    Starting Pitchers
    NYM - Al Leiter
    CHC - Kerry Wood

In a matchup of number one starters, the New York Mets hoped to knock off the team with the best overall record in the MLB, the Chicago Cubs.

In the early going, Wood seemed to be having trouble with the New York batters. Reyes singled to lead off the ballgame, and the Mets 'surged' to score two runs in the first two innings of play against Wood. After that, however, it was all over for NY. Wood settled down, and the Cubs' offense heated up, scoring EIGHT runs off of 5 home runs. The Mets pitching and defense was almost nonexistant, and just watched as the Cubs beat them 8-2.

    WP - Wood (3-0)
    LP - Leither (1-3)

    Reyes - 2-4, Run
    Piazza - 1-4, 2B, 2RBI

    Sosa - 2-4, HR (4), 2B, 2 RBI
    Lee - 3-4, HR (4)
    Alou - 2-4, HR (2), 2B

      Starting Pitchers
      NYM - Tom Glavine
      CHC - Greg Maddux

Former teammates and lifetime buddies Tom Glavine and Greg Maddux hooked up in this one, as the Mets were looking to rebound after a loss to the Cubbies the night before.

Again, the Cubs pitching was outstanding. Greg Maddux provided a little change of pace for the Mets' hitters, who were unable to hit consistantly enough to stay in reach of the Cubs. Chicago, on the other hand, hit the ball extremely well, and scored another eight runs in this contest. Late in the game, when it was getting out of hand, the Cubs subbed in a lot of bench players, and easily took this game with the score 8-0.

      WP - Maddux (3-1)
      LP - Glavine (0-2)

      Phillips - 1-3
      Cameron - 1-3

      Sosa - 1-2, HR (5)
      Lee - 3-5, HR (5)

That's pretty funny. Nice Dynasty. I love to hear how they Mets do in this game considering some of the improvements that they made. How is Matsui doing for you? What's wrong with Leiter?

Matsui is doing GREAT .. batting around .413.

I don't really know what's wrong with Leiter. Thing is, he does really well for most of the game, but he always has one bad inning that kills him.

The Mets traveled to the left coast to take on the struggling Dodgers, who are still trying to get on the right track.

After Kaz Matsui and Jose Reyes singled to begin the game, the New York offense seemed to hit a brick wall for awhile. Ishii sat down numerous batters in a row, and the Mets had no answer for him offensively. The Dodgers too were having problems hitting the ball, and the game looked to be a pitcher's duel to start with. However, in the later innings, the New York offense erupted. Reyes got a couple more hits, sparking a six run effort by New York. In the end, the Mets took this one easily, 6-2.
