              Too Much Mizzou
Tigers Depth Too Much For Ospreys

              Leo Lyons with a dunk.

              11/18/07
Columbia, MO (AP) – The Missouri Tigers are a pretty talented team with plenty of depth. It showed on Sunday evening as they pulled away late for an 80-57 victory over the University of North Florida. A 24-8 run turned a relatively close game into a rout down the stretch.

The Tigers started quickly in this one as they built a 32-11 lead just six minutes into it and this one looked like it was going to be “blowout city, baby” as a certain bald-headed color commentator might say. But the Ospreys settled down and worked the ball for better shots. They finished the first half on a 27-9 run to cut the Mizzou lead to just 41-38 at the break.

The second half as a diffrent story and resembled the opening six minutes of the game as the Tigers (1-2) outscored the Ospreys 39-19 and were never challenged in the final ten minutes.

Marshall Brown led all scorers with 15 points and he added 13 boards. Leo Lyons contributed 12 points and 10 rebounds.

North Florida was led again by newcomer Tom Hammonds who scored 10 points. Nouha Fisher and Chris Timberlake also chipped in 10 apiece for the Ospreys (1-2).

The Tigers shot 42% from the floor and outrebounded the Ospreys 45-36. North Florida also turned the ball over nine times while Mizzou turned it over just three times.

Up next for the Ospreys is a trip to Dallas to take on SMU (0-0) on Saturday evening.

              Missouri 80, North Florida 57

                      Narrow Escape
Seminoles Escape With Last Second Win.

Sheldon Hatten with the game-winning put back with 1.1 seconds left

                      12/3/07
Tallahassee, FL (AP) – The North Florida Ospreys gave Florida State all they could handle on Monday evening at the Leon Civic Center, but it wasn’t enough as the Seminoles escaped with a 64-62 victory. Sheldon Hatten’s put back with 1.1 seconds left gave the Noles their sixth win on the season.

The Ospreys (2-3) stunned the crowd and the Noles early as they led 30-25 at the break and led by as many as nine in the second half. But free-throw shooting doomed the Ospreys. Despite playing probably their best game in the Jim Janis era, they could not convert from the line and it cost them. They made just 19 of 38 free throws and only 8 of 18 in the second half to left the Noles off the hook and keep them in the game.

Despite their woes from the line, the Ospreys hung around and erased a six point defecit with 2:01 left and tied it on a pair of Jonson Yousevzadeh free throws with :43.7 left. North Florida got a steal from Germaine Sparkes with :19 left and fed Chris Timberlake for a layup but the senior from Tampa missed. That setup the Noles for their last second heroics.

After a Toney Douglas miss and a Taylor McIntosh miss on the put back, Sheldon Hatten grabbed the board and layed it in with 1.1 left to seal the victory and help Florida State escape the big upset.

Toney Douglas led the Noles with 12 points, 5 rebounds and two assists. Hatten had 8 points and 10 boards.

James Grimball led North Florida with 11 points and 6 rebounds in the loss. Nouha Fisher had 10 points, 8 rebounds and three assists and a couple of highlight reel dunks.

Florida State shot 42% from the floor but were just 2 of 13 from beyond the arc. The Ospreys shot 39% and went 3 of 7 from three point range. The Noles dominated on the glass, outrebounding North Florida 49-27.

The Ospreys will open conference play at home on Thursday evening as they host East Tennessee State (2-3).
