Re: Rebuilding the Fear - Oakland Raiders M13 CCM

That TD pass to Moore was one of the coolest animations I've seen on M13

Can you put up a clip of Caulder at some point? I want to see this BA.

    And holy Flacco..

      Rolando's Raiders Strike
Secondary Clamps Down on Tebow, McClain
Clamps Down on Green. Raiders Win Over Jets, 25-15

Another mixed day for Pryor, but he, like the rest of this offense, does enough to overcome mistakes. He threw 3 interceptions, all of them due to the overall strong coverage the Jets had on his receivers, especially Moore.

Still, Pryor and Moore found a way to make a big play. The QB saw some space behind Moore, who was running a slant. Pryor rolled out to buy some time, and lofted a ball towards that space. Moore saw the ball and adjusted, catching it in stride - a stride that would not be broken until he crossed the end zone. It was the major part of his 125-yard day. Other than that, however, Moore had just 4 catches for an unimpressive yardage total.

Jacoby Ford also made one big play. He caught a deep pass in the end zone, having just enough separation from Cromartie to be able to make the reception. It was one of his two catches on the day. Those two plays accounted for 124 of Pryor's 269 yards on the day.

Aside from that it was an 11 of 26 day for 145 yards. Not exactly confidence boosting.

Fortunately, Tebow couldn't finish a drive. Another day where the defense holds a team to nothing but several field goals, The Jets moved the ball decently, especially in the first half. Shonn Greene was running with ferocity, racking up 50 yards in the first quarter alone and Tebow was being conservative with his passes, taking enough to covert first downs. But in the red zone, he couldn't make plays and the defense closed in on Greene more and more as time went on.

Still, the Jets were down just 18-15 heading into the fourth quarter. The Raiders got the ball and started trying to run clock with Caulder. The rookie sensation was warming up as the game went along, finding his groove after a 2nd quarter power run for a TD.

Caulder's TD in the second quarter got the Raiders on the board.

He continued doing his thing for much of the game, but would then leave with a concussion after a Bart Scott hit. Caulder was highly upset that he couldn't come back into the game. He argued with his coaches, including Lyle who tried to explain the NFL rules regarding player safety. Caulder stormed off, kicking the football that was on Janikowski's warm-up tee into the first row seats - much to the joy of the fans seated there.

"He's a tough kid, he just couldn't understand why he couldn't go back in and run. He was saying, it's 'hold the football and run', how much of my brain do I need for that?" Lyle commented, "It was especially bad as we were looking to close out the game."

Caulder's power running got the offense in rhythm, but left with
concussion-like symptoms in the fourth quarter.

With Pryor down and Jones in the dog house for multiple fumbles, it came down to Brandon Bolden. But Lyle must didn't like that idea as he called for an aggressive play, a deep pass. Pryor executed on the play, producing the Ford TD and that gave the team some breathing room.

Meanwhile, McClain was racking up tackles and Tevin Ash started getting into the act as well when the Jets tried to run outside. Even the Wildcat didn't provide consistent success, though it did produce a 28 yard run as McClain took a mis-step, leaving a gap up the middle.

Still, the Jets needed to move the ball quickly. Tebow had already thrown one interception in the quarter to Sheldon Brown. However, with time running down, the Jets had little choice. Tebow tried to air out a pass deep to Stephen Hill, who had a step on Sheldon Brown. Michael Huff, however, tracked down the pass and was able to come away with the interception.

But it was not easy for the Raiders to close out the game, mostly because they didn't have a running back that was reliable. Given the situation, though, Bolden was given the chance, and he did a pretty solid job. There was a scare - two, actually. One, he fumbled the ball, but Locklear was there to save the offense. Then Bolden got hurt.

Not knowing the extent of the injury, Lyle pulled Reece from TE to HB for a couple plays. Reece relished the chance and picked up a first down on a hard run before Bolden was cleared to return. The second-year HB finished the job by picking up another first down to seal the game. He picked up 48 yards on 8 carries - impressive fill-in duty, aside from the fumble.

Taiwan Jones refused to comment when reporters tried to talk to him after the game. He was visibly upset. Jones not only got passed over for the late game carries, he was removed from punt return duties after committing a muff on a return, which led to the other turnover on the day.

Despite the ugliness of the win, it was the Raiders' 11th win, and 4th in a row. The last three games have been tight, and one wonders how much longer the Raiders can keep dodging their offensive mistakes. Right now, though, the Raiders have their division with the win and are tied with the Steelers at 11-4 atop the AFC. The winning streak will face a tough test to end the year as Aaron Rodgers and the 9-6 Packers are next on the schedule, and they need a win.

Re: Rebuilding the Fear - Oakland Raiders M13 CCM

        Containment Good Enough
        Raiders Don't Stop Rodgers, But
Contain Him. Offense Does Enough. Win 24-12

The "containment strategy" seems to be working. For now. The team held a "cold" Rodgers to 271 yards and "only" 71% completion percentage. But they did hold him out of the end zone.

The defense also forced three turnovers and were on point on 3rd down - the two biggest reasons why the team came out on top.

Pryor...found a way. Another "50/50" day, but this time it worked out for 3 TDs on a day where Julio Caulder was himself contained by Clay Matthews and company.

Otherwise, the offense was, on paper, outplayed. They gained just 8 1st downs in the game to the Packers' 19.

They did hit Rodgers, but that didn't slow him down. If anything, it got him mad and he adjusted by finding shorter throws that the Raiders couldn't stop. He also fit the ball into some tight windows.

And, of course, Rolando McClain was the defense's enforcer. He kicked things off with a quick forced fumble against Danny Woodhead. Pryor turned that into 7 points three plays later with a short pass to Marcel Reece.

Woodhead would fumble again on a Rolando McClain hit, one that knocked McClain himself out of the game for a little while.

But, again, the offense couldn't find a way to turn the momentum into a full blowout. They let the Packers hang around. If it wasn't for Ford getting behind the secondary and Pryor buying time to let the route develop - it might have been a different game.

That score made it 24-12, and that's how the game would end. Rodgers threw an INT on the Hail Mary pass, but it just looks good on Shaquille Carillon's football card.

The win puts the Raiders' season at 12-4, running the table after the upset loss to Jacksonville. This should give the Raiders home games and a bye week in the playoffs, bringing up the age-old question: Do you want to have a bye when your team is rolling?

The offense has to be concerned, however. Caulder struggling is not a good sign, neither is producing all of 227 yards of offense. While the down day for Caulder could have just been the result of the Packers' ferocious linebackers, Pryor's "will he/won't he" play can't be so easily dismissed.

"Yeah, today he did well. What about in the playoffs? He's followed up games like this with 1 TD and 3 INTs. Who knows. And heaven help us if Caulder goes down, even for just the game. Wouldn't trust Jones to carry my dog, let alone the football in a playoff game, " an analyst commented.

"I'm concerned more about Moore, " another analyst commented, "He's been shut down for the most part in three straight games. Some say, 'He has just faced tough corners, ' but I think it's just the offense. They can't feed him to get him in the game and it takes him out of rhythm. And don't get me started with this new trend of letting the opponent stay on offense 35 minutes per game."

Questions do abound, but right now the fans are excited about seeing playoff football.

                      Raiders Withstand Late Push
Defense Scores a TD, Stops Key 2-pt Try
                      To Secure Win 29-24

The first half of the game was a defensive struggle. Caulder got probably his best run of the game in the first quarter, scoring on a 8 yd run. After that, there would be nothing but field goals on either side. The Bills kicked 4 field goals in the first half.

This Caulder 8-yd run was the only offensive TD by either
                      team in the first half.

The Raiders had just one field goal, but got a defensive touchdown by dime cornerback Joselio Hanson when Fitzpatrick tried to force a pass in the flat. That put Oakland up 17-12 at the half.

The Bills took the lead as Mark Clayton beat Michael Huff along the sideline for a 41-yd touchdown pass. The two-point conversion failed and the lead was 18-17.

Michael Huff abandoned his coverage to help against the post, leaving
Stevie Johnson alone for an easy TD reception.

The Raiders struck back as Pryor and Reece connected for an 82-yard pass play. The Raiders also tried and failed a two-point attempt, making the score 23-18.

Marcel Reece makes another big play, retaking the lead for
                      the Raiders.

The Raiders got a FG on a drive that probably should have ended up with more, leaving the Bills within one possession still at 26-18. Then the Raiders moved the ball again after Sheldon Brown came away with another interception. Another field goal made it an 11-point cushion.

But Fitzpatrick continued attacking. With time running out, he pushed the ball downfield and his receivers made nice catches. In the end, Stevie Johnson out-jumped Paris Cooper for a pass in the end zone, giving the Bills hope.

Paris Cooper is inches too short to stop this excellent TD
                      pass from Fitzpatrick.

They lined up for another two-point conversion, and use a misdirection play to Spiller to get to the outside. It looked like a walk-in success, but McClain was able to read the play and turn away Spiller just outside the goal line.

McClain's key stop prevented the Bills from drawing to withing a FG
                      of tying the game.

The offense overcame a second slow day for Caulder, although he did pick up some key yardage late. Still, the offensive line has been beaten off the ball lately. Looks like aggressive linebackers as well as powerful defensive tackles might be something of a weakness that's getting exposed. Fortunately, Pryor was efficient in the passing game, and used his mobility to pick up a couple first downs.

"I'm proud of the guys fighting like they did and getting us a playoff win. It felt good to have the fans cheering us on, giving us energy to keep pushing. We have to get ready for the Conference Championship, the mountain doesn't get any easier to climb, " coach Lyle spoke.

Indeed it does not. Next up is are the Steelers, who also finished 12-4, and the game is in Pittsburgh.

                          Force OT and Win 30-27

Whatever it is, moxy, magic, smoke and mirrors, it continues to work. The team still has not suffered a defeat since the loss to Jacksonville during the regular season and withstood several close games during this stretch, and now the team is heading to the Super Bowl after getting put into a hole.

Early on, it looked like it would be a close, hard-hitting affair. The teams battled to a pair of field goals in the first quarter as both running games tried to get going and Rothlisberger wasn't in a groove.

That changed in the second quarter. Big Ben was finding his targets and the Raiders were trying to figure out a way to defend. They had little success and gave up a TD to Demarcus Smith to fall behind 10-3. Rashard Mendenhall then capped off another drive, catching the Raiders in a blitz in the wrong gaps for a TD to make it 17-3.

Pryor led a much-needed touchdown drive of his own, sealing it with a 2-yard run to Caulder, who looked like his usual self in this one.

17-10 at the half, the Raiders got the ball back to start the 3rd quarter, but couldn't make anything happen. The Steelers did, however, with Mike Wallace doing the damage on a TD catch-and-run, breaking the tackles of rookies Carillon and Cooper and then out-running everyone else to the end zone.

Down 24-10, it looked bad for the Raiders. Then the team coughed up the football as Pryor was trying to get a struggling offense on track by running for a first down. That fumble lead to 3 more Pittsburgh points, making the score 27-10. The Raiders moved it somewhat on their next possession, but Janikowski missed a 58-yd FG just short as he didn't quite get enough leg to drive it through, so nothing came of that drive.

Nothing happened on the next Raiders' possession, but the defense was starting to get some idea on what to do. Then had picked off Rothlisberger once as he tried to force the ball into double coverage. This time, Tyvon Branch batted down a pass near the line of scrimmage, but it was called a fumble. Sheldon Brown and Rolando McClain both went after the ball, and Brown scooped it up and headed downfield. Mendenhall was able to catch him to stop the touchdown.

Next play for the Raiders, Pryor found Moore in the end zone for a score, now 27-17. Janikowski came up with a success on a more normal-sized field goal to make it 27-20 early in the 4th quarter.

The defenses both battled back and forth for much of the quarter, which was making things look more and more bleak for the Raiders. To top it off, Julio Caulder went out with an injury after a Ryan Clark hit. Julio would not return to the game, leaving the Raiders down a key piece.

The momentum the team gathered seemed to leave with Caulder. Woodley picked up his second sack on the next play, and then Cortez Allen came with a corner blitz for a sack on the next play. This had the team punt the ball back with little over 5 minutes left in the game.

The Raiders got another chance as the defense continued to zone in on the Steelers' offense. Pryor was more effective, but missed some open receivers as it looked like he just wouldn't have enough.

Yet the Raiders got one more chance. Lechler pinned the Steelers deep. The defense allowed one first down, but then did get a stop. Raiders used a time out on defense and got the ball back with 1:02 left to try to tie the game.

He went to work, getting things going with some passes to Moore, who had 128 yards in the game. Then he mixed in some throws to Reece and Mike Williams to keep the ball moving.

Then LaMarr Woodley struck again. He picked up his 3rd sack of the game. Raiders had to use their 2nd timeout with 40 seconds left. He picked up some yardage on third down and then hit Reece, who held on in front of Ike Taylor, to convert on 4th down. He hit Reece again for a 21-yard reception to get the team into the red zone with about 20 seconds left.

Woodley again tried to put an end to the hopes, but Pryor got rid of the ball just in time to avoid a sack. The game ended up coming down to 4th and goal with 10 seconds left and no timeouts.

Pryor set up to throw and the Steelers were in zone. Mike Williams' round found him in open space and Pryor let the pass go. Williams turned and the ball was there for a touchdown in the corner of the end zone. Pryor had completed a game-tying TD drive.

Score tied at 27, the teams headed to overtime. Raiders won the toss and elected to receive.

Taiwan Jones got things going on the right track with a nice 42-yard kick return. The Raiders needed that because now they felt the loss of Caulder. The team go enough into field goal range to give Janikowski another long attempt. This one was 57 yards, and he had just enough on the kick to get over the crossbar to make it 30-27.

But the Steelers got a chance since the score was just a FG. Rothlisberger started the ball down the field and worked Mendenhall with a draw. Then the coverage clamped down and Lamarr Houston picked up a sack to make it 4th and long. Rothlisberger was under pressure as the Raiders sent 6 rushers after the quarterback. He fired a pass somewhat off balance and Paris Cooper redeemed himself with the Championship clinching interception.

The Raiders players poured out from the sideline, mobbing Cooper and the rest of the defense on the field. Lyle got himself a Gatorade shower and then accepted the AFC Trophy.

"This is the kind of game you live for, coming from behind in a big game to go to the Super Bowl. Only that would have been better is doing this in the Super Bowl, but hopefully we won't be behind and have to, " Pryor laughed.

Julio Caulder moped on the sideline after his injury, having to be content to watch his mates battle. He came out on to the field as hard as he could to enjoy the moment. His ribs are going to be something of a concern going into the Super Bowl.

Denarius Moore was spotted signing a few balls for the Raiders fans that had made the trip. Once that was done, he headed over to the rest of the team to join in the celebration. One ball that was not going to the fans was Paris Cooper's interception.

"You'll have to kill me to get this ball, " Cooper smiled, "Are you kidding, to pick off a pass like that? Off a quarterback like Ben Rothlisberger? This is going on the mantle!"

The Raiders will face the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl XLVIII after the 49ers destroyed the Eagles 40-14 in the NFC Conference Championship.

Brandon Bolden has been confirmed as starter for the Super Bowl for the Raiders.

"I'm grateful for the opportunity and can't wait to get on the field, " an excited Bolden commented.

Taiwan Jones will also have snaps. He'll return to his role as spelling the starter as well as being a change of pace from the more Caulder-esque style of Bolden.

Josh Morgan is moving up to #3 WR and is chomping at the bit for a chance to face his old team. Jacoby Ford will be the kick and punt returner as well as 4th WR.

Should an injury occur to a halfback, Marcel Reece is willing and able to take over duties there. A change could also occur if either Bolden or Jones struggles. If that happens, Marcus Harper would be the starting TE.

                            Progression

Players are starting to pile up XP. It's unknown how it will get divvied up when it's time to focus on training and improving the roster. Here's a look at some of the top compilers based on scouting information:

                            Rolando McClain: 36,638
                            Julio Caulder: 32,447
                            Jake Olsen: 32,300
                            Denarius Moore: 30,173
                            Sebastian Janikowski: 20,761
                            Michael Huff: 16,346
                            Jared Veldheer: 15,014
                            Marcel Reece: 14,935
                            Tevin Ash: 13,3963

                            Scouting:
Speaking of scouting, the college kids are still making noise. FB Conrad Ratliff is praised for his hard-nosed running style, but many worry about his durability.

Some wonder if Oakland will become the team of MLB's who play everywhere else. Interest in Tanner Bailey and Davis Shrum are making that a possibility. But what about OLB? Tevin Ash can stay put, but on the left side...especially if Olsen moves inside to join McClain...?

The injury to Caulder shot HB depth to the top of the organizational mind. Nathaniel Pennix is not the most touted kid, but has a running style like Caulder...without the fumbles. Of course, Stephen McKenzie tempts the team as he's like Taiwan Jones...without the fumbles. Does Oakland try to get both? If not, which one?

The team is looking at safeties as well. Paris Cooper should be a cornerback, and probably a starter. Mike Mitchell might get SS after all since Branch is working as a corner. Michael Huff has been quite erratic. This has the team considering going with two "enforcers" at both safety positions. Free safeties Jabbar Reyna and Clinton Smith feature on the team's draft board for their reputation as punishing hitters.

The offense got exposed in several ways in the biggest game. The pass protection had little answer for the tenacious rush of the 49ers and, without Caulder, it would be largely on Pryor to get it done.

It didn't help that Moore suffered a concussion in the game. This left Pryor with just Reece as his main weapon. Still, he fired the ball often, trying to find a way to make plays. His team provided no help. Williams, Ford, and Morgan all dropped several catchable balls. Bolden was actually the most effective, trying to get some balance back for his QB.

The defense did everything it could. McClain tried to will his unit to rise up, and for the most part they did. Alex Smith was erratic due to the pressure he was facing and the coverage from Carillon was good for all but one play, which went for a TD. It would be the only TD in the game.

The offense produced 9 points, it would have been enough to win 9-6 if not for that TD. However, the blame can't be on the rookie corner. No, this was a wake-up call to the Raiders that their offense isn't there yet, both in depth and in execution.

The team tried to avoid Patrick Willis, but Willis popped the ball out of Bolden's hands and Sopoaga recovered. 49ers would get a FG to make it a 4 point game.

Undeterred, Pryor kept firing. And running, picking up some key yards. He came up JUST short on 3rd and 10 with 20 seconds left, and the booth did not challenge the spot, making Lyle livid on the sidelines. On 4th and 1, Pryor decided against trying to run, as he saw Reece in the corner of the end zone. The pass had a chance, but Carlos Rodgers swatted down the pass to end the Raiders' hopes.

In the end, it was an ugly day for the offense in general, and Pryor's stats suffered the most for it. He'll go down as 15 for 49 with 3 picks thrown, but his receivers dropped 10 passes in the game. Moore was only 2 of those.

"We came far, but didn't have enough. It's disappointing for us all right now, but when the emotions settle down, we can realize how hard we fought together - united as a team and how it pulled us through. We just ran into someone just as united today. They got this far themselves for a reason. We can't forget that, " Lyle spoke.

McClain was less gracious saying, "I want to kick the *** of every ******* receiver. We defenders played our *** off, and they can't catch a **** ball. I feel for Pryor, man. He kept his cool out there. I would have punch some fools."
