Re: NCAA 2004: Prestige to Challenge

    Update
The Houston Cougars barely edged Southern Miss 28-24 to keep their unbelievable season going full steam. The story of the day was RB Jamie Mitchell, who was finding holes left and right on his way to a 200-yard rushing day, as well as two rushing touchdowns. Houston is still undefeated, and no one can believe it.

    Straight From the Coach
"I told you all that this was the year that the Houston Cougars were going to make serious noise and become recognized for how far we've come over these last five years. We are going to keep charging ahead and do our best to remain undefeated and possibly bring the NC title to H-town!"

Houston: 9-0 - Undefeated and #2 has brought on dreams of winning a national championship!
    Next game: at Army (3-7)

HOUSTON COUGARS: Ranked #2 in the NCAA and having an incredible year!

      Update
Houston came out of their matchup with Army with a 35-7 victory. Fourteen of those points came with under two minutes left. One was after a turnover that set Houston up in excellent position and another was off of a Jason Harper interception that was returned for the touchdown. The team now is looking to continue their winning ways against the Cardinals of Louisville.

Houston: 10-0 - Starting off with ten wins is new to UH...
      Next game: at Louisville (7-3)

                  #2 Houston (10-0) at Louisville (7-3)
Could Houston keep up their winning ways? The game certainly started out well. On the opening kickoff, the Louisville returner fumbled and Houston recovered & took it to the house to put the Cougars on top 7-0 after just seven seconds of play. This seemed to inspire the Houston defense as they forced a punt on the Cardinals' next drive. After getting an interception, Louisville tied the game with an 85-yard touchdown score. The Houston offense could go no where and Cory Cooper started the day off horrible, throwing two big interceptions within just a quarter of play. Louisville could seemingly do no wrong on offense until they got near the goaline. They had zero problems moving the ball in the first half and finally, late in the second quarter, they made it 14-7 after a miraculous drive by the Cardinals including a few unbelievable runs and catches (literally ). They even converted TWO fourth downs, including one for a 17-yard touchdown pass in the back of the endzone to a WR who was blanketed in coverage but somehow came up with the catch. The fans in Louisville were going crazy seeing their team play like the '99 St. Louis Rams. Cooper finally started to come to life and led the Houston Cougars on an 81 yard drive culminating in Cooper hitting RB Jamie Mitchell for the 22-yard touchdown with 2 seconds left in the half to tie the game at 14. Houston got the ball first but went 3-and-out, mainly due to the offensive line allowing the DL to run right through on the first two plays to set up 3rd & 19. A good looking next drive ended after two more sacks. The head coach was absolutely furious as the stupidity of the big, massive, apparently useless uglies. Houston made it to just outside the red zone on their next drive, but fell short after yet another sack and then a dropped wide-open pass in the endzone. The Houston defense held strong, but you could tell they were even getting frustrated at the offense. After yet another good-looking drive, another sack ended the drive. The head coach remained calm this time... probably because he had used all his energy on the previous follies. Louisville scored easily as the defense decided to start replicating the offense's style of play. 21-14, and things looked bad for the Cougars as their offense was doing absolutely nothing. Cougars made it to midfield, but guess what?! The OL brought them back with a false start. Cougars went for it on 4th down and the OL felt this the appropriate time to give up sack #7. The Cougar defense intercepted the ball, but sack #8 kept Houston from moving anywhere. It was almost heartbreaking to watch the #2 team in the nation get b****-slapped by an unranked team and play so utterly pathetic. Louisville added another score to finish them off and seal a legitimate win over what appeared to be an EXTREMELY over-rated Houston team.

                  Final: Louisville wins easily 24-14.

                  Straight From the Coach
"Unbelievable. Of course I blame myself for this loss, but I just can't *BLEEP*ing believe our offensive line played that way out there. It was just a jaw-dropping experience to witness the horrible blocking, or lack thereof. Not to mention penalties and all sorts of things. So, if I didn't blame myself for this loss, I would definitely pin it on the offensive line as they kept us from moving the ball forward today. But, like I said, I do blame myself for the loss. And all I've got to say to UAB is 'Watch out.' Because we are going to score as much as we can and we're not *BLEEP*ing stopping until they make us stop."

Houston: 10-1 - No NC at all after Louisville uses them for TP!
                  Next game: vs UAB (2-9)

HOUSTON's embarassing loss bumps them down to #10 in the NCAA.
