Seattle plays mostly interleague games in June, and all of them are big games. They start off with a road trip to Florida, a team that has improved since 2004. Then, the M's play Washington, a team who is only one game out of first in the NL East. The Mariners then come back to Safeco to take on Philadelphia and the New York Mets, a couple of powerhouse teams also out of the NL East. Seattle should be considered a part of the NL East for the month of June. The M's finish off interleague play with a three game series against San Diego, a team Seattle swept last month.

              The Seattle Times

Seattle took on the Devil Rays for the second time in two weeks, and had the same result. A three game sweep. The Mariners increased their winning streak to 15 with three wins over Tampa Bay. In a series that was suppose to have former M's skipper Lou Pinella pay a visit to Seattle, instead had newly promoted John McLaren as the Rays manager, as Pinella was fired last week. Both Richie Sexson and Adrian Beltre had two home runs in the series.

Bobby Madritsch picked up win number six in a 7-2 win over Tampa.

Seattle Only Two Wins From History
                  The Seattle Times

The Mariners are only two wins away from tying the American League record for most consecutive wins in a season. The 2003 A's had 20 straight, and right now the Mariners sit at 18 wins in a row. "It's been unbelivable, I'm just as amazed as everyone else," said M's manager Mike Hargrove. The MLB record for consecutive wins belongs to the Cubs who had 26 straight. The M's were lucky to pull of the sweep over Florida however, all three games were decided by one run, and two of the three went into extra innings.

Rafael Soriano picked up his 6th win in the series, he has been the anchor of the M's bullpen.

                  Game One - Seattle 4, Florida 3
                  WP: Arthur Rhodes (1-0)

Carlos Delgado (FLR) - 2-4, HR, 2 RBI, Run

Jeremy Reed came through with a huge single in the top of the eighth giving the M's a 4-3 lead. Arthur Rhodes then shutdown the Marlins in the bottom half of the inning and Eddie Guardado closed out the game for the win. Victor Martinez was 3 for 4, but has been in a huge slump lately. He only has one home run and 21 RBI's, compared to 10 homers and 46 RBI which he had this time last season.

Chris Snelling (FLR) - 2-5, HR, RBI, SB

Former Mariner Chris Snelling hit his first career home run in front of his old team. Snelling was traded to Florida last month for Miguel Cabrera. The home run wasnt enough though, Jeremy Reed had another great game going 4 for 6 and the Mariner bullpen was again impressive, helping Seattle get the win in eleven innings.

                  Game Three - Seattle 4, Florida 3 (10 Innings)
                  WP: J.J. Putz (3-0)

Juan Encarnacion (FLR) - 1-4, HR, 2 RBI, Run

Bobby Madritsch went nearly eight innings, struck out four, but still fell short of win number seven, as Juan Encarnacion had a clutch two run homer sending the game into extras. In the tenth inning however, Adrian Beltre had a solo home run giving the Mariners the win and their sixth straight sweep. Seattle's last loss was against the Yankees, May 18th in Seattle. Even with the current 18 game winning streak, the Mariners are still one game behind the 2001 M's who won 116 games.

Player of the Series (Offense): Adrian Beltre, 8-13, HR, 4 RBI, 2 2B, 5 Runs

Bobby Madritsch went nearly eight innings, struck out four, but still fell short of win number seven, as Juan Encarnacion had a clutch two run homer sending the game into extras. In the tenth inning however, Adrian Beltre had a solo home run giving the Mariners the win and their sixth straight sweep. Seattle's last loss was against the Yankees, May 18th in Seattle. Even with the current 18 game winning streak, the Mariners are still one game behind the 2001 M's who won 116 games.
