      Update
Houston came out of UAB with a 20-0 victory as well as the C-USA title as they went undefeated in conference play [8-0]. The highlight of the game was QB Casey Barrow tossing an 86-yard touchdown pass to WR AJ Tucker. Houston had a little bit of a running game which is why Barrow completed just 6 passes on 14 attempts, but for 191 yards and a touchdown.

Houston: 9-3 - C-USA winners and now they get a bowl bid...
      Next Game: TBD

            Bowl Bid Update
Thankfully Houston did not get stuck in a 3rd consecutive Houston Bowl. Instead they will be playing in the AXA Liberty Bowl!! They play a worthy opponent in #24 Utah.

                        #24 Utah (9-3) vs #13 Houston (9-3)
The AXA Liberty Bowl. Utah would receive the ball first. On their first play, the QB dropped back to pass and FS Jake Weese came up to make the sack and force the fumble. DT David Boswell jumped on the ball at the Utes' 9 yard line to set Houston up with excellent field position. They would settle for a field goal after an impressive showing by the Utah defensive squad. Houston would force a punt on Utah's next possession. Midway through the first, Utah failed to score after hooking a field goal attempt. Houston remained in the lead 3-0. Early in the second quarter, Nix intercepted the ball at the Houston 26 yard line to prevent a score. A long interception return for a touchdown gave Utah a 7-3 lead. Barrow was knocked out of the game with a sprained elbow. Houston offense was stalled for the rest of the half. In the second half, the head coach went against his better judgement, thinking he needed a little more mobility at quarterback. He put in Aaron Anderson over keeping Dustin Ray in the game. Late in the third quarter, Utah threatened but Weese intercepted the ball in the endzone to stop any chances of a score by the Utes. Once the fourth quarter started, the coach had seen enough and put Dustin Ray back at QB. Houston's offense was going nowhere at all this game. Another Dustin Ray interception set Utah up with great field position. After stopping the Utes on fourth down, Houston got one more chance. Ray threw an interception. Should they get another chance, Aaron Anderson would be given the nod. Jason Mullins intercepted the ball at the UH 45. 3 and out after a sack and two straight drops by a wide open AJ Tucker. What is it with these WR's hands? Do they not know how to catch the ball? Houston was given one last chance after Olson intercepted the ball at the Houston 30. One timeout left... one minute and thiry-five seconds left... 70 yards to go. Could Aaron Anderson lead a miracle comeback in the final seconds of the AXA Liberty Bowl? No. Three incompletions and a sack. The offensive line just looked like a big waste of space out there as they were ineffective.

                        FINAL: Houston loses 7-3

                        Straight From the Coach
"Our offense just went nowhere today, that's all. We couldn't move it past the 50 yard line and you just have to credit Utah's defense for that one. I'm not going to sit here and say that Casey Barrow's injury cost us the game. Credit goes to Utah for beating us in a close game out there. That defense is tough. Dustin Ray will not be with the team next season."

Houston Cougars: 9-4 - Lose to finish the season...
