Can i be apart of the Hall of Fame comittee. If so, I nominate Jesse Burkett to be in the hall of fame. 341 lifetime average and doesnt make it to the hall because of a few hits.Rutgers Basketball Legacy: http://www.operationsports.com/forum...post2038691845Comment

1907 - MLB Year In Review
The American League pretty much saw a repeat of last season as the New York Highlanders grabbed the title for the second year in a row. It really wasn't much of a race as the Highlanders led St.Louis by 6 games and Cleveland by 7 heading into September and clinched the title with a week remaining. The Highlanders were led at the plate by Bill Keister, who batted .306 with 5 home runs and 58 rbi, enough to give him the Outstanding Batter award. Bill Bernhard and Addie Joss led the way on the mound. Cleveland rebounded from a dismal last place finish in 1906 to finishing only 6 games behind in second place. Second round pick Bill Grahame led the team in wins with 22 and was named Rookie of the Year. On a sad note, on opening day as he started the 5th inning, Boston Red Sox pitcher Cy Young threw a pitch and immediately crumbled to the ground. He suffered severe back spasms and did not pitch again this season. At the age of 40 years old, Cy Young, star pitcher in both the National and American Leagues, announced his retirement, finishing with a career record of 400-238 and was inducted into the Hall of Fame.
The National League was a different story although the results were the same. The Chicago Cubs dropped from 99 wins in 1906 to "only" 87 wins in 1907 but it was still enough to repeat as NL title holders. Heading into September, the Cubbies led Cincinnati by 5.5 games, Philadelphia by 7 games and Pittsburgh by 9.5 games. While the Reds and Pirates faded, the Phillies caught fire and weren't eliminated until the next-to-last day of the regular season. Doc Gessler was Chicago's best hitter as he batted .317 and drove in a league leading 79 runs in winning the NL Outstanding Batter award. The St.Louis Cardinals were the league's biggest improver as they improved by 13 games after winning only 60 games the previous season. Pitcher Walter Johnson continued to improve as he won a league leading 25 games and also had an ERA of 1.52 and struck out 216 batters, enough to win the Outstanding Pitcher award.
The Cubs fared differently as the World Series began. The teams split the first four games then Chicago won games 5 and 6 to become the world's champions by defeating the Highlanders, 4 games to 2 after losing by that margin in 1906.

1907-08 Winter Meetings
Announcements
Hall of Fame - The Election Committee has announced a few changes in it's criteria for instant induction upon retirement. The Committee stated that a position player with a career average of .300 or better now needs to have at least 2,400 hits. Pitchers who haven't accumulated 300 wins can still get inducted if they have at least 240 wins and have a career earned run average of 3.50 or lower. (Note: These changes were made due to the players seeming to retire earlier than they did in real life.)

I like it. I had started a 1901 Brewers but may do something like this now. BTW how did you get to more than six rounds in the draft? I'm probably missing something.Comment

Re: A History of Major League Baseball (1901-????) - a "what if" scenario - ootp7
On the first post I stated that the Amateur (First-Year) player draft was going to be up to ten rounds but also had the number 30 in parentheses because that is the max, i think, with ootp7. My draft rounds number each season will fluctuate based on the number of players coming in. For example, if there were 169 players coming in, the number of rounds will be 11 (10 rounds of 16 players (160) + 1 round for the remaining 9 players, a total of 11 rounds). If there were only 80 players coming in, there would be only 5 rounds (80 players / 16 teams = 5 rounds). If you can read this, thank a teacher.
