Good luck in the conference tourney! The graphics on this are pretty cool, especially that conference tournament.

If I may suggest a small improvement that could be made, from what I've seen this game simulates conf tourney brackets from bottom-to-top, so UC Davis' game should be the last one of the day! Unless you got the times from the game, which would be a TIL for this game haha.

Wow, I'm responding to these very late. I got caught up in real life but now things have calmed and with March Madness approaching I got plenty of inspiration.

Thanks for trying to give us some luck. I didn't, I just pulled this from the IRL Big West tourney back then. I'll try to remember that next season, I appreciate it.

I hope so, we are a young team so anything can happen but we definitely have the talent to win this.

While playing in the NIT would be fun and we could maybe win a few games, making our first NCAA tourney appearance would just be so much sweeter.

UC Davis Survives Against CS Northridge
        March 10th, 2010

ANAHEIM -- Last year the Matadors sent UC Davis home in the Big West tournament before winning the conference championship. This year CS Northridge hasn't had the same success in the regular season but with the conference tourney all that is erased.

UC Davis started the game off strong, going on a 12-2 run in the first few minutes. This was led by freshman power forward Donnie Parks, who hit found a variety of ways to get into the paint and score. Things quickly changed, however. CS Northridge called a timeout and afterward began to press the Aggies.

UC Davis struggled with the press, turning the ball over and forcing up bad shots. The Matadors used this to turn the game around, getting easy buckets off turnovers. Sophomore point guard Rod Welch was also finding open three-point shooters. The ref's whistle started to go against the Aggies as well, with Dedrick Watson picking up three fouls and the Matadors getting into the bonus with six minutes left in the half.

The Aggie's lead was soon erased and CS Northridge began to build one of their own. With Dedrick Watson on the bench, the Matador's bigs Willie Galick and Xavier Reed were able to create mismatches and get easy buckets inside. At one point CS Northridge was up eight, until a late UC Davis run cut it to two.

Out of the half, the Aggie's struggles continued, Jimmie Harris picked up his third foul, Watson his fourth. Meanwhile, Rod Welch wasn't just passing the ball anymore, he was starting to score himself. Giving Todd Lowenthal fits on offense.

        UC Davis Stats:

        CS Northridge Stats:

Keon Reid called a timeout and despite the foul troubles, brought in the twin towers lineup of Dedrick Watson and Leroy Youmans. He also put in Joe Harden. The changes helped shift the momentum, Youmans and Watson helped to slow down the Matadors. While on the offensive end, Harden and Lowenthal got hot. Harden was getting to the basket and getting fouled, while Todd Lowenthal was finding open bigs around the basket to pass it to or creating his own shot. The ten-point Matador lead was erased and with two minutes left, things were tied up.

At the two-minute mark, however, Jimmie Harris who had been helping slow down CS Northridge on defense fouled out. This put the Matadors in the bonus and back up two. On the ensuing possession, Jamaicus Winkfield stole a pass from Todd Lowenthal and passed it up to Andrea Garlepp for a fast-break layup. Donnie Parks turned the ball over again, giving it back to CS Northridge where Welch scored a layup to put them up six.

With a minute to go, UC Davis was down six and it looked like their chances at a conference title and NCAA tournament birth could be over. However, a quick pass by Todd Lowenthal up the court to an open Niemer Jefferson led to an open three. After a defensive stop, the Aggies got the ball with forty seconds left. Lowenthal took the ball up the court himself and shot a three from the top of the key tying things up. With the ball in the hands of CS Northridge and the shot clock turned off, erratic Keon Reid jumped on the sideline calling out defensive assignments, as the seconds ticked down. Rod Welch handed the ball off his shooting guard Andrea Garlepp who handled it, Welch ran to the corner finding himself unguarded. Garlepp threw it to him and Welch shot a wide-open three, missing it. With eight seconds left, the Aggies took the ball up the court, Todd Lowenthal drove toward the basket and was fouled. With 0.5 seconds left in the game, Lowenthal made his first free throw and then purposely missed the next. The shot clock expired and the Aggies moved on to the next round.

          Conference Tournament Overview

By Dennis Kirkpatrick - Senior Writer

Day one of the Big West conference tournament saw some surprising upsets and games that went down to the wire. Both the number two and three seeded teams were knocked off, while UC Davis the number one seed was pushed to the wire. Barely edging out eighth-seeded CS Northridge.

(1.) UC Davis vs (4.) Pacific

In their opening game against UC Irvine, Pacific was dominant throughout. Getting up twelve early in the first half. Senior guard CJ Morgan led the way with 26 points. UC Davis surprisingly struggled against CS Northridge, turning the ball over and getting into foul trouble. But they survived the challenge and won in the final seconds.

UC Davis swept their regular season series against Pacific this year, barely edging them out in both games. UC Davis's Junior point guard Todd Lowenthal played big in both, scoring 22 and 18 respectively. A player to watch for Pacific is Terrell Smith. Smith struggled in both games against the Aggies, playing well below his typical level. Yesterday against UC Irvine he put up solid numbers and is hoping to carry that momentum into today's game.

(6.) CS Fullerton vs (7.) Long Beach State

Both CS Fullerton and Long Beach State surprised fans yesterday, knocking off their higher-seeded opponents. Both teams had to play outside of their usual style to win. CS Fullerton's defense is what shined yesterday. As CS Fullerton forced UC Santa Barbara to commit 18 turnovers. Cedrick Pugh also stepped up scoring 15 points off the bench for the Titans. On the other side Long Beach State, who had been one of the lowest-scoring teams in the nation, outplayed Cal Poly offensively yesterday. Much of this can be attributed to Jerret Huffman, the junior center who played his best game of the year scoring twenty points and recording a double-double.

CS Fullerton and Long Beach State will be a clash of different play styles. The Titans are a fast-paced team who tries to rack up points, while the 49ers play at a slow methodical pace. However, yesterday both teams showed they can play outside their typical styles when needed. During the season, CS Fullerton and Long Beach State split their series. Each beating the other on their home floor.

Beating a team 3 times in the same season has always been tough for me for some reason but hopefully that's not the the case for you. I am guessing a 20+ win season and a tournament run could put you up for a promotion to a bigger school. I assume by your title you would stay on the West Coast??

What a game in the opening round! As a neutral, I hope there's more excitement to come.

As a non-neutral fan, I could use a game that's stressful at the end lol. It seems we're always in battles at the end of games.

I agree, I was really hoping not to face Pacific, especially since both games we played them this year were nail-biters. I think the coaching carousel might be a bit weak this off-season but I'll take a look at it. I am going to likely stay on the West coast wherever I go next but who knows, maybe there's a job offer out east that could entice coach Reid.

                  Jefferson Leads Aggies Over Pacific
                  March 11th, 2010

ANAHEIM -- Last week the Aggies beat Pacific by one in a game that went down to the wire. Today the two teams played to see who would advance into the Big West conference championship.

Out the gate UC Davis was hot, Niemer Jefferson hit an early three and the Aggies followed it up by getting a block on the other end. UC Davis played with confidence, working through their sets and finding open shots.

UC Davis who isn't known for it's defense, played stellar defense in the first half. Pacific was struggling to get much of anything going offensively, digging themselves a ten-point hole early. Terrell Smith struggled in particular. The Tigers star guard shot just 2 for 10 in the first half.

When the bench came in for the Aggies, just like yesterday Leroy Youmans stepped up. Youmans challenged shots and rebounded well, controlling things while Dedriclk Watson was on the bench. Another player that shined off the bench was Raymond Sims, who scored six of his eight points in the first half, while also blocking a shot.

                  UC Davis Stats:

                  Pacific Stats:

In the second half, the Aggies started back where they left off. Niemer Jefferson continued his offensive success. Scoring from deep and getting inside. His playmaking ability stood out as well. Finding open bigs in the post, he connected successfully with Donnie Parks and Dedrick Watson several times.

However, down by fifteen Pacific was able to start breaking the Aggies defense. CJ Morgan scored twelve of his nineteen points in the second half, while junior center Sam Williams continued to put up points in the post. Terrell Smith even hit a few shots as the Tigers attempted to fight off elimination. They forced Jimmie Harris on UC Davis into some bad shots.

With three minutes left, the Aggies lead was cut to five points. Coach Keon Reid continued to ride his freshman's hot hand, however. Looking to Niemer Jefferson who was able to get to the basket off a pick from Dedrick Watson. On the next possession Jefferson found Todd Lowenthal who had been quiet all night in the corner, Lowenthal hit a three. Cutting the lead back to double digits with two minutes left and effectively ending Pacific's hopes at winning the Big West. As the game ended, Senior guard CJ Morgan for Pacific collapsed onto the floor, as Aggies players celebrated their victory around him.

                        Conference Tournament Overview

By Dennis Kirkpatrick - Senior Writer

The Big West championship game is upon us. Today UC Davis and CS Fullerton will clash to determine the tournament champion. Yesterday was full of action as both games weren't decided until the final minutes.

(1.) UC Davis vs (6.) CS Fullerton

In their in-season matchups, UC Davis swept CS Fullerton. Winning both games handily by an average of eighteen points. There was no clear star for UC Davis in either game but they were able to slow down CS Fullerton's high-speed offense.

The Aggies and Titans come from different places in this tournament. UC Davis is the number one seed and pundits expected them to be here, playing for a chance to make their first-ever NCAA tournament. Meanwhile, CS Fullerton has been a surprise, stunning the higher-seeded UC Santa Barbara Wednesday, then beating Long Beach States defense yesterday.

Both teams have many similarities too, they both feature young rosters primarily comprised of underclassmen. They also both have high-powered offenses that can catch you by surprise on any given night if they're functioning at full speed. While many are expecting UC Davis to win, if they Aggies enter into this game unprepared or not expecting a challenge they will very likely leave with a loss.

This is what I'm imagining he's doing.

Really impressive two wins to open up the Big West tournament - hope the team doesn't overlook Cal State Fullerton in the championship! Going to be a tough game even if chaos left the #6 seed as the representative on that half of the bracket.

CS Fullerton, is definitely not a team to overlook. They have a few pretty good players and they have lots of shooting. Plus last year they gave me fits both times I played them.

Aggies Punch Their Ticket to the Dance at the Last Second
                              March 12th, 2010

ANAHEIM -- CS Fullerton and UC Davis knew what the stakes were coming into this game. Both teams had made their way through the season and the conference tournament, to find themselves only 40 minutes away from the NCAA tournament. Last year, CS Fullerton came so close only to fall short in the final game. While this years time is different and much younger than last year's, those who watched as their teammate's chance at glory slipped, still remember.

CS Fullerton came out firing on all cylinders, playing at a breakneck pace. Sophomore point guard Courtland Lee led the charge, pushing the ball up the court as soon as he touched it. He also hit UC Davis with an early three from the top of the key. Before anyone could blink, the Aggies were down 10-2.

The Aggies continued to play their game, however, working through their offense and trying to find shots. Looking to the one upperclassman in their starting lineup, Coach Reid went to Todd Lowenthal often early. Having him command the offense helping to calm everyone's nerves. Lowenthal was able to steady the ship, getting Aggies open and finding his own shots. Soon UC Davis was able to crawl their way back into the game.

Off the bench, despite putting up numbers that most would skip past without a thought, Raymond Sims made a major contribution. Sims showed out defensively, but more notably stepped up as a playmaker. Throwing passes through tight windows to open Aggies.

UC Davis eventually took the lead off a Donnie Parks mid-range bucket, they'd take it into the half.

                              UC Davis Stats:

                              CS Fullerton stats:

In the second half, a battle between two players emerged. J.S. Reid and Dedrick Watson fought it out in the post for almost the entire half. Scrapping for rebounds, fighting for position, and trying to muscle their team to the NCAA tournament. While the box score may lean heavily towards Watson when it came to scoring, J.S. Reid was magnificent defensively. Getting three blocks, but also challenging just about anything UC Davis shot around the basket. His passing ability was on full display also, finding his open teammates out of the post.

CS Fullerton was again able to build a lead, freshmen guard John-Michael Garlepp played a big part in this. Garlepp hit two threes early in the second half, while also dishing the rock around himself.

With two minutes left, UC Davis found themselves down six after a Preston Keeler layup. Joe Harden, connected on a pass with Niemer Jefferson who hit a deep three. Jefferson then fouled Keeler on the other end, Keeler missed the first, then sunk the second making it a four-point game. Todd Lowenthal pushed the ball up the court, finding Dedrick Watson open inside. After a miss by CS Fullerton, the Aggies got the ball with thirty seconds. Lowenthal took it to the rim himself this time. With things tied up, CS Fullerton held the ball letting the clock tick down. Courtland Lee who had led the Titans all night threw a pass that Donnie Parks jumped in front of stealing it giving the ball back to UC Davis. With one final possession in the game, Coach Reid went to his big man who had led them all night. Lowenthal threw it to Dedrick Watson in the post as the seconds ticked down. Watson turned his shoulder, putting up a shot, but J.S Reid slapped his hand fouling him.

With a second and a half left, Dedrick Watson stepped up to the line with the chance to send his team to the NCAA tournament. He dribbled twice, then sunk the first throw, then made the next. Cedrick Pugh put up the hail mary full-court shot and it banged off the backboard. UC Davis was headed to the NCAA tournament.
