Re: Rebuilding the Fear - Oakland Raiders M13 CCM

Yeah, not getting Thomas or Cobb really hurts. I might have to make a trade after the draft. Trade one of these young WR and a pick or something like that.

Yeah, Matthews did go for less than what the "sticker price" said. I think when all the interest dried up, he lost his leverage. Probably should have moved back in, but at the time, there were 11 teams interested in Matthews, and I had to make a decision. No one was looking at K.J. so I decided to try to move on him.

Thanks - good offseason, marred by losing out on WR.

That Super Bowl was something else - stung to lose it, especially after the rally. Oh well, motivation for the coming season!

          NFL Draft
Raiders Expected to Target QB Due
          to Tougher Schedule

          Round 1

          1. CAR - HB Nicholas Shinn (the Panthers love them some running backs)
          2. SEA - QB Eric Rancour
          3. DET - LB Jordunn Abrams
          4. PHI - HB Rannell Moore
          5. NYJ - DT Reggie Stokes
          6. NYG - DE J.T. Newkirk
          7. SEA - LB Hamid Arrington
          8. IND - traded to DEN - DE Algernon Dixon
          9. OAK - QB Wade Schumacher
          10. OAK - DE Keiwone Walters (considered a reach by some - not that Lyle cares)
          11. CHI - CB Devin Thomas
          12. BUF - TE John Quigley
          13. ARI - LB Cedric Coley
          14. SD - traded to BAL - DE Robert Morris (turned off teams in interviews, but is considered a versatile DE, though more of a speed rusher at the core)
          15. ARI - RT Harlos Ray
          16. TEN - DE Booby Hardy
          17. MIN - DT Daniel Ryland
          18. JAX - trade to CIN - RG Billy Wilson
          19. DAL - trade to BUF - CB Robert Legania
          20. KC - DT Ryan Murphy
          21. SD - traded to MIA - TE Evan Matthews
          22. ATL - SS Spencer Hood
          23. BAL - traded to NYJ - DT Mike Bozeman
          24. MIN - CB Alexander Quezada
          25. PIT - LT Wade Gaspar (considered an elite prospect, he struggled in middle of the season before picking back up at the end of the year)
          26. NO - traded to PIT - CB Corey Rathman
          27. JAX - WR Corey Gooden
          28. TEX - traded to DAL - WR Donquell Nickell
          29. ATL - traded to PIT - LB Doral Miller
          30. NO - traded to KC - LT Mason Maggitt
          31. ATL - LB Joshlin Collins
          32. PHI - traded to BUF - HB Josh Morgan

Skip Bayless called this a weak first round without a lot of star power.

Storyline players picked in later rounds:
MLB John Lugo - 2.5 CHI (this kind of kid makes me which there were off-field issues in this game - good talent, bad personality)

          HB/FB Hank Delaney - 2.24 SEA
SS James Caruso - 3.21 JAX
WR Howard Moore - 4.9 TB
DT Jesse Ackerley - 6.23 STL
WR William Dowd - UDFA (ouch)

          Raiders Picks in Later Rounds:

          Round 2
          No selection

          Round 3
via CAR 3.1 CB Heston Hill (traded WR McCants, OAK 2016 5th)
          3.31 MLB Adrian McGruder

          Round 4
          4.31 C Sergey Wainwright

          Round 5 & 6
          No selection

          Round 7
Some kid that wasn't even on the draft board.
WR Darryl Beatty - 6' 5", 233 lbs. Talk about big WR...

(Well...at least Todd McShay thinks this was an awesome pick)

Next is my favorite time of year - Preseason! Never know who's going to be out there, who got left behind from the draft, who might be a nice little hidden gem.

            LOVE the Peterson signing.

That's funny that DET got Abrams. I tried to get him in mine, but missed out.

This team is going to be a force if you can nab a WR

WR Steve Smith will have to wait.

              Key Ratings for Drafted Kids

QB Wade Schumacher - 99 THP, 80 SAC, 81 MAC, 83 DAC, 68 RUN, 85 PAC, 75 AWR, 73 SPD - Likely starter - "battle" only in deference to McCoy's success last year.

DE Keiwone Walters - 90 PMV, 84 BSH, 85 PUR, 86 PRC, 85 TAK, 90 POW, 72 SPD, 90 STR, 80 AWR - Instant starter. Looks like a pure beast.

MLB Adrian McGruder - 85 TAK, 89 POW, 82 SPD, 80 AWR, 91 ACC, 86 BSH, 76 PUR - He needs a little work, but as reserve LB/Special teams player, not bad.

CB Heston Hill - 84 MCV, 65 ZCV, 83 PRC, 63 PRS, 75 PUR, 73 CTH, 95 SPD, 93 ACC, 85 AGI, 84 AWR - not quite a starter for us, but a real good prospect.

C Sergey Wainwright - 84 RBK, 80 PBK, 85 IBL, 96 (!) STR, 68 ACC, 84 AWR - might be our RT right out of the gate...

              WR Darryl Beatty - 87 CTH, 86 CIT, 89 SPC, 61 RTE, 91 RLS, 96 JMP, 86 SPD, 74 STR, 82 ACC, 30 AWR - physical, strong...and athletic and somewhat slow?

              Raiders Signings

Raiders wanted to fill out some roster spots (and actually get some tight ends), and signed the following:

WR C.J. Gortman - one of those "grab bag" UDFA players that showed up during the draft. Incredible speed and pretty solid hands - just needs to learn the routes...and maybe where to lineup...project for sure.

TE Joel Dreesen - like Tony Moeaki...except not made of glass.

TE Richard Gordon - He returns to the team. Used mostly as a blocker in the past.

TE Kevin Parnes - Grab bag type player. Seems like he might could be molded how ever the team needs...with time...and patience.

FS Antrel Rolle - Veteran safety to help out while Bracey continues to learn.

Gortman is a solid talent, I really hope you can develop him better than I have in my five games with him. He seems to have worse hands than his rating indicates. Dunno if that is something AWR might effect?...

Really like your new players though. Wainwright is going to be a fixture on that OLine and Walters is going to be a beast.

I am curious to know what your team was rated for your last season (offense, defense, team overall) having made it to the Superbowl.

                  Thanks

I'll admit to not following sim stats closely in this year's version, giving how screwy they are - but I know the team was #1 in sacks by a few (Texans were #2 - Eagles were top 10), among the top in points allowed and fumbles recovered, and top 10 in yards allowed. Bad in Red Zone %, but mostly allowing FGs.

Offense, not very highly ranked overall, though we had an elite rushing performance in yardage. Best thing about the offense otherwise was 3rd down conversion (#1).

Actually what I meant was the numerical rating the game gives you that you see when beginning a game or when progressing players using XP ( eg offense 80, defense 82, team 77).

I am attempting to find out if these numbers correlate to anything. I find it interesting that (in the instance of my team) my team's value is lower than either of my offensive or defensive values. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense...

HB Alfred Morris (are we the only power run team in the league or something?)

                        Week 4 news:

                        Broncos sign LB James Harrison

Schumacher shows leadership in tight game, pulling out a win late. "It was good to see the guys go out and fight, " Schumacher said.

The Steelers, Packers and Redskins finish the preseason at 4-0.

Colts rack up 6 sacks. Even LaVar Arrington thought that was a bit much.

(The game keeps wanting to put Paris Cooper, Mike Mitchell, and Tony Bergstrom on the trade block...do they want to be traded? Is that what it's trying to tell me? Guess I could play it that way - say Cooper, especially, isn't happy about Peterson coming, not starting, having to play safety, etc)

                          Defense: 84
                          OVR: 82

Yeah, mine is always lower - I wonder if that's the "base" (i.e. non-scheme-adjusted) rating? Same reason why OVR in the depth chart during a game is different than the scheme-adjusted one you see in the CC.

That does look rough...and early bye week, too. Ugh. So any injuries after the start of the season...no one game break.

                              Week 1 - Midweek News

                              NCAA Football News:

Kentucky QB Ronald Dunson is the odds-on favorite for being top pick in the draft right now.

Always quiet to start week 1 after the chaos of preseason...

                              Raiders News

                              Scouting:

Okoye Jones, Clemson. Put the kid's name on the bulletin board because this is one of the Raiders' top targets. The team often scouts the top-billed WR and usually comes away disappointed. Not this time. Looks to have top-level speed, very strong for a WR, and has the ball skills you want. Route running is rough as he seems to be used mostly on streaks, slants, and curls - simple routes to execute. Top 10 projection at this point, so the Raiders will most likely need to trade up...unless they do that poorly this year.

And...the team might have found a nice consolation prize...in the low 7th round projections? " 'Scout the top and the most obscure.' That's we're told every year, and it usually uncovers some kids that fall through the cracks, " one scout spoke.

WR Fabian Favors, Massachusetts, is nearly projected to be Mr. Irrelevant, but he looks to have speed, hands, ball awareness, and actually runs a more diverse set of routes than Okoye Jones. That said, there would be more than enough room for two quality prospects on this roster...

Duke linebacker Davarius Bullock has the team's eye in the early going. Like Tevin Ash, Bullock is...not good...in coverage. However, he rates well on early looks everywhere else. He brings the hammer down when he tackles and he plays with good instincts and vision on defense. Plays in a hybrid front as well - something the Raiders are leaning towards themselves. A 3rd round projection.

Free safety Tony Rucker (Stanford), looked appealing on first glance. But after watching some junior year game tape, he plays more like an aggressive outside linebacker than a safety. He's got low instincts, and basically plays chase-and-tackle defense - something you might expect from an OLB, especially a blitzing/attacking LB, but not so much in a safety. So far, considered a 5th rounder.
