Whatever momentum the Syracuse Orange gained from their thrilling last-second win last week, it is already gone. Syracuse, who was minus starting running back Jerome Smith due to back spasms, looked flat on offense all day. Despite starting the day 12/19 passing, Ryan Nassib disappeared when the team needed him most. The senior finished just 6 for his final 21 attempts, missing open targets by great distances in crunch time.
The Bearcats pounded the ball on the ground effectively all game, running for almost 270 yards. The Orange had issues on runs mainly up the middle today, as the Cincinnati runners had huge holes at the line to run through. It was an ugly game for the Orange, as they put up a season low 10 points. Hopefully all they need is some home fans to play in front of and their starting running back to return for their next matchup. They will host Louisville in their last home game of the season.
Ryan Nassib tried to thread the needle here, resulting in a poorly timed interception.

It was ugly at times, but in the end the Syracuse Orange held on to beat the Louisville Cardinals 26-22 on Senior Night at the Carrier Dome. Jerome Smith ran for two touchdowns in the 4th quarter, and ran for 138 yards in the game. Ryan Nassib played mistake free football, but seems to have regressed from his early season accuracy.
Jeremy Wright led the Cardinals (6-4) with 167 yards rushing and two scores. Wright ran untouched in the 1st quarter for 68 yards, tying the game at 7. Quarterback Ted Bridgewater was very ineffective all game until he was knocked out in the 3rd quarter with a rib injury. Backup Will Stein played well in his place, throwing a touchdown pass and moving the ball well.
For the Orange, they had to move the ball in the 4th quarter without star receiver Alec Lemon. Lemon left the game with a leg injury and did not return. There is no word on whether Coach Mettler excepts him to return next week when the team visits Missouri. The Tigers are currently ranked 24th in the country.
Jerome Smith breaks free on a 68 yard touchdown run in the 1st quarter.
Marcus Sales turns to catch a ball thrown by Ryan Nassib.
Jerome Smith tumbles into the end zone for the game winning score.

Re: Ripening Some Oranges - NCAA 13 Cuse
Notre Dame in Talks to Join Big East
Over the past few weeks there have been rumors swirling about Notre Dame being in talks to join the Big East. While there were discussions between the two parties, interest was never thought to be mutual. However, that is not the case. The Big East and Notre Dame are working out the specifics of a possible move in 2015 for their football program. The Irish, who currently rank #8 in the BCS, would give the conference a powerhouse team to help keep them a BCS conference. Keep in mind, nothing is final yet. There are still plenty of details to be worked out, but according to a source "a lot has to go wrong at this point for the transition not to happen."

It was a fine farewell party today as Syracuse played their last Big East Conference game today at Temple. Alec Lemon took the opening kickoff untouched 101 yards to set the tone. The Orange jumped on the Owls early and often, jumping out to a 38-0 halftime lead. Syracuse would go on to win 51-21 and will finish this year with an impressive 8-4 record. This is just the 2nd time since 2001 (2010), that Syracuse has won more than six games in a season.
Ryan Nassib had his best game of the season, throwing for over 350 yards and four touchdowns. Alec Lemon, who caught 11 passes in Missouri last week, followed up with 8 more receptions for 176 yards and an 80 yard score.
Despite getting crunched on the play, Ryan Nassib's pass found it's way to David Stevens for an early touchdown.
Alec Lemon celebrates his 80 yard touchdown at the end of the first quarter.

Re: Ripening Some Oranges - NCAA 13 Cuse
Penn St Booted from Big Ten
How far they've fallen...
Today's big story in college football comes from Central Pennsylvania, where the Big Ten has announced Penn St will be removed from the conference beginning in 2013. The move was made after news came out about the University's lack of proper action in dealing with the crimes of former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky.
The Nittany Lions, who finished 2012 at 7-5, are schedule to play Texas Tech at the Insight Bowl in Arizona this week. The team will play as an independent in 2013 while they search for a conference willing to take them in down the road. This leaves the Big Ten in a predicament of having just eleven teams in the conference. At this time, Notre Dame seems like a good fit, due to the fact that a deal has still yet to be finalized with the Big East. If the Irish do decide to go to the Big East, BYU could get strong consideration due to the fact that they aren't in a conference currently.
It should be interesting to see how the future of the Big Ten changes over the next few weeks. One storied franchise is out, who will get to fill their shoes?
