Re: NCAA 2004: Prestige to Challenge

    Straight From the Coach
"Our last game of the season this week at home against UAB. We are very capable of winning this game and it would be a good way to close out the season. A win would also put us just over .500 for the year, which I would personally consider a success. Aaron Anderson will get the nod for starting quarterback. Let's hope the Cougars can pull off a victory to go out on!"

Good stuff Bonez. Good luck to the Cougars in their upcoming games against the Blazers of UAB.

I'm in my 3rd year with A&M, and plan on leaving either after this season or the next to try and turn Army into a decent team. I'm thinking of doing a journal like yours. Yours is definately very well done.

            UAB (5-6) at Houston (5-5)
The game was televised for some odd reason. UAB took a very fast 7-0 lead. Looks like Houston was packing up early. UAB failed to convert 3rd & 8 and punted it to the Cougars. With 1:40 left in the half, Varnado made it 7-3. UAB made it 14-3 at the end of the half with a miracle reception. The Houston coach was going ballistic. It was 14-3 at the half. The ballistic speech must've done something because Houston came out in the 3rd quarter and scored a touchdown off a Chance Brown reception and it was then 14-10. UAB failed to convert on 4th down, giving Houston the ball at the 37 yard line. UAB made a lucky INT off the tip. They missed deep on a 3rd & long. Then Houston fumbles in their own territory. Brilliant guys... brilliant. UAB turned it into a 17-10 lead. Nealy began warming up on the sideline but Anderson would stay in. Houston failed to convert on fourth down. Derrick Barry dropped a wide open pass. "I just didn't watch the ball. I was thinking about the offseason." he remarked after the game. On 2nd and 22 with over 4 minutes left in the game, Tommy Austin made a great 23 yard catch, but was injured on the play. Thorburn fumbled at the 10. He would definitely be the Donkey of the Game should they lose. Houston stopped them and would get once chance left with just over 2 minutes. The drive started at the UAB 45. No excuses. Barry dropped another wide open 4th down pass to effectively end the game. Someone was quoted saying they saw the head coach verbally threaten Barry after that horrible performance.

            FINAL: UAB embarasses Houston 17-10

            Straight From the Coach
"Boy, talk about horrible performances. TE Derrick Barry is top of the list to get cut in the off season. I'm not going to put up with that kind of rediculous crap. You don't drop TWO wide open 4th down passes. I can understand if you're covered, but wide open? TWICE?! That just says it all right there. A dismal 5-6 season is a failure in my mind. I just hope I can get a tiny bit of talent in here through recruiting and have a better chance next year. There is going to be some serious revenge had."

Re: NCAA 2004: Prestige to Challenge

Thanks for the compliments, Easton. 5-6 is definitely not what I envisioned for my first year as U of H head coach. I was really hoping at finishing above .500 but as you can see, I did not. Problem is-- I had lots and lots of opportunities that were squandered. This is something that'll need to be addressed in the off season. Again, thanks for the compliments on the journal.
