Re: Rebuilding the Fear - Oakland Raiders M13 CCM

    Bengals Win Hard-Fought Game
Hard Hits and Injuries to Both Sides.
Raiders Come Up Just Short, Lose 19-16

This game could have gone either way, and perhaps it would have gone the Raiders' way if the offensive line could have protected their QB better. Pryor didn't get sacked, but that was only because of his mobility and quick trigger. Unfortunately, he couldn't find his targets because of the pressure and with Cobb leaving the game to an injury, he was left with all rookie WR, none of which could step up and get the job done.

The pass defense continues to have it's up and down moments. On the down side, they gave up almost 300 yards to Dalton through the air. On the up side, they picked Dalton off twice and sacked him 3 times.

Each team was able to manage just one touchdown. The Bengals got theirs when Dalton found his rookie WR Ravonne Winters in on a long pass for the score. Carillon got beat off the line in press coverage and could not recover.

Pryor threw a TD pass, hitting Tony Moeaki for a score just before halftime. The Bengals did a squib kick, but Moeaki had a pretty good return on it to put the Raiders on the plus side of the field. Three plays later, Pryor throw the TD pass.

Despite the inaccurate day, Pryor threw just one interception, and that came with 20 seconds left in the game with the offense backed up. The poor protection broke down again, forcing another hurried throw, and it was costly.

The run defense had some struggles containing ex-Raider Larod Stephens-Howling along with Jacquizz Rodgers. McClain and Bailey were doing most of the work, both racking up a dozen tackles on the day. Although both picked up a solid number of yards, no rushing TDs were allowed.

Stevan Ridley continues to be a disappointing replacement for Caulder, despite what looks like similar skills. Grant started getting more of the workload, but perhaps it was just a bad day by the offensive line in general. Grant did have a few long runs to help his yardage total.

The loss knocks the Raiders down to 5-3. Given what looks like a competitive Wild Card race already, the Raiders can't afford to give up too many games.

        Week 10 - Midweek News

        College News:

Illinois LT Wade Gaspar struggled in his game against Northwestern, giving up two sacks on the day. Pundits think this will drop his draft stock significantly.

        Awards:

NFC DPoW: Lions DB Sean Jones
AFC DPoW: Patrioits LB Brandon Spikes
NFC OPoW: Bears HB Matt Forte
AFC OPoW: Chiefs QB Matt Cassel

        Oakland Scouting:

-QB Wade Schumacher's projected draft slot is now mid-1st round.

-Though the Raiders figure to be set at HB, Sylvester Sanders from UCLA might be worth a later pick as a flyer.

-CB Jeramiah Jones from Lousiville has great zone coverage skills for a college player, and probably for the pro game as well. Problem, though, is that he's not a very cerebral player, relying on his athleticism to carry him through games.

You thinkin' Schumacher in the first if he's there? He sounds too good to be true, haha.

Can you draft him if he has no wheels?

He has 73 speed - so I can live with that, especially with 99 THP and maybe some points in TOR.

Scouts have him at 73 SPD, 99 THP, 80 SAC, 81 MAC, 83 DAC, 85 PAC.

AWR is C? grade right now, and I don't have the points to unlock it, but unless it's crap, I can't see why I wouldn't grab him in the first. I'd be willing to trade up for sure. It would cost, but to solve a position like QB, it's worth it.

That said, if Aaron Rodgers hits FA market this offseason...I will pursue him like Ray Lewis does running backs.

Rodgers is basically my ideal pocket passer, if you want to call him that (I don't but I also consider Steve Young mobile). 80 SPD with insane throwing ratings.

What's really crazy is RG III is rated so that if someone pumped points in his AWR and that's it, he's basically a faster Aaron Rodgers that's "slightly" less accurate (and you could get all his accuracies to 90 without too much effort as they are 88). That's a bit much...

But it's also why I considered offering 3 1sts to get him...

Schumacher sounds like a sure thing. Trading up for that would definitely be worth it. His THP and ACC are ridiculous.

If Rodgers doesn't get tagged, I'd go after him with everything. Of course, it'll probably only take about $100 million

That shouldn't even matter as AWR shouldn't factor into QB while you are using a coach CCM.

I believe AWR has some impact on how defenders react to your passes.

Sort of the game's way of modeling bad decisions. Same with traits like Force Passes (modifies INT chances) and Sense Pressure (accuracy modifier while under pressure).

Could be wrong, but based on M12 and using a few different guys in other CCM games, it seems to be there.

Either way, C is no worse than Pryor.

Well, I have that kind of space right now - $63 M in cap space. So $20 M a year, no big deal.

Of course, I forgot all about that franchise tag LOL.

                      Raiders Hold On
Raiders Survive Doug Martin, Sloppy 4th
                      Quarter to Beat Bucs 37-23

Early on, it looked like the Raiders would be in severe trouble. Doug Martin was ripping up the defense, picking up over 10 yards per carry and had 100 yards by the end of the first quarter, including a long touchdown run.

The pass coverage was looking shaky as well, with Joe Webb having a 70% completion percentage. Meanwhile, Pryor was struggling to find receivers as he was forced to throw the ball quickly. But, again, he avoided both sacks and interceptions in this game.

What turned the tide was Brandon Madison making a nice interception on a crossing route intended for Austin Collie and bringing it back for a TD. The Raiders got another TD after a Pryor hit Marcel Reece on an angle route and the FB rumbled into the end zone for a 52-yd score.

Things settled down after that action-packed first quarter. The game turned into a duel of run games for a while. Martin was starting to slow down and McClain, who had an overall poor day with just 6 tackles, forced a fumble that the Raiders recovered. The Raiders tacked on a TD off that fumble to rookie WR Daniel Raymond on a beautiful throw that victimized ex-Raider CB Ron Bartell.

Things got crazy again in the 4th quarter as the Raiders started getting the running game going. While powering ahead for yardage, the running backs got sloppy with the ball. Steven Grant lost two fumbles, which is surprising given his excellent ball handling skills (94 Carrying). Randall Cobb lost another in the quarter. One of those fumbles was returned for a defensive TD by FS Sherrod Martin.

The Raiders defense stiffened and shut down Joe Webb as he had to pass to try to get the Bucs back in it. He couldn't do much with the ball and the Bucs did not score again. The Raiders abused Bartell for a 2nd time, this time Randall Cobb beat his press coverage to find his way into the end zone, where he got the Pryor bullet for the touchdown.

The win moves the Raiders to 6-3, keeping the pressure on the division-leading Broncos.

                        Raiders News:

                        Scouting

Not a lot of news in the scouting department, but there was one prospect worth writing about. HB Tyrone Dore from North Carolina is a rare combination of speed and the ability to run over defenders. Scouts, for now, have him rated at "A" for speed and trucking. The downfall is his awareness and inconsistent ability to find a hole. This oddball running back might be worth a 7th round pick, where he's currently projected.

                        Notable Progression

                        MLB Jake Olsen:
                        PRC: 87 to 89

                        LT Jared Veldheer:
                        PBK: 86 to 87

                        CB Brandon Madison:
                        AWR: 35 to 39

                        SS Tyvon Branch:
                        POW: 78 to 80

                        CB Randall Cobb:
                        RTE: 78 to 80

                        FS Archie Bracey:
                        PRC: 61 to 63
                        AWR: 31 to 32

                        QB Terrelle Pryor:
                        MAC: 77 to 78
                        AWR: 65 to 66

                        HB Steven Grant:
                        TRK: 78 to 79
                        AWR: 73 to 74

                        Roster Notes

Marcel Reece and Matt Mulligan will swap roles again, just like last season, until TE Tony Moeaki is recovered. This places Reece as the #1 TE and Mulligan at FB.

With Moore returning, Cobb moves to #2 and McCants will get first shot at being slot WR. Raymond, though, is starting to stir interest.

The team is going back to straight 4-3 concepts, but with all MLBs. At least, that's how the trio of Olsen, McClain, and Bailey are listed. Coach Lyle said he will try to keep them on the field as much as possible, including in certain passing situations. Lyle also said to expect a lot of LBs in Nickle situations, meaning Worilds will still the field in all likelihood, along with Tevin Ash - two pass rush specialist LBs - in the OLB slots.

This also means that DT Tommy Kelly will move back inside. DE Lamarr Houston will remain at LE while speedy DE Quinterrius Fields will return to action at RE with Shaughnessy to back up, when needed...and he probably will be with Fields' lack of endurance.

Wow, 1 game 3 players of the week. Dull week in NFL lol.

Nice win, although I wish players of the week were a bit better picked, seems defensive players only get a shot at it if they score a TD. I know I had a guy with like 11 tackles 1FF 1 sack and an INT but no TD, and lost it to some CB who had 1 tackles and a pick 6. Do you notice this, I was almost thinking of going for each box score each week and doing my own, but those box scores are not very in depth for my dynasty.

Yep. Seems to go Defensive TDs, INTs, Sacks, then everything else for DPoW awards.

Brandon Madison did next to nothing other than that pick-6. I would have picked Lavonte David for the Bucs or Barron.

Great Effort By Ivory Not Enough
Raiders Defense Scores Twice, Stifle Newton
En Route to Intense 25-22 OT Win Over Panthers.

Raiders have been seeing a lot of their former teammates and Ivory was next in line...and he nearly made the Raiders pay. The Raiders tried their best to kill the spirit of the Panthers running game, but they, and Ivory, would not be deterred. Ivory rolled up over 200 yards on the ground and scored 3 TDs, two on long runs, on over 40, yes, FORTY carries.

Unfortunately for him, he got no help from his backups and his QB. Newton threw 2 INTs including forcing a pass backed up along his goal line at Shaquille Carillon jumped on and ran back the short distance for the tying touchdown. At that point, Newton was suffering from the constant pounding he was taking, both on straight drop backs as well as on scrambles and designed runs.

Rolando McClain made up for his terrible game last week with some of everything in this one.

His first play stopped a Panthers march down the field. Newton called for one of the several Wildcat plays the team would see and sniffed out the hole the back was going to use and drilled him at the right time to knock the ball into Lamarr Houston's palms. Houston then showed his 'speed' and got down the field for a TD fumble return. The two-point conversion failed, leaving the Raiders ahead by 12-7.

Rolando McClain forces fumble, and Lamarr Houston is right
                              there to capitalize.

Next big play by McClain came on a tipped Cam Newton pass and he was in the right spot to snatch the ball out of the air. Unfortunately, the Raiders could only muster a field goal with the excellent field position, but the score put the team ahead by 8 at 15-7.

Then Chris Ivory struck again. The Panthers marched down the field again, and tiring defense was trying to hold on. After being pounded inside, Newton used some trickery to flip the ball outside to Ivory, and he pretty much walked into the end zone once Bailey was forced into a bad position and could not recover. The Panthers put up the 2-point conversion that the Raiders could not, and the game was tied at 15.

Raiders offense could not find any momentum and Pryor threw his lone INT on the day on a really bad throw trying to hit Moore on a post route. The throw didn't have a chance and was an easy interception for the free safety Haruki Nakamura. The Raiders were able to stop the turnover from costing any points.

The next Carolina points came from the second of Ivory's long runs. This one was out of the Wildcat, and the Raiders gambled, looking for the loss and possibly a safety. However, the formation mixed up the rush lanes for the defense and Ivory found a hole to take off in. With everyone selling out, there was no resistance, and the Raiders could only watch Ivory take it to the house for a 22-15 lead.

Both teams had a hard time moving the ball and sustaining offense after that, but that played into Carolina's hands. After a Lechler punt, the Panthers were pushed up against their own goal line. The Raiders came out in the same 46 formation as last time, but this time were playing the usual man-across coverage. Newton thought he had an opening, but big Vince Wilfork closed it up quickly.

The next play was McClain's third huge play. Newton was about to sneak out and escape, but McClain, allowed to spy as the Panthers left Ivory in to protect against the constant weakside blitzes coming from Olsen and occasionally Brandon Madison, saw Newton on the move. Newton tried to misdirect McClain, but he was having none of it and closed the gap for a loss, considered a sack since the play was designed as a pass.

Newton attempts escape but McClain closes the hole for the sack.

This play led to the biggest one of the game. Newton dropped back to pass and thought he had a quick-hitter to Steve Smith, but Shaquille Carillon was playing inside position and attacked the pass. He grabbed the interception, and then sprinted around to the outside and into the end zone for the tying touchdown.

Shaquille Carillon makes his biggest pick of the season to this point.

This led to overtime. Panthers won the toss and, of course, elected to receive. The running game started up again, led by Ivory. However, the Raiders defense rose up and forced a third and long after a few first downs. Newton completed the pass, but was forced to throw hot as Brandon Madison came again on a nickle blitz from the weak side. The throw led the receiver, Greg Olsen, out of bounds. He caught the pass, but was short of the first down marker.

Panthers punt and it was a good one. Cobb gave an effort but the coverage team kept him to just a few yards return.

Raiders turned to Caulder, who had 94 yards on 26 carries. Not the best day for the halfback, but not bad for returning from injury. Caulder was able to put together some of his best runs of the day, mixing inside and outside runs to get the offense started. Steve Grant, who saw a light workload, mixed in a couple runs including one that got just enough on a 3rd and 4 to keep the drive alive.

Pryor then turned to the air and went to Denarius Moore. Moore made 4 catches on the final drive, including two difficult receptions. Cobb got into the act as well, making a catch for a first down. With the offense on the Panthers' 22-yard line, Lyle decided to send Janikowski out. The 39-yard FG was good and the Raiders earned a hard-fought victory.

The win starts a 2-game winning streak on the heels of the three-game streak they had snapped two weeks ago. At 7-3, the Raiders have taken control of 1st place in the AFC West, but the Chiefs, the team's next opponent, is 6-4...making the next clash between the two AFL rivals one that determines what the top of the division looks like.

Nice win, close and a surprise from a 1-8 Panthers team. Are you sure Newton wasn't concussed and thinking Carillon was a Panther?
