Re: NCAA 2004: Prestige to Challenge

DAMMIT! I wanted a new, good quarterback SO bad. Oh well... you know whose been stealing them year after year? Big Sandy... surprisingly enough. They have one QB with a 90 OVR, and another with 91 OVR, and then two freshman QBs. Hopefully Cooper (or Barrow) will have a big year and then I can get a quaterback. We'll see...

            OFFICIAL: Controversy
It has been confirmed that the head coach is unsure who to start at the quarterback position. Both Cory Cooper and Casey Barrow will have to compete for the job. "Barrow has made a lot of improvements lately and he just looks like he is on top of his game. While Cooper has done nothing to warrant him losing the job, college football is about winning, and we've got to play the quarterback who gives us a better opportunity to win." reports the UH head coach.

                  #20 Georgia (0-0) at #9 Houston (0-0)
This was one close game. Could Houston start off the right way? They would have to if they want to have a chance at achieving their dream of a National Championship.

                  1st Quarter
The coach went ahead and let Cory Cooper have the start at quarterback. Cooper was excited but got injured on the opening drive with a bruised shoulder that would force him to sit out a couple of quarters. Casey Barrow came in and filled in well. He led them downfield and from the four yard line decided to take it to the house himself as Houston grabbed an early 7-0 lead. Georgia came roaring back, however, scoring on a long pass from just outside the red zone to tie the game as the quarter ended.

                  2nd Quarter
Midway through the second quarter, Casey Barrow again helped the Cougars get down the field and he found WR Keenan Lawson for an eight yard touchdown pass. Georgia struggled on the next possession somewhat but still managed to find a way to get in field goal range, and cut the Cougars lead to 14-10 at the half.

                  3rd Quarter
Seemingly recovered, Cory Cooper came back in to play after the Houston defense forced a punt from Georgia. Cooper was extremely unproductive on two consecutive 3-and-out drives, throwing a total of 0 completions on 4 attempts. This caused the coach to yank him in favor of Casey Barrow. Both defenses held strong the entire quarter as neither team scored.

                  4th Quarter
Defense was the main course for the quarter once again but late in the fourth, Houston found a way to further themselves, capping a 96-yard drive with a two yard run by RB Jamie Mitchell to give them a 21-10 lead. Georgia threatened to score but CB Jason Harper came away with an interception.

                  FINAL: Houston defeats Georgia 21-10

                        Update
Houston defeated Tennessee 38-24 in a fairly exciting game. Casey Barrow played the entire game, and his TD/INT ratio for the game was 3/3. "Barrow seems to be doing the best at the moment. There is still a chance for Cooper to win his job back, but we have to stick with what's working at the moment." said the coach.

                              #8 Houston (2-0) @ Ole Miss (2-0)

                              1st Quarter
On the opening drive, Ole Miss looked strong after converting on 3rd & long. However, after failing to convert on their next third down try, they were forced to punt. Houston found themselves stuck in a 3rd & 19 position quickly, but Casey Barrow solved the problem by finding WR Bud Hartman for a 48 yard pass. They then completed the drive and ended it with a 22 yard pass to WR AJ Tucker. Ole Miss made a big mistake on their next possession and CB DeMarco Collins intercepted the ball and returned it 45 yardss for the touchdown. The Cougars found themselves with a 14-0 lead just as the first quarter was drawing to a close.

                              2nd Quarter
Early in the second, Ole Miss got on the board with a long touchdown pass to come within 7. Houston then responded with a very time-consuming drive. With just about thirty seconds left, Casey Barrow found Bud Hartman again-- this time for a 6 yard touchdown. The extra point was hooked and that kept it to just 20-3.

                              3rd Quarter
The defensive action began here. Both defenses stepped it up tremendously in the second half, which resulted in few successful drives for the respective offenses. Near the end of the quarter, however, Houston managed to make it 23-7 with a 26-yard field goal from K McClure.

                              4th Quarter
Again, defense persisted. Neither team went anywhere in the quarter. It was quite something.

FINAL: Houston defeats Ole Miss 23-7.

                              Mentionable Performances
