This was my reaction too - what a get for the Dukes if it's that Taj Gibson.

Congrats to Coach Reid on the award, well deserved!

Ah lmao, I was being lazy and copy pasted my format from last years. I forgot to change Taj Gibson to USC.

Keon Reid Staying at UC Davis with Multi-Year Extension
          April 15th, 2010

DAVIS -- Since their first-round loss to Arizona State, rumors have been circling about where UC Davis head coach Keon Reid would be coaching next season. Today, the rumors came to an end as it was announced that Reid would be staying at UC Davis at least for another year. A press conference with Athletic Director Greg Warzecka revealed the new three-year contract extension. This will reportedly take Keon Reid from one of the lowest-paid coaches in the Big West to one of the highest-paid.

An unprecedentedly small number of job openings likely helped the Aggies retain Reid. Less than fifteen jobs were open around the country with only a few being outside of small conferences. Reid was, however, rumored to be offered the Northern Illinois job which would've allowed him to move up to a Mid-Major conference and get a major salary increase.

Keon Reid has had quite the journey in his first three years at UC Davis, after his first season many of the school's top athletic boosters were calling for his firing. Reid turned it around in his second season and last year took UC Davis to their first-ever NCAA tournament.

The Aggies should be poised for success in 2010-11, they will be returning all five of their starters from a team that went 24-7. While also adding JUCO guard Erick Duggins.

Staying at UC Davis instead of heading to Dekalb, IL seems like a really good idea. We'll see what opens up in the next 2 years.

Agreed, the MAC seems like it'd be a fun conference to play in but I don't think it's worth leaving what we're building at UC Davis right now. Especially for a historically poor program in NIU.

2009-10 UC Davis Basketball Recruiting Class
                Keon Reid Lands Suprise Transfer

UC Davis finished their 2009-2010 recruiting class today, ending with a bang as Keon Reid announced the surprise transfer commitment of Norman Daley.

Erick Duggins was the first recruit to sign with the Aggies and the only one to sign in the brief two-week in-season signing period. Keon Reid wanted to add an experienced scorer and looked towards Duggins in the JUCO ranks to fill the roll.

Duggins averaged 15ppg as a sophomore at East Los Angeles College this past season. Duggins is able to create his own shots and while not an elite shooter, isn't someone that can be left open. A tad undersized at 6'2, he makes up for it was a tenacious effort on the defensive end.

A major surprise happened this week as Oregon State transfer, Norman Daley committed to UC Davis. Reid's recruitment of Daley had gone entirely under the radar and was a surprise to even those who cover the team.

Daley entered the transfer portal following his freshman season with Oregon State. Allegedly due to a lack of playing time. He's someone who will be able to contribute on both ends of the floor. Due to NCAA rules, Daley will have to sit out next year. That opens up an immediate role for him, however, as Joe Harden is a Senior this year. Meaning Daley can come in as a 6-7th man off the bench once he is eligible. Daley averaged 3.5ppg with the Beavers last season.

Edwin Bakinde has been someone that Coach Reid was in constant contact with. Bakinde reportedly was hesitant to sign in the season, however, as he wanted to be assured he'd get a chance to play for Keon Reid. With Reid officially declaring he'll return to UC Davis, Bakinde quickly signed.

The 6'8, 205lb forward is a bit of a tweener. However, it's believed Keon Reid sees him as a Power Forward in his offensive scheme. Bakinde had impressive rebounding numbers in his ABL season last year despite being rather thin. Showing he can bang inside and fight for rebounds when needed.

                Top Recruit Signings:
                - Harrison Barnes signs with Louisville
                - Victor Oladipo signs with North Carolina
                - Kyrie Irving and Dion Waiters sign with UCONN
                - Shabazz Napier signs with Rhode Island
                - Tobias Harris Signs with Georgetown
                - Joe Harris Signs with Gonzaga
                - Tristan Thompson and Jared Sullinger going to La Salle
                - Doug McDermott signs with Ole Miss

                  Nice recruiting recap, looks great.

Will Daley be able to play this year (aka was last year's transfer), or have to sit out a year?

Louisville is a huge surprise for Harrison Barnes. I figured he'd stay in Ames if he didn't end up at UNC. Big get for the Cardinals. And both Thompson and Sullinger to La Salle? LOL WOW.

Daley will sit out this year, which actually works better for us. We're losing Joe Harden after this year and Daley can slide right in as that 6-7th man off the bench forward role. I was surprised to see Barnes goto Louisville, I guess UNC got a good consolation prize in Oladipo can't say the same for Indiana.

La Salle has been sneakily good in this dynasty, they were a preseason top 25 team last season. Part of it is my fault though, Sullinger was the first player I made and his overall is lower than what I wanted it to be because I was still testing it around.

Gonzaga Enters Season at Number One

We're just a few weeks away, soon college basketball is about to get started again. Today the AP Preseason top 25 poll was released.

Sitting at the top is Gonzaga whose returning four starters from a Sweet Sixteen team. Gonzaga has been one of the top teams in college basketball for the past few years but hasn't been able to get over the hump. This year they're going to be led by Senior Center Robert Sacre and Austin Daye. They'll face a test early in the year against 7th-ranked Texas A&M.

The defending national champs, come in at number two. Returning three starters from their Championship team. Elsewhere in the Big Ten, Wisconsin came in ranked fifth. The Badgers are returning four starters from a team that made the tournament last season. They lost their leading scorer Trévon Hughes and will have to find a new player to step up.

Several years ago Texas A&M made a surprise championship run, falling just short to the North Carolina Tar Heels. One of the members of that team, DeAndre Jordan surprisingly returned opting not to go to the NBA in hopes of winning the Aggies that title. Jordan is joined by a talented backcourt of Woody Doumboya and Konrad Halsell. Coming in just behind them at eight is Duke, who last year for most of the season was the number one team. The Blue Devils came up short in the tournament, however. This year they are led by Kyle Singler and Junior three-point threat Seth Curry. Duke has a young team of highly rated-recruits looking to make an impact.

Pittsburgh at 14 is an interesting team, Pittsburgh has an extremely talented backcourt with Raitis Almond and Shannon Sinville. They also have veteran leadership in Dejuan Blair and Gary McGhee two bigs who have been major contributors for the Panthers for four years. Georgetown, at sixteen, is another team with a talented backcourt in the duo of Seniors Austin Freeman and Chris Wright. They, however, have a young and untested frontcourt. Highlighted by Freshman Tobias Harris and Sophmore center Noah Bradford.

Further down the poll when we look at potential dark horse teams to rise up the ranks, one to key in on is Arizona. Ranked 19th Wildcats have enough talent to be a top-five team, the question is if that talent can work together. Another team to watch is Boston College ranked 25th who aren't nearly as talented but return five starters from a team that won the ACC tournament championship.

I just got a decent-ish PC, I have to buy a SSD for it but I'm going to see if it can run RPCS3. Maybe I will be able to transfer this dynasty to PC and be able to screenshot.

                              UC Davis 2010-11 Season Preview

                              UC Davis Looking to Repeat

Last season, UC Davis made their first-ever NCAA tournament in their third year under Keon Reid. Along with winning both the tournament and regular season Big West titles. The Aggies, however, lost in embarrassing fashion to Arizona State in the round of 64.

In the offseason, they signed Erick Duggins, Norman Daley, and Edwin Bakinde. Daley is a transfer from LSU and ineligible for the 2010-11 season. However, Duggins and Bakinde should immediately contribute. Duggins will be an experienced scorer who can get buckets off the bench. While Bakinde will be someone who can stretch the floor.

UC Davis returns their entire starting lineup, now with another year of experience under their belts. Last year, UC Davis scored by committee with their entire starting lineup averaging around 10ppg. Will that be the case this year or will someone step up? The possible player to step up could be Niemer Jefferson. The sophomore shooting guard, is an elite shooter with an improving inside game. Could he become the next Stephen Curry? A deep threat from a small college who takes over the nation.

With the additions of Duggins, UC Davis should have a much more balanced guard rotation and will have to rely on undersized combo guard Raymond Sims much less.

During the out-of-conference schedule, the Aggies will be traveling up and down the west coast. Facing off against teams like Oregon, Boise State, Washington, and others. They should be expected to be competitive in most of their out-of-conference schedule.

                              UC Davis 2009-10 Roster:
                              • D.Parks PF SO. 6’6 216lbs (76 Ovr)

Boise State Lights up UC Davis
                                November 7th, 2010

BOISE -- UC Davis opened up their season against Boise State, the Broncos were coming off a close loss to SMU and CS Northridge last week. Boise is led by Junior point guard Tahric Meyer, but many have been looking at promising sophomore Mitchell Coverdale to have a breakout season.

From before the game started, UC Davis was a bit off. Dedrick Watson had an issue with his shoes right before tip-off and had to head back to the locker room to swap them out. Causing Leroy Youmans to start the first minute of the game. When the game began UC Davis's play was off as well, Donnie Parks missed an easy layup on the first possession of the game.

Boise State then began their three-point assault which would start from their first possession and wouldn't let up the entire game. Paul Noonan sank a three-point shot with Todd Lowenthal right in his face, one of four Noonan would hit on the evening. UC Davis was dysfunctional on offense, struggling to get the ball where they wanted and having passes tipped. Luckily for the Aggies, they were often able to recover, and find a bucket late in the shot clock. Keeping the game close midway through the first half.

However, when the Aggies bench came in the wheels began to fall off. It started with Erick Duggins who had back-to-back turnovers, as he appeared to be overly excited and pressing in his first D-1 game. Raymond Sims would then turn over the ball. On the other end, Boise State was hitting everything. Mitchell Coverdale and Paul Noonan were scoring at will on the Aggies bench. Within just a few minutes, Boise State went on a 15-2 run on UC Davis's bench.

Furious Keon Reid called a timeout and put back in his entire starting lineup. With a few minutes left in the half, the Aggies starting five was able to cut into the deficit. Primarily led by Niemer Jefferson who despite usually being a sniper was able to capitalize on Boise defenders expecting the three and then drive past them to the basket.

                                UC Davis Stats:

                                Boise State Stats:

The Aggies came out in the second half looking to get back into the game. However, they weren't able to. The Aggies struggled to penetrate the Broncos' zone defense and couldn't beat them from deep. For the Broncos, Tahric Meyer was doing a fantastic job setting up his teammates especially Noonan and Coverdale who continued to score. Meyer would end up with 12 assists in the game.

As the Boise State's lead crossed the twenty-point mark, Keon Reid tried several different things. Joe Harden was able to get hot off the bench for a bit, the Senior scoring six straight points. But the Broncos countered every basket of his with one of their own. They looked inside at Parks and Watson but both struggled. With Watson having four turnovers, he lost the ball in the post several times.

With four minutes left in the game, Keon Reid called off his dogs and put the bench in. Erick Duggins was able to find his groove in the second half, scoring all seven of his points. While walk-on Shawn Daniel also saw some action and got a bucket of his own.
