Hard Hits and Injuries to Both Sides.
Raiders Come Up Just Short, Lose 19-16
This game could have gone either way, and perhaps it would have gone the Raiders' way if the offensive line could have protected their QB better. Pryor didn't get sacked, but that was only because of his mobility and quick trigger. Unfortunately, he couldn't find his targets because of the pressure and with Cobb leaving the game to an injury, he was left with all rookie WR, none of which could step up and get the job done.
The pass defense continues to have it's up and down moments. On the down side, they gave up almost 300 yards to Dalton through the air. On the up side, they picked Dalton off twice and sacked him 3 times.
Each team was able to manage just one touchdown. The Bengals got theirs when Dalton found his rookie WR Ravonne Winters in on a long pass for the score. Carillon got beat off the line in press coverage and could not recover.
Pryor threw a TD pass, hitting Tony Moeaki for a score just before halftime. The Bengals did a squib kick, but Moeaki had a pretty good return on it to put the Raiders on the plus side of the field. Three plays later, Pryor throw the TD pass.
Despite the inaccurate day, Pryor threw just one interception, and that came with 20 seconds left in the game with the offense backed up. The poor protection broke down again, forcing another hurried throw, and it was costly.
The run defense had some struggles containing ex-Raider Larod Stephens-Howling along with Jacquizz Rodgers. McClain and Bailey were doing most of the work, both racking up a dozen tackles on the day. Although both picked up a solid number of yards, no rushing TDs were allowed.
Stevan Ridley continues to be a disappointing replacement for Caulder, despite what looks like similar skills. Grant started getting more of the workload, but perhaps it was just a bad day by the offensive line in general. Grant did have a few long runs to help his yardage total.
The loss knocks the Raiders down to 5-3. Given what looks like a competitive Wild Card race already, the Raiders can't afford to give up too many games.
