interesting start for Oggy in LMU - albeit, for the wrong reasons. Might be a more difficult season that he thought.

I love the Tom Catchings storyline here. I hate that it cost Oggy the game, but it's amazing that he of all people ruined this night for Oggy. Big dishes of schadenfreude being served all around right now.

It's been really rough for LMU. Next time we see them showcased is the Drago Derby, which is looking bad for them. Hopefully they can pick up their first win in the meantime. Oggy is just 8 wins away from 100 and I thought it was a foregone conclusion he'd get there this season. Maybe it'll be tough.

This Lions team won 3 games last year, so I think he'll probably at least double or triple that this year, but it's still not a good season.

2024-25 NBA Season Preview: Pacific Division

Welcome to the 2024-25 NBA season preview! We’re starting things as far West as possible with the Pacific Division. The format of these season previews are inspired by MLS writer Matthew Doyle, who provides fantastic American soccer coverage. I won’t be borrowing his tiers, but in past years he’s ranked teams from best to worst in the league and provided the preview by answering 2 questions: “why this team will win MLS cup” and “why this team won’t win MLS cup”. Inspired by this, we’ll provide a division-by-division preview. Teams will be ordered from best to worst projected finish this season.

The Pacific division is easily divided into 3 buckets:
                          1. The Warriors
                          2. Big changes but could be good (Lakers, Suns, Kings)
                          3. Building for the future (Honu, Clippers)

It’s hard to tell which of the Lakers, Suns, and Kings will take steps forward or back this year based on all the changes they’ve made. All 3 of them have very talented players and arguments could be made that they are better than last year and should make the playoffs, but it’s also easy to think all 3 of those teams could be disappointments.

Here’s the division preview in order of projected finish.

56-26 last year (1st in West). Lost in 6 games to Denver in Western Conference Finals

                          Key additions:
Daniel Theis (C, 80 ovr, from Honu); Tyler Lydon (PF, 77 ovr, from Kings)
Key losses: Eric Paschall (PF, 79 ovr, to SuperSonics)

Why the Warriors are a championship contender
They have been one of the best and most consistent teams in the league for years and still have most the entire core that won them a title a few years ago. Steph is still great and Jimmy Butler, DeAndre Ayton, Klay Thompson, and Jarrett Pressley make up fantastic, All-Star level sidekicks. If Ayton can stay healthy, this team has the scoring and defense to beat anybody in the NBA.

Why the Warriors may miss the playoffs
They are either very old or very injury prone. If Curry, Butler, and/or Ayton misses significant time, this is a team without much depth. As Bill Simmons often notes, you never quite know when old guys are going to lose it, and when they do they fall off a cliff quickly.

Projected record and finish: 54-28 (3rd in West)

43-39 last year (9th in West).

                          Key additions:
Adrian Stewart (PF, 86 ovr, from Pelicans), Victor Oladipo (SG, 83 ovr, Pelicans), Uros Dragic (PG, 79 ovr, from Honu)
Key losses: Devin Booker (SG, 91 ovr, to Pelicans), Dejounte Murray (PG, 86 ovr, to Magic), Draymond Green (PF, 75 ovr, free agent)

Why the Suns are a championship contender
The drama and chronic underachieving of Devin Booker is gone and they have surrounded Bam with hungry and complementary two-way players. Stewart can thrive as more of a stretch 4 with Bam in the paint and Oladipo doesn’t have to be the primary ball-handler and create off the wing. Dragic is the kind of distributor Phoenix hasn’t had in years and both Hart and Gordon make great and well-rounded role players. If Bam or Stewart can step up and become an elite offensive option this team could be very dangerous.

Why the Suns may miss the playoffs
They suffered a huge amount of roster turnover and it’s possible that the fit of Stewart and Bam in the frontcourt won’t work as they occupy similar spaces. That was the problem in New Orleans, but Phoenix thinks they can make it work. Oladipo may never be a primary scorer again, and Dragic has yet to prove he can run a team and dictate tempo, especially on a team with aspirations.

Projected record and finish: 45-37 (7th in West)

50-32 last year (5th in West). Lost in 5 games to Golden State in round 2

Key additions: Milos Jeffers (SG, 79 ovr, from Thunder)
Key losses: LeBron James (PF, 87 ovr, to Thunder), Nassir Little (PF, 80 ovr, to Thunder)

Why the Lakers are a championship contender
Because they are younger, more athletic, and fully built around Anthony Davis. The spectre of LeBron and his teams consistently under-performing in LA are gone and now this is AD’s team with Paul George and Milos Jeffers providing perimeter scoring and plenty of hard-working role players around them.

Why the Lakers may miss the playoffs
Because AD and Paul George are getting older and can a team actually be better if they trade LeBron James for an under-sized three point shooter in Jeffers? Davis still in his prime, but George may not be even All-Star quality anymore and Jeffers has been all promise but very little production so far in his career. All the comparisons have been to Steph Curry, but at this point we’d take JJ Redick from him.

Projected record and finish: 43-39 (9th in West)

32-50 last year (13th in West).

Key additions: Domantas Sabonis (C, 85 ovr, from Trail Blazers), Lauri Markkanen (PF, 84 ovr, from Thunder), Bogdan Bogdanovic (SG, 79 ovr, from Thunder), Qi Zhou (C, 80 ovr, from Raptors), Keston Mendoza (PF, 78 ovr, from Stanford)
Key losses: Buddy Hield (SG, 80 ovr, to Trail Blazers), Kendrick Nunn (SG, 80 ovr, to Pelicans), Derrick White (SG, 76 ovr, to Trail Blazers)

Why the Kings are a championship contender
Because they boast one of the smartest and most flexible frontcourts in the league and have a supporting cast that doesn’t need to be ball-dominant to succeed. With the Warriors and Rockets aging and the Lakers, Thunder, Suns, and Pelicans experiencing huge shakeups this offseason, the door may be open for a new team to step in. Sabonis, Markkanen, Bridges, and Bogdanovic have all had journeys all over the NBA and want to taste success. Look for them to set aside any egos and work to succeed.

Why the Kings may miss the playoffs
They’re the Kings. No matter how much they add talent or shake things up, they always seem to do things wrong. In this case, Markkanen and Sabonis may be too alike and struggle defensively and with getting in each other’s space. They may not get enough perimeter scoring from an aging Bogdanovic and random cast of young players and journeymen.

Projected record and finish: 38-44 (11th in West)

33-49 last year (12th in West).

Key additions: Jordan Bell (PF, 80 ovr, from SuperSonics), Artie Tyler (SG, 79 ovr, from Australia), Regis Matela (PF, 75 ovr, from UL Lafayette)
Key losses: Duncan Robinson (SF, 77 ovr, to Spurs), Uros Dragic (PG, 79 ovr, to Suns), Daniel Theis (C, 80 ovr, to Warriors)

Why the Honu are a championship contender
Because Markelle Fultz is ready to live up to his pre-draft projection and be the kind of star that can carry a team to 55+ wins and a deep playoff run. Tyler Herro steps up to be a near All-Star and the supporting cast, including incoming rookies Artie Tyler and Regis Matela, play great defense and complement Fultz and Herro.

Why the Honu may miss the playoffs
Because they’re an expansion team with a ways to go and their draft picks and young players haven’t turned into stars yet. They’re a fun story, but a few years away from competing.

Projected record and finish: 26-56 (13th in West)

27-55 last year (14th in West).

Key additions: Mo Wagner (C, 78 ovr, from Grizzlies)
Key losses: Dennis Schroder (PG, 81 ovr, to SuperSonics), Luke Kennard (SG, 78 ovr, to Wizards)

Why the Clippers are a championship contender
Because they might overachieve in the first half of the season, make a huge trade at midseason, exceed all expectations, and see their young players take a big step forward. OG Anunoby, Zakee Roberson, and Marquis Huffman could all be contributors on title contenders, provided there are a few more stars around them.

Why the Clippers may miss the playoffs
Because they have less talent than nearly every other team in the NBA and Collin Sexton has been a loser at every stop of his career. He seems to make his teams worse and there’s no evidence it’s getting any better here in LA.

Projected record and finish: 24-58 (14th in West)

I like the format of the reviews. I'll be waiting for the one team that championship contender is just '(team) will not win the 2024-2025 championship' lol.

Cool to see the movement throughout your league but also old faces pop up like Walter Lemon and Kabengele (was a beast in my 2k20 file).

That Suns team has a 99 Hustle Rating. You have to deal with Josh Hart and Bam to start the game only for Aaron Gordon to come off the bench.

Thanks! I've admittedly struggled to find a good format for season previews, but when I remembered Matthew Doyle, I got excited about doing that. I wish the graphics could show more than the top 6 (I'd like to go 8-10 deep) but it's certainly better than nothing.

I definitely thought about a "because a meteor took out 28 other teams" note for why a team would win the championship, but I tried to be more positive about it I just typed up the Pacers and Cavs previews last night...and those are rough.

Yeah, it's funny to see which guys hung on and ended up being good! And while I control every trade, I don't control free agency, so some of these moves I was surprised by and liked - such as Hield to the Blazers.

I know that they should be worse getting rid of Booker, but I really like them. I think Stewart just wasn't allowed to thrive with Zion occupying the same space in New Orleans and hopefully he can mesh with Bam here. Phoenix hasn't had a real and decent PG the entire dynasty, so Dragic is a huge upgrade for them, and I think they could be a pesky team that manages to finish top 6 in the West. Maybe they can do better, which would be fun.

Thanks for sharing with me, previously, about how your idea for the brothers Bulgarian came about, I bet that was exciting to put that all together and then get to the point where it was time to actually put it all together in the game, and play. Going big picture here without being asked (haha), it's lucky for each of us on the OS borad that is into this type of thing that we find something so accessible to be fun and interesting. So many people don't have a freaking hobby, and we have one that - at least for me, personally - makes me feel giddy sometimes while costing very little to enjoy.

Enjoyed the 2020 storyline against EWU of Oggy deciding to play it more on the disciplined style and finished out that game after a talking to by Dinko.

I have to say, that again, I love the pace of this and being able to delve into one team at a time, jumping ahead, hearing a little about the NCAA as a whole or the NBA as a whole without it being difficult to digest, etc. So kudos, and thanks for this great read.

I'm surprised that UNC weren't able to get that win in 2020 against Montana after Jahnke closed out the half with three straight 3 pointers and the team ultimately came up a couple points short. It shows the quality of the game, as usually, when you grab momentum in SOME GAMES, it tends to stay with you. The guys are both going through the ups and downs and I can't wait to see them personalize their team with new recruits, etc.
