A's Sweep Senators For 10th Straight Win!
Columbia Park,Phila.Pa.-The White Elephants have trampled another victim, sweeping the Washington Senators with today's 4-3 10 inning victory. With the win,the Athletics have now won 10 straight games and 12 of their last 13 heading into their showdown with first place Chicago. As was the case with most of the series, the Athletics got on the board first with a 2 run double by Topsy Hartsel in the second inning giving Philadelphia the early 2-0 lead.In the fourth, the fans were treated to a spectacular home run by Harry Davis giving the A's a 3-0 lead.In was just the fourth time this season that a Philadelphia player has knocked one out of the yard, and the second time for Davis who was the league leader last season with 10.To their credit though, the Senators fought back, scoring twice in the 5th and once in the 8th to tie the game and send it to extra innings. In the 10th though, with Topsy Hartsel on second base thanks to an error by Senators third baseman Hunter Hill and a Hartsel swipe of second,A's catcher Tom Needham knocked a base hit through the middle scoring Topsy and ending the game with the home team ahead 4-3.Here's the box score.

      Re: The Philadelphia Athletics,1905 And On-OOTP 9

      Tuesday June 6,1905

Weary Bender Battered In 6-4 White Sox Victory
Columbia Park,Phila,Pa.-Riding high on a 10 game winning streak, the Philadelphia Athletics headed into today's game supremely confident that they would take down first place Chicago.Early on,it looked good for the A's as Lave CXross came through with an RBI double in the first and an RBI single in the third giving Philadelphia an early 2-0 lead.In the fourth, the White Sox cut the lead down to 2-1 on a Frank Isbell RBI single and finally in the 5th they took the lead for good, scoring 3 runs on 4 hits with the killer being a two out two run single by light hitting Billy Sullivan. The A's scored a run of the own in the 5th and ended the inning down 4-3.The White Sox made it 5-3 in the 6th on a massive home run by George Rohe paving the way for Chief Bender's exit from the game. Both teams scored a run in the 9th as Chicago went on to win 6-4.Here's the box score.

News,Notes,And Scores From The Rest Of Today's Games

Tuesday, June 6th, 1905: Joss Sizzles, New York Fizzles
Addie Joss of the Cleveland Naps really zeroed in on New York hitters at League Park I, blanking them 1-0 on 6 hits. Joss struck out 2, and gave up 1 walk in defeating the Highlanders.

This year Joss has a 8-4 mark in 12 starts with a 2.34 ERA. He has given up 75 hits in 104 innings, struck out 41 and issued 21 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .204 batting average against him.

Tuesday, June 6th, 1905: Detroit Loses Schaefer
After the end of today's game between Detroit and Washington, Germany Schaefer skipped the clubhouse and headed straight for the doctor's office. After he was removed from the game as a precaution after throwing the ball, the Tigers had their worst fears confirmed when it turned out to be more serious. The second baseman will miss at least 4 months with a strained elbow ligament.

So far this season, Schaefer has recorded a .223 batting average with 33 hits, 2 home runs, 7 RBIs, 21 runs scored and a .266 OBP.

        Re: The Philadelphia Athletics,1905 And On-OOTP 9

The Athletics seem to be on a roll as of late. The starting rotation seems to be carrying the team. Plank and Bender have been really good so far and so has that nutcase, Waddell.

          Wednesday June 7,1905

Fans Voice Their Displeasure As Athletics Are Blanked 7-0
Columbia Park,Phila.Pa.-In a downright embarassment of a game, the Chicago White Sox thoroughly outclassed the Philadelphia Athletics on their way to a dominating 7-0 shutout victory. On an overcast and rainy day,the A's seemed as though they'd rather be anywhere than at the ballpark as Chicago pitcher Doc White pitched 8 strong innings allowing only 4 hits and 0 runs while striking out 8 before leaving the game for a pinch hitter in the 9th,Roy Patterson finished the game with a perfect inning of relief. For Philadelphia, starting pitcher Eddie Plank was in trouble virtually the entire game allowing 11 hits but only 3 runs as he was time and again able to get the big out to keep his team in the game.In the 9th though, relief pitcher Joseph Myers was atrocious allowing 5 hits and 4 runs(3 earned) in just one inning of work ending any hope of a Philadelphia comeback,Myers may very well have pitched his last game in a Philadelphia uniform. Here's the box score.

Friday, June 9th, 1905: Injury Takes Toll, Chesbro Out
New York fans will be disappointed to learn that Jack Chesbro developed a strained rotator cuff muscle while throwing the ball in today's game. After the doctor informed the New York Highlanders manager that Chesbro was expected to miss 7-8 weeks, the manager told the press that the rest of the team would have to step up their play until the starting pitcher could return. "You can't make excuses in baseball, because there's always a game tomorrow," said the team's skipper.

So far this season Chesbro has a 6-5 record with a 2.42 ERA

Columbia Park,Phila,Pa.-Coming off of his worst performance of the year, the A's Chief Bender pitched a dominating 5 hit shutout to lead his team past a game Detroit team 3-0.The Tigers also got terriffic pitching from Frank Kitson who allowed just 5 hits, problem was though one was a solo home run by Schoolboy Knight who's now hit two home runs in limited action and another a 2 run single by Bris Lord which when combined gives you the difference in today's ballgame.Bender's record now stands at 9-4 while Kitson falls to 7-5.Here's the box score.

Sunday, June 11th, 1905: Steinfeldt out for 8 Weeks
Cincinnati fans will be disappointed to learn that Harry Steinfeldt developed a fractured wrist while being hit by a pitch in today's game. After the doctor informed the Cincinnati Reds manager that Steinfeldt was expected to miss 8 weeks, the manager told the press that the rest of the team would have to step up their play until the third baseman could return. "You can't make excuses in baseball, because there's always a game tomorrow," said the team's skipper.

This year Steinfeldt is batting .251 with 1 home run and 21 RBIs.

Sunday, June 11th, 1905: Cubs Star DTD with Injury
Reports out of Chicago indicate that Mordecai "Three Finger" Brown, the gifted starting pitcher, might be sidelined for 1-2 weeks or so with a finger blister. The 28-year-old star suffered the injury in yesterday's Giants-Cubs game while throwing a pitch. "It's a game time decision," noted the team doctor, "It all depends on how Mordecai feels later today. If he can play, he will."

In 12 starts this season Brown has compiled a 8-2 record and a 1.50 ERA.

Monday, June 12th, 1905: Chance Week's Top Player
There's nothing like being in the prime of your baseball career -- and playing like it. Just ask Frank Chance, the Chicago first baseman/Manager, who swung a sweet bat all week to not only aid his team, but also pick up the National League Player of the Week honors.

Chance piled up 8 hits in 19 at-bats, 1 home run and 4 RBIs while hitting .421.

Thus far this season in 45 games Chance is batting .318 with 3 home runs, 20 RBIs and 23 runs scored. He has 50 hits in 157 at-bats.

Monday, June 12th, 1905: Star of the Week Picked in AL
Addie Joss seems to put youthful exuberance into every pitch he throws and last week he threw up numbers that even the oldest of veterans would look at with envy. That's why the 25-year-old hurler was chosen the American League Player of the Week Award.

Joss notched 2 wins for the Cleveland Naps. He finished the week with 8 strikeouts and an ERA of 0.45 while holding the opposition to a .181 average.

His record this year is 9-4 in 13 starts and Joss has a 2.19 ERA.

Columbia Park,Phila.Pa.-Despite Harry Davis' 4th home run and a brilliant 11 inning pitching performance by Gettysburg Eddie Plank, the A's just could not get it done as Duff Cooley's RBI double in the top of the 11th led Detroit to a narrow 3-2 victory.Down 2-1 heading into the 8th,the Tigers got a game tying solo home run from Lew Drill that gave the Tigers staff another chance that they did not squander,as they held the A's to a mere single over the final four innings of the game with George Disch getting credit with the win in relief. Here's the box score.
