    Holgorsen on Hot Seat

    - Despite leading his team to a 5-1 record in 2013 and ranked in all three major polls, West Virginia is considering letting coach Dana Holgorsen go at the end of the season. Holgorsen had a rough year in 2012, finishing with a 5-7 record and last in the Big 12. His lack of top recruits has led the board of directors to rethink their future with him as their head coach. The coach still has another year on his contract, but needs to get his team into a big time bowl game in order to keep his job.

Syracuse has signed two more recruits, one of which is the twelfth best player at his position. The teams first four star recruit of the season, defensive end Chance Rose has committed to Syracuse. Rose is 6'4", 259 pounds and a great all around player. He has great pursuit, and is solid is all other areas of his game. There were at least 10 schools pursuing Rose, with Michigan, Texas and Notre Dame being his other top choices. The Orange also found a tackle this week. Charles Grey, a giant at 6'8, isn't the most mobile guy. He is a solid run blocker who will likely be red shirted next year.

Was hoping I could get another game or two in but thanks to two halftime freezes in a row I have to put the dynasty on hold. Hopefully I'll get the internet up at my new place early in the week and be able to resume without too much of a delay.

Re: Ripening Some Oranges - NCAA 13 Cuse

          (3-3) @ (3-5)

In a rematch of the first game coached by Kevin Mettler, the Syracuse Orange were able to defeat the Northwestern Wildcats for the 2nd year in a row. It was a much different game then in 2012, where the final score was 36-20. Today, the combined score of the two teams was less than Northwestern's total from that game.

It was a quiet first half for the most part, with both offenses having issues picking up first downs and sustaining drives. Syracuse would get on the board first in the second quarter, recording a safety to take a 2-0 lead. The Wildcats tried to roll out quarterback Kain Colter, and ended up doing so right into a corner blitz. The Orange were able to pull off a useful two minute drive to end the first half, tacking on a field goal to go to halftime with a 5-0 lead.

Northwestern changed things up to start the 2nd half, and successfully drove down the field to score their only touchdown of the game on a long 14 play drive. They would end up going for the two point conversion and were not able to punch it in up the middle. After both teams traded three and outs, the Orange were able to put together their own scoring drive. Adrian Flemming beat his man on a post pattern, setting under a nicely lofted pass by Jonathan Fox. It would be all the points that Syracuse would need, as they went on to win 13-6.

Syracuse moves to within a game of .500 now, and will face a Rutgers team that has been extremely streaky all year. The Knights currently sit at 4-4, with all four wins coming in a row from weeks four through seven. They've lost two straight, and are coming off a much needed bye week.

Kain Colter is sacked in the endzone for the Orange's first safety of the year.

Jonathan Fox looks for options and finds Adrian Flemming for the touchdown.

            Wisconsin rolling towards perfect season

            - While there are four undefeated teams left in the 2013 season, it has become apparent that the Wisconsin Badgers are a step above the rest. The Badgers have dominated a very tough Big Ten all season, winning every game by at least 15 points. The Badgers have scored over 50 points three times, and have yet to allow more than 24 points in a game. The team easily disposed of now #5 Notre Dame, #9 Michigan St and #10 Iowa by a combined score of 98-37. It is scary to look back on what this team has accomplished, and what still may lie ahead.

Wisconsin can thank many for their success so far this season, but quarterback Dan O'Brien has to top the list. O'Brien is third in the NCAA with a 179.0 passer rating, and fourth in touchdowns with 22, compared with just 2 interceptions. His 63% completion percentage is also 4th in the NCAA. Sharing is the name of the game for the rest of the offense. Four different runners have scored at least three touchdowns. For the receivers, six different players have caught a touchdown, with Jared Abbrederis and tight end Jacob Pedersen hauling in seven a piece. Will the Badgers (or any of the other undefeated teams) finish the season perfect?

              (4-4) @ (4-5)

With the blowout loss from last year fresh on their minds, the Syracuse Orange played a much better game tonight against Rutgers. Thanks to a late interception by freshman Scott Johnson, the Orange were able to hold on to a 17-10 victory in New Jersey.

Jonathan Fox completed 77% of his passes today, and is starting to get mention for the All ACC and even All American rookie teams. Another freshman, running back George Morris is making the most of his opportunities. Morris has been stuck way down on the depth chart all season, but with Jerome Smith out, has been given some carries the last two weeks. What's most surprising about Morris, is how comfortable he looks in the passing game. The Georgia native led the team with 68 receiving yards, and has 6 receptions in the past two games.

The Syracuse defense continues to show vast improvement over the past month, holding the team which hit the 50 point mark a year ago to just 10 points. Shu Mungwa was all over the field today, leading the team with 11 tackles. Dyshawn Davis added 8 tackles and a sack as well. Even with the 0-3 start to the year, Syracuse has scratched their way back to .500. Splitting the last two games (Wake, Pitt) would make them bowl eligible for the 2nd straight year.

George Morris hauls in a pass deep down the sideline.

Prince Tyson Gulley struggled to find running room, but was able to score a touchdown here.

#2 Texas comes back to beat #3 Oklahoma St

Mike Davis was a man among boys in the fourth quarter.

There's a new number one in town. Despite handily winning their own matchup and improving to 9-0 this season, the Wisconsin Badgers found themselves looking up at number 1 in the polls today.

The Texas Longhorns welcomed the Oklahoma St Cowboys in what was the biggest game on the calender this year. Both teams came into the game without a loss, and it was a game that did not disappoint.

Oklahoma St took control early, building a 23-7 lead at halftime behind two J Walsh touchdown passes. Texas took over the game in the fourth quarter however. Senior Mike Davis caught two touchdown passes, including the game winner with 1:46 to play in the fourth quarter, propelling Texas to the #1 seed. Davis finished the game with 9 catches for 101 yards and two scores.

The Orange have received a commitment from running back Will Coker. The Hicksville, NY native is the 71st best halfback prospect in America, and is known as a power back. Coker fills one of two spots which will be vacated by Syracuse runners after the season.

Re: Ripening Some Oranges - NCAA 13 Cuse

I have decided for anyone interested that I will add 5 CAP's to my dynasty starting next season and will follow their progress throughout the dynasty. I will take the first 5 that sign up, if more sign up that's fine you will be implemented in 2 years. I plan to use a random number generator with a weighted system to determine what your star level will be. Out of 1000 numbers, you will have a 50/1000 chance to be a 1 star, a 150/1000 chance to be a 5 star, a 300/1000 chance to be a 2 or 4 star, and a 500/1000 chance to be a 3 star. This will be an approximation as I can't directly create a player to be a certain star level. I will keep this information hidden until your recruit has committed to a school. Sound fun? Join in today!

                      (7-2) @ (5-5)

Experts around the nation pegged tonight's matchup as a possible upset special at the Carrier Dome. Wake Forest, while showing a very good 7-2 record, hasn't played a team who currently has less than 3 losses, and were headed into a hostile Central New York environment. It was heartbreak central for the Orange today however, as they fell to #17 Wake Forest 24-17 in overtime. After winning the toss, Syracuse elected to go on defense first. Wake drove down the field and was able to convert on a screen pass on 3rd and goal to score a touchdown. The Orange would commit a false start on a 2nd and 5, and Jonathan Fox went on to throw three straight incomplete passes to end the game.

Bowl eligibility is still in reach, with the team playing for their postseason lives on senior night against old foe Pitt.

Dyshawn Davis jumps this curl route and takes it back all the way for six.

Jarrod Foster takes a moment to reflect after his touchdown catch.

Orville Reynolds easily scores the game winner in overtime.

FIU and East Carolina to ACC; Buffalo and Toledo to Big East in 2014

East Carolina should be able to handle the big move, the fans will show up for sure.

There was news today on the future alignments of some major football conferences. The ACC will be accepting Florida International and East Carolina University from Conference USA beginning August 1, 2015. FIU enjoyed a great season in 2012, and were ranked for a short time this season. While they don't have a very strong tradition, the ACC felt adding another team from Florida would help in drawing fans from the SEC. East Carolina will round out the conference to give them 16. The Pirates are having an off year, currently sitting at 4-5. There is a stipulation that will allow the ACC to remove either team after two years if need be. In order to maintain membership in the ACC, FIU and ECU must record 10 total wins over the two year stretch.

On to the Big East, where the conference announced the additions of Buffalo and Toledo starting in 2014. With Navy joining in 2015, it is obvious that the conference is looking to get one more member to join in with them. Toledo and Buffalo are both enjoying successful seasons in the MAC, and the Rockets are actually ranked 25th in the coaches poll. With one more win, the Bulls will be bowl eligible for just the 2nd time in the programs history. Part of the move will require Buffalo to play any of their televised games at Ralph Wilson Stadium, home of the Buffalo Bills.

Finally, there is talk among the SEC about removing bottom feeder Vanderbilt and going after a stronger program to affirm is status as the nations top conference. At this point, this is only a rumor, but the Commodores could benefit from a move to a weaker conference. The team is just 1-9 on the season, having not won a conference game yet.

Sadly, something went wrong after this. I'm not sure how I missed it, but this is the only part of my update that made it into the post. I had the rest of the tables made, don't know what I was doing. Big update forthcoming anyway so we'll keep this short.

Despite a terrible start to the season, the Orange are bowl eligible. Syracuse cruised to a 31-21 win on Senior night, putting the team right at .500 on the season. Jonathan Fox threw for over 300 yards, including an 89 yard bomb that put the game out of reach in the 3rd quarter.

Syracuse has started using Adonis Ameen Moore as their feature back, due to his more rugged skill set. Moore ran the ball 19 times for 81 yards and a score and really moved the ball well in the 2nd half. Syracuse set the tone on their first drive of the game. The team embarked on a 15 play, 76 yard drive, converting all five of their 3rd down opportunities. It was the teams most complete game of the season, and hopefully the momentum can stay with the team until their potential bowl game.

Brad Willis caps off an impressive Freshman year with another interception.

Jarrod Foster outruns his defender after hauling in a bomb.

Adonis Ameen Moore has stepped up bigtime in the absence of Jerome Smith.

                                Orange Land Four Star Receiver

Jarrod Foster will have some help in his receiving corps next year.

With 2013 coming to the close, some fans have begun to look to next year to see what the roster will shape up to be. There is one position that Syracuse could be very deep in next year; receiver. The only senior in the corps is slot man Adrian Flemming. While Flemming has had a nice year, with 422 yards and 4 touchdowns, he is certainly replaceable. Jarrod Foster and Jeremiah Kobena will return for one more season, and freshman Tim Little should be much more involved in the gameplan next season.

Syracuse has now recruited a 4 star wide receiver to report in 2014. Mike Gallagher, a native of Shields, Michigan, chose the Orange over five other teams, including Michigan. Gallagher stands exactly six foot tall, and could become the burner on the team once Kobena leaves next year. He is the 23rd ranked receiver in the country, and should avoid a redshirt his freshman year.

The Orange have also signed their third running back of the year, a Vermont native by the name of Antonio Williams. Williams was also considering Michigan, but chose to play closer to home. He is a very shifty back who doesn't have great speed. He will need to work on his pass blocking during his time at SU, but should develop into the future feature back of the team. Here is a list of all Syracuse recruits so far. The team still has 9 scholarships available to use in the offseason if they'd like.
